How would you do a music-themed BBEG?

>BBEG

I wouldn't.

Pied Piper turned up to 11.

>"BBEG"

Bleh.

Jesus you're a dedicated autist.

This sound the most correct. People, beasts, what ever you want. Stealing people, or summoning.

...

I don't use BBEGs because they're for simple plots and I don't like simple plots. You're an autist for caring so much about what other people do.

Have it as a minor quirk, not a defining trait.

If it's a modern rpg setting, very subtly reference song lyrics in dialogue. Have one of their many criminal exploits be an occasional foray into what's eventually revealed to be a for-pleasure pursuit of their hobby. A heist of a high-stakes microchip being pulled arsene-lupin-style-publically because it would focus all the attention and resources of the security company behind it, when the true motive would be a stradivarius guarded by the same company, pared down (and possibly aided by the pcs). that sort of thing. tinge his smugness with a hint of insufferable music hipster. Have his final confrontation take place while a fitting billie holiday song plays on vinyl in the background.

for a fantasy rpg, having a dungeon where players suffer penalties unless they announce their actions in rhyming couplet seems fun, provided it takes place and is resolved in a single session. annoying, otherwise.

add orpheus into the category along with the pied piper. he was attempting necromancy.

WHIP IT OUT, BABE

>they're for simple plots and I don't like simple plots
I guarantee none of your players give even close to as much a shit about your likely convoluted "politically motivated" campaign as you do.

His theme would be based around the notes BBEG, in that order.

shame on you Veeky Forums

Doogie Howser was a mistake.

This.

Depends on the setting, though pic related is an option.

>But now Ilúvatar sat and hearkened, and for a great while it seemed good to him, for in the music there were no flaws. But as the theme progressed, it came into the heart of Melkor to interweave matters of his own imagining that were not in accord with the theme of Ilúvatar, for he sought therein to increase the power and glory of the part assigned to himself. To Melkor among the Ainur had been given the greatest gifts of power and knowledge, and he had a share in all the gifts of his brethren. He had gone often alone into the void places seeking the Imperishable Flame; for desire grew hot within him to bring into Being things of his own, and it seemed to him that Ilúvatar took no thought for the Void, and he was impatient of its emptiness. Yet he found not the Fire, for it is with Ilúvatar. But being alone he had begun to conceive thoughts of his own unlike those of his brethren.
>Some of these thoughts he now wove into his music, and straightway discord arose about him, and many that sang nigh him grew despondent, and their thought was disturbed and their music faltered; but some began to attune their music to his rather than to the thought which they had at first. Then the discord of Melkor spread ever wider, and the melodies which had been heard before foundered in a sea of turbulent sound. But Ilúvatar sat and hearkened until it seemed that about his throne there was a raging storm, as of dark waters that made war one upon another in an endless wrath that would not be assuaged.

necromancer who has composed a 1000 man orchestra and now needs someone to play it. He prefers to use the undead because their mindlessness and lack of hobbies actually makes it easier for them to read sheet music and memorize their parts

also he needs mostly those who recently dead so they can use their muscle for precise hand movements and he needs the players with intact lungs for the brass and woodwind sections

so his skeleton orchestra army goes on murder parades through the countryside until he can amass enough musicians for his symphony

I'd start with Nickleback...

Lean into it. Do a full on music themed campaign. Go so far to be almost self parodying. Have fun with it: "the kingdom of rock and roll is under invasion by disco zombies! The only thing that can defeat them is the power of Metal! You brave heroes must go and retrieve it; but that shit is way too powerful in its pure form so you need to have the King of Wubs soften it up first."

Just make him David Bowie

You could do like a Phantom of the Opera thing. He makes the ladies cream their pabts with his singing but also has a murder beef.

They create songs and rythms that become really popular. REALLY popular. The kind that linger in your brain for hours.

The songs have some sort of sinister secondary effect, like making people slowly more susceptible to suggestions or mind control, or containing subtle prayers that bolster the BBEG and/or their patron power. Or it just slowly makes people more violent, Condemned style.

In a modern setting it can be any sort of pop music. In a more low-tech setting it might be more along the lines of sea shanties that become popular among sailors, spreading gradually from port to port...
