Pathfinder General /pfg/

How do we redeem dragons and dragon-related creatures from their meme status in /pfg/?

Unified /pfg/ link repository: pastebin.com/hAfKSnWW

Current Playtests: pastebin.com/quSzkadj

Old Thread:

Are all the /pfg/ personalities really just /xivg/ avatarfags migrated?

By literally playing them straight, without any of the smut or subversion we seem so obsessed with sprinkling onto those shiny scales.

The Red Dragon is not Tsundere. The Blue is not going to call you baka. When the Silver assumes a human form, it's not going to be hyper-sexualized.

That is exactly why he would be the leader, then you can get a similarly savage orcman to translate him in a 'polite' way

The shit is /xivg/?

Use Outer Dragons and make them eldritch abominations

>your elven assistant that has been with you for years ends up being an unfathomably-ancient dragon that voraciously hunts knowledge
>the lizardlike creature flying over the countryside grants nightmares to all whose shadow it crosses
>a telescope pointed to the stars meets a reptilian eye staring back at it.

>then you can get a similarly savage orcman to translate him in a 'polite' way

... What? You're going to use an Orc to translate to Mwangi tribals?

Why not... You know, play a Mwangi? Did you know the Mwangi have tribes that have fully integrated into the colonies, and are by all accounts pretty much dark-skinned Chelaxians in mind and spirit? They're called the Kalabuta.

Final Fantasy XIV General from Veeky Forums I imagine.

.....yes. This.

No mwangi in the apps yet my man. It is what I mean.

Full grown Dragons are demigods in my setting, meaning you do NOT fuck with them.

When you see that young adult dragon in early levels you don't think "Sweet, easy XP and crafting materials!" you think "I need to get the fuck away from it right the fuck now before it's parents find out where I am."

I make campaigns and missions around it, having PCs be hired for minor favors to benevolent dragons Or even saving a red's kidnapped son while he's busy fighting another elder dragon.

This while still suggesting that when your PC reaches demigod status, YOU TOO can lewd a dragon!

Also no half-breeds.

But c@ loves you.

I'm trying to get my pal into tabletop games but he's offput by the amount of complicated rules and number crunching some characters builds have to endure.

What's the simplest to play (but still effective) character build you can think of so I can start him out with something easy?

barbarian or monk. Both are really fun, barbarian is most effective especially if you do invulnerable rager with superstitious and spellsunger, it becomes a force to be reckoned with. Monk though, is a bit on the softer side but with all the possible abilities and moves it will get him used to everything.

alternatively if he is patient, try wizard or cleric.

>aether kineticist dealing out 30 damage per shot
>two-shotted a hill giant even though it's CR 7 and she is only level 5

And this is a tier 4-5 class? Someone please explain, are hill giants just non-viable monsters in all circumstances? This level 5 character solo'd a monster meant for a group of level 7s. And this wasn't really lucky rolls, either. He got in the low 20s to hit both times with semi-average rolls.

I know it's laughable to be getting tilted from a kineticist but seriously I don't know how I am supposed to counter this.

2h martial but you're a terrible person for introducing your friend through Pathfinder. It'll ruin his expectations of the hobby even if he ends up loving it.

Killing Hill Giants easily is what makes you T4

To go beyond you have to be able to do that AND other stuff

Not him, but wouldn't sorcerer/spontaneous be better for a first spellcasting class?

t. a martialfag who never plays casters

Probably a paladin. Your mechanics largely boil down to "point at a baddie and watch it die" or "ass-slaps for healing".

That said, Pathfinder's not the easiest system to get into for a complete newbie. Might be better to start him off with something simpler, like 4e or 5e.

Yeah, Hill Giants are pretty much shitters all the way through. Aether Kineticists are arguably the "best" when it comes to options for combat and out-of-combat, but otherwise your problem lies in your choice of monster. The Hill Giant is basically just "big human with heavy weapon", and thus is vulnerable to everything a normal human with a greatclub WOULD be weak to.

Hill Giants are worthless garbage

Play 5e.
Not even kidding.

I prefer PF but I think 5e is better at introducing people to the hobby.
