Infinity General-FNG was awake to make new thread edition

Infinity is a 28mm scale futuristic skirmish game by Corvus Belli where small teams of space special forces fight a desperate battle to shoot each other.

Battlereport-fag here again. Documented a battle between friends yesterday, here's the best of.

Used a small flashlight for occasional lighting. Shone through templates for colored lighting.

...

...

...

...

Okay, this one's possibly my favourite. Colored acrylate looks amazing with just a little light shone on it.

...

End of spam. These were taken on the fly, without interrupting the game. Stressful, but pretty solid I'd think.

First for remove Nomads

Which faction is closest to having Ormians, Pan'o or Haqqislam?

Nice shots and smart use of transluscent plastic.

Why do we hate Nomads again?

This pic was made during another game. The sheet of paper is an armory proxy, with marked entrances. We turned off the light and used the flashlight with a red camomarker.

It's nothing special. But this inspired me to another idea that I'm gonna explore:

Visual cyperspace for Hackers in battlereport pics. It's easy, really. Take a note whenever two hackers battle it out with programs. After gaming is over, prepare a small area to look techy, maybe tron-like. Paint some circuit board patterns with text marker f.e. and place the hackers inside. Turn of light to black out the surroundings, use UV light to make those text marker patterns glow. That should produce a pic one can throw into a battlereport whenever some brains get blasted.

>Ormians
I consider myself generally familiar with a good amount of popular sci-fi. What the frell are Ormians?

It's Armenians in some filthy slav language.

Sounds baller as fuck. Can probably have fun with TAG possession and such in a similar fashion.

>frell
There will never be a new scifi show as fun as farscape.

Oh, I was thinking it could be Formians, which are an ant people from DnD when I was looking it up.
You switched up the replies there, kiddo. But yeah, just as soon as some sci-fi series seems to be building up to be decent it gets cancelled or no one watches it to begin with. Well, at least there's going to be that new Dark Crystal
movie on net flicks. Speaking of that platform Voltron's kind of fun, too bad the fandom's obnoxious.

If you could add one new Sectorial to Infinity, what would you add?

Like new as in not based on any existing units or new as in with some of the existing units that already exist?

If the latter, "White Banner" sectorial of Huang Di, as I've got quite the fixation and liking for "snow" planets and badass warriors who come from it or hide in it. SW:ESB is my favorite for a reason.

That'd include Daofei, multiples, Guilang, multiples, and linkable Zhanshi as well as a Tiger Soldier and Hac Tao. All various units I absolutely love. I'd also make them introduce another unit to represent Korea (that isn't a remote like the Son-Bae but could be something like inferior combat jump or otherwise AD Light Infantry or just a new line trooper). And then the Invincible Army can come in with Acheron Falls and I can doubledib

Oh yeah, forgot to mention Shaolin Monks who are based in there. It'd be a sectorial with an actual cheap warband unit. That'd be pretty dope. Maybe introduce some kind of Character like a Bruce Lee recreation or whatever that can turn them regular and linkable so there'd finally be a use for the stupid combi-rifle monk no one uses. With the Rui Shi remote I think it'd be easy to be set with that, and look cool doing it.
I think I recall Valerya Grosmov being a PanO Atek from Albania. Albania, Armenia, close enough, what's the difference?

Armenians live in Armenia. The diaspora is called Ormians. It just like you have sefarids and ashkenazis, and plain jews in Isreal.

Albania is a muslim country. Armenia was the first Christian Kingdom. So the difference is like between hamburger and a pork chop .

We're having a discussion about the dodge movement rules.

People claim that since pic related, the following is implied:

> Dodge moves in reactive turn follow normal move rules.
> Meaning: Model A annonces BS attack skill with combi rifle, targeting model B. Model B is in partial cover. Model B AROs with dodge, pointing out the 2" dodge path he will take if the dodge is successful.

> This path would take him out of partial cover.

> For this BS attack, Model A fires against B with NO cover mod, since B moves out into the open.

I think this feels wrong, but I haven't formulated my arguments yet. First thing that comes to my mind is that dodge move doesn't behave entirely like a normal move, since if you get killed during a normal move, you collapse at the end of your pointed out path. So this happens truly simultaneously.
If you get killed by failing your dodge roll, you collapse where you stood, the path is not taken. At least I think so.

