>Hey. I tried something like this in the CYOA thread and there was enough interest in forming teams and shit as characters I decided to make this into an entire thread on its own. Basically you use the Worm CYOA to make yourself a superhero and join a team. The goal of this thread is not to build super OP characters, but build interesting characters who would work together in teams. Compared to the regular CYOA this is a low-power game. The CYOA itself is super easy to break, so there’s a few rules to go along with it to maintain the theme of the thread, keep things balanced and prevent this thread from turning into a race to make the most OP character possible.

>The setting itself is Metropolis, a typical extra-large New York sandbox rip-off. Even though it’s all the same setting you can pick Gestation, the Golden Age or Worthless Opponent as your scenario, but it won’t mean much more than a difference in starting points. Canon characters – Contessa, Skitter, Eidolon, Glaistig Uaine, etc – don’t exist in Metropolis. Every organisation mentioned in the CYOA still exists, but with none of the canon characters in it and they are based out of Metropolis. The Protectorate and the Wards still exist, as does the PRT. The Guild is not Canadian. The Undersiders are pre-Taylor heisters. The ABB and E88 are locked in a turf war and the Merchants sell drugs to homeless people. S9 exists and you can be in it, but you’ll probably end up with a kill order on you.

>Cauldron still exists and is still a secret organisation that wants to manufacture more parahumans and take control of as many parahuman organisations as possible in preparation for fighting the Entities. Conspirators are active members of Cauldron and still get access to those sweet, sweet Cauldron powers. If you have a dead shard and you aren’t a case 53, you either stole from Cauldron or secretly work for them. If you work for them, your job is to get into a position of power within your organisation to further cauldron’s reach. If you stole from them expect Conspirators to hunt you down – or heroes working for Cauldron.

>The Birdcage exists. It is not in Metropolis, and unless stated is exactly the same as in canon – a giant guardless prison run by AIs with no way out. If you are a villain and you get caught three times or you get caught after doing something horrific you end up here til it’s time to fight the entities.

>1) Duplicate powers don’t stack. Two people with power fluctuation standing next to each other would not buff each other’s power fluctuations. This is to stop the most OP builds.
>2) You can only spend a maximum of 15 Shard points on powers. This includes the 3S it takes to upgrade a power to its second trigger. This rule is in place to stop people building characters with a million high S powers (vigilantes I’m looking at you) or who are otherwise obscenely broken – Worm parahumans are closer to being x-men than justice leaguers in power level. It also stops everyone from taking a million flaws to get ridiculous powers. We can’t all be vagrants who got kidnapped and tortured by S9 and Ziz. Conspirators are the exception to this rule – they can spend up to 20 points on powers (perks of being cauldron).

>3) No Abaddon shards or Negentropy. No-one has Abaddon shards in canon Worm and this is a low power game anyway. Negentropy is a no go because the entities lose all incentive to hand out powers if they’ve developed immortality. If you’re upset because “muh immortality” keep in mind as a parahuman you’re unlikely to live for much longer than a decade anyway (life in spandex is violent and short).
>4) No more than 3 Endbringers at a time. First come first served, and you play like canon Endbringers – you periodically show up to wreck everybody’s shit.
>5) I’m thinking of making this into a proper RP if I can find a decent place to host it. No drop-ins or gifts – let’s keep it in-character.

>A few final notes:

>Case 53 flaw x1 = you are a human with a few extra parts, like elf ears, feathers in your hair, weird pupils/irises/sclera, extra fingers etc. Think Canary from canon.

>Case 53 Flaw x2 = you are still recognisably humanoid, but not as a “human”. Think Gully or Weld from canon – you genuinely look like a monster and ordinary humans might be nervous or quick to judge you.

>Case 53 x3 = you are no longer recognisable as human. Think Garotte or Mantellum from canon. People who see you will think you’re a monster and may run screaming from you.

