Dark Souls by Steamforged Games

So is anybody else actually interested and excited for this or am I alone? Has anybody tried it yet?

The kickstarter started off great but there was a lot of negativity closer to the end and afterwards.

What scale are the minis?

32mm according to the FAQ

Wow, I expected at least one post saying "you are never the only one" and calling me an autist but I guess people really just aren't interested.

never heard about it until now. but it would be fun to paint dark souls minis

>The kickstarter started off great but there was a lot of negativity closer to the end and afterwards.

This is always the way with popular kickstarters. Sometimes it's justified, such as basically everything with the Aliens vs Predator game, other times it's just bitching over trivial bits and misinterpretations.

I helped fund the kickstarter.
I got the full set coming Soon™ and I'll prolly dump pics on /wip/ when I get the models (which should be sometime this month or early next month) if no one else on Veeky Forums is already doing the same. Supposedly the models are all made, and are simply in transit from China to assembly facilities in the US and Germany or at least they were ~20 days ago.
All the renders look pretty good; I'm cautiously optimistic.

I did too, and am quite excited for it. The mechanics seem pretty good, although it's hard to know without having played it. I'm sort of disappointed that the Solaire is a praise the sun rather than a combat pose.

>I'm sort of disappointed that the Solaire is a praise the sun
Same, but I think there wasn't really much of a chance of them not doing it. It was a foregone conclusion from the start, even if I wished it weren't so.

Yeah, I do totally get it, and I would probably be saying I want a praise the sun one if i had a combat one.

I was excited about it, then I saw the models. They're making them from that fucking horrible soft plastic that army men are made from.

Army Men aren't made out of PVC are they? That's the same stuff they use for pipes and such..

I wonder if the weapons and shield on the mini's will be swappable. It'd be kinda neat, but I honestly doubt it.

I think that the Armour set expansion is meant to be for that, so you can swap your model based on what you have equipped. Not sure though so don't quote me.

Goddamn do I want some of these. I'll be in for it just for my favorite character minis that I intend to use for other games, but otherwise I'll be giving them some money in the future.

so they are basically reaper bones?

Dark Souls is the 40k of video games in that anyone who plays it loses the ability to talk about anything else and will constantly mention it and bring it up in basically any semi-relevant conversation.

I'm so tired of hearing about Dark Souls.

This. DS is good, but overrated. I'm glad that at least they won't continue the series after 3.

You need new friends.

even the creators are sick of it. they are moving on to a mech game.

Their previous mechgame, chromehounds was ace.

While I like both Dark Souls and 40k this is very true

The game sounds fun, but pictures of the actual models are less than impressive. It is what got me to pull out of the KS and wait for Kingdom Death. PVC just can't get detail as well as more standard materials.

Aren't they the Armoured Core guys?

They are but I preferred Chromehounds which they also made.

Armoured core was very anime mecha while Chromehounds was a lot more like Mechwarrior.

I backed it and added on some dragon bosses so atleast ill have those. Hopefully ill get a few games out of it so it wont be a total waste. I was looking into weta's game, giant killer robots, and that looks like a blast. I just hate all these kickstarter games taking so long to come out, i barely remembered i backed ds.

Hyped for the minis mostly, but the game looks like decent fun

Im 99% sure they have confirmed the new mech game they are working on is an armored core reboot. Speaking of which there was going to be an armored core board game, but it dropped the license for that after it got lots of publicity for having a famous license, i cant believe those fucking scam artists got funded.

>Lose amazing dark fantasy franchise.
>For a shitty mech game.

Well, we get the world we deserve.

>Lose it
For fucks sake they can make a new dark fantasy game or more souls game after taking a break to make a handful of new games.
Not to mention Armored Core is an amazing series.

>shitty mech game
I didn't personally like V or Verdict Day, but Masters of Arena and For Answer are some of my ATFs. As long as the miniatures are good-looking, I'm definitely getting in on it even if only to paint.

Also, I'm kinda interested in the actual Dark Souls game itself, but I mostly got everything that wasn't retailer-exclusive out of a desire to paint them. If the gameplay is fun, it's just gonna be icing on the cake. Else, they'll probably get used periodically in a skirmish game as proxy models.

I'm pretty disappointed in the lack of detail on the models, but if this game can help me get even a couple of my normie friends to at least try board games it'll be well worth it.

>s in the US and Germany or at least they were ~20 days ago.
I'm still pretty excited from what I've seen, think it'll be a good game for a couple go arounds with friends and the miniatures mostly look neat.

Salty as fuck about the new version of the dancer though. Old one's pose was so much better.

They lost the license. From's marketing only gave them rights for the designs for the latest installment, and held back a few things that are marketable on their own like White Glint and 9Ball designs. When they asked for more, From pulled the rug from under them.

I kinda hope they succeed (though I haven't checked in a while), the game seemed daring to innovate at least.

Also a backer and can't wait to get my first delivery! With the step change in the quality the newer PVC formulas, hopefully they used the same stuff Mantic used on the Deadzone 2 limited figures as it's superior to their metals and fairly close to resin. The latest PVC seems fine for details, it will be interesting to see how bad the seam lines are, which doesn't matter how good detailing is if a seam cuts through the details I'll be sad

I'm not as fussed about the details as I am about the possible bending on weapons, especially things like Smough's hammer.

