I disagree. When you react to something new, you're not thinking about how you reacted to similar things in the past, especially when there are no similar things. You have inclinations and urges and desires that are independent, or at least were at some point in your life, of any prior experience that you could have any memory of. You're not remembering how you feel at any given time, you're actually feeling it. Your explicit thoughts might be largely shaped by your memories (at least in certain senses) of your previous explicit thoughts and experiences, but you are not just your explicit thoughts.
