>30k TACTICA & TIPS What to include in a HH list, how to format it, what makes each legion special (crunch), tactics, Tutorials for Heresy-era minis and more pastebin.com/Tm2P4QLp
I have executed my belated thread. I shall transplant the summary and edition here.
Rolled 13 (1d26)
Macro-scale Primarch deathstars edition. Fortifying This Position subedition
Emperor's Children decided not to go full frontal, rare STC printouts were unveiled and Imperial Army needs Marine supervision for some reason. Sadly Knight Houses killed the Baneblade star and Magnus has artificer rubble. The Lacarymaerta got bored of not having robot dinosaurs and Mortarion left his mask at home. Bread school is out until better facilities are available. All this and more in the previous thread →
Cameron Butler
Second for the NO ONE CARES ABOUT FIRST OR SECOND, STOP DOING THIS.
This thread will probably be the one that covers the FW weekender, when we find out about HH's transition to 8th. I'm apprehensive about it, but fine, I can deal with rules changes. Please just don't change the scale of our marines. Let us keep our marinelets.
Nathan Phillips
I'm sure we will. Manlets are winlets, after all, and from the looks of it Primarines will be sold in units of five (probably for the same price as the more expensive terminator kits or Custodes, I'm thinking).
One member in a squad can throw a grenade instead of shooting any other weapon. Unlike in 7th, I think it makes sense to extend that to melee because shooting pistols in melee is now a thing.
Ryder Rodriguez
Here's to hoping that Custodes will be WS2+ BS2+ like the heroes they are.
Oliver Lee
I'm inclined to agree, but what of Hesperax and the Phoenix Lords and other 1337 characters?
It could be tricky to balance it all out, though I'm eager for Lelith's and Jain Zar's profiles to be released - spess elf eyecandy that rip most things apart with ease and are each other's match.
Cooper Johnson
Yeah, those bolt pistols and a single melta-bomb are really gonna do a number on a tank.
Robert Gonzalez
Proper HH-era magnus mini out finally.
He's a big guy
Brandon Gray
>Magnus has artificer rubble Kek >Mortarion left his mask at home. Bread school is out until better facilities are available. Unkek. Thanks for the summary, user Brother! I want a cozy fortress. Ring upon ring of crenellated ramparts, AA guns, fake walls, razor fields, tank traps that are not gay, and phosphex moats. And at the very center, a log cabin with a bed, a blanket and a fireplace. That's a proppa Iron Warrior forest cabin.
Michael Walker
>Mortarion left his mask at home Was it extremely painful?
Jaxon Martinez
is it just me or does that Custodian look Christmas-themed?
Joshua Clark
IVth U
Nolan Scott
The new primadonna captain also has 2+/2+, so it's clearly not limited to particularly fighty characters.
Carson Hughes
>This thread will probably be the one that covers the FW weekender, when we find out about HH's transition to 8th As if. Probably next semester, if we're lucky. Epic minis are cute.
Kevin Young
Did you just sass one of the Emperor's Companions?
Nathan Hill
You say it like it's a bad thing
Blake King
Personally I rather like fortifying, but I've literally never seen anyone use a Fortification in a game. No idea why, they seem cool and you can convert to your heart's content. Any of them any good? I feel like giving the pet fleshbags something to hide behind/under/inside would improve morale and also be fun.
Michael King
>Gravis is +1T instead of regular artificer Gotta keep it cool, he's moving at only 5" a turn after all, it's pretty much giant MkIII. Though it cleverly protects him from power fists wounding him on a 2+ >Mastercrafter means double wounds and he's got more wounds than Angron >:U
Robert Stewart
Obviously the Primarchs will be boosted to hell and back.
Adrian Lee
My gods... I don't mind story progression but the new 40k fluff is awfully juvenile, in keeping with The Gathering Storm. >Blood Angels and successors getting whittled down by the Tyranids >Baal's moons fall, last stand on Baal Prime >Great rift occurs >It doesn't cut them off from the rest of the galaxy - instead, it spits out Guilliman's fleet >Guilliman's crusade saves the defenders on Baal Prime >Ka'Bhanda came out of the rift too (without anyone noticing) and cleansed one of Baal's moons of Tyranids
I'll definitely be staying away from 40k and staying in our little world of slightly more mature writing. Pity, because I was an Eldar player back during 2nd & 3rd editions. Never thought I'd really be into marines but hey, good writing can do that.
