/hhg/ The Horus Heresy General

Sokar Pattern Thread
Lanklet Magnus Sub Edition

Last thread had a rocky start with Curzefag doing the baking then femarch posting happened immediately. Perturabo being angry at a painting and Dorn outwitting Alpharius almost managed to get things back on track until the Emperor's Children turned up and made everything super gay again. Some Thousand Sons list advice was posted as well as more primaris as blackshields, user wanted a chainsword on a cataphractii praetor. Some shitposting occured and a lot of implications were thrown about. You can read more in the old thread here but I honestly wouldn't bother.

Good bread, user. Was going to make one, but you beat me to it.

I claim this bread for the Mechanicum. Post beepboop and boop manager conversions, people.

first for HH died with Alan Blighe RIP

Reposting from last thread:
Like an idiot I bought a Malcador Annihilator but want to field it as the battlecannon/demolisher cannon variant. What's the best way to convert the turret? Been looking at the cannons from a taurox prime and imperial knight as possible candidates but not too sure which would fit best.

I want them to wreck the Taupucci so hard
Why shouldn't there be crab tanks for the Mechanicum? The Reductor had to invent Thallax because they no longer had access to Skitarii...which means everyone else DOES have access to them
TL;DR: Ree, give crab tanks.

Bligh, no e.

It does make me worry what kind of fluff the White Scars will get in their black book...

You probably won't see tracked tanks and crab tanks from the same forges. Different motive power for different terrain (GW thinks all planets have one type of climate and terrain).

Crab tanks over very rocky terrain, I guess?

>You probably won't see tracked tanks and crab tanks from the same forges. Different motive power for different terrain
Pfff all-terrain drive, bitch ;^)

By all rights the Tau should get owned this time around, and we know there are plenty of FW Admech fans from the huge range of awesome we have here in the Heresy. I'm hopeful.

Personally I'm just enjoying actually converting some things for once. Occularis nearly done, then speed-painting a bunch of shit. I just need to fill the carapaces with the greenstuff creatures.

Can't wait to see the Blood Angels get jacked off some more.

>The Reductor had to invent Thallax because they no longer had access to Skitarii

Wat. Surely Skitarii are easier to make than Thallax? I thought Thallax where Spehs Muhreens: Martian Edition?

When they were created, the Reductor were separated from the martian command hierarchy and thus no longer had ready access to the Skitarii legions (don't know why), but in their newfound errant freedom they decided they would make their ideal shock trooper, more resilient than the average Skitarii since they lacked the people and the mass production of small arms to arm them.
Why they don't use Kataphrons? Beats me. Why they weren't simply gifted some Skitarii? I'm guessing it's because they didn't have the forgeworld-tier manufacturing capacities needed to mantain such an army, but they do use Thallax soldiers as currency for deals. I'm justifying it here.
But if the Taghmata recieved the Skitarii, that'd be the thing that would make Taghmata worthy of being used, instead of them being mere undecided Reductor players.

>Post beepboop and boop manager conversions, people.

...

I suppose an isolated Martian outpost might not have access to the food output of knight worlds to support a large number of minimally augmented troops. Thallax are basically just a brain in a jar, that requires minimal calories per day to sustain.

...

Sup /hhg/

I've just finished painting the last of my Betrayal at Calth guys and I was wondering if you guys had any advice on what to buy next? Sons of Horus if that helps.

Lupercal!

>It does make me worry what kind of fluff the White Scars will get in their black book...
Luckily white scars are pretty much the only legion where every BL book they are in is good though that'll change at Terra no doubt so HH9 ought to turn out decent.

Not a Magos per se, but does look like one.

>Cawl visits Innsmouth

What was the name of that thing in the back?

I WISH I could pull off that dirty white for my command staff to contrast with the green and bronze on everybody else. That looks like it took fucking forever, though.

That looks like it used to be a model of Cawl, it just appears to have had some extensive surgery.

>mere undecided Reductor players.
Yeah, there's basically nothing you don't want one of the specialist divisions for short of small allied detachments with Adsecularis troops.

