>the most beautiful woman in rokugan still doesn't want either
>because shes gay
Maybe this time Shoju wont go full bloodsword and completely fuck his clan in the biggest betrayal anyone ever did in the history of rokugan.
Maybe this time Kisada wont do the same fucking thing like a complete piece of traitor filth trash
Still better off than Fu Leng.
>implying that's a fully accurate summary for either of them
Hows this then?
>Shoju
>becomes the pawn of an asshole god and his bigger asshole brother in their game of chess
>goes full bloodsword
>goes full retard
>commits the biggest betrayal in the history of the whole fucking game by trying to decapitate the imperial family (as if that would do anything considering they could whip out a hantei blood heir from the various cousins in the other three families)
>does this expecting every other clan (who hate the scorpion) to just lie down and take it
>gambles on the clan that hate the scorpion the most to help him just because its asshole daimyo hates the hantei as well (because Kisada thinks he should rule) - biggest misjudgment of character ever
>finally realizes how much he fucked up
>fucks his clan for years to come
Kisada
>hate everyone
>hate the emperor
>be strong
>think the strong should rule
>get tricked by his powermad corrupted adviser
>commits the second biggest betrayal in rokuegan by betraying his clans sacred duty to protect rokugan from the shadowlands
>nails his son to a fucking banner
>has his other son give his name (and soul) to an oni
>realize how badly he fucked up
>dies
>his retarded son goes on to become snekmen messiah, marty stu bullshit and then the fucking SUN
>Kisada himself becomes a god even after being a monstrous traitor filth shithead
That better?
No, but you definitely live up to your pic related.
Yeah sure, except nothing I said was wrong. Both got tricked and decided breaking sacred oaths was the answer to ambitions, and at least in Shoju's case, he was trying to save the Empire and was regarded as villain, while Kisada just wanted the throne out of selfishness, and everyone in his family came out heroes for it.
I really don't know whats worse - that Kisada and Yakamo got such wanking from the storyteam, or that there are retarded crab fanboys who are perfectly happy with it.
Shoju is good, but he did not become the pawn of Togashi, he only took his bullshit "advice" at face value (Why did he do that btw? With Togashi of all people?).
Kisada's biggest problem was that he went full Fudo with his fuck-high Earth Ring, and combo'd his bully-grade autism with a vastly over-inflated view of his own judgement. Dude was pretty much "everything what is wrong with the Crab" turned up to eleven.
Out of the two, Shoju got the better deal, because he was really just a victim of circumstances, and wouldn't have gone full retard if he had had some common sense (easily the rarest and most precious superpower in Rokugan). Kisada was just pure shit.
>(Why did he do that btw? With Togashi of all people?).
Because the story team kept reconning the Clan War events every damn arc, like Daidoji Uji's interest in foreign weapons suddenly being transformed into the harriers or how Hida Yakamo cheating in his duel later being changed to Togashi Satsu letting him win. Clan War story was the one thing Wick managed to not fuck up and the later story teams still managed to erode away at it.
Waifu Tier List (organized by clans that still exist)
Top Tier: Scorpion
High Tier: Unicorn, Crab
Meh Tier: Lion, Phoenix, Crane
Why Tier: Dragon
fight me
When did Mantis die?
Did someone put down Spider? If so, good.
When did Scorpion stop being dead?
It's hard to keep up with lore anymore.
They rebooted it to pre-clan war
>no minor clans in the tier list
Your list is shit.
>wanting to marry a minor clanner
found the pedo :^)
Top Tier: Lion (pic related)
High Tier: Dragon, Unicorn
Meh Tier: Crab, Phoenix
Why Tier: Crane, Scorpion
That explains a lot! Thank you.
This means I've gone from not understanding the setting at all to understanding it quite well again. How fortuitous.
...
I can remember an older /l5rg/ where an user requested ideas for replicating the nobushi in L5R. Does anyone know what ideas were proposed? I can faintly remember the Daidoji Iron Warrior being turned down for being too passive, and the Lion Elite Spearman being off-theme... there was also a kata flying around, but I can't remember which one.
There's not really anything in l5r that combines poison with spears.
>Kisada not going full retard
Also I bet you ten koku that Kachiko is romancing Hotaru entirely on clan orders.
