Brosarius Cawl

He is the best thing to happen to 40K, prove me wrong.

Hint:you can't

I can't contest that. I already liked him in Gathering Storm, and Dark Imperium made me like him even more.

I mean not all of 40k, but he's pretty cool with all his insane tech heresy.

>10,000 years old
>master of Biological and Technological Science
>spent 0 amount of that time trying to heal the Emperor or find a way to fix the Golden Throne so he wouldn't have to stay on it

oh hey remember that guy who made a pact with my homeworld and we're honorbound to respect and obey?

he's been shot.

FUCK HIM NOW I CAN DO WHAT I WANT IMA SPENT 10,000 YEARS LOCKED IN MY ROOM

Cawl was already a radical during the crusade, and judging from how he speaks about his fellow Magos he gave less than zero fucks about them. Why would he give a fuck about the Emperor when he doesnt believe that he's an aspect of the Omnissah like other techpriests?

Stolen from elsewhere

"Possibly unpopular opinion.
Belsarius Cawl is not a good thing for the story and plot of Warhammer 40 K.

Guy is basically a walking deus ex machina who exists solely to make the impossible possible. Any new development can be attributed to "oh he was working on it for 10,000 years."

What really grinds my gears (cogs) is that Games workshop seems to be forgetting that the rest of the Mechanicum exists.

The Genetor Divisio's? Forget it. Cawl surpassed all their work.

The Macrotek weaponsmiths? Don't need them. Cawl was working for 10,000 years.

The Autokrator Ordo's? Who needs them?! Cawl surpassed all of their work with the stroke.

The Alchymis Grammaton? Irrelevant. Cawl has superseded them.

Next in the lore we are going to see New battleships created by the hand of Cawl and make the baskillion astra completely useless as well because his battleships will be superior an absolutely every single way.

I'm in absolutely massive fan of the machine cult. I read every single bit of low I can get for them, I collect every model. I'm basically bashing my head into the wall over excitement for fires of Cyraxus. Just makes me mad that the most important organization in the imperium is being reduced to one person. Really hope that the codecs, when it eventually comes out, is filled with more story for the mechanicus and just the tales in exploits of Cawl.

What kind of cheeses me off as well, is that despite Cawl crapping out new technology, the codex will probably not get any new models, and as such it will continue to use the same six models with Varying weapon load out."

While I like Cawl, I think he is awesome...GW uses him as an excuse to be lazy with their writing.

CAWL IS A HERETEK.

>Make AI
>Consort with Xenos of all sort most foul
>Does not follow orders even from a Primarch
>Wants to revive the missing legion & traitor legions with Primarus Marines
>Constantly pestering Gully to make him Fabricator General
>List goes on

HERETEK. ALL THIS SHIT IS LEADING TO A NEW HERESY.

THIS SHIT. HERE. Correct sir. You are correct... unless you look at the latest lore. Gully has said Cawl will be 'dealt with' at some point. Cawl is being built up to become a major threat. A new Horus.

wait what.

When did he make AI and llegiones? and dealing with cawl?

I am a bit behind in the lore, elaborate?

>HERETEK. ALL THIS SHIT IS LEADING TO A NEW HERESY.

>Implying that doesn't make him a fun character

I'm just hoping he instigates a moirae schism style event that pits the admech against itself and the primaris chapters as well as the primaris dominant chapters join him against the traditionalists for a proper Imperial Civil War.

In the new dark imperium book. Cawl made an AI out of psychic warpstuff to communicate in secret with Girlyman and it says Cawl wants to put the traitor legions into production, saying its not their fault they fell but the Primarchs. He also called Girlyman a hypocrite since Ultramarines fell as well and it never stopped him from making more

Everything ypu said makes him interesting. For once itd be nice to have some Ioyalist characters who aren't rapidly fanatical and have their own views.on things

Besides, hes not even a member of whatever task force is charged with maintaining and repairing the throne. He might or might not have worked on a design to replace the throne, but it literally doesn't matter right now until he can get designed fielded which will turn the tide on the galactic battlefield.

The new Dark Imperium book elaborates on all the EXTREMELY HERETICAL shit that Cawl has been doing for the past 10,000 years.

