Stop rolling for stats.
Stop rolling for health.
Stop rolling.
Stop posting Mechanus
Okay, We'll just start using playing cards like they do in prisons
Chromatic dragons in 5E cannot actually shapeshift, turn into humans or do any of that.
They're just dragons, now and forever.
Look at the Monster Manual. Look at it.
It was always like this, wasn't it? Not every dragon can shapeshift
Iimryth can, she's a sorcerer
Also thats metallic dragons dipshit
>Variant: Dragon Spellcasting
>CR 12 or higher dragon can have 4th level spell
>Take polymorph
WotC can't stop my dragons from shapeshifting!
Stop.
And it's better that way.
Fuck bahamut and the metallic dragons. Them and their 'Hurr I can turn into an archmage and stop time forever' bullshit is ridiculous and they should never have existed.
But eventually the dragon will die and it will end, nobody will be any the wiser
Let's speed up the process.
So what? They can if you change the stat block.
A fucking dragon should be dangerous because it's a T-Rex that can fly and breathe fire, not because it's actually an arbitrarily powerful wizard with an intense furry fetish.
What do you mean by this senpai
It's decided then, we kill Bahamut.
How do we fix Sorcerers?
But he'a the good one senpai, why not kill Tiamat instead
Thematic free spells like domain spells.
Accept that they aren't wizards and weren't meant to be wizards and move on
>Bahamut
>Good
More spells known
Spell points
remove metamagic and make them a feat
You aren't the cult of the dragon, are you, senpai?
>friend finds a game where everyone cooperatively creates a world
>wanted to use it to make our next campaign setting
>2 people making high fantasy additions, 1 making dark fantasy, 1 making whimsical fantasy, 1 making a Mary sue demon kingdom, 1 just fucking with people
Never again will I agree to this kind of clusterfuck.
Best class and background for a bounty hunter character?
Any suggestions for why he's traveling with a mostly good party into the Underdark?
Question about reactions: If a player attacks, then says "I will swing my sword at that other goblin when he steps towards me", does he get a free attack outside his turn when the goblin moves? Does it work but cost him his attack next turn? Or does he need multiattack, because you only get one attack otherwise?
Shitty DM stories?
>party is trying to book passage on a ship
>DM spends 5 minutes looking through the PHB to try and find the cost of ship passage because he can't think of a realistic cost off the cuff
>doesn't find anything so he decides to make it 30 (thirty) gp per person for this simple merchant vessel that regularly takes commoners
>our fighter tries to haggle the price down
>DM gives him advantage because he has high Charisma
>rolls a 5 and then a 3
>DM says "nah that's retarded, roll again"
>nat 20
>my face the whole time
He also made us roll Con saves to see if we got scurvy during the trip
Chasing a target who fled underground, found others going down there. It's safer not to go alone
>not bringing lemons to spite him
More like shitty player stories
Monster Hunter Fighter, Deepstalker Ranger and Thief all make sense as bounty hunters. If he's traveling into the Underdark, maybe make him have a family member who ran away down there he's tracking? He could even be a Drow, Duergar or Deep Gnome from the surface and one of his siblings decided to go join their people, who he knows are an evil bunch.
>scurvy
What the fuck, were you sailing for months?
That's pretty tame for a shitty DM.
It didn't even ultimately matter, he didn't impose any consequences on those who failed the Con save
>implying that's shitty when there was a DM that put the price of a barrel of oil at 8000gp or so..Simply because somebody suggested using a barrel of oil instead of a barrel of explosives which apparently costed 8000gp.
>costed
Are you 12?
So i finally settled on a character, gonna go paladin of vengenace splashing a bit into Hexblade.
Question is how should I spread my stats?
I got lucky and started with 18-17-16-14-11-10.
I figured I'd put the 18 in cha and go for a racial +2 so I'd have a load of used of power as well a a whopping +5 hit and damage bonus with my bound sword and Eldrich blast
A fat load of con and decent investment in Wis seems prudent as well.
TLDR:
Start paladin and go for 11 str 14 dex and go medium armour
or
Start 'Lock force myself to take 14 str to MC to Paladin and go Heavy Armour?
I didn't mean shitty along the lines of "being an asshole", I meant more like "isn't good at it/doesn't know how mechanics work". Giving advantage in social situations because the character has high Charisma was probably the dumbest thing, and allowing a reroll on the haggling failures was just cheap. He should've given us a side quest to raise the money or get in the captain's favor or something since we couldn't afford it.
