Gigerverse thread

Heres the googledoc about the setting docs.google.com/document/d/1OjqypVGSiVQu4sXMcm4pXBwI6PTX1bBNL1NB_7NwewQ/edit

We still got to make guilds and gangs so lets hear your ideas.

Some kind of courier guild would be cool to have.

Guild Jakka: A courier guild operating near the outskirts of the City. Famed for their safe deliveries, although overdues are kind of common due to the dangers of the outskirts. Still, if you want something arrive in one piece without harm, try Guild Jakka.

Guild Carentz: Their courier network is the most extensive of other Inner City guilds, but they specialize in one thing and one thing only: information delivery. Want a message delivered safely without snoops? Here, whisper to our mini-freak agent, whose brain we augment. After the message is delivered we scrub its mind clean with amnesiac drugs, and if that still leaves residues we replace its brain completely.

Guild Rathak: This guild is known for its speed, the fastest of the Coastal Warrens. As such they're only good in delivering small cargoes or people around. But their delivery teams will make sure it gets delivered, pronto, by leaping, maneuvering, running, and passing the cargo back and forth between the Cityscape.

So have we finally settled on a baryx design?

they look awesome

Is there a reason they all walk on their toes?

To be graceful?

Some sort of odd digitigrade feet.

That is old art of them, back when I had a different idea in mind for their design.
The current look I am thinking off for them is closer to this.

I gotta say I'm not liking the headcrest.

It's just one of the ideas I have for the shape of their "masks".

See, I personally like the head crest. This head shape looks a bit too eldarish

Personally I'd lose the pointy top and have more of a swept back smooth surface like a xenomorph head.

I like the idea of baryx nobility being closest to human form, but I would like to see one jarring thing be off that highlights like everyone else, they just dont do humanity right. Though you seem to be edging towards it.

One other thing to consider with Baryx is their focus on perfection of form. That would also lend itself well towards Austarity of perfection. Minimal ornimentation, and features, etc, with most of their stature and nobility coming from the whole form. Your background sketches catch that look well.

Ideas for a unifiying look;
-Nasal holes on their ribs for breathing, but no real nose, maybe a bump.
-digigrade toes/ ankles, or even better, the feet are just larger hands that are every bit as dexterous as the primary hands.

other thought:
VatMothers subtype, "envoys". VatMothers who are semi permanent residents with a given house or guild, operating as advisors and a point of contact with the cult. Over time the given mothers may adopt the trappings of that house to better blend in, and facilitate interaction. Aimed favorably towards the dealings of the mothers, of course.

tl/dr: Baryx inspired mother?

Vatmother cult envoys to Noble houses and guilds is pretty good idea.

Yeah since the vatmothers are the closest thing to a unifying force in the city I'd think they wouldn't be as distinct of a group as the others.

The idea of the envoys sounds pretty cool, but houses have something similar for others houses? Effectively ambassadors to these other houses

*would houses have something similar to this*

>VatMothers subtype, "envoys". VatMothers who are semi permanent residents with a given house or guild, operating as advisors and a point of contact with the cult. Would make sense.
Outside of Rai-Khil, the houses do hold some diplomatic relations to one another, despite their shared antagonistic views towards each other.

Fake and gay this is far better

As the artist behind both, I disagree. The earlier vrsions have messy and poorly thought out aesthetics that do not capture the idea of sculpture like perfection.

The new design simply isn't better. It has more to do with lust than pride. As long as it has strong, bold lines you're good. These overlithe fuccbois simply don't fit the bill. Apply the lithe aesthetics to the females and make the males more in line with pic related. Bam, best of both worlds

Those dudes in the OP look familiar

Not quite the same topic, a this is an ancient sketch from the depths of my old deviantart page, but I thought some of you might like it.

>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bene_Gesserit
damn. Damn you herbert. beat me by a long shot, but i never knew about this till now.

I like both art styles, though I'd still like to see an inhuman aspect to Baryx, perhaps their individual abs/ pecks are a sort of floating bone, or their bodies just have harder more angular lines here and there

>suddenly everyone has robbie rotten faces, and house baryx is number one.

I think that Baryx should run the gambit from hulking white Phyrexians and Destiny Hive Knights to picture perfect statuesque people, both males and females. Form is defined by function, beautiful and terrible though it is. A female Templar is going to look more or less like a male Templar, huge chitinous plates and powerful carmine flesh. While Inquisitors and statesmen would look statuesque and civil

Well, pride is a case by case thing. Some people are proud of the fact that they are extremely strong, others are proud that they can beat the shit out of their foes with pure skill as opposed to with muscles the size of France.