>Having a kill order on you means you did something truly horrific or awful, or have repeatedly shown yourself to be too dangerous to be safely apprehended by the authorities. In short, you’ve killed people and as a result there's a fuckhueg bounty on you, which anyone - from heroes to sinister villains to rule-breaking vigilantes to every yahoo with a gun - can collect on, with no questions asked an no attempts to arrest them. They just stroll into Protectorate HQ, drop off your severed head, get given their money and walk out, even if they're a wanted felon.

oh hell

Job: Bodyguard Duty

I really hope my builds in line with the rules, expect a long and gay bio.

Uhh someone shrunk them in the laundry

I have no idea what my name is, or who I was before I came... here.

Brockton Bay.

It doesn't sound familiar, but nothing really does at the moment. I have gathered a couple things over some time.

For one, I didn't always look like... this. Probably.

While I was on the streets, I was picked up by a group of other 'homeless' miscreants. The only reason they kept me around was because I was useful to them. To their credit, they didn't kidnap me, I stayed of my own will. It's dreadful being alone and not knowing a thing about anything around you.

I didn't have a name to give, so they began calling me 'Casey'. I figured it a convenient placeholder, but I soon found out it was actually a jab at my... appearance. I'd like to change it sometime soon.

(holy shit it's just barely to long to post at once, someone neck me please)

Moving on, having powers like I do really affects others perception of you. Most are anxious and worried on sight (my face probably doesn't help, though), but at the bare minimum, everyone around is on guard. Wary of me. I truly don't like hurting people, but they wouldn't know that by looking at me, would they?

But even still, I don't think I would trade them, my powers. They make up nearly all I know about myself, and while that isn't saying much, it's still all I have... besides, it's either this or a part-timer, and I don't think I would make very many tips as a waiter. Kukuku...

And finally, I... like helping people. Keeping them safe.

We make our way from escorting people with a desire for protection and a chunk of change. I'm not sure how much money, I've never even seen let alone touched any of it. They just give me my share of food for the week and leave me to my devices. It's not very eventful between jobs, trust me.

Actually, it's pretty dull on the job too, now that I think about it. That's not to say we haven't lost some people. Clients, were suppose to call them. Sometimes were completely caught off guard and we have to bail out. I hardly know them , my 'co-workers' or the clients, but it's still terribly painful to leave someone behind...

I'm leaving soon, hopefully to a more permanent space to live, maybe meet some new faces who can stand to look at mine.

...Wish me luck, yeah?

(Geez, finally got that out of my system)

We're not in Brockton Bay. We're in Metropolis. Just FYI.

Just a reminder. The Think Tank is accepting Applications to join. We offer many benefits, and unlike most gangs we'll treat you right. If you wanna be a fun villain, doing everything from robbing banks to literally stealing candy from children, join us!

Note:Only Tinkers Need Apply.

Hey. Sorry I missed most of the last thread, I have a lot of stuff going on right now. Anything interesting happen?

ugg i knew i fucked something up

Thanks for telling me guy

I'll create a new character, because the Think Tank is cool.

So has any tinker ever even mentioned making a time machine in actual canon? Because I had some ideas.

Honestly though, "when this baby hits 88 miles an hour, you're gonna see some serious shit" is 100% something that has come out of Redline's mouth in the past. Probably more than once.

Time Travel is pretty restricted in canon. The closest you get is Greyboy, who traps people in time-bubbles.

We have a google drive to upload character and PRT docs, nothing else to mention.

I made a full gang for Wily, and a Hero, and two members for the 'new' SH9, since we lack canon characters.
Also an Empire member.

Can i get some feedback on this.

Cool. I still won't be able to really involve myself for a few days, things are busy. When I have a moment I'll see about getting a discord group so we can roll.

I think in the future. I'm gonna avoid fights with Lord Edge, The Mind Control dude, or Mister Munchkin Copycat

I ended up switching to a Khepri build because of Blindspot density.

What does this mean?

Well there have been concerns about Unlimited Shard Works's second trigger after someone made a character last thread.

That is Mister Munchkin.

Ryley there with Khepri is just mind control instant dropping everything.

And there is a guy that is just going for kills. Who I call Lord Edge

So have their been any other undersiders? As cool as it would be to be a one man gang, I'm not quite sure Redline is up to it.

Aren't you only using 12 power points there? You can still get more powers, or another second trigger.