Maybe Shoju just enjoys voyeuristically watching his wife fuck a Crane while also gathering key intel.
...
Best girl.
FFG knows what's good, we'll probably see her again soon.
News release tomorrow. Likely another story post. What are your hopes?
A Scorpion story following Bayushi Kachiko from where she left Hotaru. I kind of hope all the clan fictions are going to basically pass the baton from one character to another in the capitol as the mystery of Doji Satsume's death is investigated, basically.
Tomorrow's post is a crane preview, already confirmed. We'll probably see Hotaru in card form. Will be interesting to see a major named character finally.
Crane card spoilers being given out to various fansites.
I tried to link to the source for gift-giver in the previous post but it's a facebook link and the Veeky Forums spamnet hated me for it. Lookup Sake House Brawl if you care.

>Wearing gloves to not sully your pristine flesh with paints
I know this is an actual thing painters sometimes do irl probably for reasons beyond pure aesthetics but I find it weirdly hilarious here.
I just want a new less-broken but broken nonetheless version of Chags in the future
Just want the game to come out already so I can shitpost about your favorite faction being weak.
Where are the stories?
Noble goal, user,
So I have some people interested in a L5R game, only one is familiar with the setting. I was considering a minor clan only magistrate game but I'm not sire where to set it. I'm considering just before the coup leading into the clan war, just before the day of thunder when minor clans were given more consideration, or a second city game. The problem is I want my players to have options but what time the game takes place dictates what minor clans exist. I'm trying to avoid a mono mantis party but it's hard when they're a collection of minor clans.
Or I toss the idea and run topaz championship.
>Or I toss the idea and run topaz championship.
Don't be boring, do something different. Your MC magistrate game sounds interesting though it might be best for people who don't know the setting super well to stick to MC characters.
GC rather. There's more support for them and more material to read. I've got some mileage out of the Second City boxed set in my game set in an alternate future after the Destroyer War, but you have to be willing to dedicate to the Colonies in game for that.
Do both: the magistrates are overseeing the Championship, so while the kids are running around trying to get the prize the PCs can get tangled in the sort of shenanigans that may occur around Tsuma (or at the events themselves).
Not a bad idea to have one or two PCs being side-judges to the competition, either.
What's wrong with the major clans?
Nothing really, I thought it would be interesting. Major clans carry a lot of baggage and grudges a newer player might not want or understand was my main concern. That said, I've seen some wildly out of character stuff ftom all angles so I may just toss the idea.
Really I'm tired of running of Hida Huge, Matsu Mad, and Bayushi Starscream.
Would running the party as being all from a single clan be too boring?
Is there an optimal way to go about spending exp for progression? Insight is the main goal, right?
>gay hotaru
>meme flavor text on a slap-happy girl
what the fuck?
Every skill at 1 except the skills you need higher for mastery, and Rings.
>Really I'm tired of running of Hida Huge, Matsu Mad, and Bayushi Starscream.
Help them get some of the nuance of the clans and it'll be alright.
...
Campaign or official?
>Out of the two, Shoju got the better deal
If you call sacrificing himself to Toturi FUCK I hate Toturi in a moment of clarity, becoming reviled as much as Fu Leng, and then being raised up as a zombie by Kachiko's shithead NEET brother, then no, he didn't get the better deal. His afterlife was at least better then it could've been though.
As opposed to Kisada who became a god through the power of crab fanboys, while his Son became the Sun.
There is nothing more fucked up in L5R then the bullshit wank Kisada and Yakamo got, considering they really should have been just as reviled as Shoju was, and Yakamo (by his character alone) should have died dishonored in a ditch for all of his bullshit
At least he got to rest comparatively in peace. Zombie doesn't count, that's just his body being yoinked. Kisada never got that final rest for a long fucking time.
>Kisada never got that final rest for a long fucking time.
Kisada doesn't rest. Hes the god of stubborn perseverance for a reason.
...
...
I meant storytelling-wise, he got the better deal. His story was at least nominally good: his stupidity made sense in a distantly understandable way, and he suffered severe consequences that felt "earned".
Kisada's story, on the other hand, was just pure trainwreck in every aspect. Hell, I don't even know why the Crab fanboys like him.
>Hell, I don't even know why the Crab fanboys like him
I used to be on the old AEG forums back during the four winds and later periods.
