Wish-list, discuss, dream Guard regiments that you wish GW would make, and why they won't.
We have a thousand varieties of marines in plastic, but the poor old guard only have the unbelievably boring Cadian models and horrendous ancient deformed monkey men Catachans in plastic.
The guard have always been a good seller for GW and they really are missing out by not offering alternative regiments for them. Third parties have made entire companies based on doing guard knock offs.
I understand that Space Marines make the most amount of money, so doing Dark Angel, Blood Angel etc etc etc varities of them makes money, but a little love for the guard infantry could definitely make some money, or am I an idiot?
Plastic anything else would do, and something that is a bit grimdark, not those goofy ass scions.
Brandon Jones
I also think plastic Voystroyans would do excellent doubling as 'Imperial Army' for 30k
Dylan Lopez
Plastic Kriegers.
Xavier Gonzalez
I would buy that over this boring shit
Julian Morgan
Tallarn, just, lots of Tallarn, and more variation vehicles.
Chase Robinson
...
Jose Diaz
Remember the old IG book that had more vehicles and units?
Jack Brown
I want more. Now Cadia is gone i want an influx of new regiments on the block
Nolan Campbell
There's an infinite variety of choices out there, GW are shooting themselves in the foot by not giving IG guys what they want, how many thousands of just Heads are there on the secondary market for boring ass cadians? Kromlech, Victoria, West Wind, Pig Iron...
Chase Rivera
I just wish they'd bring back the Lost and the Damned Codex.
Christian Martin
Oh hell yeah, ive spent like 30-40 pounds on just heads, torsos and backpacks alone for IG
Benjamin Fisher
I converted 120 Cadian infantrymen with Pig Iron heads... After I had painted them with the boring heads too. That was a moment of madness.
Gabriel Phillips
PLEASE tell me they didnt have faces in the new heads
William Sanchez
Gas Masks... It would have killed me otherwise, you know I realise i didn't count also the heavy weapons teams.
Serves me right for wanting to paint an actual infantry company like a historical one with 120 men bayonets
Lucas Perry
Pip pip old boy
Joshua Taylor
I'd buy them still
Zachary Smith
>Infantry Company >Only 120 men
It's almost as if you don't Infantry Guard.
Jacob Wright
Ah my friend, that is more like a Battalion than a Company however.
Show me the painted models too then my mind will be blown. ;)
Lucas Bailey
Sadly, that isn't an option with the money I make.
But it is certainly a dream.
Nolan Gomez
If only they still did Epic hey
Joshua Gonzalez
That's just a cadian plumber.
Angel Williams
>No love for valhallans
Sebastian Gonzalez
Valhallans were the first box of IG i ever bought. For Space Stalin!
Ayden Jones
he's going to sort out that clogged drain at bayonet point.
Oliver Mitchell
Modern future style pretty cool
Levi Torres
Am I the only one who really dosnt care for the new stormtroopers? I was never a explicit fan of the old ones, but these guys just look ridiculous
Cadians would look fucking great if they just changed the helmet to look less goofy
Colton Torres
I will never be able to bring myself to hate the Death Korps.
Charles Bailey
I desperately want plastic mordians but the fact that Geedubs doesnt sell heavy or special weapons for them like they do for Steel Legion and the Vostroyans it's unlikely It'll happen. At least the 3rd party Mordians are good looking and versatile.
Isaiah Perry
Idunno, i quite like the new space SAS, adds just that little more variation.
William Clark
I think they're a good mix of OPER8/10 and the gothic aesthetic of the imperium. If you don't like the breastplate they look great with cadian torso too.
Colton Diaz
I'm working on making a IG army based on a 1944 British infantry battalion.
Levi Campbell
ants.
Luis Jackson
I wish guard could combat squad so a guard Infantry squad could be broken into Sergeant and some rifles and a separate heavy weapon team.
Charles Lopez
as a valhallan player i obviously want plastic valhallans, and a generic kit that allows you to build diffrently flavored IG soldiers , stuff like Inftantry in dress uniforms, more modren looking, medieval or penal infantry At the very least better proportions are a must get your shit together gw's, FW knows what human proportions look like so why don't you? converting guard regiments is pretty much impossible unless you go full 3rd party because of this
they've grown on me i think they look pretty cool as a separate entity in the imperium
they look horribly out of place in an ig army with their Not!marine colour schemes however
Dominic Murphy
Yeah, IG could use a more modern looking aesthetic, at least for the generic IG/Cadians. Play it right and you could have the Operator/Gear Queer crowd drooling over the guard.
Nevertheless, unless its replacing the Taurox the next release should be new infantry and no new vehicles.
Jaxson Baker
This. Kind of like how fireteams in a section are actually used today.
