Getting the Vampire lord monologuing, with enough time to throw open the blackout curtains.

Could you use warpicks to climb a steep rock wall

In a practical sense, when will I actually get to employ the "permanent" effect of Mordenkainen's Private Sanctum? Is there a way to automate it? Which would be the best effect to have?

Making a Demiplane into a prison cell, the only way in or out being casting Demiplane to access it from outside.

Just better hope you don't get stuck in it yourself.

thats actually really cool

>Rogue gets Supreme Sneak
>When Reliable Talent basically makes it impossible to fail a stealth check anyways

y tho

is there a new season of Adventurer's League to go with Tales of Yawning Portal? i need to get out and socialize

For your treasure room, obviously. My Wizard has a war-room featuring all of the 5 different ways he's used the Imprisonment spell in the form of the material components, which can still be broken to release what's inside. All of them are set to when this Universe dies, so they're all basically there until it's no longer a problem.

The only one he doesn't have in the war room is a Noble who was the head of a human trafficking ring. He used chains to bind him to the earth he was standing on, which just so happened to be at the bottom of the mine his family owned, which has since been collapsed. His pedestal in the war room just has his signet on it.

Reliable Talent also means STR rogues don't have to worry about going about in half-plate.

That'd be fun to play or DM for

>use the default ability score array in the PHB
>15 for INT, get +1 from Ability Score Improvement and +1 from High Elf
>17 INT at 4th level
This isn't, like, bullshit or powergaming is it?

I'd give you adv. on a climb check maybe. If you were using ropes and pitons and shit like that you'd get a similar bonus.

It's bullshit because most people get a stat to 18 at 4.

No, you're expected to get your main attribute as high as you can as soon as you can, since every +1 to hit and damage is precious. I'd expect most of the time people get 17 in a stat at first level.

Well damn, how does that work?

Does anybody actually play the triton race from Volos

Looks like roll20 is BLATANTLY superior.

What do you mean how does that work?

Grab the standard array, put the 15 on your primary stat (STR/DEX for martials, INT/WIS/CHA for casters), +1 or +2 from race bonuses, you start the game with 16 or 17 and 4th level ASI you're either going to take a Feat or round it up to the nearest even number, 18.

Start at 16.
Put both levelup points at 4th into int.

Point buy for 16, or get 15 from default array and use a +2 race (or a +2 ASI at level 4)

Just wanna vent for a second. My dm prefers doling out xp instead of using the clearly superior milestone option. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Are the players expected to return Wave, Whelm and Blackrazor to their previous owners at the conclusion of White Plume Mountain?

Because no player would ever give up that kind of power. Blackrazor in particular is way too good - +3, advantage to EVERYTHING, huge temp HP etc etc

Isn't it too powerful for one character to have?

When playing as a blade pact warlock, is there any reason not to choose the strongest weapons (1d12) in most situations?

Poor guy. So does mine. I don't mind so much though, because the rest of the party are newfriends, so this gives them time to learn their abilities.

That's what the Tomb of Horrors is for user.

1. It doesn't do much to help you til after you kill something.
2. The nature of Blackrazor is to encourage you to obliterate a mook first thing.
3. The utility of a martial is in taking down the big boys first.

Would you not then become the next BBEG? You think you can do better?

Mine die a custom hybrid method where at certain points (milestones) he'd dole out XP accounting for party accomplishments and individual characters adhering to their personal goals and backgrounds.

He dropped it after 5 sessions, thankfully. Besides his retarded short questionnaire, giving out uneven XP is bullshit.

I think you mean 2d6 weapons.

Yes, there are plenty of reasons, most of which revolve around reducing how MAD the character is. You could also take one handed weapons if you want a shield for more AC.
Reac weapons also benefit bladelocks, thanks to PAM.

Not him but even then like
Not really except for voice chat and FoW I guess. Except for DMing, because it's literally impossible to be a DM without shelling out 100 fucking buckaroos

Thanks.

Polls for each of the archetypes in the latest UA.

>Except for DMing, because it's literally impossible to be a DM without shelling out 100 fucking buckaroos

There you go.

>finally reach level 17 as an assassin
>sneak attacks against surprised enemies now add 36d6 damage
>feeling great
>party wizard now has meteor swarm and can do 40d6 to several enemies at once whenever he wants
It's only once per day but I am slightly salty.

Accidentally posted in the bad thread.