Chase Myers
Yeah, they're good. Void shield generators are great for heavy support squads. If you're a traitor, Sacrificial Offering is great and requires one (just pick a fluffy one, it doesn't really matter which).
Matthew Moore
Yey, Void Shields look fun, especially if modelled with one of those plasma globes as the generator. Could even have some sliding contacts so it starts with threeish arcs, then two, then one, then a random pattern as the shields drop.
Nicholas Morris
Srry to post the image here, user, but I couldn't believe it was this tier of shit until I read it. Lewdfiction is better than this shit. I want FW to hunt the snake that is 8E, remove the poison and put the usable parts of that accursed system to 30k. It is the Shitatrix maledictum that separates our setting from nu40k. Children of the Angel, you must be ever vigilant.
Brayden Powell
keep 40k shitposting to 40k shitposting containment pls
Michael Bailey
Yknow what's cool? Blackshields. They're cool. What else is cool? Creativity. I'd like to see some people's ideas. Be it fluff for your army, Wrought by War options you'd like to see, or unique wargear and units, post it here!
Juan Barnes
the more outlandish blackshields being in any way prevalent in 30k are the equivalent of having a historic game about william of normandy conquering england and suddenly aztec conquistadors invade ireland, they should just be a way to bring a generic legion list with generic LA-less bonuses
Sebastian Richardson
It's difficult to find a place for them, isn't it? I mean, you can take most legions and play them on either side. People already do that, often under alternative color schemes but still using the legion rules. What do you gain by using the Blackshield rules and fluff?
Oliver Allen
Is it just me or is the painting style in FW a lot different than the Eavy Metal stuff on the GW?
Noah Parker
>unironically comparing HH to a historic wargame
Austin Phillips
>the more outlandish blackshields being in any way prevalent in 30k are the equivalent of having a historic game about william of normandy conquering england and suddenly aztec conquistadors invade ireland, CHILD PLEASE Whoever told you 30k was historical reenactment only was lying to you. It's a game. The book even tells you you can play traitor Ferrus vs loyal Curze.
Jason Ross

Austin Bennett
FW has many of the same people painting their display stuff iirc, but like to make use of their specialist paints. They also tend to go for a grittier and slightly more "realistic" style, rather than bright edge highlights. Kinda similar to the older Eavy Metal stuff in a way.
Cooper Johnson
>traitor Ferrus vs loyal Curze
Charles Smith
>the more outlandish blackshields being in any way prevalent in 30k are the equivalent of having a historic game about william of normandy conquering england and suddenly aztec conquistadors invade ireland >implying that isn't more rad than DG running The Reaping with Ordo Reductor allies
Ethan Hall
FW used to use more military modeling techniques, but their recent showcase models have been a lot more... not sure what to call the style, but it's a lot more high-contrast, with simulated highlights and shadows like you see from the more "artsy" commission painters.
Chase Murphy
I like how the Iron Warriors are the go-to loyalists for FW :^)
Xavier Long
its not the historical aspect, its the 'these are living thunderwarriors that were so badass they escaped the emperors purges and dont afraid of anything' made of badly-painted BoP wearing whose paint job is nurgle pissed on them, which to me is a bit like muh native americans was conquerors n shieet who couldve been great idiocy
Christopher Miller
...
Jaxon Fisher
>'these are living thunderwarriors that were so badass they escaped the emperors purges and dont afraid of anything' that's just shit fluff imo, nothing really to do with the idea of blackshields. if your warlord is a thunder warrior using chimerae rules or like pic related then I can deal with that, but a whole army of snowflakes can die in a hole.
Christopher Nguyen
>Traitor Raven Guard
Colton Bailey
thats all i ever see for blackshields, its either marysue surviving thunderwarriors (thunderwarriors in mk3 with awful paint /hhg/ guy gets an honourable mention) or lost legions 'but in addition to my blackshield bonuses i also get a homebrew LA that gives me +1 to hit with volkite and also get totally-not-terror-squads-as-compulsory-troops as a legion unique because im totally a proper legion'. Basically, blackshields invite mary sues
Lincoln Bennett
That'd be Corax' raptor monstrosities. Not my first pick for "snowflakes".
