Also, can a divine caster still cast with a weapon and a light shield? Light shields seem odd in allowing you to still use that hand, just not for weapons.

Melee seems plenty viable in Starfinder. And some classes pretty much rely on it (Solarion).

I think one important thing people are forgetting about Melee in Starfinder is that there will be tons of options to counter it.
Flash Bang, Ice, and Sticky grenades.
Tasers and bean bag shotguns.
Countless Proximity Mines next to explosive vehicles.
Melee is strong, but getting to it seems like a bad idea unless you unlock teleporting.