Doesn't stop almost every YouTube batrep with the Mech being the same Thallax/Castellax/Thanatar/Magos mix with occasionally some Krios or Adsec thrown in, though. I will admit it looks pretty cool, though. Shame Thallax are a bit useless half the time, but I'd probably still take six even if I didn't have to because they look so awesome.

The one time I saw a Reductor list batrep, it utterly annihilated the MWG Alpha Legion player with hardly any losses, and executed Alpharius after he tried to march towards Gravidons with only Dynat in tow without even using One With Many. Man, that guy does NOT know how to XX.

I know that, but Blanche gave the model a name.

Considering all this talk of everyone's favourite Martian bombardier boys, what's the general consensus on how to run Ordo Reductor? I've been interested in starting a force, probably with either a support Lachrimallus/Adescularis Techblob or a Macrotek Turtlebunker. Any thoughts, or other (read: probably better) ways to play them?

Jesus christ, the "Extended Calth Universe" is such a clusterfuck of shit. And on top of that every fucking story follows the same pattern,
>Word Bearers do shit
>get their asses kicked by UMs
>"we intended to lose" bullshit
>Word Bearers summon some daemons and prepare their doomsday device
>get foiled
>bazillions of mortals die
>some Ultramarines die in the process
it's so incredibly unnecessary and stupid, it literally pisses me off.

Know no Fear was great, but every other book set in Ultramar and especially those related to the ruinstorm are unfiltered shit.

To make best use of our truly superlative tonks, deepstriking tanksniping troops, Droplites, whatever the hell else, you'll want an Archimandrite as your Warlord for 2+ reserves and IWND on every single vehicle. That means you need a Magos Reductor (I recommend just giving him a Machinator and having him mind the artillery, buffing and fixing on 3+) and the Archimandrite, leaving you without a HQ slot free in Matrix of Ruin. No big deal unless you're going for Blitzkrieg, you can just use the normal Force Org.

>Lachrimallus/Adescularis Techblob
Always fun as fuck, although I use Levies instead. Respawning tarpits are glorious trolling, and I'd never take less than 40 even with no LachriMagos. Seeing as they respawn, it's probably worth going for the full 375 to get 20x3 Fearless, 4+ 5+FnP Hatred guys.

>Macrotek Turtlebunker
Good for siege battles, but you've got kinda short range outside some of the artillery and decent mobility on everything. Also, no forts with Matrix of Ruin. I've bunkered down a couple times, but it kinda turns into a snipefest unless you know your opponent is coming to you.

My personal two favourite methods, neither exclusive for yours and I run a mix of these two and Techblob:

3) Armoured Charge. You take your mandatory Thallax, you then nab a couple nice toys from the other slots, and with the entirety of your HS choices, you take a 2:1 ratio of cheap PotMS Vindicators and Krios Venators. Expensive, but hilarious when your opponent sees at least six Fast, Scoring Tanks with pure bullshitonium weaponry regenerating as they rush towards him.

Follow up with deepstrikes and whatever else.

4) Red Lightning. Fed up with all the slow beepboops, you take a plane, deepstriking Thallax and Ursarax, speedy vehicles, Droplites and Dropidons Jump Pack Magi, mix in a little #3. Get in their faces and rip them to bits while they struggle to realize that you can do fast with the best of them.

1/2

Not that it'll help you feel better, but the Calth storyline being extended was pretty much on the orders of the GW higher ups to get everyone hyped and then buy Betrayal at Calth boxes.

Would it have been so hard to not do ultramarines so we could have Isstvan III or something?

Thallax should never be above 3 men, too expensive. Either give them Destructor and a Photon Thruster or Multimelta to hunt tanks, or Ferrox and Heavy Chainblades, use them to poke, score harass and tarpit. They don't kill things, but they do everything else.

I would recommend at least one of the following for Spartans, big LoWs and Primarchs:

- Droplite squad
- Gravidon Squad, with some kind of transport
- Two or more Krios Venators (Them with Master of Destruction is sex, turns them into basically 4-shot Sunder Laser Destroyers)
- Two or more Vulturax and a managing Dominus (or Satarael as Warlord)
- A Lightning Fighter.

