GW hate thread

Let's have a good old fashioned GW hate thread.

Age of Sigmar

/thread

I will play Devil's advocate.

Ahem.

The newest releases mean that GW cares about the gaming community again.

Model prices are very reasonable, you can't find cheaper minis. If you can, they are not up to the same standard.

GW is bringing back some specialist games.

>GW cares about the gaming community

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAAHAHHAHHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHAAHAHAHAHHHAAHAHAHAHHAHAA!

>GW is bringing back some specialist games.
Bringing them back malformed beyond recognition. The latest release is to Necromunda what Dreadfleet was to Man-o-War.
The terrain is rad though.

You laugh, but I hear these arguments in fvaour of GW in every age of shitmar thread.

I do find it funny they haven't fucked with the perfection that is BFG.

If they wanted the last of their loyal fans to leave, they'd try and "improve" Battlefleet Gothic.

Well BFG was overpriced as hell, but the game was great fun.

And by overpriced, i mean 20 bucks for a cruiser. The good thing was you did not need many ships to have a fully functional army/navy.

I also think the quality was a LITTLE better on the BFG models, but not 15$ more.

It wasn't too bad when released, those two plastic cruisers were £8.

On initial release, but they were still a lot more then other companies charged. And for pewter models, the BFG prices were off the charts insane. Running escorts for your cruisers was frustrating since a squadron of 4 destroyers might cost more then your plastic battleline.

>no mention of Aeldari or cucks

What have you done with the real Cheetah-user?!

GW is trapped in an endless spiral of fail. Models aren't selling because they're too expensive so they raise the price (which makes no sense as you should lower price to encourage sales) so people don't buy them so the prices go up so they raise the price so SERIOUSLY HOW DO THEY NOT SEE THE PROBLEM HERE

That argument is from 2015. GW has turned a corner.

>he doesn't know about the discounted/free models and record sales/stocks due to plastic 30k bargain boxes

They did see a problem, that's why they sacked the CEO for the new guy who is turning everything around.

They lost me as a customer for life when they doubled the price of Dire Avengers overnight like flipping a switch.

I can't really hate them right now. 8e will be a grat improvement and new players-bait, AoS is a good newbie-friendly game with neat minis and their deals like start collecting boxes are decent. As a fresh player (playing since 2014) I can't really bitch about anything.

>I can't really bitch about anything.

>Ignores death of Fantasy.

Fuck you Scrub.

They finally advance the 40k story more than in the last 10 years.
Don't do it with books, written by some great authors that the Black Library has to offer.
Rather do it in sidenotes in a campaign series, that you can't really play if you have the wrong army.
Also a campaign book costs double of a novel for much less content.

>8e will be a grat improvement

I've been playing since the middle of 3rd ed and there has never been any new edition which was an overall "great improvement". At best there will be more positive than negative changes, but don't for a second think that there will be a huge amount more.

>2015+2
>still /threading his own post

I used to complain about GW.
Then I got a Job.
Turn out this is one of the cheapest hobby when you are an active member of the society

>I've been playing since the middle of 3rd ed

Which is ironic because 3E was a massive improvement to 2E. Hopefully 8E will be the next 3E.

??? Price have only beeen going down in the last 2 years

This times a million. I'm wasting money on GW bullshit because it's so much cheaper than buying anything else I want, like car upgrades for time attack and track racing.

Their newer releases are more and more expensive though. $30 for an individual dude in a blister is not cheaper than the rest of the market. Their games are still the worst designed on the market while being the most expensive.

To be fair, it's hard for me to hate them right now, what with their efforts at communication and bringing back some good stuff like GSC, and giving nice goodies for Tzeenchian forces, but...

STOP NERFING MAH NIDS, GOD DAMNIT !

>Cheapest hobby
>When every other miniatures game is cheaper
Whatever you say redshirt.

and yet on the whole still the most popular. curious isn't it?

>mfw morons always use HQ prices to make some kind of point

No, $30 for a shitty plastic monopose blister isn't a better deal. But $2.50 for a multi-part plastic with good detail is better than $10 for a metal monopose which is what the competitors sell.

>Turn out this is one of the cheapest hobby when you are an active member of the society

Reading comprehension retard. Minis' as a hobby in general.

And? Argumentum ad populum has never been valid.

He meant miniature wargaming in general, since you know, 99% of wargamers are playing GW shit. Maybe if you got over your butthurt and stayed in school to develop reading comprehension you could afford hobbies you like instead of hobbies that are "cheaper".

Age of Sigmar

Fall of Cadia

Fuck happened to you GW? Did you throw out all your staff and hire interns from the autism clinic?

It is when sales are involved. You're not even using argumentum ad populum correctly.