OSS

Weeaboo faction.

nomads weeabo not honoraburu japanese sectorial

Glorious Nippon sectorial is for tasteful people who enjoy japanese culture .

Nomads are for closeted shameless weeaboos who fap to catgirls and traps.

I'm interested in starting Infinity. Could anyone give a quick rundown of play styles for the different factions? I'm most interested in an up-close-and-personal army that runs at you with shotguns or swords if that's viable in this game. Thanks!

JSA with motorcycles and domaru core led by neko.

>not charging-targe demomen the sectorial

Anyone have the copy-pasta for factions? don't feel like typing out out again

Aleph ASS greek and the Caledonians from Ariadna sectorials are other choices.

You need to understand that they are better at those options, but melee is never the first choice usually.

This question again? Well every faction has a few units that can do what you're talking about, but there are a few factions that do it better than others (especially within a subfaction with extra bonuses for theming your army).

The Yu Jing's Japanese Sectorial Army has about the best and some of the best close combat specialists which also get protection from being Heavy Infantry with armor or Thermal-Optic Camouflage. The Oniwaban, for example, which is a unit you can find in its starter, has both TO Camo, a means to get really close with superior infiltration, a shotgun, and a sword sharpened to the edge of an atom. Another staple unit for them, the Domaru, has decent shooting with a combination of two wounds from its armor and high close combat skills with availability of template weapons or other heavy weapons. Plus in cc they can go berserk to basically auto-hit in combat in return to being auto-hit (but its armor helps protect it better than enemy can be protected. JSA's also has bikes like those gangs from Akira that can really get up close fast to shotgun or shoot one's face. They also have the technically best Close combat units in the game with the max Stat (25) and highest Martial Arts Level (5) to be found on two of their characters (Miyamoto Musashi and Shinobu Kitsune), both of which have either an AP+EXP output (which does three rolls halving armor) or monofilament (which 60% of the time instantly deletes a unit if they didn't already take a critical hit from rolling a twenty and adding five to the roll)

Best runner ups for that are Aleph's Assault Sub-Section (steel phalanx) which has a plethora of options with ODD, smoke, and heavy armor to compliment their elite skills and fireteams who can gang up at uncomfortable close ranges.

The Caledonia sectorial from Ariadna has its strengths in being able to field hardy werewolves and cheap high CC type units.

You're more likely to shoot first, cc if you can do it for an uneven trade.

I'll paint the picture in broad

PanO: Supa shooty* (but no smoke sources)
*their Knightly orders do stabby ok, but would rather shoot
Yu Jing: Stabby but also shooty because this isn't a stabby game

Haqqislam: Shooty, but also with higher number of models than the first two, and overall more specialist oriented. +1 WIP the faction with a trade-off in less potent gunz.

Nomads: Board control with mines, hacks, camo, smoke, and gunz.

Ariadna: less shooty, sometimes stabby, but overall more numbers and a lot less vulnerable to hacking. Also has werewolves for some reason

Aleph: More elite units with better stats and equipment, but of course balanced out by fielding less models (beware netrods and posthumans tho). They'll do shooty and stabby with plenty of units, otherwise generally snooty shooty

Combined Army: generally leans to elite as well, a few sneaky units, the red klingon monkeys are more brute force. Exotic stuff will also be found.

Tohaa: all their tech's biotech, no remotes, has extra armor on most of their core units that make them more elite and also lots of three man link teams. Some stabby but mostly shooty and plenty of shenanigans.

So I know nothing about the RPG but this is super fun, albeit not everything seems to work.

Honestly you can build every faction barring maybe two around multiple styles of play. It would be better to get to grips with the core game before deciding, because you'll be able to evaluate units at that point.

You could play pretty much any faction to account for what you want.

>best close combat specialists

As someone who plays Yu Jing, just started the game about 3 months ago...I am so let down constantly by the close combat in the game :(. I love Infinity too but this shit happens all the time;

>Finally deliver Shinobi. Hey she even was able to base two models for MA Level 5 shit! Roll one die, they get a crit. Welp...
>In Hidden Deployment but ever model around ends up being a flamer, that will happily trade for my Oniwaban/Ninja in points when I charge in
>Get in close combat, it actually lasts a turn due to multiple wounds.
>They shoot my model in a good range band in close combat. I can't even ARO and get blasted.

I just constantly see my close combat specialists get mowed down. Seems like it's just not a part of the game CB wants to see done.