I need help with an incredibly childish idea. What would a red dragon eat that would make it horribly flatulent?

races usually give +2 to something and +1 to something else, standard array 15+1 and 14+2 from race, boom, 16 and 16 at 1st level. at 4th level, just +2 to your primary stat, easy 18.

how should i write my character's backstory without being cringeworthy

OP because he's always full of shit.

you might want to use the UA smite weapons, or a finesse one so you don't need to pump str, on top of cha, dex and con; or use a one-handed weapon for hexblade, polearms for feats, etc.

While we're on the subject of stats, my 3rd level paladin has 18str.

Finished build will have 20str, polearm master, tunnel fighter, and sentinel.

Should I take 20str at 4th level or pick up Sentinel? I already have tunnel fighter and polearm master.

On the plus side, if you're a hasted crossbow master and with an ally with commander strike, you can add three extra quadruple damage hits.

best thing to do is make a general outline instead of actually writing cause odds are you are a shitty writer

Is there any online tabletop game thing that allows for animated tokens/animated effects on macros?

you should've known this would happen.

does tabletop simulator do that?

Sentinel.

take the ASI, sentinel isn't even that good, you fucking munchkin piece of shit.

Teach me to minmax. I want to have game ruining power.

PAM will use up your reaction a lot. Sentinel uses your reaction a lot. It's less important to have both than it is to have 20 Str, since you'll be using your Str every turn but you won't use both feats as often.

It's kind of weird, because I'm pretty sure there actually is rules automation in roll20.

Basilisk, tough and stony but still acidic enough to inflame the intestines thanks to their powerful gastric acid.

Play 3.5 or PF. The only thing game-breaking in 5e is the dubious Wish-Simulacrum combo, and if you're asking about this, you aren't making it to that level.

I like that idea. Beholders came to mind too to add some extra volume. You know what this dragon is going to do with his breath.

A baby dragon.

With tunnel fighter the PAM opportunity attack doesn't eat up reaction

Personally, I only use checks like that to determine how long a task takes. For example, beat DC 10 to move up 10 feet, DC 15 for 20 feet, and DC 20 for 30 feet. I would give advantage for the picks though.

well. The science of flatulence says there are four main foods which stimulate the bacteria in the gut to produce gas: Fructose, Lactose, Raffinose and Sorbitol. So basically a combination of Fruit, Milk, Beans and (Artificial) Sugar. I'm sure you could make an extremely large fruit and cream desert of some kind and incorporate red bean paste. If he ate it it would make him very gassy. On the other hand, it's a red dragon, so he might be specifically a carnivore. In which case I would recommend cutting some slots in a cow carcass and filling it with beans, then sewing it back up and leaving it for the dragon.

Nuclear Druid

I missed the tunnel fighter bit. Who is insane enough to allow that?

I'd still say ASI over Sentinel though. Sentinel is not better than maxing out your main stat.

Your options are:

1. Wizard feral winged tiefling or yuan ti purbelood
2. Moon druid (anything with wis, but probably hill giant)
3. Winged tiefling charisma anything, or half elf
4. Martial with variant human and sharpshooter, polearm mastery or great weapon fighting.

You don't need to minmax in PF. Simply play a Wizard and you win it's that simple.

>spend time on Veeky Forums
>realize that I'm not the only one who thinks d&d is a role-playing game
>see threads complaining about pink-haired cat people
>mfw you don't know the half of it
>i didn't even know my bard was an elf
>my half-elf paladin is apparently 170 years old, yet has 18 STR
>my cleric said maybe 3 sentences last session
>My wild mage uses a crossbow unless he rolls a 1 on a d4, then he accifdently casts a spell
>his character doesn't want to use magic
>my rogue is literally a 12 year old elf who willingly wore an elf ear necklace and explicity never bathes
>Also, his DEX was 20 at level 1
>I'm just a barbarian
>I have to make every major decision even though we have 3 CHA based characters

In PF you still wanna prioritize anti-will stuff, stuff that allows no SR, and/or stuff that allows no save.

Considering a red dragon usually burns its food to a crisp, couldn't a water elemental in the vicinity of some sea creature with the right elements floating in it produce huge amounts of sugar crystals that might tempt the dragon when he goes fishing?

Do you really really REALLY want elf PCs emphasizing their elfiness?

So when are they going to add more feats to this game instead of reprinting old AD&D adventures?