>What is reading comprehension
>What is a hobby

My pedal board cost 12K €.
And thats just the pedalboard, no amp or guitar.
So yeah Wargaming as a whole is fucking plebtier shit.
Wargaming is literraly one of the cheapest hobby.

What about board games, jogging, fitness or caring for your goldfish?

That was explicitly mentioned in the context of GW though.

Does every other miniatures game have these 40k and AoS models that I really like? No? Well fuck off then.

Seriously this hobby isn't that expensive if you have a regular job. If you don't, what the hell are you bitching about luxury goods for?

How to spot the Highschooler

Both things people have been calmouring for for ages. An easy entry game and moving the plot forward. And considering their sales over the past financial year, it's working.

Agreed, new GW is great.

>Waaah It's too expensive

Then don't play, find another hobby, I do not fucking understand this argument.

>When every other miniatures game is cheaper

Then go and play them ,fuck off, stop complaining

>Wargaming is literraly one of the cheapest hobby.

Hiking, Biking, DnD, Computer Games, etc.

Wargaming is/can be cheaper then, racing cars, flying planes, buying a good drum kit, etc.

But calling it cheap is a misnomer. And I say that as someone who makes a lot of money.

So he is wrong? I am glad to see that we are ina greement.

>both things casual-level players have been clamoring for for ages

Fixed.

>Age of Sigmar
>In top 5 miniature games in USA
Yeah, what a mistake

For me I quit playing GW stuff after showing up to a gamesday with my WHFB army, and being flat out told that I wasn't allowed to play the game. Smart business strategy? Sure. But it is nothing that I like putting up with.

A good bike is at least 12k usd.
I do mountain biking.

Only if you compare them to GW at its worst. New GW is still nothing like mid 90s GW.

Minecraft is one of the biggest computer games worldwide.

My Little Pony and Steven Universe are hugely popular across the world.

McDonald's is a food place that has served billions of people.

Something being popular or big does not mean it's good.

No. You need reading comprehension aswell apparently.

>Computer Games

Those are more expensive, moron. Playing shitty free/$5 indie Steam games on a notebook isn't "computer gaming". Even building your own system with average specs using cheapest OEM parts costs at least $750, and that's before you buy online or DRM games.

...

>Implying
Their new models are more expensive and static than ever. The customization is nice, but they aren't well proportioned or as detailed as other offerings. Other companies like Perry do a good job at making much cheaper customizable plastic kits as well.
>B-but those don't count!
Yeah OK, whatever.

shut the fuck up. don't even try to claim GW or any mini game is some sort of high level tacital hobby.

>GW fanboys WILL defend this

>Primarch on the cover
>Primarch model reused
>Eldar death God in cover
>death God model released
>Abby in cover
>giant techpriest released

Fuck you gw nobody wanted thick celestine. That's not what they meant by plastic sisters you fucking twats

If you're going to use a comparison, use a proper one. Perry's are historical, which are universally cheaper due to everyone and their dog making them. An apt comparison would be PP or now Fantasy Flight. Both of whom are a damn sight more expensive.

You would think that with Abaddon being such an important character that they would release a new plastic version. Hopefully he gets something in 8th.

>tfw Age of Sigmar is pretty great
>Has an awesome community
>Is getting tons of support
>Really easy to find a game
>Tournament scene is also great

Feels good

Until you buy a house and have children

No, no one defends that. It's a piece of shit and everyone agrees.

Have that. As long as you're not a retard and know how to budget, it's perfectly fine. I fish and bike ride and can still afford this too.

>online drm

Real pc gamers are satisfied with doom 2

>No true scotsman
As pointed out even Doom 2 can offer a plethora of options with online play, and a boatload of mods.

Yeah that's fuckin' metal at shit, a literal rain of corpses and a maze of tombs and an ocean of screaming souls, and a bridge of burning blood, literal Jew ovens too, that's all hype as fuck.

You would think but gw has seemed to confuse "space marines sell" with "good guys sell"

your mistake.

I don't think I've literally ever seen someone on Veeky Forums defend that, but I don't play AoS or go to the AoS threads. I've only ever seen AoS players whining about AoS in 40K threads bring it up as an example of how shit it is, and nobody ever disagreed.

Would make for easy bait defending it though.

>Spend (about) £100 on hobby a month
>People say I'm crazy
>Same people buy multiple cups of coffee from Starbucks (and the like) a day
>Same people buy their lunch out every day
>Same people buy multiple take outs a week

I dunno...

So GW's figures AREN'T the cheapest on the market while still being up to standard as pointed out? Glad to see that we can agree on things.

Fantasyfags are still butthurt?

>spend 50% of my income on mortgage
>spend another 40% on compulsory living costs food, electricity, car registration etc.

