Pathfinder General /pfg/

Lovable Scamps Edition
Have you ever had an NPC or PC that just wouldn't give up trying to get in someone's pants? Did it lead to plot, backstory or just a cheap laugh?

Any games recruiting with avowed in play?

>He still plays avowed

youtube.com/watch?v=XUhVCoTsBaM
I still need more ideas on how to bring these Aztec Gods of Fitness to fuck up my players' day

Nobody is running avowed until it settles down

I still play avowed!
Betrothed is the cutest.

I'm being way too tempted to ask to convert to the .jpeg pact

Betrothed is a meme and one that killed the avowed.

"you get two characters! With no drawbacks!"

There was a barbarian girl that kept trying to bang my half-elf because he was the only dude in the party. She was annoying as fuck, and then she left the party.
I kinda miss her now that she's gone. Was an okay change of pace, and was an okay contest to everyone else.

How else do you suggest I play mighty and powerful gods?

>You get two characters with almost no feature loss!
>But they can't use class abilities without kneecapping themselves!
>B-but there's two of you now!
>This is totally NOT cumbersome and is TOTALLY worthwhile!

>Paladin oversleeping
>Get some honey and ask the arcanist to cooperate with a prank, and use prestidigitation to turn the honey really cold and also spicy
>Sneak up over the bed and drip the honey across their face and into their mouth to wake them up
>Paladin screams and quickly goes to wash the taste out of their mouth
>Laugh and go back to the arcanist to ask her to use prestidigitation to clean the honey off my hands
>She says sure and then casts Tailful Polymorph on me
>nat1 the save

>mfw

...

So my gaming group has a few issues that may not be issues.
1. They don't know that the target of a ranged attack gets +4 AC if basically anything blocks Line of Sight. The Ranger character would be much less useful if this was known.
2. They don't know that casting while threatened provokes an AoO. The wizard would have died this session if they knew.
3. The cleric didn't know that channel energy doesn't penetrate walls or large obstructions. If he knew then the Druid's animal companion would have died.
Should I remind them of these rules or just let the game go on?

>he forgot rule 0

Haha suck it you absentminded fae twat.

Yes,

They are rules that are not obstructive, poorly though or hard to follow.

I mean, if you want to really fuck with them, you can just keep a lid on it until the worst possible moment, then reveal all the shit they've been doing wrong so far and how they've managed to create an alternate universe and now they need to fix all the shit
Fun idea, but a little too reliant on stuff that won't be happening in the campaigns any time soon.

>with almost no feature loss!
Except for damage and CL penalties

>can't use class abilities without kneecapping themselves
Or just, sacrificing dual action economy to essentially contribute the exact same way an unarchetyped avowed would, with no extra drawbacks

>This is totally NOT cumbersome and is TOTALLY worthwhile!
It's definitely more complex than someone who wants a straightforward single character would like, and the damage balancing still feels awkward, but I think you're hugely underestimating the potential of having two people in constant telepathy with no distance limit, and the possibility to spec them with completely different feat, shape and skill rank choices.

The GM is not completely fluent in pathfinder rules. He was actually surprised when I reminded him that firing ranged weapons into melee take a -4 on the attack roll. So I attribute these to ignorance than intentional rule 0 usage.

Then just bait them by having Santana fuck with an NPC they like. You're already admitting to being unoriginal so you may as well go all the way

Rule 0 has sorta two meanings. The first is that the DM has final say, no matter what the rulebook says, but the other is the relevant one. The point of the game is to have fun. If they're having fun and pointing out these rules would make them have less fun then don't do it.

right

Point the rules out politely when they would come up, ideally before people make decisions based off not knowing them.

Make sure your group understands you're doing it to be helpful and if it becomes annoying you'll stop or tell them at the end of the session instead.

Also keep in mind a lock of PF rules are fuck awful.
For example the firing into melee penalty rule should never have existed, so it's fair game to say "That's the rule but it's a bad rule"

I'm not being unoriginal, I just like memeing on my players because I also need to have fun
It's not supposed to be a major plot point, at least not initially. More of a, SUDDENLY AZTEC FITNESS GODS kind of thing. The plot is already fairly convoluted at this point.

>Tfw turned the main villain of each JoJo part into an encounter
>Tfw they only ever got to beat Kira on their own and had to take Diavolo and Pucci in super ambushes
>Every other boss was either befriended, turned into someone elses problem, or was DIO and therefor never truly lost

Betrothed (and aspirant too, really) is lower floor, higher ceiling.

