As promised in the last thread, here's a small sampling of girls who almost made it into >, but for whatever reason didn't.

Admittedly, the most common reason is my incredibly autistic standards for "visual distinctiveness" and insistence on making all the backgrounds feel very "day-to-day" (i.e. no "unbelievably" extraordinary individuals) making it difficult to come up with unique personalities for many without intruding in any way upon niches already taken in one way or another by the existing girls, background or character-wise.

On the one hand, it is appreciable that you put that much thought into picking the camwhores for your CYOA, especially compared to other waifu choosers (and let's not lie to ourselves, that's what this is). On the other hand, I got to agree with , your autism has gone too far. Many of those girls are perfectly fine. You are making a CYOA people are going to at best masturbate to and then forget about and much more likely ignore, not casting roles for the next big TV show.

Well, it's its own thing. I guess most of those wouldn't make it past Alice user's psychotic standards due to either being too unusual (world class snipers, Olypmic athletes, crazy backgrounds, etc.) or too pretty, but we do know that he's psychotic so at least that's firmly established.

How do you guys prefer waifus/husbandos in cyoas? with their personality clearly defined by the author, only their archetype so you can fill in the rest (like tsundere or yandere) or a mix of both?

Nothing fancy, just moving to the woods and summoning a bunch of dryads to live the good life with.

If that wasn't an option though (and as I'm assuming society has reverted to more of a city state kind of thing given communications are probably down) I'd make a deal with a suitably accommodating ruler, to serve as a healer and makeshift hospital for their city (which helps keep me young and powerful anyway) in return for making a forested clearing in the middle of their lands (giving me a place to dwell with my companions and guards).

I prefer all companion options to be clearly defined.

Honestly, I feel like most of those are either too out there to be a good fit for the existing 14 girls, who had a very strong theme of "feeling like people you might realistically encounter", or feel too similar to one of them already. I can't speak for anyone else but I found the main appeal of > to be how *grounded* most of them felt, which this doesn't do for me. It feels like those could've easily been regular anime waifus with pictures picked from /s/ instead of /a/.

I guess Eloise, Miko, and Zoe feel like they might've made it. The rest, if I'd wanted someone like I'd just pick an anime girl.

But that's just my opinion.

Personally I prefer when they are somewhat of a blank state, but with one or two details fleshed out.

Throwing my lot with these guys regarding the girls' believability. No offense, but I think you might've gone too far with trying to use the pictures as an indicator of each girl's "unique personality". In the end, rather than feeling like real people, each one feels like a caricature of someone who's insanely good at whatever habit it is they're shown to be engaging at. The fact that they're all said to be world class practitioners also makes them feel less relatable. puts it well with "if I'd wanted someone like [that] I'd just pick n anime girl."

What's the point of giving them 3D pictures when they all sound like they came out of an anime? A genius slutty ex-nun? A world-class sniper (who just so happens to look like a cutsey girl whom I can assure you hasn't been on the same continent as a battlefield a day in her life)? An "Israelian" (the term is Israeli) secret agent? It's not like we're exactly lacking for waifus.

I prefer a description but it can be a short written section, a list of pros/con (like Fulcrum) or an in character speech from them, so long as I get a glimpse of personality.

From what it sounds like a lot of people seem to associate the "groundedness" with the pictures of real girls. Which I do agree are complimentary qualities. I suppose if you ignore it just kinda feels like you switched the anime pics from a bog standard CYOA with some camwhores, so it loses a lot of uniqueness+loses points from those anons who automatically prefer 2D.