To be fair he confessed that he's not really good at DMing non-combat scenarios and he's afraid to put us in lots of combat because all three of our party is squishy
>rolling for stats
I'm sure it will vary from setting to setting, or even DM to DM, but in general, are Paladins and Clerics allowed to love?
Readying a reaction is action. Thus, if you use Attack action, you cannot react on the other goblin (even if you have more attacks left - you have to use then on your turn).
See PHB, p. 193
Yeah. They are not Jedi.
Some are celibate, most are not.
>lets spellcasters cast cantrips as a bonus action
>wilds animals always fight us to the death even when set on fire
>We were once attacked by a pack (3 - 4) of bears on an open plain
>claimed the 7 int fighter wasn't smart enough to tie a rope to the end of his axe
This is my party. List their classes.
In order left to right
Bard
Rogue
Ranger
Cleric
Barbarian
Wizard
Fighter
>party encounters a young dragon in the forest
>demands a tribute
>we decide to humor it
>some give gold, some give gems
>decide to be creative
>offer it my pocket mirror, so "you can admire yourself whenever you wish"
>burns the mirror and me
Was I retarded or was this a "no fun allowed" kind of ruling from the DM?
Swashbuckler Rogue
Undying Warlock (Blade)
Champion Fighter (Shield Master)
Glamour Bard
Hunter Ranger
Awakened Mystic
Bearbarian (GWM)
Bard
Warlock
Monk
Rogue
Cleric
Wizard
Barbarian
That's fucking funny I love your DM.
well done.
Where can I find this?
OK, I laughed
Are you a sperg?
Sure, why not. I bet some of then are even encouraged to do so.
Depends. I like your style, but i can see see DM's reasoning - some campaigns are "no fun allowed" campaigns.
You should probably talk with him, if it troubles you. Not us.
If I were holding a campaign in a setting without heavy armor (nordic/pre-medieval), how would you compensate heavy armor users (fighters/pallies)?
I was thinking granting them +1 STR and a bonus skill proficiency. (Note there's likely to be no multiclassing.)
That's hilarious. I'd say it was neither really, you tried to be clever and the dragon wanted valuables.
I am on Veeky Forums. What do you think?
Did you have a point or do you just parrot things you hear a lot?
ehh serves me right for trying to be cutsie with an evil dragon I guess.
>claimed the 7 int fighter wasn't smart enough to tie a rope to the end of his axe
Depending on what end of axe it was and how it was ending it might have been a lot harder than you'd think.
>DM gives him advantage because he has high Charisma
This annoys me so much more than it should
If it was that no fun allowed you oughta better have fucking killed it afterwards though. Messing with people is alright, but dues gotta get settled.
refluf other armor as heavy armor, so they could get AC high enough
Well, it might have worked if it was a gem encrusted magical mithril pocket mirror, or the dragon had an INT of 5. Good on ya for trying...
I'd still give you points for trying and a shot at revenge or duping the dragon.
You'd think a dragon would be smart enough to not murder people it could continue to extort every time they pass by. It's not like fish where you either kill and eat them or they get away forever; you can let those adventurers plunder tombs for you and then take all their shit the next time you see 'em. Let 'em live and rob them again.
This is Banditry 101, you stupid fucking dragon.
Depending how he tried to sell it
Flattery towards the dragon might work, it is how Bilbo survived his encounter with Smaug.
So flattery and offering a mirror(relatively rare and valuable object) so dragon might look upon himself every time it wants, might have worked.
I'd order a CHA roll to see how it would react.
>remove metamagic and make them a feat
So sorcerers have to give up an ASI for metamagic? How does this help?
>Rust monster specifies ferrous metal
So why not carry a bronze weapon? Even a simple shortsword
The way I see it, if a dragon tells you to kiss ass you ask how deep. Trying to be cheeky about it won't do anyone any good and even if it could work that would be a damn high DC, like dangerously improbable unless you get a 16-20 probably.
Dragons are vain but they're not that vain to be easily tricked. In my opinion.
Would also give the party a goal for later on when they're higher level to kill said asshole dragon that keeps extorting them each time they were remotely near his territory.
There's few things that motivate players more than getting their stolen shit back.
>daring your DM to bring out Sodium Carbonate Monsters
>starting a wild west game
>inevitably going to have 40 fucking banditos rob the party and leave them for dead in a desert or gulch
>Ask my players if they want to play a western themed game with goblins in wide brimmed hats, plate boots and spurs, cacti and wanted posters, the whole shebang
>They tell me it's stupid
Your friends sound gay. Who would turn down this?
