So, I'm planning to try my hand at making some OC. What's a decent image page for one page of a multi-part CYOA? If it matters, I'm using Paint.

Old Men in Bath Robes controlling everything was a worn out meme when Europe discarded it after the Romans.

Blame it as much on the DnD fans as the devs. The fans often throw fits and whine about anime whenever someone suggests martials get larger than life abilities like that.

Nothing is wrong with being a badass. The stupid part is insisting that you be a completely normal soldierman yet somehow fight equivalently with those people raining down meteors. No extra powers or abilities, no super-human feats of strength. Just soldiermanning like normal.

Shifting rag. Makes it possible to hide from corrupt governments and pursuers should I need to, and makes certain that I'll only stand out when I want to. Could actually be overpowered if used correctly. Combines nicely with skill thief.

Kriscarn. Concealable, boosts your mobility and can't be disarmed? I see no downside here. Maybe not as flashy as a big magic sword but the potential for *teleports behind u* and other speedy shenanigans is too strong.

I already know how to use a bow, so Eurytus for sure. Has the benefit of being indistinct so it won't give me away while I'm in disguise. It also retains its effectiveness if I use shitty arrows. Maybe not the best for sneaky kills though, what with all the screaming and gurgling.

The thing that really pisses me off about that is that mythological heroes are absolutely anime-tier. It's just like all those gritty, dark reboots where everyone wears brown and black. People in the past had shitty lives and they knew it, so they acted flamboyant and colorful and told stories about everything being fucking amazing, because that's fun.

This is when you include Ki or Chi or whatever in your setting and let martial artists roundhouse kick an elephant.

I agree with you, definitely. Look into Cuchulain or something and his freakish fighting powers, his ability to literally flip out and turn into a monster, and the fact that his spear had magic heart-seeking powers. Cuchu wasn't just some mundane dude stabbing at you with a +1 spear.