>parkour and stone skin + your strength bonuses
I can only imagine this as the Hulk jumping around and destroying everything nearby.

Why Markmanship if you got no rifle? What's the plan there? Overall I like your character because no one uses Stone Skin. Its refreshing, and yeah I can see the Colossus part.

Post your character again, it was great.

None yet no.

I mean, you could probably fill the group with placeholder jobbers until more people join in

Second Trigger counts for the power limit

Malcolm has devoted his life to the hunting of those who abuse their powers. He himself being gifted with being able to shift his body (either partially or wholesale) into a biometallic form, granting him incredible strength and durability. He has recently aquired a PRT database and is about to choose his next quarry.

But he had 19 starting points, and ended up with 7. That's not a 15 difference.

Well, since you asked so nicely.

Sick ass super/muscle cars with machine guns and rocket engines still count as armored vehicles right? And "items you're carrying/people you're touching" totally includes cars you're driving right? Anyway, people need a getaway driver, I'm here to provide.

You should join The Think Tank!. Sure we already have Munitions with Armored Vehicles, but still!
=================
We're run into an issue in the RP.
What kind of personality do you all think the local PRT Director should have? There are all sorts. From Parahuman-haters like Piggot, to people who roll over for the Protectorate constantly. Hardliners about the law, people more open to accepting criminals being 'rebranded' into the protectorate. And even crazies like Tagg.

I didnt see an rifle option apart from the sniper and he is more of a AR or pistol kind of dude. Yeah parkour and stoneskin i saw as being either hilarious or more realistically not having his whole body transformed when doing his flips and shit.

Yeah i didnt know what powers to add. Maybe jump or something.

>Maybe jump or something.
I think jump can combine well, specially with stone skin. A living meteorite jumping into the action. And yeah you're right, it doesn't specify besides the sniper rifle, so you are good to go!

Infinite ammo for your guns would help too. But it all depends on the theme of your character if you are going for Colossus and Red Hood then you have done it

I seriously thought about it, but I think he would be best contrasted with some none tinker capes. Also, Redline would probably call Wily old man way too much for it to work. I think he'll end up being part of the Savages, vandals gang from last thread that I didn't add any other para humans too yet.

Maybe a Cauldron plant interested in keeping both sides sustained but also placated? So he lets the Protectorate do what they want for the most part and puts on a show of working with them, but actually subtly directs them away from making long term change? That's just an idea though and not a great one at that.

I keep meaning to get into the RP, but have been really busy. I've got four characters set up now, but I can't quite figure out which I want to be.

>Implying he wouldn't be amused at being called Old Man.

But fair enough.

Also I've been swapping between my various characters pretty constantly.

Ive modified it to remove get over here, add jump, repairs and MacGyver to make him abit more independent.

I dont know what i was thinkong with get over here anyway

Well, we'll see which I end up being most. I like them all as characters, but they present challenges in actually inserting them.

What time are the most people in the IRC? I've gotta get to sleep for tonight but tomorrow I'd like to get into it.

Is there an easy summary for this world online?

Who are slaughterhouse? What kind of level of threat are they?

What is the PRA and how do they enforce laws etc.

At a glance i kind of get the world but only the surface if that makes sense.

The Slaughterhouse 9 are basically this settings league of evil. They're comprised of the most dangerous and depraved superheroes in the world/America. Even other villains try to avoid them and they've survived for years with kill orders on all of them because they're so dangerous.

I don't know much about the PRT. Everything I know about Worm I learned through osmosis over the years on Veeky Forums and by quickly checking the wiki for more specific stuff.

No idea man, sorry.

Yes and no, because we're using an alternate version of it.

The Slaughterhouse are literal Murderhobos. A group of 9 parahumans who murder and butcher for fun. If, or rather WHEN, a member dies they go out lookiing for a new member. Every current member 'tests' the new member. They ALL have Kill Orders, and they wander the entirety of the U.S.A, on rare occasions branching out into Canada or Mexico.

The PRT is a group of Normals who exist to regulate Parahumans, they tend to command the Protectorate despite being separate organizations. They are a government organization.

I'm reading worm right now and after like 70 chapters the PRT finally showed up. This is their standard weapon.

