How do i make a low fantasy setting interesting

im new to DMing and i want to run a low magic, low fantasy setting and i was hoping you guys would have some pointers

>medieval level tech
>light alchemy is practised but only as far as raising a stat by a few points temporarily, curing diseases, and poisons for weapons
>magic and wizards are very rare and are ostracized by the average person
>people are extremely superstitious and religious.
>fantasy races exist and live largely in their own "ethno states"

i there anything else i can do to improve this and make it better
>pic unrelated

What system?

They way in which you limit magic need not be so sweeping. Like, if casted spells are not a thing, only magical items and rarely spell trigger items, it can keep a low fantasy feel while letting you still magic stuff away when needed.
It might be fun to portray fantasy beasts in a less fantastic light, like those dog sized chimeric dragons in old paintings.

So the Witcher if the story followed the normies in the world?

pathfinder

>inb4 memes
i've been using the system for years and its what im the most familiar and comfortable with even if it is a bit flawed

i suppose, i've actually never played the witcher or read the books

this is good advice

Read some Robert E. Howard

>Artist keeps redrawing this to deflect the gay porn of it
>it never works

There is nothing that hasn't been done before, and few things the type of people who come to TG at least pretend to be sick to death of.

Make it a dark age. Things used to be better, but something huge happened. Something big and magical, which why every hates mages. Something that ended empires, which is why everything is such shit now and low tech. Something that had 'fallout', which is why there are monsters every god damn were. Maybe it was a war, the monsters are basically fantasy bio weapons, and the thing that ended it was the magical version of a god damn nuke going off and killing everyone. Not a rpg 1000 damage lulz 'that sucked but it was years ago' nuke. A real 'And I am become death' nuke that the world is barely starting to heal from and the skeleton filled ruins of this broken world it all but ended are everywhere.

It could also be interesting up to a point to have realistic weapons and armor. Like the average soldier has access to chain mail, "royal guard" tier units have breast plate, and people like the characters who go out and adventure and do insane stuff of legends shit can learn the dorfs have something called 'platemail' they might be able to afford one day.

You can also touch on the notes of 'abject poverty and insane wealth'. A few, the ruling class, are rich beyond even the imagination of most. That chest of gold in the noble's castle is more money then rest of the county will make in their entire lives put together by orders of magnitude, but the vast majority of the world deals in coppers and bartering metal tools for goats and shit. Silver is the stuff of the tiny middle class. Fuck with how much shit costs, make some things a Big Fucking Deal and don't make the PCs officially rich the first time someone throws them a sack of two hundred gold coins. Not because that isn't a Big Fucking Deal, but because no one would even dream of throwing them a sack of two hundred gold coins, that's insane.

No. No they don't. No elves, no orks, no goblins, no furries, no humans, only dwarves.

how about we make everyone orcs

MMO's are terrible.

orcs, Orcs or ORCS ORCS ORCS ORCS?

pretty much this, focus on the PCs as people, instead of a pile of special powers

It's not memes. It would be far easier and faster to learn a system that does what you want instead of trying to force pathfinder into it.

I would recommend you Aquelarre for what you want. But I don't know how good is the translation (if any exists)

Simple, run a game in King arthurs england.

Done

I'm normally a big elffag, but one of these days I would love to run an all dorfs game about digging too deep.

Pendragon's a pretty fun system

>medieval tech level
>everyone is an orc
So, Europe in the 2200s?

>Fighting porn on the internet
A fool's errand.

Ironically enough i have had an absolutely awesome "initially low magic low fantasy" game in pathfinder where i played as the classic healer stereotype.

I think what made the game really fun was a sense of isolation and small scale that more high fantasy games generally doN't have, thanks to the world being full of magical people who explore it and communicate easily.

>pathfinder
No really, memes aside, you want to play a game about magical people, using magic and magical items to kill magical enemies, so they get more magical... to run a game without magic?

Are you retarded?

>i've been using the system for years and its what im the most familiar and comfortable with even if it is a bit flawed

And its just wrong for this, your game will be shit, and hell even if you make it good it woulda been hella better in a game about that stuff, and it aint that hard to learn. It really isn't.

I mean shit dude, try some things and if you still think this retarded idea is better then switch.

Right now you're trying to hammer a nail with a butter knife. Its not even an indictment of the game along the usual '3.pf/dnd is garbage'. You wouldn't buy a multiplayer shooter if you wanted a turn based tactics game, you wouldn't go see a rom-com if you wanted some horror, you font go to a vegan restaurant hoping they serve good steak, you don't turn on the news when you wanna have a wank... well probably wouldn't anyway.

The point is, you're doing it wrong and your game is gonna suffer for it, you are too because you're gonna have to do a lot of work to even make this shit passable. And no, you are not the genre defying auteur genius who's gonna pull this off like never before. Its gonna be shit.

>actual mmo healer
>asking a tank to slow down
Actuall mmo healers are just lazy fucks who pick healer because it's easy as fuck and everyone think that you're hot shit, just like with the tanks.

Alas, poor Sisyphus.

lo-fan does not use powerwank for success.

By having good stories and characters and cool stuff instead of just rubbing your players' faces in medieval misery?

Also make setting things messy, inconsistent, and nonsensical. The real world isn't at all orderly or coherent in obvious ways, and people like their fantasy worlds that way too.

DPS go to bed.