Personally I feel like both pictures are good, but feels a little too inhuman. Not for the setting, but if Baryx is proud of the fact that it doesn't deviate massively from the original form of the City's inhabitants (who were probably human) then it should be a little more human, but not necessarily a huge amount.

So perhaps that is what needs to be embodied, a combination of humanity and individuality, with every member of House Baryx having a different look

Holy fuck why is it goddamn near impossible to full images of Alak-hul/the Warpriest?

Which brings us to The Baryx higher ups, like the council of Archdukes, look more human in that psuedosexual giegeresque way. While the rank and file warriors look more like

So Baryx aesthetics are more caste based?

Pretty much, with underlying similarities being that clean, marble/bone white and a messy, wet red flesh underneath.

Are we allowed to post other units we draw for baryx or are these the canon ones now?

>clean, marble/bone white and a messy, wet red flesh underneath.
That'd be too close to the look of the phyrexians

I'd say we're still hashing Baryx out, but feel free to throw your hat in the ring, so to speak

SeeThose colored versions are old and not canonical.

These sketches are more up to date

First off, that only describes white Phyrexians, not their entirety.

Second off; So? If it works it works, what the fuck is Wizards gonna do, sue us? Call it an homage if it helps you sleep at night

I'd say that's very much up for debate

>I'd say that's very much up for debate
The final aesthetic of Baryx, sure.

But given the fact that I drew both the colored digital drawing, and the pencil sketches, I can safely say that the pencil sketches are more up to date with the current vision I have of Baryx aesthetics.

So are we going for a more ocean-like aesthetic now or am I seeing this completely wrong?

Ocean like?
No, simply more sculpture like look.

Guild Rathak sounds like the runners from Mirror's Edge.

I saw the forearm protrusions and thought they look like fins, but the sculpture thing makes more sense.

All the hair and fins and general body shape does seem more aquatic

I just want to hug a joey.

Well as the resident artist with whom we disagree with, what do you think of this comprise?

It's a difficult choice to make.

is too close to white New Phyrexia.
and are too close to 40K's Eldar.

You're right in that what's needed to complete the Baryx is an inhuman, complicated and very bizarre-looking head. And that's something that's difficult to do without copying from another source.

Try to stick with that imagery. Human-looking bodies with very, very inhuman heads. The crests were getting there, but were too close to New Phyrexia. The Eldar-looking heads, on the other hand, look a little too human.

The "finns" were supposed to be blades unfolding from the flesh of the nobles.

Sure.
It is mostly my failure as an artist to emulate the ideal bodyshape I have envisioned for Baryx (picture related) in my sketches.

I wouldn't do some crude heavy bone armor plating though, as I find the idea of their skin simply being armor in itself far creepier.

> The Eldar-looking heads, on the other hand, look a little too human.
Them looking like Human faces is entirely intentional though. I sought for them to have these unmoving, sculpted face masks.

Nothing wrong with looking like White Phyrexians, it's a sexy look.

And there's no need to be creepy or overly sexual, simply intimidating. I'll try my hand at drawing my ideal Baryx tonight, as I feel this issue is going to eat up a lot of time

I don't think that those heads look that much like that of the Eldar.

What a sad looking dude.

I really like these ones. I think that Baryx should be humanish, striving towards a long forgotten ideal, and the strong abbs and tall, noble features capture this I feel. Broud shoulders, narrow waists.

However as it is Gigerverse I think the should still be inhuman looking. Maybe its that they havent been coloured yet, but the sketches whilst loking nice seem very human and attractive. They remind me a lot of 40k Eldar rather than a caste of mutants aping humanity.

Well you'd be sad too if you were a biological robot with no thoughts or feelings of your own

...wait

Ok. I NEED to know who the hell is in charge of this project.

This work is INSPIRATIONAL! I must speak to whoever is in charge.

I mean, there's a guy doing much of the art
I guess, like, hit him up?

Where might I find him?

I guess that would be me.
I'm the dude who's behind much of the art posted here, and worked on the setting at my own pace after it's first inception was born on Veeky Forums 5 years ago.

Is there a better way to contact you besides a thread on Veeky Forums?

Well, I have a deviant art account
screeble.deviantart.com/

Sending you a note right now.