>I’d watched a discovery channel feature on this stuff. The PRT, the Parahuman Response Team, was equipped with tinker-designed nonlethal weaponry to subdue supervillains. This containment foam was standard issue. It ejected as a liquid, then expanded into a sticky foam with a few handy properties. It was flexible and it was porous when fully expanded, for one thing, so you could breathe while contained within it, at least long enough for rescue teams with a dissolving agent to get to you. It was also impact resistant, so PRT squads could coat the ground with it to save falling individuals or keep heavy hitters from doing much damage.

>The way it expanded, you could coat all but the strongest villains in it, and it would disable them. Because of the way it denied you leverage and was resistant to impacts and tearing, even the likes of Lung would have trouble pulling themselves free. Topping it all off, it was resistant to high temperatures and a strong insulator, so it served to handle the pyrokinetics and those with electromagnetic powers.

So if you are touched by this goo you are pretty much out of the fight. They are powerless-people using equipment made by powered people, designed to stop other people with power, so kinda dangerous if you don't ambush them and they ambush you.

A humble clockmaker turned serial killer, he triggered after a gang of low-tier capes tried to rob his shop and he was forced to kill for the first time.

The voice in his head made him realize how undeserving some capes are of their power, and is slowly driving him to reach "perfection". For some reason, his passenger does not let him acquire a power fully, unless he opens a person's brain and is given a chance to tinker with their bodies.

He focuses on staying behind the scenes and striking when his target is alone and vulnerable. Will prefer to target new and weaker capes in the beginning, and proceed to target bigger game once he develops a nice power set.

Bewitch or Alice triggered during a holiday in the South, a cult of extremist Christians called "The Order of Christ" kidnapped her and planned to burn her for being a "witch" she managed to run away but she was stuck in the woods with crazy witch-hunters after her. Eventually they saw her and under the stress she triggered and slaughtered most of them. After being found malnourished in the woods with the bodies of dead Christians that were burnt and electrocuted, they took her to the hospital where she recovered and eventually she joined the Undersiders. After a year she was again hunted by the remnants of The Order of Christ, reliving her traumatic experience she triggered once again and with a deep hatred she slaughtered them and proceeded to go on a spree of killings of Christians.

Is unlimited shardworks 2nd triggered allowed? I posted a character last thread and i got the impression the build was too OP for a world capped at 15 power points?

Time travel, space travel, and nano shit are all heavily restricted in canon.

Whats lord edges build. Im trying to figure out how you would build "for kills" but cant see anything overwhelming apart from shardworks

It's allowed. Took it since it's essential for this homage build.

There's been talk of banning Trump powers altogether. Might be good actually.

Rose to infamy after he (?) tormented a school camp, driving several children insane and prompting others to turn on their friends. How the Slaughterhouse found him is a mystery as so far authorities have been unable to track him down or even build an approximate profile of him. Perhaps most terrifyingly is that several indicators point to Sandman being a child himself.

>bulk points left over and no idea what to do with them

Out of curiosity what are his thoughts about Huntsman and Graviton, the two SH9 members I designed?

Im imagining him as a little psycho. Evil like the joker but using psychological and dream manipulation like scarecrow.

He would hate graviton and idk if slaughterhouse members fight each other but hed definately want to torment someone young so he'd need to be either scared of her or otherwise scared of the repercussions. I built him to be very much a cowardly killer. Someone who is merciless but keeps himself far far removed from possible retribution. He'd attempt to buddy up with huntsman being scared of his ability and wanting to use him as a tool for violence, whether huntsman saw thru that or cared is probably the biggest factor of how theyd get along.

>slaughterhouse members fight each other
Not usually. They tend to focus on others, banding together to cause more torment as a whole.

Huntsman would probably see through it, and Graviton is his personal "project". Seeing as he caused her Trigger Event, and twisted her into being the psychotic killer she is. But he'd let it go so long as Sandman doesn't go too far.

Bumping. Gonna read through this in a sec.

I figured as much. Anyone getting to raudy has 8 serial murder hobos to shut them down.