You're probably just playing her wrong or have a really open table. Shinobu using MA4 has an 82.5% to auto kill literally any model in the game assuming their ftf roll is a 15 or less. There are games when she get's burned to death, but also games where she can just cut in half a 50pt HI or an 80pt TAG.

You're not using them correctly or your opponent is smart. Or the maps you're playing on aren't accustomed for CqC ( this is actually a really big factor).

Oniwabans are great for taking out tags.

Oniwabans are also great for some situational missions like Rescue or the hunting party one.

A large thing about infinity is making a list for the mission. As well as using that list effectively. Even if you're not equipped to take out the enemy you can still win.

Ill take a shot here too.

PanOceana: The hyperpower. They have the highest tech and the best shooting. Straightforward and powerful army. Their soldiers also have lower willpower than most. "But how could this happen....I'm with PanO?!"

YuJing: Asian #2. Really wants to be PanO. Has good but not quite as good tech and worse shooting. Makes up for it with martial arts and such tricks. Also specialized in Heavy Infantry. Has great Close Combat but close combat is a really really really small part of this game.

Ariadna: The low-tech faction. No power armor, no laser guns, no nanopulsers. Just rifles and armor piercing rifles. Ariadna has lots of camouflage, and nobody has more than 1 wound. They also have the most armor-piercing metal. They tend to play an aggressive horde in my experience with even the strongest trooper really lagging compared to YuJing or PanO power armored infantry. This doesn't mean bad. Their best guys tend to be glass cannons by comparason. One time PanO and YuJing worked together to clone William Wallace and have him destroy Adriana. It didn't work out.

Nomads: Powerful Medium Infantry and hackers. I know little but I hear their culture is crazed internet addicts who hate AI.

AELPH: Small model count army with tons of special characters based on Greek Myth. Run by the benevolent AI AELPH. Not a fan personally.

Combined Army: THE bad guys of infinity. A small model count elite army containing Evil planet of the Apes, various monsters, and reaper from overwatch, all working for an evil alien AI named EL that wants humanities worlds.

Tohaa: Aliens obsessed with the number 3 and biotechnology. They are a high skill floor army. I hear incompetent Tohaa get shot and die easily but a skilled player will make their Triad fireteams to loads of work. They fight the combined army, and would like for humans to fucking help. Assholes.

I cant believe I forgot Haqqislam.

Hockeyslam: Think the Moors in space. Golden Age Islam all over again. Looks like terrorist but has best medical technology. Tons of doctors to heal your army. They also bill themselves as the good guys even though most of their best troopers use illegal ammo and gadgets. They specialize in Light Infantry with heavy armor being the exception among their forces, not the rule. They also apparently bought most of the shotguns in universe because every basic dude in haqqislam seems to have a fucking shotgun.

Yo with the RPG am I missing something or is saving your Life Points for additional careers just a way better deal than anything else you can possibly spend them on?

I'm not sure about this career path system. It has elements of true random gen, "make it work" like say WFRP 2e but it also seems pretty easy to game if you tilt at the right moment.

I don't see TAGS in my meta, but if I did I could see how monofilament would be nasty.

My opponent(s) are good players and our tables are actually more dense than most tables I see online. Almost to the point of being too dense probably.

The issue is I see a lot of templates. So even if I stealth/deliver an Oniwaban, many of the models I would like to kill can just go down with me as they template. Or, if I do kill one model--she gets dropped quickly.

It's very order intense to pull off a stealth run with her if my opponent covers AROs well, so it's very tough to get her back to safety. Even then, if I do--it doesn't feel like a very efficient use of orders to deliver her, kill, then get her safe. Seems like I could have done a lot more with guns/grunts.

And I'm open to the fact that perhaps I'm playing her wrong.

I think her hidden deployment really shines around objective missions. She doesnt need to make a huge run and kill a bunch, she can just chill around a central objective, then turn 2 or whenever she can just show up, move, stab something and take the objective, it's extremely hard to deal with.

Southeast Asian Yu Ying.
Vietcongs, Malay Islander, Outlaws and lawkeepers of Bangkok (which is canon).

Avtually quite in interesting.
Related if you dodge and declare your path into a mine LoS, if you suceed the dodge you trigger the mine and dodge it.

Yeah, people try to force it turn one, unnecessary.

Dense tables are a boon for some TAGs, especially those with movement skills like Superjump or Climbing plus.
Even the Yoroi might enjoy it with the koalas.