Did this rough doodle of a possible Baryx rework, bodyshape wise at least.
It is getting pretty late here, so I will continue working on it tomorrow.
This is the "general" physique I sorta imagine for the baryx. Strong, almost akin to sculpted musculature.

But if you guys have any ideas or input, feel free to put it forth. I am not set on this look at all, and if something comes forth that fits the ideal look of the Baryx better, I'll be more than happy to incorporate it.

>Baryx rework
The head and facial features remind me of this dude's clay puppets.
bassoeg.deviantart.com/

reminds me of ur mun

I like the original but thats just personal preference

...

Dunno how much my input matters but I am the user that recommended smooth crowns, sexy legs and all. Haven't caught up on the threads but I think this is a fantastic baseline for Baryx. The faces could easily be just war masks or completely an outcrop of thier own skulls, thus further needing to wear a mask for individuality. I think these are really great templates for the knights, the higher you go up the food chain, the more refined or expanded upon certain phenotypes will become. Its like the Dynasty Warriors games, your larger than life heroes are the Baryx knights and your serfs use the "same" equipment but are obviously unable to use it to the same degree.

I feel like Errants are your baseline, but in this depiction its a little too tall for your bottom rung knight. Going back to my DW analogy, your most basic knights should be somewhere btween human haed and Protector elbow. This helps reinforce the Baryx standing with the serfs, its not a giant fighting but a Big Guy that happens to be from a certain family. Bonds through battle will form and it secures loyalty and also fame. Enough victories or a swplendid enough battle ensures Lordship, regardless of land attached to the title. With title comes biogel rewards and responsibilities. So a Lord needs to increase his ability to hold and use Biogel, and to also survive assassinations and upgrades. The Lesser Lords are Knights that have attained land, even if its an acre at most, but they must still strive to be better. This leaves a very broad definition of bigger and better. It also helps define martial prowess and political ability, both are very much required.

To those who complain it looks too phyrexian, the house itself stemmed from the same roots. Phyrexia is Wizards visual take on Gieger, We dipped heavily into that color palette and back to the source, so ending up as not!phyrexians should be taken in stride.

Bump.

That guys sexy and all but when are we going to see the women?

It sounds good

I'm new to this project but it seems neat, would love to see more grotesquerie and horror. While a lot of his art is populated with those Aeon Flux-type bodies there's also plenty who look physically useless, and would be a great bio-horror addition to just have atrophied, breathing things filtering the air and all that.

I'm resistant to the term "Freaks" as an average-joe thing, I feel like they'd be named as per their function or something. "Bumps" or "Pocks," you know.

>Cool a whole setting about biomechanical people
>they all look like males
>disappointed face dot jpg

Gender is pretty pointless in the first iteration of the setting. Freaks were born from the "walls" of the city, and did not reproduce, but could hire the vatmothers to create elaborate creations that were perfected forms of freaks. At least an interpretation of that idea anyway.

Round two of the lore, freaks can reproduce, but its ugly and doesn't always work right, so vat mothers ensure that the progeny is as viable as there is money to pay them.

What you are looking for, the cheesecake, the breasts and the puss, to be so very blunt, would not really be so appealing. There might be teeth.

Everyone's a freak baby. Its part of the grit, and weirdness of the setting, that spark of insanity ala mad max. Everyone is a little nuts, just depends on how bad it is. This is a setting where flesh can be cultivated, and grafted on at some degree of will. Where people dont even know what a human really looked like in the past, but have a vague idea of what that glory of perfection was.

There you go. Female in the middle. Dem hips, dem big soulful eyes. Doin anything for ya yet? FQ is not really short for Fap Quest, but well, Veeky Forums has some /d/ history, so dont let anything stop you.

old shit art from an old shit side quest, already linked in a prior thread. But see that face? It is just cultured flesh, tacked onto something that might not be so palatable. Freaks are at least somewhat honest in their appearance. The poor or at least unwealthy tend to wear who they are. Meanwhile the elite can afford to drape themselves in temporary or semi permanent trappings that parody human form, meanwhile their behavior often more than makes up for a lack of monstrous appearance with a total lack of human nature, behaving more like intelligent, speaking, thinking predators.

To be honest, I am not that good at drawing women, hence most of my sketches do not feature them.

...

...