Artillery can't handle Spartanstars efficiently, but they can sure help, or obliterate the contents if you pop it. I run both the Droplites and the Grav, but my meta is deathstar central so it's kinda required. One should be more than enough most times.

You CAN take automata, but Cybernetica does it better, as do the Legions sometimes. Take if you want some cool boops, pretty much none of them save the Domitar are bad. I am planning three Castellax to escort Satarael around.

Enginseers are good if you have three or more artillery tanks, I'd say below that they're a tad inefficient due to lack of fixing above and beyond what the Magos Reductor can do himself.

Walkers In Ruin makes us actually pretty nippy, even without speed buffs we close the enemy down deceptively fast since they can't limit our angles of attack at all and don't suffer -2 to Charge through terrain. Ursarax like that.

We can do pretty much anything, or like me, a melange of most of it all together since we have stupid synergy between everything with Magi Prime specialists and Magos Reductor battering rams. Remember, we don't just siege, we solve Outside Context Problems like nobody else, and that gives us a hell of a toolbox.

Ave Deus Mechanicus, brother, and good luck.

>Betrayal at this is a good deal and we don't give a fuck either which legions are involved nor about the actual game it comes with
Then we got Burning of MkIIIpero ft Geigor the Who-handed.
Will there be a MkII box? Say it's about DA or WS, not that anyone cares much.

How silly would it be to run a Custode army with no vehicles besides Dreadnoughts? I have two Achillus and two Galatus and was thinking of a pure deep strike force with them, Valdor/Tribune, 3-4 squads of Sentinels/Guardians, and maybe a squad of Sagittarum.

Thoughts?

It would be badass.
Using Eldar vehicles is for scrubs anyway.

Phew, mostly done on my test model. First 30k/40k figure I've painted in years. No idea how to thin my paints and still get any sort of coverage with white, but I'll work on getting there.

So why do people typically view Solar Auxilia as a meme faction?

Is anyone actually still interested in the "highschool femarchs" webcomic idea I dropped? Maybe something of it is salvageable.

The first White Scar I have seen posted here, looks good fella, keep it up.

Your aid is appreciated, forge-brother. However:
>Droplite/Dropidon
>Gravidon
I'm a bit of a scrub so I don't know what those mean. I assume Graviton Imploder Myrmidons and some kind of Arvus/Jetpack related shenanigans?

no one is except you and a few deviants. Get a blog for that kind of shit.

>Droplite/Dropidon
basically a million haywire shots stuffed into a deep strike transport. Say goodbye to you super heavy

I'm a deviant, but I say if you love it you should do it. This is the prequel tiny soldiers general, they do what they want because they want to, why shouldn't you?

>I assume Graviton Imploder Myrmidons and some kind of Arvus/Jetpack related shenanigans?
Now with el cheapo haywire Hoplites

I'm honestly incredibly surprised we don't have standard Skitarii units around for 30k. Why the shit can't they basically be run like they are in 40k?

>meme faction
I usually say that of the Militia, not of the everloyal Solar Auxilia. But the next books will release more stuff for the marines and even mechanicum while mortals will never get any more than what their army lists already have, so perhaps it's also that?
Also, the damn list can bring like 6 plasma guns per army, booooooo.

I would love to do it, but writing and drawing kills my brain. Also, as the image I posted proves, I'm kind of shit at drawing.

My idea was to turn it into a Veeky Forums collaborative setting, kind of like a reboot of Warhammer High but better. Thing is I don't know if I could get enough interest.

I have no idea what kind of vibe you're going for, but get some solid artwork and I'd be willing to write.

Who needs plasma when you can drown your enemy in wounds?

This guy recasted a bunch of Draykavac heads.

Makes me think of Alpha from the old Men in Black cartoon when he became a robit.

The Unremembered Empire is quite bad. Yeah, Nemesis and Battle for the Abyss are worse but hoo boy Unremembered Empire is dumb.

Not so sure about "solid artwork" but give me a day or so and maybe tomorrow I'll post some notes on plans I had for the comic/characters?

Looking good, it's nice to see the Vth. Needs some scar markings though.

They're like the definition of pay to win. The models are hugely expensive and the army is positioned pretty well against 3+ armor.

