Its not surrealism, but its a pretty messed up and cool animation based on a play. The play started a riot when it came out.

Not fabricated per-se. Louis Wain did spend his last 15 years or so in a sanatorium, but it's not neccesarily true that he had schizophrenia. That's one doctor's (post-morgen) diagnosis based on the idea that the paintings represent a progression, when they most likely are not in order. And the guy was doing "normal" stuff still late in life as well, not just the freaky fractal cats.
Look into Noumenon the rpg OP. It might have the level of weird you need.