I'm just here for the fanservice, brah

Bamp

Also working on more sketches for the thread

an idea for another one of agents of The Nameless

>Red-Cap
>all armies require weapons/armour and it is the job of the Red-Caps to "Procure" much of this equipment (that which is not worth purchasing anyhow)
>They often skulk near fresh battlefields, looting the dead for anything that might be useful, from arms, to armour, to augs and sometimes even the very blood of the dead.
> For this last purpose, their bodies are equipped with a long proboscis-like needle connected to a series of sacks on their back.
>They fill these sacks with useful blood and then return it to their cell (it is for these sanguine sacks that they are named "Red-Caps").
>The blood may then be used in the creation of Shifters, the production of augs and many other nefarious purposes

I'm still shilling the idea that at least some elements of their designs should be inspired by the worst nightmare-tier plastic surgery gone wrong.
The sort of people who lose sight of norms of beauty and develop a self-feeding obsession. Women who keep getting breast implants until they're veiny unhealthy looking beachballs, people who diet and puke and get fat sucked out till they're spooky skellingtons, who pump their lips so much it looks like some racist caricature, who get bone chiseled away and replaced with riveted metal and plastic so they can look like max headroom. You could also probably throw in some of the freakish proportions and faces you see in shitty porn and hentai as increasing modification makes silly things possible.

Like just imagine someone trying to construct an "ideal" beautiful human from second or third or whatever hand descriptions or myths but with no actual experience or frame of reference, "big full lips, long slender fingers and long shaped nails, hourglass thin waist, chiselled angular features, long flowing hair, wide bright eyes, full fluttering eyelashes and neat shaped eyebrows, big bright smiles full of shining white perfect teeth, long slender necks". Just think about the potential implications of all of those phrases and more but without everything you know about what they actually refer to in the context of human society.

If you do go with a more flat perfect marble-statue look I still recommend looking to the modern day for inspiration by the way of makeup. Vestigial noses and lips and such basically painted on to the smooth canvas in their best guess at "beauty" that might look more like an acid-trip fueled art piece than an actual human face.

None of this artwork or designs feel very Giger-esque, honestly.

Well for once I felt that way but no more...

Because I finally found a job after so many years.

From what I remember when I saw these sketches in a bio-punk thread, I heard about that Vat-Mother Cult that keeps tabs on the offspring of various houses and clans due to increased mortality rates caused by extreme mutations that results giving birth the proper way to be very risky.

But the question is...how the hell all of these have sex in the first place?

That's why I call it Mundus Carnis, and not gigerverse.

Should I change the name of the thread next time?

Perhaps.

>how the hell all of these have sex in the first place
They same way we do

Alone in their room with their hands and a small bottle of hand lotion?

with octo-omni-quantum-supersolid-phase shifting-dicks of course. like regular people.

Judging from how fucked up their genitals are thats probably what they have to do.
Then they rub whatever juices they get out of it on each other crotches to make babies.

a while ago I did a freak progression from average freak to vat mother to highlight how "reshaped" a freak can be.

Top left is a freak who is viable in society, likely birthed into this world with vat mother assistance, but only as a barely viable individual. Tiny ear holes, and a melon for echolocation instead of sight. Deformed everything, barely intelligible when speaking. A common low class freak. They are very broken, but still just functional enough.

Each fork represents what a faction may do to said freak as far as surgery or augmentation to make them fit their use.

Chot uses crude and fast acting genetic tonics, as well as grown muscle to quickly break bone, and reinforce the maw of the unfortunate freak. This individual has likely gone mad from the process and the pain, as well as the new and eternal gnawing hunger. Barely more than an animal.

a slightly improved freak may try to escape the hardship of life in the brothers and drugs, and fall into the debt of Viam. Sensory is improved and then improved again...and again...and again. Each touch, even injury is like someone toying with a person after a fresh orgasm. Again, sanity is likely gone now, and obedience to their handler is assured. Handlers cut and shape their subjects at whim and to their amusal (go ahead, search that word).

Some freaks just get motivated, improve themselves, seek work, bury themselves in the job and get calloused towards life, their body begins to reflect the utilitarian nature of that life.

Baryx would offer a simple aesthetic flesh mask of calloused skin if they found a freak worthy who sought perfection of form. enough in form of being a vassal, or serf, so as to take pity on them for their imperfection, and hide their disgusting form from sight.

Lienis may kidnap a suitable subject for industrial use, or even as a connection to this setting's version of the "internet". The internet is horrific, and its wise to use a sacrificial subject between you and it.

>Many Changelings and Shifters start their lives out as Red-Caps, as it teaches them valuable lessons about stealth and deception, along with filling them with the ambition to become something more than a looter/grave robber