They actually have three projects in the air. One is the Armored Core game you mentioned. One is a mystery project supposedly 'unlike anything else From has ever done' which some speculates might be a VR game. And the last one is, brace yourself, a dark fantasy RPG in the Soulsborn style but with a new angle.

The dark fantasy game is turn-based, so no "soulslike".

That's way more information than I am able find. Source?

You are a wise man

Dark Souls is the 40k of video games in that anyone who doesn't like it loses the ability to talk about anything else and will constantly mention it and bring it up in basically any semi-relevant conversation.

I'm so tired of hearing about how you don't like Dark Souls.

I feel this is also true to an extent

I backed it on Kickstarter because I love Dark Souls and have poor impulse control. At the very least the minis will be fun to paint, but I'm hoping that the rules hold up. Has anyone put out a playthrough yet?

There's a few videos on their youtube channel, don't know if any of them are the kind of thing you are after....

youtube.com/watch?v=yL2hngajqNs&list=PLRosiamZQJZRvY_hwXggpbOrJrhYLKQwK

Wait.

Hold the FUCK UP.

Did they seriously make this game, with a bunch of different classes and minis and alternate armor sets, and not include the motherfucking Elite Knight Armor? The archetypal armor and face of the first game, which has appeared in every game since?

I'm sure it's in one of the million stretch goal expansions that were funded.

It is pretty weird that they chose Guardian set over that, but the worse sin is that there is no GIANTDAD

>played every single soulsborne game within a few months of release, clocked over 1000 hours in each one
>a while back I went to my flgs to buy some singles and overhear a few guys talking about dark souls
>it's all "memespeak", just a never ending cavalcade of asinine superficial jargon
>talk to the owner briefly about how I love dark souls but hate revealing my power level
>he sighs, agrees and we play a quick game of commander to kill some time/drown out the mongs
Why must everything good be tainted by faggotry?

"Memespeak"
"Superficial jargon"
What were they saying?

I kind of wanted to do a Necromunda style Bloodborne game where the players are not-Gangs and fight each other and the occaisonal beast.

Like there could be one mission where one party (The Healing Church) has to escort an NPC across the board, but the other party (Executioners say) what them dead for whatever reason.

The twist? The NPC turns out to be Vicar Amelia.

Or monster hunt missions where both teams are in a race to kill Darkbeast Paarl, so they've got to cooperate a bit to weaken him, and then pick the right moment to enact their inevitable betrayals.

There could be things like rooftoop skirmishes, getting mobbed by endless hords of Beastmen in Old Yarnham, stuff like that. Oh, and occaisonally your team-members will go full beast and you'll have to hunt them down.

There's definitely some interesting stuff you could make mechanics out of like insight, beasthood, etc. Question is just whether it would ever be achieved.

3 hour playtime to kill ONE boss. As in you have a campaign where you go through the winged knight, the frost knight, then the dancer, you're going to spend 3 hours doing the winged knight. That is where I lost interest. They hoped to have positive be an hour per boss during the campaign but it takes 3 times that.

The creators were actually aware of Giantdad and would have liked to include him but didn't think Bamco would approve it.
Do we have the full set of player minis available anywhere?

I'm sure they'll release a special MEMELORD edition some day.

Well, some of it's easy to do, firstly the Gangs are the Covenents (even the non-joinable ones like the Powder Keg Covenent) XP would be renamed Blood Echoes, we know there was a fiscal system in place in Yarhnam before it all went to shit so keep coins and gold as is.

You'd need a LOT of terrain though. A LOT. Like Mordheim meets Necromunda a lot.

shit, this needs to be made

>man I was playing some souls last night and we were 3v1 ganking some invaders. Haha praise the sun amirite?
>pfft you wouldn't even be able to handle my chaos blade. I got my friend to drop one for my low level build but next time I'm just going to get a mule so I don't even have to fight the bosses.
>ya well I miss toggle stabbing people, it was totally a game feature. It's also a shame they needed ravioli stepping with ds3

Side note, I just made a Giantdad after completing my SL1 run and holy shit ots really nice to be able to level up and be an unkillable monster

Sucks about Giantdad, but from what I understand of Bamco they are lucky to have the license at all.
I think the most up to date list of minis is on their kickstarter, but it doesn't have renders for all of them. There's a few extra ones in the rulebook they put up I think, I can link it if you are interested.

See
Insert 10 minutes of theory crafted explanations of twinking and counter twinking, along with the principle of fun.

Ok if that's serious stuff that people seriously said I regret asking.

A link would be great. I'm eventually going to get it shipped but I'm impatient as fuck.

dont forget the wost part user.
>people who buy the game explicitly to pvp competitively

static1.squarespace.com/static/56728f72a128e6b1e548ec55/t/5874bd56be65949768e2107b/1484045686732/DS-Core-Rules.pdf

The creator is only sick of it because bandai namco rushed out the original release, cutting a huge amount of content that would have culminated into a truly amazing game.

Judging from the models they're making it based on that horrible third instalment?

It has a smattering from all three, but 2 is really underrepresented. It's basically just the Old Iron King from 2, and the Last Giant which for some reason was retail only in the KS.

Lots of 1, lots of 3, almost no 2.

>ds3
>horrible
the only bad one in the series was 2

2 isn't really that underrepresented, it's got quite a lot of smaller models, lucatiel, Maldron, Armorer Dennis.

It's an odd mix of all three strangely enough.

Please keep this shit on /v/

Source for that?

I find minmaxing to be enjoyable