Dylan Hill
I just like to use them to run remnants of multiple legions bonded together by a mutual desire to kick traitor ass, take names and be space pirates. Unique good CC troops and Wrought by War are just a plus.
Xavier Bell
OC Lost Legions invite Mary Sues.
Jacob Scott
it be nice if people like you were more common than 'how does i justify +1s/t?'. Why do you prefer blackshields to Shattered Legions, which i think is a brety gud way of doing multi-legion forces
Oliver Hernandez
What are you guys spoilering for?
Christopher Hernandez
im drunk and was posting an unpopular opinion about how i dont like [thing]
Justin Young
How would (You) justify +1S/+1T chymeriae? No Thunder Warriors or Raptors, another thing. Primaris marines wearing Graviton armour?
Blake Adams
eh, I just like mixed forces and it doesn't have the glaring "nothing is denial" downside of SL. and let's be honest Shattered Legions only really works for two or three legions, any more and if your warlord dies you are fucked. they don't exactly seem like the "recruiting all comers" type I like to use, eh?
extreme rates of cybernetic augmentation, somewhat warp-touched marines or just veteran astartes who will come down on you like a ton of bricks, but have a knack for taking things slow and steady.
Adam Hill
...
Luke Gray
>+1S/+1T chymeriae? Indigenous forces of a non-compliant empire (non-terran techno-barbarians), fabulous bill's early experimental victims/prisoners of war, Iron Hands Cyberzombies, some mad magos's servitor army, non-WB possessed marines
Ethan Myers
What single-sentence warning to the Emperor could change the entire history?
Alexander Martin
Kill Primarchs on sight Alternatively Make Sanguinius Warmaster
Joseph Adams
"Hey, maybe treat your sons more like human beings?"
Josiah Green
But they aren't human
Nicholas Martinez
Put down Erebus.
John Gutierrez
I want to be attached to her regiment ;^)
Liam Nguyen
"Without proper guidance about the Warp, the Primarchs will destroy the Imperium"
You can't base the Imperium on science and reason while simultaneously refusing to discuss this incredibly dangerous and important subject with the men charged with protecting and expanding your empire. Hell, if Lorgar and the Word Bearers had been informed about the Warp ahead of time while they were still staunch supporters of the Emperor, they probably would've had a blast going to town on worlds for any trace of warp-based religions.
But, as we've known for a long time, for all of the Emperor's intelligence, he has very little in the way of social skills or common sense.
Ian Hughes
But they deserve treatment as such all the same.
Robert Robinson
Dog genes lol
Angel Edwards
You know what would be a cool team up? Iron Warriors, Blood Angels, and Alpha Legion.
Jack Torres
Updated list rating? I know it's still very low on points but that's all I can play with now. Hoping to start a narrative and fluff them up while I continue to collect stuff. If anything I want to know if it's a good chassis to build off of.
Imperial fist 1500
Hq >centurion bolter, melta bombs, power axe, arty armor
Heavy support >vindicators x2 laser destroyer array
Benjamin Phillips
Care to explain? I just see the three complementary areas of shooty, close-range stabby, and sneaky generalists. You could do the same with IH, yiffs and RG, or DG, WE and NL
Charles James
The only combo is IF and IWs
William Ortiz
>Bitterbois being good for anything other then dying in a ditch whilst the glorious VII plant a flag on top of the planetary capital building
Jason Powell
Interesting proposition If Terra had been defended by Iron Warriors, Imperial Fists and Alpha Legion, the Emperor wouldn't have died. >Be Horus >Sol defended by Fleet IV-VII, which has as much ships by itself as your traitors, because Phall never happened. >Because both the IWs and the ALs remained loyal, Kyr never had to fight Dynat, and they're both at Terra. Paramar never benefitted the traitor effort. Kyr still curses though. >Everything that has a roof has a Quad gun on it, anything that isn't a building is either tank traps or razor wire >Alpharius never defends the Spaceport, reinforcements arrive unhindered >The reinforcements are Alpharius >Horus lowers the anti-teleport shields >"We don't give a fuck, keep trying to get in", exclaim the siege brothers, despite their termies being as teleporty as Horus'. >An Alpharius dies defending the Gate of Eternity and its overrun. Horus is in >That wasn't Alpharius >The inside of the Gate is a thousand lascannons aiming inwards >That wasn't Terra, it was Venus painted blue, green and gold.
