What is a good name for a spooky forest?

what is a good name for a spooky forest?

Depends on what types of spooks are in this spooky forest.

Hmmm. How about Wraithwood?

The Pines

The grimwyrd

The Shrouded Wood

Spooky McSpookwood

The Spooky Forest

The Shivering Leafs

The Shaking Twigs

Leafy Pines

Bloodbriar forest. The further you go in, the more bloody the plants become. Some walk about the fringes, or even harvest from it, though they do not live long. None have seen the pulsing heart at its center, guiding all life within to its private aims.

The Gyrating Branches

The Cemetery of Leaves

Ol' Wyrmwood's Haunt

The Spinning Shrubs

Ambergrove or Azurecopse.

Gallowood.

Nicewood

The BLACKED Forest

Winner right here, came to this thread solely to agree with this.

What things could you find in a spooky forest?

Ghostly Glade
Phantom Pines
Wicked Woods
Terrible Trees
Deadwood

A perfect, shining blade, surrounded by rot and foulness.

It doesn't have a name, villagers in the region all just refer to it as "the wood" and don't want to talk about it
It's marked as the local lord's hunting ground on some maps, but hasn't been used for that or maintained in decades

Aokigahara

The Rolling Thorns

how did he kill himself twice?

Tom Bombadil

>seriously now, Old Forest is the creepiest part of the book

They're different bodies.

That's the spooky part

Could be used in a campaign, making the same hanged dude appear in different parts of the forest as the party explores. Would need more backstory and a purpose, though.

A strange collection of twisted roots and leaves, resembling some kind of altar or gravestone. The fading sunlight dances across it, making shadows that look like scrabbling limbs.

I vaguely recall that in The Divine Comedy the suicides were stuck hanging around on one circle of hell and could only speak when cut. I'd make it so that if the players drew his blood he would act as an oracle and warn of the dangers ahead of them. Let them grow to trust The Hanged Man and rely on his knowledge wherever he appears in the forest. Then have things go badly. Maybe there are other corpses that appear helpful at first but will attack them. Maybe spilling all that blood draws something evil out. Maybe his spirit doesn't appreciate having its rest interrupted so often. Maybe it never was helpful and was just something waiting to lead them into a trap. Maybe the next body they see hanging is one of them, the one who usually take it upon himself to make the cut on the oracle.

The thing about the suicides in Inferno was that they weren't hanging on trees, they were trees. Those who died of self violence were turned into trees who could only speak when a mouth was cut into their bark. They were in the circle of Violence I think, the one with the blood river.

Pic related had an interesting take on it.