Yeah, I'm coming to terms with the fact that we won't have decals for another year or two so I should either get shoulder pads with molded details, 40k decals (don't like the yellow), or freehand them. Gotta think of a company/brotherhood name and symbol, too.

I do like this old Mongol flag...

Because FW doesn't sell them.

I didn't mind Unremembered Empire. The tension between Lion and Roboute was great. The watchpack was one of the rare portrayals of cool Space Wolves.

I don't absolutely despise the Cabal plot like a lot of other people so that may explain my tolerance for the book.

I think my problem is that too much stuff was introduced without a satisfying resolution/plotline for everyone. You have something like 9 legions (Ultramarines, Alpha Legion, Salamanders, Space Wolves, Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Imperial Fists, Iron Warriors, Night Lords) represented in at least some capacity, the cabal and the anti-cabal, Eldrad, and 5 primarchs (Roboute, Curze, Vulkan, The Lion, Sanguinius) all showing up.

>Pay to win
>In a hobby that's all about buying the biggest, most powerful shit to gain the upperhand
The thing they've really got going for them would be their access to defense lines and a ridiculous amount of cheap infantry.

Any thoughts on the IF RoW Hammerfell Strike Force? I know it get's tossed under the rug alot but I really dig the idea of teleporting in massed infantry across the board and I'm trying to figure out a way for it to work well.

>all this talk of Unremembered Empire

I feel obliged to leave this here.

Like most Imperial Fists stuff, it's okay. 15 points for teleportation transponders isn't *that* much better than 35 points for drop pods and gaining phalanx warders as troops isn't much of a bonus given that you give up allies for it. The mass blind test is kinda neat as is Shrouding if you have nice area terrain on the table.

The guy with 90 Custodes and more on the way here, I think you should go for it. I mean, we're so good that you don't really need vehicles, although I have two of each and plan to get more.

Who needs wounds when you can drown your enemy in Plasma?

So far my thoughts are using a Seeker or Destroyer squad to obtain a Land Raider Proteus and giving it an explorator augury web. That way it can find it's way to a safer location for the unit to pop out and mow some infantry down backed up by a trio of twin-linked lascannons. Then I'd be using their nuncio vox to accurately beam down large squads of troops farther down the board, and giving that tacts have nuncio's as well I can keep teleporting them accurately into the mid field.

I have a few more ideas on the matter I'm still working out, a Damocles would be helpful to but that's going to be starting in reserves.

Phalanx Warders are hugely expensive, so that's not much of an advantage. Teleport transponders are good, but your Terminators can buy them outside of this RoW and you don't want to start with too many units in reserve. The reserve rules are the problem, imo.

What the Fuck you have 90+ Custodes too? I have 91 now and am gonna buy more when the upgrade packs come out

>less than 100
>not even 1% of the Ten Thousand
I have 110 Custodes. You casuals need to step it up.

I had 435 Ultramarines before I sold them at the end 5th edition; obsession is my vice.

What have you got now? Besides money and sanity?

91 Custodes, 45 Deathwatch, and 65 HH Imperial Fists.

I fucked up.

You guys are weak compared to this amazing Space Wolf player that used to be in these threads, he had the entire Vlyka Fenryka chapter amazingly converted and pro-painted. I wonder what happened to him, probably had to give up his job as a paramedic and thrice-weekly dates with new hotties to go serve in Afghanistan.

You reminded me of how RGbro was an actual paramedic. I do wonder what was of him.

>TFW working on Dread and just not happy with it at all
>TFW not sure what to do but you don't want to start over

Fuck.

Waffle-Custode here as well, and I plan on doing just that.

I might get a nu-marine hover tonk though.

From what others have said, Sagittarum aren't worth the points, but don't let that stop you if you love how they look. And if you put a shield AND a familiar on the Tribune, everyone will hate you, just sayin'.

Gonna make a list soon; this is the 91 Custode user, by the way. Pretty sure you, me, and the other Custode player are the only ones who post our stuff.

I think that looks great user. And you're in a better spot than me.