This. What makes him interesting is he dangles himself on the edge of "heresy" (nevermind how the Dark Admech are recognized not for merely breaking established norms but going out of their way to plug people into robots and later making war machines out of daemons) and trying to glean what he can see from the top of the wall to make something better.

>Who dares, wins

Cawl is a blatant rip-off of my Rogue Trader group's Techpriest PC (the psy-linked AI in particular!).

>GW has been stalking you and your group for 40k ideas
You fucks invented the Primaris marines didnt you?

I pretty much agree on all this. Cawl is indeed a Deus Ex Machina and emergency plothole plug.

Pretty much this. If it was a consortium of various like-minded Archmagi from different orders, perhaps with their own dedicated station or planet this would make a lot more sense. As is, my headcanon is that Cawl is actually a gestalt mind akin to Galatea but, you know, not quite as insane, just to explain him being able to do everything at once.

The only reason that Cawl is so great and is really the only Mechanicum character that is constantly mentioned in the story with his exploits and achievements are covered in detailed is simple.

He's the only Mechanicum character in plastic in 40k.

Hopefully, that will change in future.

( A triumvirate of the Mechanicus featuring the leader/best of the Prefecture Magisterium, the Legio Cybernetica and the Legiones Skitarii?, A Magus sized model of the Fabricator-General himself/itself? )

A humble tech priest could only dream.....

But till then, Cawl will continue to be the main and only character of the entire Mechanicum.

I shit you not, they must be stealing my Skype logs!!! No, he has not come to messing with humanity's sacred genes yet, but he has linked his AI "friend" to his (stolen) Admech cruiser, the whole servitor crew of said cruiser, to an army of Cybernetica aaaand to the controls of the Exterinatus class weapons he found somewhere in wilderness space ... using xenotech psi-links.

WHAT COULD POSSILBY GO WRONG?!

I just want them to sell the triumverate boxset models separately. I need greyfax and Cawl for conversions.

eBay nigga

Yeah I'll probably just resort to that. I've just never bought any models from ebay before so I'm kind of nervous about doing it

Didn't the Adeptus Mechanicus regress quite a bit in the last 10k years?
A crusade era Magos would be smarter than them, no?

I like Cawl, just the right amount of i don't give a fuck & hey let me help. Also anot awesome mad scientist

I hope they don't fuck him over in the lore.

I'm surprised that the Missing Legions still have any gene-seed stock remaining, let alone accessible to Cawl. They were basically obliterated from history, and yet he gets to play around with their gene-seed.

Cawl probably stole it. Dude has less than zero fucks to give.

The problem is you can't have the Genetor Divisio make a new gen of marines because they never would do so and its long been said it was beyond their ability

It had to be cawl because he was an outsider

Cawl is draining the martian swampius

Sort of related:

At warhammer fest recently the Black Library panel has said they're going to at least write more beast arises-style novel "events" that take place between the Heresy and M41. They want to cover shit like the:

Nova Terra Interregnum (of which the Moriae Schism is part)

Macharian Heresy

Occlusiad War

Occlusiad War would probably be the most interesting. Imperium vs. a new type of ultra-corrupted dark mechanicum ruled by some sort of hellish abomination known as the blind king

I love the model and like the dude but hate the herohammer shit. The fun of Admech was always a group of people with access to beyond godly powers, but due to incompetence, tradotion, laziness, or misunderstanding kinda-sorta keep losing the last bits of knowledge they have.

Cawl on the other hand makes badass shit left and right, and is a prime target for the issues of herohammer- it (and him) is not a bad thing outright, but in a universe where the tagline literally opens with "forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned," it's just a bad fit.

Tl;dr good guy, but not really right for a grimdark setting

>Cawl is basically Kelbor-Hal + Fabius Bile
>Guilliman works with Eldar and Fallen Angels
>Dark Eldar fix the golden throne

The Imperium is surviving because of literal heresy. GW are heretic scum

thats the point, the imperium's ideals are self destructive, only by those that recognize this are the ones that can actually fix it

>He's the only Mechanicum character in plastic in 40k.
This. Sadly this is the real reason Cawl is the deus ex machina character. A lame excuse to sell more plastic crack.