>playing a Dorf
>joke around with my character sheet
>Resistances: poison, hitting head in doorways
>fast forward 10 sessions
>temple in a mountain is collapsing, stones falling everywhere
>can't make it outside in a single turn
>dash to the nearest doorway and hang out there
>rocksfall.jpg, party rolls to save
>remind DM that I have resistance to "hitting head in doorways"
>he sighs
>save with advantage

Hopefully never.

Archetypes would be welcome though. Make some of this UA stuff official.

Are there any high quality scans of the PHB/PHB art posted online? I like this art but I can't find any PDF that isn't poor quality or the art itself online.

Yes, actually. That's fairly genius. You could fill it with apple juice, the reduction of which contains Sorbitol.

Is adventurer's league any good? What's it like?

PF has so many more spells for the Wizard to learn compared to 3.5 it's insane, you ain't seen versatile wizards until you see PF

>sleeping in armor
REEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know what you mean. And that fucking last one. That's me, i'm the Warlock who is completely reviled in every city but I have to be the face of the party because everyone else can't think of ideas, lie, or talk in character in any meaningful capacity. I went Fiend Pact so I could blast shit but now I have to do the silver-tongue part as well. It's not a bad role but it's not the one I thought we would have, not to mention literally every time i'm away from the rest of the party they stagnate at the first section they have to say any words at all for.

"Half-elves mature at the same rate humans
do and reach adulthood around the age of 20. They live much longer than humans, however, often exceeding 180 years. "

Besides it's D&D. I prefer quiet players who don't make a fuss, you can always just encourage them to roleplay more if not that's just what they're comfortable with.

I am picturing the world's most coveted apple orchard now. It needs some reason to attract red dragons to accidentally eat these sugar-encrusted sea mammals that conveniently come nearby, and then also to attract black dragons who want to ferment the apples into wine/cider.

He seems to have passed out while everyone's just short resting, give him a break.

>age-based stats
I hope you take similar umbrage with Wizards and Clerics who aren't 50+

Do you make your own character art or tokens if you use roll20 or do you get it from elsewhere?

If so post your shit

Pretty much. Apples are pretty useful. There's a reason they're included in most rustic dishes, they're sweet, but not too sweet, and the alcohol you make with them pairs nicely with lots of dishes.

TFW playing adventurers league and RP doesn't come up much

I totally would RP but I never get a chance

I stitch sprites from FE together for myself and my party members.
yes i'm aware some of the ones at the top are barely changed if that, that's what the Rogue wanted and some of the other guys didn't provide art beyond "is a dwarf"

I make my own tokens with the roll20 template.

Kek. Even though that's not how resistance works, unless we count resisting hitting your head in a doorway as a hyperspecific form of magic resistance.

Honestly the way that 4e handles demihuman aging is something that I've kept in 5e.

Elves and Dorfs might live 100s of years but they mature at only a marginally slower rate than humans.

Goblinoids of course mature at slightly faster rates which helps them recover from the inevitable casualties inherent in being evil dickbags.

Draconic aging is still of course a shit show.

Perhaps an ancient giant cidery would make a good set piece for this. There would be an excuse to have water elemental-powered running water through the facility. The ancient giants' magical secrets and treasure might initially attract the dragons who then get addicted to massive amounts of sugar and/or alcohol.

T E L O M E R E S

>At level 1 Make typical Thief with shitloads of bags and bandoleers of equipment to batman with
>By the time I hit 7 slowly went from generic rouge to Bloodborne character

I'm redoing my token (again), here's the wip

I always assumed that was a problem with AL. I really like to roleplay not rollplay, and not being able to do so is a dealbreaker.

Honestly the way I've made it is that past a certain age demihumans stop maturing at the same rate of humans and age slower. They tend to outlive their human parents but die before their non-human one.

What's your last character's theme song?

>rolled awful stats, a 6 and a 7, nothing higher than 16 either
>decide to go with -2 dex and -2 con, rp it's an old fart human wizard with a collapsed lung
>74 years old but still lv1 because ???
>dm doesn't want to kill me out of mutual spite (i hate the character) so it doesn't matter at all

life is a most complex set.

...

>i don't want more character options because I'm still butthurt over 3.5
> I want wizards to do their shitty overly restricted PrC substitute instead!

You are the cancer killing D&D.

>not cancer

In the spirit of last thread, what are some pranks you can do with Sovereign Glue? Besides the obvious replace the king's lube with it.

Yes, because a Wizard needs to club enemies over the head.

Glue your pussy shut so that DM is foiled in his plans to rape you.