A Nomads Japanese nationalist resistance force living on a ship they stole from Yu Jing with lots of units named after youkai.

Are we talking generic Oniwaban or Shinobu? The generic Oniwaban is kind of locked in as an alpha striker, but is decently kitted out for the job with a BS on top of the melee skills.

Shinobu requires a bit more finesse, but is ultimately more versatile. Approaching with the sole purpose of getting into melee denying a good amount of her skill set. Smoke allows her to waltz around with impunity unless you opponent has mines or MSV2+. More importantly, it lets her put up that smoke exactly where it will support the rest of the troops. Smoke that TR or missile launcher on overwatch.

She packs a nanopulser. Toss smoke and intuitive fire to use it relatively safely.

She also has a combi rifle. Use that to shoot people in the back. It also allows her to go into suppression, which is a pretty good idea as long as your opponent isn't putting down direct templates.

Save your blade for really choice targets like an HI, TAG, or Lt. Choose and stack those mods appropriately.

That said, often she's better as a threat to keep the big boys in check.

>after youkai
>not after touhous
You had one job.

>Vietcongs
Wouldn't they just be Asian Ariadna?

And user delivered.

Probably more like Asian Acontecimento.

What's the point if they aren't actually Touhous?

The point is being the most weeaboo possible.

Mad over fur , bruh?

Yeah, the program hasn't been updated for a while. Probably going to be updated when the book is actually released, which should be soon, given that the whole thing is now with CB for a final round of checking.

Also, new adventure in the preview folder. Varuna this time.

Mix of acon and ariadna perhaps?

I'd probably say just using MRRF? A board covered with infiltrators, camo tokens and mines, and a metric fuckton of sappers with a heady seasoning of D.E.P. seems pretty in line with a Vietcong army. Moblots are probably the unit that fits the least, unfortunately also being the one with Jungle terrain.

I just rarely see Acon without the real key players being MI Bagh Mari or Sikhs or their HI Guarda and Montessa.

I should go read the book because it seems like sometimes you get a really OP character with the random generator. Tripping into 3 or 4 careers seems to be really powerful in terms of stat gain.

>Tripping into 3 or 4 careers seems to be really powerful in terms of stat gain.
Yeah, you're supposed to have to spend Life Points to do that.

Yeah but I mean you have life points to spend, right?

It's a bug in the chargen app, you're only supposed to gain stats on your first career.

Are there plans to add more faction-specific careers? Right now you have Special Forces which seems to cover just about every troop you might actually play in Infinity, but the actual faction-specific ones like Reverend Agent or Hassassin Fiday (wouldn't just Hassassin Agent fit more?) just seem be sort of random and single.

They're also a little boring. Being a Fiday doesn't really get you anything special, and there's no way AFAICS to end up with Neurocinetics or something as a Reverend. You can score genetic enhancements randomly but I'd sort of expect that to be incorporated into careers, and to play into where you're from and what you do (higher for Bakunin Police for example). If I used these I would definitely heavily modify them as they are now.

Probably in new books. Like we don't have any real stats for TAGs even though pilots are a career.

stop playing the game and start bumping the thread

Bumping with dice tower

Neato.

Question when fighting against Ariadna. Is it normal for them to have a order or so more at points cost? Me and my Haqqislam friend always seem to have significantly fewer orders at even points.

For that matter, how many cheerleaders is enough at 300pts?

I've been tempted to get into Infinity for a while now, but I'm wondering if anyone could give me any help or recommendations? Is it newbie friendly? Thanks in advance.

IMO at 300pts you should no longer really need cheerleaders.

>All the stores that give cheap shipping to your country have the most poorly stocked missmash of minis so you can't ever get what you want in one order.
Fucking Trudeau I swear to fuck.

Buying Operation Red Veil or Operation Icestorm is probably the best way to start if you have someone else to play with. You can split the box/cost and it has scenarios of escalating complexity.

It's a bit overpriced as just some minis + those scenarios if you treat it like a board game (you can get it for about $70 from third parties and I would say an equivalent board game would be like $40, $50? I'm not US so might be getting dollar costs wrong). But you can build from there if you actually like the game and there are worse rip-offs out there. Thankfully you don't need to pay for any additional physical books unless you want to because all the rules are free online, and Infinity has a supported army builder online that's one of the best I've seen for a wargame.

if you buy from your enemies, they win

>tfw ordering infinity from the FLGS takes about three times longer than any other miniature manufacturer

This is what Operation Red Veil (newer one) gets you in terms of miniatures. All these units are usable but once you're playing 300pts or ITS (Infinity Tournament System) official scenarios you probably won't want to be using them all in one list.

