Have you considered that it might be because you couldn't have even filled the gallery with the images posted? There weren't 18 square images of the right resolution posted. That's probably why it got dropped.

Didn't consider that, because they could've been vocal about it (e.g. "X usable images have been posted, just Y more to go!") or reduced the amount of art slots in the final gallery to compensate.