It takes more effort and build choices to make them do what a normal avowed could do, but they can do a ton of stuff a base Avowed can't.

Penalty for firing into melee is a valid rule if you're a LG pansy who cares so much about friendly fire that he gets his breeches all fussy whenever your allies are in your crosshairs

The firing into melee rule is really necessary. It makes it so that ranged characters have to invest in a feat to avoid it and it gives a valid reason to engage in melee if there are ranged mooks firing at you.

Why does that fox girl look so horrified?

SHE WASN'T A FOXGIRL

DAMN YOU TAILFUL POLYMORPH

>2017
>Not wanting a fluffy tail

>TAILFUL POLYMORPH

Truly, its the evil of our time.

HOW THE HECK ARE YA, LADS?

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND?

>any time
>being a furry

No.

Leave me alone shouty.

Hunted some monsters, 'bout to go spelunking.
Having a hell of a time trying to pick just six for a team

>Tailful Polymorph
I must have missed something, I’ve been away.

Yes.

We managed to get to the end of the sideshow module and I managed to finally get a game I've been itching to run for a while on the road AND I managed to almost kill two party members every encounter.

I don't have any games to play.

The weekend is terrible.

DSP put out an April Fools book that includes a spell to give anyone a fluffy tail.

Betrothed, no matter how I look at it, just looks like a clunky mess that doesn't really feel like it really does anything besides "be the waifu archetype". Yea you can toot all you want about how it opens up all these craaaaazy things but it doesn't click. It just looks awkward, like a videogame puzzle boss themed around a pair of inseparable Magical Twins instead of two separate individuals coming together.

It's just not my cuppa, I just wish it hadn't been advertised as being something that would be my kind of cuppa.

user, can I have the sauce on that image?
Please and thank you. All I get on google is on japanese and I can't read that.

So is it just me or is the Brewkeeper PrC pretty fucking amazing?

Sorta nervous, for non-Veeky Forums reasons! Also trying to figure out if random encounters are actually bad game design!

It really depends on how they're designed.

Done well, they can really flesh out a world and what's going on it.

Here you are, my friend!

imgur.com/gallery/1SgK6

I'm pretty sure that's correct.

>Ranged characters have to invest in a feat to not take crippling penalties
>Any melee character who wants to fight ranged sometimes has to also take the feat to make them even consider looking at a bow

>valid reason to engage in melee if there are ranged mooks firing at you.
Except no because Precise Shot is the first feat you would give to any ranged mook at all, because of how necessary it is.

Does it straight up let you spontaneously cast from your entirely list as long as its a draught?

So spontaneously casting alchemists for whatever? With no max spells known

thats pretty fucking sick

Yes, but at what cost? If the party randoms into some encounters out in the wilderness while traveling between two cities, yes, that suggests that the world is a dangerous place and it might even give them insight into the local area. But it also wastes time, especially since the party's not likely to find anything rewarding or interesting for their trouble. Often, the party might not even have a reason to fight in the first place, in which case they really should just be avoiding the random encounter altogether, unless they can't.

Precise shot needs point-blankshot as a prerequisite.

Man, I love that so much.

It's perfect in every way.

>. But it also wastes time, especially since the party's not likely to find anything rewarding or interesting for their trouble
You'll be surprised at what players will suddenly take an interest in.

…Do you have a screencap?

The final few hours for Legacy and no last-minute apps? For shame.

drivethrurpg.com/product/208752/April-Augmented--2017

No.

Well, how do you make random encounters interesting enough to be worth the game time a combat can eat up? I don't mean "what's a good idea for a random encounter" since a single good idea is useless for something that could and likely will happen often. This is more of an encounter design question, I suppose. What do you do to make random encounters more than just a punishment for traveling? If they only exist as such, I don't think they're really worth the time the group has to spend on them, especially for a group that has sessions that only last 4 or 5 hours or move slowly through combat.

I did, yes-weather cleared up enough today to get some good running in, I had a pleasant visit with my new neighbor, played video games with some old university buddies, and I'll be joining a new tabletop group come next Saturday, so I'm pretty excited for that.

>If you're not playing a human or a class that gives an early bonus feat you have to deal with your crippling ranged penalties until level 3

Can you HONESTLY say this is good design?