Mason Allen
this used to be a thing in Cityfight games
Connor Rogers
My wish list is for 20 man boxes with price of about 36 dollars.
Liam Bell
They look way better with the kasrkin chest piece rather than the plate armor look. Shame there is only two books about them.
A good way to make Cadians less boring is change the dumpy helmet.
Jacob Flores
Drookian Fen guard
Just those guys in general
Jackson Sullivan
>Still no plastic Steel Legion For what fucking purpose
Luke King
Pretty much the same price as a 10 man marine tac squad although just under in terms of point cost, I like it
I would accept another 5 years of the same old cadian sprue if they threw in a special weapon sprue that let us have access to plasmas and meltas without having to buy a command squad for one of each special weapon
It looks like those helmets they put on softheaded babies
Anthony Bennett
Its a test of creativity.
Luke Bell
Has anyone tried stapling WHFB Empire State Troops as IG troops?
David Miller
I still like Cadians. Can't wait to get back to them after I'm done with other projects.
Owen Gonzalez
I agree with this sentiment.
Connor Hernandez
Cadians are ok, just wish IG had some variety.
Thomas Cooper
It's weird to me that they haven't because they literally only need two boxes. Ome for regular infantry and one for HWTs.
Andrew Johnson
I wanna build a regiment of these guys so bad
Julian Hughes
I wish they had become the default guys. Cadians are so boring.
Adam Ramirez
>Goes to check prices >35 buckaroos for one squad >17 for a heavy weapons team >10 for one fucking guardsman with a plasma
Jesus...
Thomas Barnes
Fuck off. Krieg regiments are the most bland edgy shit there is. If you want archaic uniforms and ruthlessness have Vostroyans, if you want gas masks have Steel Legion (or Vostroyans).
Landon Watson
I kind of liked the old non-kasrkin storm troopers alongside Vostroyans or someone more fancy. Makes them look like secret police or something like the Gestapo or NKVD.
Angel White
Superb looking
Oliver Wood
HARAKONI WARHAWK.KASHRIKIN CMON GW WALLOW IN MY POOR DECISION MAKING AND DISPOSABLE INCOME
Jason Hill
They grew on me. REplacing the chest piece is a must though
Luis White
I know it sucks to do so but just scavenge. I have about 9 space marine plasma guns in my guard army. if your FLGS has a bits bin, check it often and collect some weapons.
Alexander Parker
So with that logic, you'll have a CAD with 1 CCS in Chimera (representing a Bren Carrier, but a Tourox could also do) & Missile Launcher, 3 PCS's with a mortar crew each, and three infantry squads per platoon with a Bolter crew in each. That's 785 points not counting the logistics trucks.
Well as far as gunlines go your anti-infantry is without pier. Almost exactly what the Emp's Sheild Infantry Company should've been.
Nolan Peterson
>tfw no Harakoni models >tfw converting them with the FW Grav Chutes and the FW Cadian Hazardous Environment suits costs $9.30 CAD per trooper, plus weapons ($35 for 10 Cadians, $22 for 10 grav chutes, $36 for 10 Haz suit conversions)
Tyler Martinez
Then again, if you've ever been to a gun range much less a battlefield you'll probably enjoy the massive ear protection. I can only imagine the heavy bolters sound like a modern firearm on steriods.
Plus, built in radio? But then what would that make the vox?
William Foster
Wow, you're right. It really was that chest piece, they actually look pretty great. (I'm not the guy who posted the original comment, by the way)
Matthew Collins
With a half length trench coat plastic fig and alternative head/rifles you could do justic to both DKoK (hehe da-cock) and Steel Legion in one box
Samuel Lewis
This is so much better holy shit, I now have a terrible urge to buy these fuckers.
Eli Martinez
nice
Samuel Evans
any idea what they replaced the chest piece with?
Angel Diaz
That's just a standard Cadian torso
Michael Flores
No shit?
Caleb Stewart
He asked buddy, no need to be rude
Landon Murphy
I wasn't trying to be rude I'm the one who asked. That wasn't sarcastic or meant as an insult that was a "huh really?" moment. I was seeking confirmation.
Robert Cruz
Oh sorry to be defensive, they are indeed just the cadian torso, apparently it's possible to extract something good from those kits!
Hunter Garcia
There is nothing wrong with the Death Korps. They fit the universe, and if you actually read their stuff they can be quite compelling. Yes, it's grimdark up to 11, but so is a lot of shit in Warhammer.
I could argue that Vostroyans are hella more bland than Kriegers, but that wouldn't really go anywhere it would just devolve into a pointless screaming match and I'm not going to sink to that level.