Crab Fanboys are in love with the super burly manly aspect of the crab, and the "take no shit" attitude of their clan. It literally means nothing to them whatever the crab do because as far as they are concerned, every other clan deserves it.
zombies, ogres, and oni sack a crane city, being led by a crab general? fuck those prissy crane faggots.
Everytime the Crab act like assholes, crab fanboys love it as some big middle finger to every aspect of L5R they hate - notably the hoity-toity honor hypocrisy and stuck up two faced political backstabbing. They see the Crab as the only real honorable clan in L5R for being completely honest and giving absolutely no fucks about complicated cultural nuances.
Crab is often the first clan of players who don't want to understand or simply don't care about the complicated\nuanced social aspects of the setting, and their fatalistic "woe is me for i am the only one to do the worst job in all the empire" is seen as the ultimate heroism.
It just doesn't register to them just how monumental a betrayal it was to ally with the shadowlands simply for revenge on an ungrateful rokugan, and so Kisada could become Emperor. It would be like Batman deciding to ally with the Joker just to get back at all the rick pricks of Gotham who think Batman is just another villain for being a vigilante.
>I meant storytelling-wise
Of that I agree.
>the "take no shit" attitude of their clan
But... the Crab historically takes all the shit right into the face every time they can. If something is going down in Rokugan, you can bet your ass the Crab is taking some random farmland somewhere or making demands like the end times would be coming, while crying "muh wall" and "muh duty". Then have a bitchfit when they don't get what they want and/or they successfully waste whatever they eventually get.
I can't remember a SINGLE story where something bad happened with the Crab and they were, like, "eh, we'll manage" and just rolled with the situation.
So I guess the point is that Crab fanboys are completely oblivious/ignorant? I mean, I can see where this is going, but still...
Rolled 6, 1, 4, 9, 5, 3, 7, 6 = 41 (8d10)
>fight me
Sure
>So I guess the point is that Crab fanboys are completely oblivious/ignorant? I mean, I can see where this is going, but still...
Thats basically true of any single clan fanboy with tunnel vision. If all you ever read is the clanbook for your favorite clan, you only see rokugan through the eyes of that clan.
I speak as a long time Crane Fanboy who only really came out of it when I decided to introduce a whole new crop of people into my favorite rpg and I had to give them an unbiased overview of ever clan and setting.
A lot of my issue with old L5R is the blatant wank by the storyteam for their favorite aspects of the setting, and shafting everything else.
As much as I might say mean things about Kisada, Shoju, Toturi, those pale as nothing compared to my absolute hatred for bundling some of the coolest minor clans into the mantis simply for convenience.
I really hope that they keep the Mantis as a Minor Clan this time around. Just keep them as the leader of the MCA.
What part of amoral pirate legion implies that Mantis are good leaders?
I like the Crab reasonably well but they did do some pretty shitty stuff. Normally Veeky Forumsis a Crab hugbox though. Did most of them wander away after the ffg sale or something? I haven't been in too many generals the last couple years to notice some sea change.
At least my main favorite clans don't seem any more hated than usual. And look to have some interesting lcg mechanics coming.
Clan loyalties are slowly dying as the new game approaches. There's no reason to be a fanboy anymore.
>At least my main favorite clans don't seem any more hated than usual
Who are your favorites?
Mine stopped existing after 1st Edition because of storyteam bullshit (if they ever really existed at all)
Crane, Scorpion, Mantis. Who are all in their own way divisive but no more than usual. Though I like all the clans reasonably well except Dragon who I kind of have bad rpg experiences with players of. So nothing inherently against them so much as associative distaste.
I don't know, story rewards still are going to exist so people might favor certain clans in tournaments still. Casual play absolutely is going to be way more open though which I find exciting
People will inevitably care more about the prestige of winning an event and the prizes that come with it. The people who actually win will be mercenary players, or players who are loyal to their faction but their faction just happens to be OP at the moment.
So the same as it ever was then.
So spreading your skills out is actually viable? That's pretty cool.
Only as a means of fast Insight progression.
Sorta. There's a lot of skills that it's a good idea to have at least one point in, you know, just in case. Stealth, investigation, sincerity, slight of hand, games, craft, artisan, lores, etc..
Which schools are the strongest?