It's about as good design as fucking rogues up for not having darkvision.

"Oh, enjoy those to-hit penalties and inability to use sneak attack in shady situations"

Help me Veeky Forums. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get into Legacy and it'll be two weeks before any other games I'm applying to make selection.

Will I ever get into a game?

Working on one. Probably slip it in at the last hour at this pace.

You can always Have some private fun with other applicants of games, even if you never get in.

Just find a profile that gets your rocks off. We're more willing for spontaneous play than you think.

What's your app?

there's a reason we almost all use elephant in the room feat taxes

>INB4 SOMEONE BITCHES ABOUT BUT WITH POW ITS TOO STRONG REEE

i don't care.

What if he's interested in actual adventure and not typefucking?

It's not that with POW it's too strong, it's that str builds could sure use some exclusive options to make up for taking what is essentially a garbage stat.

>mfw your pure waifu got cocksleeved by some Chad that isn't even in the game

Smash from the air great we're fucking done fuck off.

Yeah here's some advice.

What about Tax Exempt?

docs.google.com/document/d/1IT47F8KrUddFT4PxuhozLA6XM41tPItYI0kJKNKzFpk/edit#heading=h.emo6voq8qtkn

...what?
No, really, what the fuck?

Better than your waifu getting cocksleeved by the _____DOUG_____

>Smash from the air
Only fighters can get that and that feat line is arguably fucking busted in it's own right.

>Good design
>Pathfinder
Choose one

>Fun game
>Using pathfinder
You may choose two

Sadly it's the truth.

In my opinion tax exempt goes too far to the point of where I feel my feat choices start to become irrelevant.

Give us a preview. It better be waifu. If it's another 6 foot male warrior, I'm going to cry.

Unchained Rogue fixed that.
Enemies with concealment can now be hit by sneak attack, as long as they don't have total concealment.

So, give me your next excuse for why Precise Shot needs to be a thing.

I think the firing into melee penalty should be removed entirely and I don't like the fact Elephant in the Room has become the common standard when it was too conservative and didn't take that step

>implying I can git gud.

>he doesn't know anyone can use that with another feat

Please stop

>I WANT A STRENGTH OPTION TO BE AWESOME

>here's one

>ITS TOO STRONG

Get over yourself.

I'm not going to ask what happened, as the more pressing question is: How?

If he's not in the game, then what's the problem?

>No, really, what the fuck?

The user was postulating a scenario where, although you did not get into the game, you could still send PMs to applicants that got you turned on and suggest you do some filthy one-shot with their character.

Therefore, the other user was showing shock and disgust at the possibility that the character he's currently "into" in the game has already been active in smut with people that aren't even in the game.

Precise shot should be a thing so that people who are unskilled with range are less skilled than ranged specialists.

That's true. I'm a bit leery because of the whole fuss about leaking logs, though, and I'm actually just in the mood to roleplay a little and get into the character's headspace better.

I won't tell, but I'll hint by saying I've been memed on a bunch and I'll probably not get in because of timeslot issues.

How is that not a valid complaint. Cut From Air/Smash from Air does bad things to the game while adding very little that's good.

>exclusive

This is the thing people often miss.

Brutal Slayer is predicated on a stupid concept.

Man do I have some bad news for you then.

>Being able to shoot at someone attacking your friend without penalties is the mark of a specialist

Jesus christ.

>does bad things to the game

>by making strength based fighters badass and awesome at what they do

Then just play core you little bitch

Lame

Isn't it pretty much only a thing because the world isn't ready for a STR to AC feat but is fine with "invalidate STR in two feats".

Have you ever seen people in melee combat?

Yes, you need to be an expert to nail that shot and not hit your friend, you can't just pick up a fucking bow and arrow and do it

>TFW we will never get a non-PoW Brutal Slayer port into Unchained Rogue

Get the fucking noose, Jimmy, I'm ready for it.

>I am now immune to every ranged attack ever
You can be awesome and not be broken you know.

But...it's private. It's separate from the campaign. It's an AU at best. How the fuck could anyone be so autistic as to think "nuuu muh waifu is lost to me."

That's like whining that someone else got in first when you weren't even in the game.

Believe me, I've grappled with this problem and gotten over it.

Literally all the male applicants.

Ok, you can't be pleased, thanks then.
