There are many cheaper options than Bahamas. Some tax havens have donation programs also, which are cheaper than the invest-for-citizenship programs. The usual is about a $100k donation to a government fund, and you're granted permanent residency.

Well if assuming you make the 500k investment that is gains that you need to cash in and that get taxed (assuming your home country taxes are high) and then the cost of living on Nassau is some of the highest anywhere. So you need to have enough for it to be worth it - with smaller sums maybe worth to move somewhere you can get residency without paying anything and that has a low tax (10%)
3M was just the amount I would personally do it for the 0% tax - so 2,5M after buying a home
