/srg/ - Shadowrun General

Gonna do this, plus a 30% upcharge in nuyen and Essence and to allow it to transform from a really fucking big arm (character is a troll) to a really fucking Big O arm (shield, no piston, implanted shotgun). Functions as an Extreme Cyberweapon with a few caveats: is effectively a pile bunker, uses shotgun blanks to fire, six shot removable cylinder is stored on the character's person and inserted after transformation, secondary function uses standard shotgun rounds and counts as a Roomsweeper. Only functions while transformed, borderline impossible to conceal while transformed, only slightly sneakier while in the default state.

Not sure how the shield will work, probably just going to have it provide extra armor to the arm (always) and chest (while deployed). It's probably OP, but it's cool and will make the players happy. It also lets me really fuck with them later since a massive troll with a giant robot arm is pretty unique and memorable.

Opinions?

He has a wife that is way too good for him. She's a para-zoologist and he's an ex-drug smuggler turned prison hitman who got released because his brother pulled strings. He's fairly certain that he's a tax write off, and only sees her a handful of times a year. He really doesn't know if it's loveless or not.

Does the guy have to have the shield and the piston-fist in the same arm? Seems like it would be easier to do it as two limbs - one with lots of extra armour to be the shield, and one with the Extreme cyber-weapon.

Just thinking of the practicality of it in terms of SR technology - we don't have hammerspace, and he may want some capacity in the limb for boosting the stats/etc. Plus it will allow him to punch and shield at the same time, and if he wants to do melee he'll need the armour.

Side note, the rules don't work well for armouring specific body parts. You might say something like "it grants an additional box to the Physical Monitor in addition to the cyberlimb bonus box, and when deployed it adds +4 armour as per the Ares Briefcase Shield."

Have the Shotgun be a retooled Grenade Launcher. The Cyberarm itself is a prototype Military and Law Enforcement Cyberlimb designed for Riots and Street Fighting.

Just have the Shield act as the +3 Armor and when its deployed it also acts a shield for portable cover. The Arm can't deploy the shield and ready the Shotgun at the same time.

Mostly the same as except he's more or less okay with himself. He's had sex with one physical woman in his life and it was pretty disappointing compared to the brain-melting neural stimulation of running Hotsim with almost all the add-ons and doodads in cybercombat against corporate Black IC.

It's designed to emulate the Big O and it's finishing attack. When stowed, it'll be kinda ungainly and have massive forearms. It's always obviously a weapon. It's like open carrying an Uzi: legal (provided you have your paperwork and such in order) but makes people uncomfortable and probably scared.

I mean more that at a certain point you should consider compromising for the sake of the rules of SR, unless you want to write up a hit location chart and watch your player walk grinning into a fight, start slowly across a room (trolls having shit speed, better have skates or skimmers) and get shot to death. while he tries to decide whether he wants a shield, a piston-fist or a shotgun.

I thought SR5 did a good job of explaining it. An icon is a symbol of any matrix object which generally depicts its roll or function. To prevent visual clutter most icons are folded into PANs and WANs, except for dangerous things like firearms.

Working on a hack of Anarchy to remove the overly narrative focused bits while still keeping the general streamlining. My players are chomping at the bit to start the game but I'd rather have the system and a few runs under my belt before junping in.

Depends which actions you want to change.
The mark gain actions (hack on the fly/bruteforce) would probably break it, since you can get marks in half the time then.
Changing control device [complex] to a simple action is obviously broken.

All the other matrix actions … I'd leave it the way it is. Then again: What do I know, I'm still a newbie to shadowrun GMing.

Matrix PER should already be a simple action and so should any of the non-illegal (using sleaze/attack) actions honestly because they're all relatively benign

Changing the mark placing skills can be handy because it turns some of the routine hacking actions into one action phase ordeals. Currently I have it set at my table that matrix actions with some exceptions (including Control Device) are simple actions. It hasn't changed much yet because we aren't matrix heavy.

That's all there is to it. If they're just there to make people fuck off, then no. If their job is to make people fuck off and if they don't, kill them and everybody they were with, then yeah, probably.

Remember, if something legal gets stolen, shit gets reported to Lone Star or any other police force and then they deal with it. If it's illegal or secretive, then you'll start seeing hit squads and HTR.