This consortium would have been cool. Even Cawl as the head of such consortium would have been cool. But alas GW is once more fucking greedy shit who fucks with their lore just to sell moar models.

...

I have seen better people disintegrated for less

Cawl's got G-man's protection for now, but even he admits that Cawl's going to have to die eventually for his bullshit.

The geneseed samples he has are from back before the legions were deleted. He just refused/forgot/ignored the order to destroy them.

>“Some changes had been made to Imperial salvaging policies within the fleet. Guilliman had ordered the wrecks of the traitor’s ships to be utterly destroyed. It had been the habit of the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Navy to recover enemy ships. Chaos vessels were of Imperial make, and were often of older, superior patterns. The primarch stamped hard on the practice. Build new ships, he had said. Leave the past where it is. The corruption of the warp buried itself deeply into whatever it touched.
>The Martians had not been happy with that. They had looked upon the older marques of vessel with greedy eyes. Examples had been made."

Confirmed that Cawl gets a free pass on Heresy while tech priests who stick to 10k salvaging practices concerning traitor ships are made examples of. He can and will keep getting away with it

Cawl is a Radical. The whole point of the Mechanicum is that they're hidebound to extremes and essentially holding technology back. And honestly humanity has good reasons to be suspicious of new technology, but Cawl gives no fucks about that. One would hope that GW can make more of this political schism within the Tech Priests so that Cawl's departure from orthodoxy is more than just a convenient plot point. We've seen him fuck up once, we need to see have fuck up again and create some unholy horror that gets loose.

The irritating thing is I really love Cawl's character, he's nicely nuanced, interesting and doesn't give a fuck about outright chewing out Primarchs and pestering them to give them shit, which is nice, since I dislike the Primarchs on principle due to being made far too overpowered and plotwanky. I just wish he would deus ex machina less, or at least spread it out a bit so the Mechanicum, Guard and such get toys too. Space Marines are still too few even with new toys, they weren't lacking in stopping power anyway and pulling vast quantities of new/old bullshit from some rectal orifice in times of crisis is actually fluffy for the Mechanicus.

I made an OC Donut Steel Archmagos myself, he's a Genetor so he does biology, genetics and fancy biomimetic neural nets, with a brief foray into some nasty chemical and biological weapons because he knows how to fuck people up just as well as how to make them great. He leaves the war leading to his Magos Reductor 2IC because he sucks at it, he just helps with logistics and occasionally acts as a beatstick.

Archmagos Kotov from Forge of Mars was the same, he did Archaotech and macro-scale engineering, and was completely out of his depth in a fight unless it was mind-to-mind against another Magos.
Cawl does fighting, logistics, research, vehicle and weapons design, genetics, biology, Archaotech excavating and apparently troop training too. That is approaching Primarch levels of Because Plot.

>He is the best thing to happen to 40K, prove me wrong.
'Ez not an Ork.
Done.

I like to imagine that most of the "new" technology is just stuff Cawl stole from various archives over the past few millennia, and now he's using Guilliman's return as an excuse to field-test a bunch of experimental shit and take the credit for himself.

it wasn't his job, he had been asked to make new arms and work on space marine geneseed which would take up all of his time

also, the custodes wouldn't allow a single techpriest to experiment on the Emperor's body in the hopes that he could revive him, because he could also fuck up and turn off the astronomicon or something even worse

That implies Bellisarius actually gives a fuck about the custodes. Knowing the guy I highly doubt he wouldn't try to, even if he needed to siege the Imperial Palace.

Waging war on Terra itself would be the end of him, though. He's not getting past the Custodes, and landing a titan legion or something (lol good luck the Custodes have their own titans) will just end up with the entire Officio Assassinorum inventory being dumped on him.

Primas Luna Wolves when?

>Guy is basically a walking deus ex machina who exists solely to make the impossible possible.
Shit argument, because GW has been saying since FUCKING ROGUE TRADER that the Adeptus Mechanicus has MILLIONS of secret doomsday vaults and secret projects running constantly in case something bad happens to the Imperium (like Cadia blowing up).

