Eh. It's a reasonably neat setting but the writers are very...left. And it shows. The system is alright if a bit lackluster but really it's the setting that people come to EP for

In what ways?

Thanks this is awesome.

The setting is nice, but the devs insist a bit too much on anarcho-communism.
Other than that it's a good game, the second edition is supposed to come in august with a more streamlined character creation (the open playtest is free on drivethrurpg).

In the latest version they removed one of the major factions because they didn't want people to play fascists.

Wait, did they remove the Jovians or whatever they were called? To what extent?

thats fucking lame. making an entire arc of facists out of spite now.

They removed the Jovians?

Yeah, 2e is self-inflicted idiocy from a perceived backlash towards their beliefs.

I wish the Ghost in the Shell conversion was completed/updated...

The Ultimates, not the Jovians.

In that case, are the Jovians still being used as a general scapegoat for the authors to take all of their real life frustrations on?

That's literally wrong though

The politics in EP are like "muh deep, character driven stories" in WoD. Everyone besides the writers ignores them and just fucks around with superpowers.

Then what's the literal truth?

They got removed from the basic list of factions, which is pretty meaningless because a faction is just a motivation and 1 skill now because people kept fucking them up. The devs made a vaguely snarky comment which *triggered* foolish people on the internet though.

From what I read, some positive light has shone towards them. The big bogeymen are now the Ultimates.

Who were the Ultimates?

PMC philosopher kings that want to steal the solar system's wormholes

A shit game for shit people.

Also a ripoff of Transhuman Space with psi and a lot of tumblr and angst added.

>A shit game for shit people.
Well shit user, care to explain why?

yeah seems pretty fun to me with a lot of room for fun ideas to play around with.

The issue with both settings from a tech level and politics perspective is that Transhuman Space tries to much to play it safe on both fronts, resulting in setting that is in a word, beige at first sight, but inoffensive and somewhat nuanced on further inspection
(ie the Japanese aid workers that drop in from orbit). Eclipse Phase on the other hand, goes a bit nuts on both fronts which leads to a setting that is very interesting, but has a) way too much going on, or b) is too damn political (all the metaplot hooks that will inevitably go to waste, early Jovians). You can see a similar problem with Degenesis

tl;dr TS is hard to get into, but has a lot of interesting potential for campaigns on further inspection, while EP is has a better hook, but can sometimes get bogged down in its craziness.

If they didn't want people to play fascists they shouldn't have made them so interesting

And that is why Im ignoring the dumb "ultimates are an X-Threat" metaplot thats happening and replacing them with Rortrians.