>paint up Custodes all awesome and nice
>pic related
>spray with purity seal
>all sparkly now, especially on one side
I'm trying to decide what to do, because I don't want to strip them bare, or paint over it. And I'm thinking that pinesol is going to be too harsh for what I want to try, which is take a toothbrush, dip it in the solvent, and give it a light scrub and rinse in an attempt to take off just the top layer or two.

He switched to Custodes, he was itt the other night saying he has over 90 of them and 6 grav tanks with more planned.

They remind me of melting chocolate bars.

Hit them with a gloss varnish, let dry for an hour, then hit with purity seal.

Trust me I do it all the time and it fixes EVERYTHING.

A question for all Mechanicum players. Are Thallax decent? Would they be worth taking as an optional Heavy Support choice in a Solar Auxilia list or would I be better off taking tanks?

Try painting the eagle's feathers in silver.

Droplites is a squad of Secutarii Hoplites in an Arvus Lighter. Deepstrike in, hop out, fire 12 BS5 Haywire shots into the back of a Superheavy or Spartan that looked at you funny then run your surprisingly durable scoring squad around his deployment zone and force him to kill it, or they'll gut the rest of his vehicles or tie up his artillery and such

Dropidons is the same, but with Myrmidon Secutors with Graviton guns - more durable, less damage. Alternatively, put a Gravidon squad in the Arvus and kill deathstars on what's practically remote control.

Gravidons are Myrmidon Destructors with Graviton Imploders, they'll wound almost all the time against deathstars because BS5 Preferred Enemy grav weapons. Pops Primarchs really quite well, although they do need transport for short ranged weapons.

More tanks. Thallax are durable and nippy, so their saving grace from their absolutely atrocious damage output is using them to score, but you can't do that and unless you have Charonites running around they're massive demolisher bait. Look cool, shame their rules are so bad.

Unfortunate. Thanks for the info.

In a mechanicum list where they're jetpack scoring units they can be useful but I wouldn't waste heavy support slots on them, they're expensive if you max them out and can only have 1 special weapon per 3. I tend to use 2 x 3 man squads with destructor and a photon thruster and use their mobility to keep them out of trouble whilst sniping with the photon thruster from a distance for my mechanicum. With SA I'd just take some more tanks. The leman russ executioner would have a higher damage output.

Everything? Not Custard player, but I might give it a shot for some of my own coloration woes.

Hey sorry user passed out before you replied; that does sound more insidious than the get vision, rebel bullshit we get served with; would take that over the canon fluff any day.

You do you Curzefag, just dont spam the thread and keep things civil, (your doing good for the most part).

I agree with you Beepboops, fuck the silly vagina faced tau; preferably with a heavy chainsword into their forehead twat.

What is everyone werkin on today/tonight? pic related

Yeah I use it on everything; brings the colors to perfectly blended tones when they're both done since it won't remove any of the warmth or depth to your colors.

Pulling apart an ebay Land Raider with my bare hands, hobby knife, and my bare hands to get at the juicy engine block inside before cleaning it up and re-assembling it better than the guy who built it the first time did. The Land Raider and other CSM projects are taking priority for the moment for the fate of Konor summer campaign thing because one of my friends is a devout loyalist and my other main 40k friend is mostly Eldar/Tau/Nids and has a small force of Raven Guard he started last year, meaning that the burden is mine to carry. I must, for the good of the hobby, take it upon myself to Destroy Ultramar.

Haha, pic related feeling?

Im painting up this Spartan in stages so I dont get burnt out on painting, took a month off of it due to overdoing it; want to finish everything before I do my kitbash of a Lightning using that Ho-347 and some creative thinking from Dust tactics

I'll have to give it a try tomorrow to see it in person

Is purity seal just satin varnish?

Pretty much; depending on how you spray it can come out more matte versus satin. If you overgloss the whole model and the use satin, it brings the colors back to full tone but removes any overshine or lack of depth. You could also use Semi-Gloss if the entire model is already bright metallics.

Trying to think of what else to add or change with these three. Posted them before but couldn't come to any solid conclusions. Thoughts?

All are Imperial Fists and they're my Moritat, Chaplain, and Master of Signals.

the right hand of the master of signals is huuuge