It's not an asspull when you could see it right from the start.

It is still getting handed badly

>Guy is basically a walking deus ex machina who exists solely to make the impossible possible.

So if Cawl is Kamina, who is Simon?

There's actually quite a bit locked away - it's got maximum "DO NOT OPEN" signs on it, but it is there, and has been implied to have been used before (it's implied to be the origin of several chapters in the Cursed Founding)

And seeing as Cawl gives no fucks it's not exactly surprising he wants another crack at it

>in case something bad happens to the Imperium
Bad shit is happening to to the Imperium all the time. Where were these super weapons when Cadia was being destroyed?

I was just thinking that. Cadia is falling, the Admech have committed whole Macroclades (billions) of Skitarii to the defence (which never show up in the book) and Cawl leads his forces to help, and what do they bring? Pissy little Skitarii. Those aren't even as good as the Baskilion Astra Provosts, for fucks sake. Where are the Reductor with their varied superweapon buffet and now unparalleled mastery of exactly this kind of warfare? The Genetors raining phosphex and Cloud bombs and Genetus monstrosities down onto Cadia, the Cybernetica marching the Cohorts to war with the engines of the Centurio Ordinatus at their back?

The Mechanicus will never be allowed to use their greatest weaponry against anyone who doesn't have the plot-granted ability to annihilate or ignore them completely, which is a bit odd when you could consult a basic map for a while and scale your Black Crusade up to a point where it is no longer dramatically outnumbered by one Forge World's reinforcements.

Those Skitarii were probably rerouted to the warzone where that STC they found on the other side of the galaxy is.

This, ever since War of the Beast I've been itching to see another Ordinartus in action.

Not just like "hey, here's a big gun"

No
I want to hear all about it's glorious inner workings, how it's pure energy alone could power ah imperial hive for years, how each one of its million bolts and nuts were personally oiled and lubricated to the highest degree, how it's glorious tracks propel the Omnissiahs greatest weapons to hurl it bolts of wrath towards its enemy. How it's kilometers of cabling could wrap around even the highest hive towers of the adeptus administorum, how the sheer firepower it sends could atomise even the most foul of Xenos or heretic creations. How you could blot out the sun with its clouds of incense, how it takes hundreds of thousands of lines of prayer to even turn it on and grace it's glorious machine spirit

I want that.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that particular never-resolved plot thread. That would be a cool book to write about, tie it in with and just write a whole book of Cog Porn, let us see the myriad forms of the Omnissiah's wrath made manifest and the myriad talents of His servants from every branch of the Admech wrecking the shit out of absolutely fucking everything, show us the sheer scale of the Forge Worlds tallying billions of troops and tanks and stranger things as easily as lesser men count dozens as the Mechanicus shakes off the lethargy of centuries just this once.

It would be way more interesting than another book about Space Marines shooting things with Bolters, that's for sure, and I wouldn't want more than one. Just give us a massive Opum Machina-shaped spotlight and have us go to town.

I'm hopeful that Fires of Cyraxus will provide some of that, although it's against the sodding Tau so victory is unlikely.

But we already have Ordinatus figures, Ulator and Sagittar from Forge World. Or are we getting a plastic figure, finally?

Because the Mechanicus relies on the emperor in a practical sense almost as much as every other imperial faction?

I mean that's why he saved Guilliman right? Because it was ultimately good for himself, or do you think that he saved Guilliman because deep down he's just an ultramarines fanboy?

He did it because he swore an oath to Guilliman. Cant have the project signed off on if the boss is out of action.

Literally half the digits he knows is 0, and that is the one he chosen to represent how many fucks he gives.

Made by Forge World and have no plastic model so they will never show up. Buy Citadel, not Forge World, pleb. GW wants people buying plastic so they hype plastic on their stories, and quietly censor anything that can't be bought by little Timmy in a store.

And they have business to begin with because they're all loyal to the Emperor. Regardless of the contrived roundabout social politics involved, they are all in it for the Emperor's sake.

Consider that idea stolen for my Primaris user

Skitarii bombs when?
