A dark chronicle of bionic souls

How would one go about developing a Bionicle X Dark Souls setting?

Do you literally have nothing else to go on other than "I like x, I like y so I'll slam the two together"?

That's so much fucking lore
Uhhhhhh
Mata Nui was a giant who linked the fire and gave up his own body to become Lordran

Somebody post Lost Source

why the fuck no, though

Someone fill me in on Dark Souls lore.

In the begining there was no disparity. Everything was grey, everything was immortal and unchanging. Dragons ruled the land and gigantic arch trees dominated the landscape. Then fire appeared from nowhere and introduced disparity. Heat and cold. Life and death. Light and dark. Humanoid beings devoid of souls emerged from the darkness ans claimed souls from the fire. Lord Gwyn claimed the Light Soul and split it among his silver knights. Nito, First of the Dead claimed the Death Soul. The Witch of Isolith and her Sisters of Chaos claimed the Life Soul and invented pyromancy. The Furtivd Pygmy, small and easily forgotten, claimed the Dark Soul and quietly hid it away, splitting the soul and distributing it as much as he could. To this day each human contains a little piece lf the Dark Soul inside himself. The other three Lords made war with the Everlasting Dragons, and won when Seath the Scaleless betrayed his own and revealed the dragons' weakness to lightning. Gwyn and his knights rained lightning upon the dragons, the Witch of Isolith and her Daughters summoned huge firestorms to consume them, and Nito unleashed a miasma of death upon them. When the dragons were no more, the Age of Fire began. But now, the Fire fades. The curse of Undeath is seen amongst the humans, and Lord Gwyn has long sjncd sacrificed himself and his soul to preserve his Age of Fire. Now there are only embers. You are one Undead of many, locked in the Undead Asylum to await the end of the world. But a man, a knight of Astora, gave you the key to your cell and told you a prophecy from his land: "Thou who art undead art chosen...In thine exodus from the Undead Asylum, maketh pilgrimage to the land of Ancient Lords... When thou ringeth the Bell of Awakening, the fate of the Undead thou shalt know."

here you go.

no progress at all since the threads dried up.

It's spelled "Izalith," but that's a pretty decent summary otherwise.

I fucking wouldn't.

AND wuath about bioneclse?

ITs literally just the monologue from the opening cutscene

That's TEN WHOLE ARCS.
EXCLUDING THE EU CANON.
And G2, but G2 doesn't really have any lore...
It makes the Silmarillion look like child's play.

Shit idea

bionicle is literally deepest lore: the kid's product
it would be difficult enough to do a game on it by itself

Also combining those two is dumb and you should feel dumb, but whatever

>Reading the entirety of Bionicle Souls lore accurately replicates the effects of having your mind Hollowed out by sheer time. Thankfully for the world as a whole, no human being will ever live long enough to read ALL of it.

>really cool idea
>D100, modeled on DH

Into the trash it goes.

it's classic autism tho
where do you think sonichu came from?
OP needs to realize that you can't just combine two inspirations to be creative, you have to have at least 10 different sources of inspiration mixed together so much it's pureed. That is how one can be truly creative and respected.

it already exists. the red star recovery system. just fix the teleporter, and have 6 canisters wash up on the sandy beaches of telsadora, or crash into lordran. make bonfires manual taps into the star.

Like a setting drawing from both or an actual crossover?

Red Star as the recovery system is an excellent idea.

it is, jut broken in the story. all dead, non mangled, charactors, get revived and trapped on the station.

Except Matoro.
And any Makuta who get incinerated.

I had no better option at the time.

do you have a suggestion?

>Bionicle X Dark Souls setting?
Wh-what? Why?! This is some fanfiction-tier autism here.

This turned out pretty cool, shame it died out before it could be ironed out. Most of the things in this doc are just brainstorming.

supposedly there were even playtesters.

the core system and the impact/staggering system got an actually fair bit of work.

> my Childhood + teenage years in one setting
It'd be fucking complex, with half the internet dedicated to storing, unraveling, and analysing the lore, although come to think of it they both emphasize dying worlds.
Giant robot created by the ancient ones, sustained by a magical flame in the centre, burning on souls. The giant robot was injured somehow, and is now dying. The fire in his core is burning low, and the pcs job is to fight their way to the core and rekindle it by sacrificing themselves. And then, you know, robot zombies are worked in their somehow. I'm thinking 40K servitors.

literally anything else?
2d6+stat works well, along with roll (skill)d6 and take (stat) highest. D100 is too granular to be of any use to anyone.

It really depends on how many stacking bonuses you want to be possible. For fewer than 3, you want the 2d6, and for more skill-stat pools work well.

i said non mangled.

>2d6+stat
I don't know anything that runs that system...

I picked a system that looked easy to bash into that setting around. it worked so I kept running with it.

then I got playtesters and actually started doing a bit of balance work.