This is how I approached it. Basically started with "Oh my what beautiful scales you have, when was the last time you looked upon yourself?"
We murdered it later on.
Or this?
Or this?
Who the fuck doesn't want to have a TRAIN BOSS BATTLE?
>Your friends sound gay.
It's funny you mention that because he was. And we are not friends anymore, naturally.
If I make a wizard can he use his spell focus like a gun and "shoot" people with spells by quickly drawing it and firing a spell off, then sheathing it again?
>duel at high noon, roll a sleight-of hand check to see who draws your wand fastest
What said
Who would say no to western goblins in little wide brimmed hats or warforged bounty hunters (depending on your preferences)
Heck, I even have a cowboy shawl lined with behir hide to absorb lightning damage on my ranger that was made to go toe to toe with a necromancer that had powerful lightning magic in his arsenal.
youtube.com
>you will never play a half-orc barbarian and Chingachgook the white man with a gunstock warclub
The ideal standoff roll is Initiative + Wis + Cha/Str. The draw ain't just about how fast you are, but how much you can unnerve your opponent and force his hand.
This also prevents dexmonkeys from being the only guys capable of competing.
>If I make a wizard can he use his spell focus like a gun and "shoot" people with spells by quickly drawing it and firing a spell off, then sheathing it again?
Uhh.. I'm pretty sure that's a basic requirement of wizards already, buddy.
I was debating having magical, or mechanically intricate and thus rare revolvers, relics of a lost age, only few in working condition. Ammo would be rare especially, perhaps reloading wouldn't even cross people's minds, you had six shots and that was it, meaning you would only pull it out in the most dire position, also justifying their high damage.
I just made magically-powered gauss guns and gave 'em bow damage.
People are still running around with full plate and swords for a reason. That, and I hate the whole "this thing is rare so it's hyper-powerful but you also have to build your character around it" shit.
Reposting, in case someone wants to answer
Is Facing optional DMG rule useful in your experience? As I see it, the thing might actually speed up combat if there are more than 2 melee left on one of the sides.
stat me
>That, and I hate the whole "this thing is rare so it's hyper-powerful but you also have to build your character around it" shit.
Totally I feel you, totally. But I don't think there would be any requirements, other than the standard ranged weapon requirements. Essentially in equal power to current magical items.
The way I imagined it was like this, the man's got a sword, that's his problem solver. Now the iron on his hip, that's for when he gets in trouble.
Sunless Citadel has shatterspike, a magical sword that is wielded by Sir Braford. It has the property that impacts on objects are guaranteed crits and even says that he attempts to destroy the party's weapons
But I don't see any rule for attacking weapons and destroying them. I know objects have hp but how do I determine whether or not he hits the weapon.
Also how should I foreshadow this?
Would running a double shield EK be viable or would my party hate me for it?
>Also how should I foreshadow this?
A big pile of broken weapons.
Probably broken weapons and armor strewn about.
You can't technically benefit from wearing two shields but what the hell go ahead do it, just make sure to pick shield master, tavern brawler and warcaster thank god you're a fighter
What's the point of two shields?
The best you could do is if your DM houserules that using two shields with the two-weapon-fighter feat gives an extra +1 AC from the feat, but then you might as well go shield+rapier and it'd be the same +1 AC if the shield is a weapon.
Also, you don't really help the team by being hard to hit. It just gives enemies even less reason to attack you and even more reason to fuck the rest of the party over.
Is there a homebrew system for crafting mundane items?
You need 13 str to multi in or out
What about actually rolling to hit the equipment? Just standard chance to hit ignoring armor AC? That seems fitting but very harsh
Maybe at disadvantage?
It is stupid.
Dual Wielder, too.
Your shields are now improvised melee weapons. Since you have two, you get +1 AC. Now take your shields to a smithy and get them bladed and/or spiked so they are 1d6 improvised weapons.
Dual-wielding 1d6 weapons with +3 AC isn't the worst thing in the world, especially when you can keep people on their asses. Then utilize this SECRET TECHNIQUE:
>knock enemy down
>squat on their chest
>grapple with your legs
>proceed to beat them in the face with your shield all day
Works better on a Battlemaster because you can do it all in one round with a Trip Attack for the KD -> bonus Grapple.
1d4 improvised weapon