>their fatalistic "woe is me for i am the only one to do the worst job in all the empire" is seen as the ultimate heroism.
Well it is.
Are there catgirls in Rokugan?
Matsu Berserker and Daidoji Iron Warrior are both really strong. Daidoji gets bonus wound levels, and Matsu gets a lot of damage.
I wouldn't worry about using the strongest school though. You should pick the clan and school that appeals to you most.
Fuck back off to /pfg/
You need a HIDA tier above any actual tier. They're the canon best wives.
Ain't no one got the time to to categorize that shit by family.
no need to, just add Hida above everything and pretend anything below them matters.
Nice try, Kisada.
Akodo Bushi and Daidoji Iron Warrior are the strongest, while the Ikoma Lion's Shadow is considered the "best".
Isawa Shugenja, Toku Bushi, and Utaku Battle Maiden are the next tier, with the Bayushi Bushi, the Matsu Berserker, the Tsuruchi Archer, and the Yasuki Courtier getting honorable mentioning.
Most of the Tier 2 Schools get massively stronger the more experienced the player is with the game.
Don't listen to this idiot
If we're talking about bushi schools, the top 5 are Daidoji Iron Warrior, Hida Bushi, Akodo Bushi, Matsu Berserker, and Toku Bushi (in no partciular order).
Toku Bushi is arguably the strongest in a vacuum. The others require certain setup (Daidoji only get turbo strong if you can manage to get high honor)
>Hida Bushi
It is a rookie-friendly School, but other than that and how much hype it gets, it really is pretty mediocre. Unless you go Berserker, but that has its own difficulties.
>Matsu Berserker
As a single-focus School with trap premise (no kids, it isn't a full-blown assault school, it is a glass cannon hit-and-run school), I wouldn't rank it on the same level, than, say, the Akodo Bushi that is just great in every field.
>Toku Bushi
As said, the Toku Bushi is only good in a vacuum.
>As (You) said, the Toku Bushi is only good in a vacuum.
t. Assblasted, illiterate kakita-poster.
In fact your whole post is wrong because all of those schools are beginner friendly.
Disgusting.
Crab wives will only slam you down to fuck when they want it, and go off for a day of yelling at the servants to do shit.
Scorpion wives are dutiful in all things, from greeting you with morning blowjobs to subconsciously keeping tabs on your opponents whenever they're in the city. They're also often the most beautiful, mask or no mask.
2 Iron Warriors guarding each other.
>In fact your whole post is wrong because all of those schools are beginner friendly.
Being a Matsu Berserker as a beginner is the best way to die in the very first skirmish.
You're just assuming because they get a small movement buff in full attack at rank 1 that anyone who plays them will default to full attack?
Has anyone tried mono-clan campaigns? I'm thinking of running one but I could use some opinions.
Quite the other way around. As a beginner, it is hard to remember that shit like Full Attack Stance even exists, and thus pretty much ruin the whole point of the School. You also need to have a good feel of the movement rules and use Full Attack to approach, then Free Move to fall back (you do have Water 3, right?), and not eat the enemy retaliation.
As long as everyone involved likes the clan in question, it's great. Unless they're the type who pitches a fit about other people picking the same school as them (because they have to be unique, obviously).
>You also need to have a good feel of the movement rules and use Full Attack to approach, then Free Move to fall back (you do have Water 3, right?)
you can't move away from your target while in full attack, retard.
They work great. Currently playing in an all-pony game set during the journey back to Rokugan, just because you're all one clan doesn't mean everyone gets on; there's a shitton of drama and mystery that every family likes to keep 'in house.'
drafts.fantasyflightgames.com
New Crane cards shown.
If you want to attack in a turn, then you can only move once anyway (that should be your approaching move), and that's why I said you have to know where your are moving and plan for the future.
Holy shit that province effect.
It seems likely to me that Crane decks are going to at least threaten to steal wins through Honor count, if not actually go all the way into full Honor tanking.
It's an edit moron.
The actual card text reads more like a mafia shakedown if I remember right. "Let me try putting that another way..." or something
That would be pretty cool actually but it won't happen because they don't want to anger anyone
In the storytime thread, you can read up on my group that started technically as an all-Crane band. It can be done and even adds a certain layer of loyalty to the group dynamic.