How does control for the Suzerain power work? It says you only need eye contact (or to look at them for ST) in order to established control, but what then? Do you need to verbally tell them what to do or can you use the same method to give them orders?

Not sure if this is an ok idea or not buuuut

The idea being that this hyper ambitious madman believes he is the natural born ruler of the known world. He is technically an agent of Cauldron working undercover as a member of the Slaughterhouse 9. As a member of SH9 he is seeking to take over the leadership (i assume there is an actual leader?) If he isnt already.

He fights in a golden set of angelic armour he creates either from his magic portal or his infinite armoury. Likewise with a spear from the same source.

Resistance is futile! You will all be crushed under the flatfooted treads of the Truck Duck! The Duck that keeps on truckin'!

Yo, I'mma put the Tank in Think Tank.

Oh this is pretty much my first thread i didnt see him in the list of characters my bad.

The Mooks are a weird mix of these guys and Warboys.

Sorry i thought of them as independent of each other. Will fix.

If you want to RP, I'm afraid your character is over the 15 shard uses.

Fix it so we can bodyguard together.

Ah, is it? The only rules I saw for shard points were 15 max for powers (except for cauldron) including second triggers.

Is there a rule for power slot too?

I've only read the OP, so now I'm not sure

Hey, can we get a ruling on the "Humble Beginnings Cauldron Vial" exploit added to the rules? It seems like a ridiculous exploit compared to everything else, but so far it's legal.

You're right, the ruling from the last couple threads is perks other than second trigger don't count toward the fifteen shard points for powers.

no, he didn't, its literally -15 right there
his character is sound

Let's make another Slaughterhouse Nine member.

Name: Grey Boy
Scenario: Worthless Opponent (20C/10S)
Background: Villain
Age: Teenager
Civilian Identity: No Identity (22C/10S)
Costume: Armor - Made of Nanomachines (17C/10S)
Martial Arts (13C/10S)
Strategy (8C/10S)
Tactics (4C/10S)
Stealth (1C/10S)
Mechanics (-1C/10A)
Hacking (-2C/10S)
Parkour (-4C/10S)
Banter (-5C/10S)
Living Shard (-2C/10S)
Plot Convenience (-3C/10S)
Secret Lair (-5C/10S)
Voice In My Head (-5C/8S)
Noctis Cape (-5C/7S)
Second Trigger (-9C/4S)
Slaughterhouse 9 (-4C/7S)
Proficiency (-4C/5S)
Nanomachines, Second Trigger (-4C/-5S)
Other Gang: Slaughterhouse 9
Kill Order (2C/1S)

Originally going by Multitool, this budding young tinker had the unfortunate luck of drawing the Slaughterhouse 9's attention. One barrage of brutal tests later, and he became the sadistic Grey Boy - so named for the crawling tide of annihilation that responds to his every command. He appears to regard his time with the Nine as a chance to better develop his machinery, as he constantly deploys new configurations of his versatile machines against heroic opposition.

Power slots don't count for the 15 point max? If so, my apologies.

I would not think so, since vigilantes don't have to pay for theirs

By that logic Second Triggers wouldn't count because competent Cauldron capes don't have to pay for theirs.

Diana is a spoiled rich girl that surged when a group of villains took her hostage for ransom money. Defiant to the end, she cursed, kicked, bit, and spit at her captors every moment. In a fit of rage they beat her nearly to death. Refusing to die by the hands of "human garbage" in her eyes, she surged. Using her Stand "Tainted Love" she subdued her attackers and proceeded to return every blow they dealt to her with interest. After having her fill on revenge, she left using

She met Deo when she second surged during an incident at their high school. To protect their identities Deo stopped time and helped her escape without notice. She thinks he has teleportation powers but she stays close to him because she's curious on exactly how it works.

Her costume takes the form of a Victorian Aristocrat with a masquerade mask and her Stand Tainted Love takes the form of a female cabaret dancer with a similar motif but with a black and red leather bodice with a Heart shaped cleavage window with red lace creating a zig-zag pattern separating the heart into two jagged pieces.

Well in that case, I have 4 leftover shards to spend. Sweet. Gonna give it a look over to be as thematic as possible.