>gw wants 100 dollars from me for 5 rhubic terminators

Gw still has fucked pricing in Australia.

Oh they're definitely expensive. But like i said, PP's models are, model for model more expensive. And Rune Wars from FF are even worse. They're 8 subpar skeletons for £22

>shit on man's car
>man begrudgingly uses car
>shitting on it was a good idea

Fantasy fags are always going to be butthurt. It's understandable, but still pathetic.

Australia gets fucked by everyone, don't pretend it's a GW exclusive thing.

I got fed up with them in about 1989 when White Dwarf stopped being a magazine about gaming and became a catalogue dedicated to "The Games Workshop Hobby" as they called it.

You want to look at what they did to the actual hobby, the fates of small retailers and publishers etc.

Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader was their last worthwhile product.

It's exhausting desu

>Warhammer Fantasy
Sell less than paints and tools in GW for like 5 years

>Fantasy players haven't bought anything in years
>Won't buy anything

>Fantasy is retired
WHY? REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

They're still reeing to this day

...

I live in Northern Ireland, we use the pound and despite this, Games Workshop dont guve us the cheaper British prices, they give us the inflated Euro prices and convert it to pounds. So we end up paying extra for no fucking reason.

its a nebulon b but retarded

Board Games... my board game collection could fund ever army in the game with room to spare. And my fiancé spends a hell of a lot on jogging "equipment". Enough to match my wargaming costs.

Not sure how you think those are cheaper at all...

Bruh, you live in the UK.

You can order from LGS' on the mainland.

I hike/camp, bike, rock climb, and shoot guns for my main hobbies.

>hiking
getting a decent kit of boots, jacket, bag, and pack can easily run a one to two grand if you are a pleb consumer who buys arc'teryx and patagonia.

>climbing
even just climbing indoors with a membership costs upwards of $500-700 a year
outdoorsman? some lasportiva shoes, a mid-line blackdiamond harness, a crashpad and a couple ropes and you're out 6 bills. if you climb regularly those shoes need a resole within half a year.

>biking
lol

>firearms
do i even need to say anything?

the reason warhammer is seen as expensive is either because the player
a) has few/no other hobbies as a point of comparison
b) compulsively buys way more models than they can possibly use

Fuck, just attending comiccon this year is gonna cost me over $1100 just between airfare, ticket and lodging.

...

Last time I checked, they wouldn't deliver so I had to order from Ireland.

The fuck, nigga you're British, how can they justify that.

Order your shit from Darksphere in future, they're corrupt as fuck and sell stuff all over the world regardless of GW policy anyway. I doubt they'll even know they can't ship to NI (if they really have an embargo just like Europe which I can't believe)

and by the way, i'm not saying that the price for what amounts to plastic models isn't stupid. but it's hardly an outlier compared to other hobbies, especially ones where maintenance/wear and tear are involved, or anything with a membership.

at least ten years down the line, barring freak accidents or intentional abuse, your space marines will still look like space marines.

They justify it by shipping apparently. Yeah, GW are that retarded. I mean its not a lot, like a £35 set in England might only be £38 here but it quickly adds up.

im a hopeless electronics nerd.

thing is its mostly really cheap, and so too can this hobby.

buy lots on ebay for cheap mang.

yous gotta be a jew about it.

When Trump negotiates a trade deal with the UK and slaps tariffs on Chinese imports, I am going to be so happy when GW's profits shoot up while Privateer Press and its ilk crash and burn.

I've been admittedly out of the loop for a while.

>Well apples may be expensive, but oranges are even pricier!

They really haven't, though their marketing team got smarter.

>>biking
>lol
What's the board to ask about bikes? /trv/ ?

/n/
but I don't go there to talk bikes so I have no idea the quality of the conversation

I'll see for myself. I'm in need of urban folder, something affordable on second world budget that isn't Ukrajina-brand

>Computer Games

If you're serious about it a good computer for games is more than $1000USD then a good internet connection is about $100/month? Maybe less, even if you get 10 games a year for half their price then you'd be spending around $300 per year just for games, so all that is around $2500 for the first year and depending on how obsolete your computer is in the next 5 years you may have to spend another $500 to update your shit so its tip top.

A good Warhammer army is going to last decades for around $500USD or a $1000USD depending on how much FW shit you want to buy.

Also if you're serious about biking then the cheapest shit is around $2000USD and thats not counting parts for fixing and the good shit is easily around 5k-10kUSD.

Warhams is not exactly cheap but its easy one of the cheapest hobbies.

You need way less money to buy a board game and have fun than buy even a smaller army and play with someone who has hopefully also an army.
Just because YOU have so many board games doesn't mean it is generally more expensive.
