i imagine since fire genasi are more arrogant and confident that subtly isn't their strong point. as part of their ambush, have them use pyrotechnics or some other fire/light related spell to blind or otherwise hinder the party while they go in for the kill. they can block pathways with fire and guide the party into another ambush if they try and flee.

also i imagine that during the whole first round, as they are burning and stabbing the party, they're having some elaborate introduction to themselves sort of ginyu force or team rocket style.

i mean the nobles would be on their asses anyways because they're crashing a party to kill, yknow, the person they're having a party celebrating anyways. either way they're going to piss them off. if you think they'd want to avoid pissing them off, have them stalk the party, perhaps have a spy or two at the ball keeping an eye on the party and coordinating with the rest of the mercenaries outside. let the party have a few insight checks possibly to see if they're suspicious or not. once the ball is over and the party leaves, they trail them just far enough and then ambush them.