You like what you like and other people like what they like. Just because they don't like what you like doesn't mean you have to pick fights with them.
Joshua Howard
I like the Krieg but a bit of their fluff is a bit too edgelord for sure. I don't think GW writers understand that it's not exactly possible to never ever take a gasmask off.
Stuff about the quartermaster scavenging equipment and stuff is cool though. Either way though they are fantastic models and actually look like they fit the 40k world (the world rendered by John Blanche anyway and not the more modern shitty cg looking artworks).
Jaxson Brown
Technically the lore doesn't say they never take the masks off, just that they wear them at all times when on duty. There is a distinction.
I like the Quartermasters. I like their Death Cult. I like their aesthetic. I enjoyed all of their books. As far as I am concerned they are the most 40k guard regiment, but I understand not everyone agrees with this and that opinions are divided on the matter. I say let bygones be bygones. Personally If i was designing the sprues I would do one sprew with a greatcoat and then have multiple head options included in the kit. Fluffy hat head for vostroyans, and gas mask head for Krieg or Steel legion. Then they could fix up the Cadian sprue a bit and put two types of heads in there. Have two different kits one with great coats and one in flack, both with two head options, and call it a day.
You can't tell me they can't do multiple head options, they are already doing it for skitarii and a few other kits. Just do it for guard so you could build different regiments out of the same one or two kits.
Benjamin Kelly
being said I do agree that some of it is a little over the top, but so is like 90 percent of the rest of 40k. The lore has always been wack, so I just roll with it at this point.
Christopher Gomez
Gue'vesa.
Elijah Butler
I've been trying to figure out humanity's place in the Tau Empire. Do they have human auxiliaries to fight for them? Is that normal? If so, why has GW avoided making that into a unit?
Leo Thompson
i'd love to have a force of guardsmen from multiple regiments, Which I'd fluff by saying they are the tattered remnants of their regiments after the climactic battle of some massive conflict, recently pressed into a corner together, their scant remaining commanders doing their best to hold a Desperate quilt of guardsmen together to hold the line till there either relief, Death, Or glory.
Oliver Roberts
Yes, they settled a bunch of Imperials that were left stranded after the first Damocles Crusade. I think it's not uncommon for humans to serve in the Tau military but there's no real source on it, all I can recall is that the first generation stranded Imperials became farmers and settlers while the second generation onward became Gue'vesa.
It used to be a thing with rules (it was basically a guard squad with the option to buy pulse rifles/carbines/a markerlight on the sarge too maybe?) but that was quite a few editions ago, and they never had official models.
GW probably hasn't done it because they're focusing more on the high tech side of the Tau than the coalition of races side nowadays.
Owen Ross
Same bro >Cadian Hostile Environments >Scion Arms >Anvil Grenadier legs I don't want to fathom the cost of my dudes
Samuel Davis
would love to do a guard regiment like this but don't got the money to get both elysians and cadian respirators heads. I like krieg also but they don't seem much for converting infantry all that much so vostroyans is where it's at for me.
Cameron Morgan
Ah well that's better. I just recall in a book where they fight the necrons they are wearing them in the mess hall which is dumb. Though in that same book a trooper does take off his gear to be incognito in a hive.
I do still love them though I think the 40k universe would make you fatalistic.
Fully agree if gw made multi head coat guardsmen they would sell by the truckload. Vostroyan might need a slightly separate box blood angel style thinking about their Armoured arms and torso but gw is leaving money on the table by neglecting the guard.
Colton Long
Don't vostroyans just wear big red coats though?
Jace Clark
their coats are similar to certian other guard regiments.
Chase Long
Cadians Kriegers Catachaners Vostroyaners
these fours are the only good ones
Lincoln Nguyen
They wear carapace armour and maille and some have metal arms and backpacks they are a bit complex
Gavin Hall
I do something similar, with different units from different regiments. It's fairly easy to fluff it as an Imperial Crusade force with each planet contributing their specialists.
Jeremiah Rivera
I have a bit of a collection from the old metal days with the various guard units I should get around too one day
Cooper Morris
I could live with them just rereleasing a few more special and heavy weapons, officers, and basilisk crew
Ethan Roberts
How long does a turn take with that many bodies? 2 hours?
Carson Butler
I really wish they'd make armageddon pattern wyverns and hydras
Carter Kelly
Some Chinese sites still got the Old FW Hydra. Its a beautiful kit and I'd imagine you could attach the mortars easily enough
Jordan Cruz
got a link to any good ones?
William Perry
>Meanwhile cadians are 29 for one squad >15 for a heavy weapons team >15 for a guardsman with plasma and one with melta
You have options that are marginally more expensive than cadians. Valhallans and Mordians have it worse