Joseph Campbell
What else could possibly happen?
Wyatt Morgan
>Horus lowers his teleport to let the Emperor lead the final assault >Perty sends a bundle of nukes held together by his legionaries.
Alexander Clark
If Terra was held by anyone else other than the Fist, Big E would have died.
Cameron Martin
The Emperor is dead anyway.
Joseph Walker
Fucking kek Thing is, if you remove the IWs from the attacking side, the IF defenses are pretty much undefeatable. So, add them to the loyal side and Horus has no chance at all.
Ryder Sanders
>Let us keep our marinelets. Hopefully not. The marine sculpts are the only reason I went Mechanicum instead. Your choice is weirdly skinny resin lanklets or bizzare slavsquatting plastics. They could use a resculpt.
Asher Scott
I never got why the Emperor didn't unironically do this. In MoM he seems too pragmatic to actually desire honorabru combatu.
Carter Bennett
Because the gods would just snuff out whatever trap you sent, the Emperor himself couldnt stop them from fucking up his troops and scattering everything across the ship.
Jackson Jenkins
>a) give it a Gellar shield or something >b) the Emperor could use his psykery to protect it
Jason Barnes
What about his Custodians still scattering even though he's the one directing the Astronomicon? Emps doesn't scatter, but apparently his squad does.
Gabriel Russell
Hey anybody got the rules on a basic Custodes squad? I want to use them as a bodyguard for my Primarch but I'm not sure what's the best load out for them
Kayden Clark
>b) the Emperor could use his psykery to protect it
Didnt stop the gods from scattering everything across the Vengeful Spirit, even if the Emperor himself built, blessed and gave the bomb a kiss good bye the chaos gods would still rub it across Slaanesh's slutty face and poop it back out in whatever corner of hell they wanted.
Jason Martinez
Go ask the 40k gen-
Just kidding. The link to Inferno's in the top, all the Custodes rules are there. What Primarch? Hetaeron are generally the best, but termies may be nice as a variable shooty/stabby meatshield
Jack Cruz
Someone asked earlier about the /hhg/ discord link discord.gg/r7YzV3
Kayden Reyes
Thanks!
It's Horus. I'm building a thematic Luna Wolves army alongside my buddy who's building an apocalyptic Ork army so we can do the Ullanor campaign
Isaiah Jackson
Oh, cool. I'd be cautious though, you can easily spend upwards of 600 points on just a handful of Custodes, and as you've already got a Primarchstar going (I assume) you're looking at a potential third of your points contained in a spartan tank.
Just food for thought, a trio of laser destroyers, a Sicarian, and a good ol' contemptor-Mortis backing up whatever reavers/veterans/Terminators you want will make for a solid fluffy list capable of dealing with a lot of stuff
Samuel Lewis
I'm looking to do something with my BaC terminator captain. Is there a nice all around set-up for a Terminator Praetor that I should aim for? I don't mind doing a bit of converting if necessary.
Blake Barnes
W8 til 8th m8.
Kevin Cook
It's a good start, but a lot of people question Laser Destroyer Vindicators - they disappoint so often. I'm not sure why; they seem fine on paper. I suppose Laser Destroyer Rapiers are often more efficient.
Fluffwise, Imperial Fists like Terminators a lot and they are very good, at least in the outgoing edition. Consider some. I'd consider giving the veterans some plasma or melta... but you don't have to; we don't know what'll happen to those weapons in 8th ed. Combi-melta vets are very popular right now, but they'll be so much better in 8th ed. that they should cost way too much to equip your whole squad with them.
And maybe you'll want Breachers as troops, if they get cheaper in 8th and/or you run Stone Gauntlet someday. Right now they work better in squads of 10.
Matthew Hill
>>An Alpharius dies defending the Gate of Eternity and its overrun. Horus is in >>That wasn't Alpharius >>The inside of the Gate is a thousand lascannons aiming inwards >>That wasn't Terra, it was Venus painted blue, green and gold. Well played.
Alan Bligh kept me in Warhammer. No matter how poorly written other things were, there was always Bligh. No matter how cynical I got, there was Bligh. He kept me in this community. I have not been this devastated in a long time.
Don't fuck this up, other writers. Don't tarnish his memory.
Samuel Cooper
>chaos scum Bligh >on Emperor's side
daemons tore his soul apart