Robots lose sapient and get stuck in fight mode if yhey don't get regular maintenance

You do you I guess

Nah, is actually a more lore-spoilery adaptation of it, though it does read close enough that it's easy to dismiss as the opening and tl;dr it. Here's the original, for reference:

In the Age of Ancients the world was unformed, shrouded by fog. A land of gray crags, Archtrees and Everlasting Dragons. But then there was Fire and with fire came disparity. Heat and cold, life and death, and of course, light and dark. Then from the dark, They came, and found the Souls of Lords within the flame. Nito, the First of the Dead, The Witch of Izalith and her Daughters of Chaos, Gwyn, the Lord of Sunlight, and his faithful knights. And the Furtive Pygmy, so easily forgotten.

With the strength of Lords, they challenged the Dragons. Gwyn's mighty bolts peeled apart their stone scales. The Witches weaved great firestorms. Nito unleashed a miasma of death and disease. And Seath the Scaleless betrayed his own, and the Dragons were no more.

Thus began the Age of Fire. But soon the flames will fade and only Dark will remain. Even now there are only embers, and man sees not light, but only endless nights. And amongst the living are seen, carriers of the accursed Darksign.

Yes, indeed. The Darksign brands the Undead. And in this land, the Undead are corralled and led to the north, where they are locked away, to await the end of the world... This is your fate.

Only, in the ancient legends it is stated, that one day an undead shall be chosen to leave the undead asylum, in pilgrimage, to the land of ancient lords, Lordran.

Metru Nui = Anor Londo?

I'm not that well-versed in the Bionicle lore, but:
>In the Age of Ancients the world was unformed, shrouded by fog. A land of gray crags, protodermis and Makuta. But then there was Energized Protodermis, and with energy came disparity. Heat and cold, life and death, and of course, light and dark. Then from the dark, They came, and found the Masks of Power within the Energized Protodermis. Vezon, the First of the Dead; the Bahrag and their Bohrok; Mata Nui, the Lord of Sunlight, and his faithful Toa. And the Furtive Krahka, so easily forgotten.
>With the strength of the Kanohi, they challenged the Makuta. Mata Nui's mighty bolts peeled apart their protodermis armor. The Bohrok swarms were unending in their assault. Vezon unleashed a miasma of death and disease. And Teridax the Unarmored betrayed his own, and the Makuta were no more.
>Thus began the Age of Energized Protodermis. But soon the energy will fade and only Dark will remain. Even now there are only flickerings, and Matoran sees not light, but only endless inertia. And amongst the living are seen, carriers of the accursed Darksign.
>Yes, indeed. The Darksign brands the Undead. And in this land, the Undead are corralled and led to the north, where they are locked away, to await the end of the world... This is your fate.
>Only, in the ancient legends it is stated, that one day an undead shall be chosen to leave the undead asylum, in pilgrimage, to the land of ancient lords, Metru Nui.

Replace Vezon, the Bahrag and the Bohrok with Karzahni and the "remade" Matoran, Mata Nui and the Toa with Artahka and the Order of Mata Nui, Teridax with Miserix or Krika.

Instead of Bonfires, it's whatever the power source is for the Toa.
>boss fight that starts out like abyss watchers, but because of bionicle combo shenanigans, ends like Yhorm or the Dark-eater

In the time before time there was a planet ruled by a race of Scientist Kings, the Great Beings. Their subjects were a race known as the Agori, workers small in stature, with some aberrant mutants who were much larger and stronger. There were some other related species, but the Agori were the main population. Anyways the Great Beings were was more interested in their experiments and personal projects than actually ruling their idiot subjects, so they create these genetically engineered beings, the Elemental Lords to govern the various tribes, who all had elemental themes. Eventually a bizare substance, that we'll refer to as Energized Protodermis was found. It had incredible qualities, and was coveted greatly by both the Great Beings and the Elemental Lords. The Elemental Lords ended up fighting a massive war over the stuff, while the Great Beings fucked off to use it to create a titanic robot with an entire self-contained world inside of it, using this new substance to synthesize a range of materials (Protodermis).

Because of the overmining and disturbance of the energized protodermis within the planet, there's a massive natural disaster and the planet splits apart. There are survivors on some of the bigger pieces, but there is massive environmental collapse killing almost everyone. Meanwhile the Great Beings send their robot, Mata Nui, off into space to explore the cosmos. (cont)

Explaining the complete history of the Mata Nui universe would be way too long, so I'll try and control my autism. So from the point of view of the residents of Mata Nui:

In the time before time, the Great Beings created the Matoran, a race of builders and laborers. Small in stature but bold in spirit and hard workers (based on the Agori). Matoran poses the potential to become Toa, larger warriors or great power, and Turaga, wise elders with greater capacity for recalling old times. People don't age in this universe like in ours, they don't reproduce and die, they just sort of go along, and history slowly fades in their minds, as the millennia go by. These Matoran are divided into various elemental tribes, and are distributed in population throughout the whole universe, and are the sole inhabitants of Metru Nui, the an island city in the far north, the greatest hub of power and technology. The Matoran worked in the dark, their minds unformed, building the world they would live in, these memories being dark flashes deep in the back of their mind.