Because these are units from two different factions intended for vs. matches it's best if you can split this with someone, both for cost and for learning too.

This is what Icestorm gets you. There will presumably be more of these to cover the other factions in the future.

Happy to talk about the factions featured here if you're interested. If one of the factions you want isn't featured here, then the best way to start is probably to buy a starter pack (basically equivalent to one side of these boxes, minus one miniature) + plus some individual blisters and try to start playing 150pts or 200pts matches with other people.

That is both very interesting and good to know. I would have presumed as points scale goes up, having more orders would trump having addition high cost troopers.

I figured you only need a couple of high power models if you have plenty of orders to feed them. But I'm very new and one of our play group kinda dragged me kicking and screaming to 300 points.

I was somewhat worried about not having picked up any more lower cost troopers for fear of being drowned in cheap orders.

As i understand it, the point at which model A shoots determines the range and cover modifiers. His placement after dodge is part of the declared ARO and not the initial state of the action sequence

>I would have presumed as points scale goes up, having more orders would trump having addition high cost troopers.
>I figured you only need a couple of high power models
I mean yeah people do play like this but it's cancer. Playing ITS all-comers type of thing helps because you need specialists and killing is less important.

I think CB should consider as the game goes forward how they prioritize higher cost models. I hate playing against the "kurwaspam" cheerleader swamp lists but DESU I no longer consider those cheerleaders because they are the list.

Playing Haqq I can end up about 14-15 models without really having any dedicated cheerleader base at all, maybe a couple of Naffatun which I would have anyway to help defend my side of the table.

If you like playing that delivery system kinda list where you run one or two threats and the rest is orders then yeah you should have tons more of cheerleaders.

I'm not a fan of that, and it makes me glad to know I never need to buy another Zanshi. I have the Yu Jing half of red veil, a box of Aragoto and a box of Domoru, and realized that this quickly filled up 300 points, even running just 1 domoru.

Haqq are OP bullshit faction so it makes sense that you don't need cheerleaders just take more fuck broken ghazi for zero points.

>Haqq are OP bullshit faction
lol

I do think outside of sectorials you end up not running a lot of HI.

Ghazi are the most cost effective units in the game and Haqq gets all the tricks like holo too.

Nigga I've been playing Haqq since before Tohaa were around please do not talk to me about which faction gets more for less.

I am sure every player of every faction looks enviously at something another faction gets and feels it is outrageously priced. Ghazi are very good now, sure. I'm sure a lot of people will max them in their lists - they don't really work for the topic we're discussing though because you can't use Ghazi orders to power other units.

>I play Haqq.
Of course you do.

Opinion discarded.

Faction rundown is in the OP

All these flavours, my man.

>Can't look at your faction objectively because you play them.
Sure thing kiddo.

>Ghazi are the most cost effective units in the game
yea-

>and Haqq gets all the tricks like holo too.
nigga everyone gets pretty much all the tricks

Who else gets Doc Plus anyway?

>who else gets the thing that is ACTUALLY the faction signifier
>let's just pretend I wasn't talking about holo before
fuck off you cancerous cunt

>nigga everyone gets pretty much all the tricks
>except this one
You proved yourself wrong no need to go full retard.

Just apologize like a man and move on.

calm down you dumb fuck

Could have sworn the hospitalers and sophotects got it, but I guess I was wrong.

weird CB didn't sprinkle it out a bit more

The only other faction that gets access as far as I know is Bakunin because they get access to Avicenna from Haqq.

Dude, everyone has a thing or two. What do you play that Doctor Plus is worth a post just to incite?

At least in my mind, a good portion of Haqqislam's tactical identity is in fighting dirty (all the illegal ammo) but who do you play that you are acting like its bullshit?
PanO?

>calm down you dumb fuck
Dude is literally
>Ghazi are broken!
>Haqqislam gets holo!
>Haqqislam gets Doc+!
In no case was his point related to the argument being had or his previous point. Anyone who considers that worth posting should just fuck right off out of this thread (which is generally pleasant and helpful).

>cancerous namefag

>autism

Looks like the thread is shit today.