They don't have to pay for the second triggers in their vials, not for their own powers. Though it does bring up the balance issue of them taking humble beginnings in order to take one of their own cauldron vials.

There's literally no reason not to unless you really want a living Shard. The downsides of the Cauldron vial (can't take more than 20 point combos, can't take 25 point powers) are moot under this ruleset.

It's like how everyone takes Blind Spot - what else are you spending your Shard Points on?

Yeah, I can't help but think of that powergamer from the last thread who went

>'We all take our Cauldron vials since we have no powers because of humble beginnings giving us free second triggers. Then I exchange Follower 2 and 3's powers to make Super Follower 2. Then I swap bodies Super Follower 2 and get all their powers. Then I get buffed by kingmaker'

Stuck in his boring day in, day out office job, no family, no friends, no prospects, Havoc triggered from simply from his soul crushing, positively inhuman, depression. He still has that boring as fuck office job during the day, though he sleeps through most his shifts, but he runs with the Savages almost every single night. Vandalism, petty theft, indecent exposure, assaulting the elderly, Bedlam has done it all. Bedlam has risen through the gang and is now one of Vandal's top lieutenants, often running things at the front end of the gang.

Odd mix of powers. What are you planning to do with them?

Carson is considered the wildcard of the group. While he is Anti-Villian he is not considered part of the wards and his tactics can seem brash and cruel, especially to Tinker villians
Carson was the only child of a Construction Foreman in Downtown Seattle. His mother passed away when he was young and his father never remarried. His father loved his son and they would spend their free time working together repairing the cars, houses, etc for the community on their free time. However as Tinkers were on the rise for engineering and construction jobs, money was getting tight for the both of them.

His triggering was caused by an accident at his father's construction site. One of the workers had triggered and become a Tinker with specialties in Fortification. However the worker was lazy and used shoddy parts and craftsmanship, banking on his power to make it work. His father told the worker off that even with his "Tinky Winky shit" he didn't know a damn about engineering and showed the flaws in his work to the higher ups. The worker being humiliated left the company but not before sabotaging the building. As his father was tasked with fixing the worker's mistakes, the building started to collapse and crumble as the Tinker had booby trapped the building with several fault points that activated as soon as it was altered.

His grief manifested in the a sharpened mind and a Stand that can take steal of Tinkertech as a way of payback for them stealing his father and his job.

Also there is a goof, she should also have cosmetic appearance as well.

Because our oceanic blindspot metropolis needs more racers!

Bio:
>Founder of Castell Incorporated, Lanius Castell made quite a small fortune off of selling vehicles, ranging from generic consumer cars to military grade frames. Although he came up with many of the first ideas for vehicle design, it soon became apparent that he needed to hire on specialized people in the field if he wanted to stay competitive with other motor companies. Due to this, he became less involved in the actual car development and became quite a sales person and promoter with his barely-legal competitions which would pit his cars against any challengers with a large monetary award up for grabs. Although he was a skilled driver, he could never reach the levels of professional races so he rarely partook in the races himself.

>However that changed as soon as he awoke. Finding out that he was a tinker let him take his company's active role back by storm. He began by selling small, tinkertech accessories for his vehicles, but soon began to hire on other tinkers to help him with his production. Vehicles sold by Castell Inc nowadays have far more customization elements including numerous tinkertech accessories. Another discovery made by Lanius was his affinity for augmentation. Naturally, something like this couldn't be safe enough to sell to the general public, so he turned towards augmenting himself.

>Dubbing himself "Machine Head", he personally began to race in his own games and others which sprouted up around the country. Not only backed by his large organization, his augments allowed him to connect and control his vehicle far above what could be achieved with regular means. Crushing every race the came up, Machine Head soon rose to the top, but being this good meant that worthy challengers were few and far between.

>Recently, word has reached him about a new competitor that has been making a scene for himself in the city of Metropolis. Always eager to challenge new opponents, Machine Head began to make his way to that Oceanic Blindspot of a hellhole to face what might be his greatest challenge yet.
Man, that was too much writing but it was a fun to make a character that doesn't just shoot the first person he meets. Yet.