There were other races created by the Great Beings as well. Some wide spread performing important functions throughout the universe, others were smaller experiments. All were larger and more powerful than the humble Matoran. Most important of these were the Makuta. The Makuta were practically made in the Great Being's own image, and were easily the most powerful and intelligent of the races. They were charged with a certain degree of supervision, and primarily given the task of creating life, an ability no others in the universe had. Using various chemicals and mutating viruses, the Makuta were able to create many species of life. Life created by the Makuta were known as Rahi. Unlike the creates of the Great Beings, these mostly weren't intelligent, though some were.

(cont)

Very quickly things started to go bad. Wars and battles were fought between tribes, criminals appeared, warlords rose up. Early efforts to fight these groups were fought by a band of warriors known as The Hand of Artahka, though this itself fell into infighting and tyranny, and eventually disbanded. Later, a much more secret organization would form to replace it, the Order of Mata Nui, who operated behind the scenes to try and do good for the sake of the universe, slowly growing in power.

Through most of the universe, south of Metru-Nui, things were governed by six rulers, from six different species, who cooperated as the Leage of Six Kingdoms. As the millennia went by, they grew more and more bold and powerhungry, standing in opposition to the Brotherhood of Makuta, and forcibly expanding their territory and forming a totalitarian coalition. Eventually the Brotherhood stepped in and fought a long war with the Leage of Six Kingdoms, which they eventually won thanks to an informant among their ranks.

With a newly created power vacuum, the Brotherhood of Makuta recognized the need for more direct governance over the population. They divided the territory of the universe up amongst themselves, various Makuta ruling over territories. Metru Nui was given to Makuta Teridax, the highly intelligent and secretive lieutenant to Miserex, the Leader of the Brotherhood, who was so renowned within the brotherhood that he had been awarded the coveted Mask of Shadows, considered the symbol of the Brotherhood itself. While most Makuta chose to rule openly and directly, Teridax, as the Makuta of Metru Nui, remained in the shadows, rarely making his presence known. Almost no one outside of the brotherhood even knew his name. (cont)

As time went on, and the Makuta took a more active rule, Teridax studied the way of the universe, and learned of it's nature, the nature of Mata Nui and the inner workings that made their reality work. With this knowledge, he concocted a plan. He staged a coup within the Brotherhood, overthrowing Miserex. After slowly putting every element of his plan in place, making sure nothing could go wrong, he then enacted a plan overthrowing Metru Nui, putting all of the population into stasis, which severely harmed the functioning of Mata Nui, putting him into a deep slumber. Mata Nui crashed to a nearby planet, causing a great cataclysm within the universe. Over the next 1000 years the universe itself would slowly be dying, falling apart with Mata Nui rendered a helpless god.

The Matoran from Metru Nui were rescued by their team of six Toa. They were brought through a series of strange, labyrinthine tunnels, which no one had ever known existed before. Eventually, after a great voyage, the Toa found themselves on a strange, massive, tropical island which none had ever heard of. Most curiously, it was surrounded by a bizarre sea that didn't seem to be made of Protodermis. There were infact standing above the face of Mata Nui, disguised by automatic camouflage systems, having crashlanded on an ocean world, one of the fragments of the original planet of his creation.

These Toa brought all Matoran from Metru Nui to this new island paradise, naming it in honor of Mata Nui himself, and sacrified their exitance as Toa, becoming Turaga, to awaken the Matoran from slumber. Here they lived for 1000 years, the Matoran having lost all memory of a life before this. But they were not alone, the Makuta of Metru Nui had followed them, and tormented them often, biding his time. (cont)

Eventually, six new Toa were launched out of the sea, and washed ashore. Though unknown to any of them, they were launched as an emergency in case of any great risk to Mata Nui's well being, but their launch was purposefully delayed for 1000 years by the Makuta.

These Toa fought the Makuta on the island, before the discovery of the prophesied Toa of Light. The Makuta of Metru Nui feigned defeat, and lured the Matoran back to their homeland of Metru Nui. They set to work repairing the ruins of the city, but the Turaga found grave news there. After 1000 years of slumber, Mata Nui was dying. Ancient texts described a legendary Mask of Life, which could be used to revive Mata Nui. The toa set off to retrieve the mask, but failed. A band of six matoran set off to help, becoming Toa themselves along the way. They did eventually find the mask, and one of them, Matoro, sacrificed his life to use it, reviving the great spirit just as he was finally dying.

The toa who had initially failed the retrieve the mask, the Toa Nuva, now set about finally finishing their destiny, and reviving Mata Nui to full health and consciousness. They delved deep into the universe, finding Karda Nui, Mata Nui's heart, a massive energy chamber. Using the Mask of Life, they were able to essentially jump start Mata Nui.

This was the final step in Teridax's great plan. He had infiltrated deep below Metru Nui, to the inner working's of Mata Nui's head. When the Mata Nui had briefly died not long ago, The Makuta slipped into his mind and waited. Now, the body of the Great Spirit being revived by the Mask of Life, Makuta Teridax had put himself in place of Mata Nui, and became god to this universe. He forced the mind and spirit of Mata Nui into the Mask of Life and ejected him out into space. He eradicated all other Makuta from the universe. He shaped the stars into his image and delivered his message to the masses. He was the universe, he was god.

Please God no we don't need this.