Remind me, what is the Sensor Rating for in a Drone? It serves as limit to tests regarding it's perception, and that's it, right?

Shadowrun newbie here. What kind of dice pools are typically used for primary/secondary kinds of skills?

For example, if I am a a big troll gangbanger, what am I expected to take in stealth and various charisma skills (I guess etiquette and con?), and what am I expected to take in my various facepunch skills?

12+ for your main combat
10/8 for other considerations. Much lower than that isn't really worthwhile.

Depends what kind of chargen rules you have.
Broadly, your primary role (Like, shooting things) should have anywhere from 14 to 20 dice, with 16 a good benchmark for dedicated role competence. Secondary skills (like, your talking if you're not the face) should be at 9-12.

Stealth, etiquette, and gymnastics are usually worth taking at least one point in, just so can avoid defaulting. You will have to make one of those rolls eventually, so you should have enough to not embarass your team.

Thoughts on a monowhip as a secondary weapon? I'm looking for a melee option for my elf street sam.

It's a good fit if you're doing a high AGI low STR build and are willing to invest in the required exotic weapon skill. Get the highest grade fingertip compartment you can find and stick it inside.

If you're willing to put points into unarmed, you can do neat things with martial artsl

Downsides to the monowhip are that it is lethal and illegal as fuck, and it's not a versatile skill.

All the other close combat choices have non-lethal options (especially with martial arts), and Clubs and Unarmed have options that don't rely on STR.

A Shock Hand is super useful. It doesn't rely on strength, can be combined with handy martial arts techniques, and no one is going to bat an eye at it.

Unarmed has a huge amount of options. Shock gloves are a blast and they tend to be very effective, even against drones/electronics. Hard Targets added Plasteel Toe Boots, which will turn your kicks into lethal damage instead of just stun. I mostly like them for fluff purposes though.

Isn't the 8S stun hands kind of wimpy compared to the 13P -8 AV murder machine? I can't see how martial arts can make up for that.

On an unrelated note, are Active Hardwires a good option for picking up extra skills? 0.3 essence and 24000 nuyen seems like a low low cost to be able to access a whole new skill.

8S(e) -5 AP and options for adding strength vs 12P -8 AP with no further improvements
Legal vs Super Illegal
Is masculine, like Bruce Lee vs You twirl around like a Rhythmic Gymnast
If you glitch you look foolish vs if you glitch you fucking kill yourself

Either is fine, both are fun. Mono Whip is a shitton better than clubs, and better than blades. Chainsaws are also a blast. Pick what you want buddy

Depends on how you define viable. Its about as subtle as a heavy weapons specialization, but without being able to be far away. That said, with adept bullshit are augmented agility (Or both) you can definitely keep up with your team unless they're super into powergaming or your GM is a murderous prick.

So, pink mohawk yes, Black Trench coat no.

Your GM might give you Distinctive Style, so consider taking it anyways.

Was hoping to find a general RP advice thread, but didn't find one. Figured this was likely the best spot to ask instead.

Looking into having a PC AI, shackled in that it is contained to its own system with no real ability to communicate without input from another PC until it has eventually learned enough about the party members to convince the other PC's to give it more access to more systems in their ship or home or phone or whatever to then classify it as unshackled.

3) Alternative is Techno with complex form that can extract the AI from the nanites
4) Do a deep matrix dive and destroy the AI yourself
5) Become infected

Electricity & EMP will stun hard nanites. This will allow you to filter them from the subject.

Chemicals exist to kill soft nanites dead. No mess, no fuss.

Starvation kills nanites faster than the original strain can replicate without ingested materials. Nutrition spells will keep you alive.

The Boston strain clusters almost entirely around the brain, and only the brain nanites are contagious.

12 or as close as you can get for your primary skill. Ex. A street Sam and shooting guns, should be rolling 12d

9 for secondary shit, like Athletics, con, etc

6 for tertiary shit you only have for funsies, like if your character plays the guitar or was a chemical engineer in a former life.

Not actually playing one, I'm trying to write a campaign and thought an npc pixie rigger who provides sniper fire and makes a suit of drones would be neat.

Which is why I said secretive as well. If you stole Aztechnologies brand new classified blood magic device that rips out adept veins for fun and profit, they'd probably send a team of highly trained badasses to come and kill you, rip out your adept's veins for laughs, and then retrieve the device.
