Acceptable, or is it just furry bullshit? Any characters you have played in the past, or concepts you'd like to try? Do you enjoy a group with a kobold in the party, or is the whole trend irksome?
More in a roleplay sense than mechanical or system-wise.

What the fuck?

My group tends to view kobolds as off-brand goblins so I don't see a problem with it.
Noah Lewis
Kobolds are great, man--you just need to be ready to play them as a character who's a little off-center. Played one in a campaign with a revenant Paladin and a human Warlock who got his powers from the Wendigo he was possessed by, and was friends with both. He fucking hated Wizards but his definition of "wizard" was sketchy at best. He was Good in essence but as a kobold saw nothing wrong with things like sacrificing enemy combatants to fuel rituals, because they had been trying to murder his people, which was his number one priority always.
I'm hoping to play a Kobold sharpshooter in the future.
Levi Perez
People have been fapping to kobolds at an alarming rate for a while now.
I really want to do a kobold trapper in 5e. I feel like the best bet would be arcane trickster with the magic initiate feat to get Thorn Whip for a little extra trappiness. Maybe with some artificer thrown in? Lots of koltrops, capturing small poisonous vermin in jars, oil and fire, etc.
Bentley Torres
Kobold psychic is rad
Andrew Ortiz
Scalies are a sub-genre of furries. So are whatever bird-people are called. The point is they're all animal-humans
Bentley Mitchell
>Acceptable, or is it just furry bullshit? Yes.

I've player a kobold years ago. The character dreamt of becoming a dragon, and was convinced that kobold turned into dragons once they had enough treasure.
He ended up becoming a hero because it was the easiest way to get treasure and be loved by everybody, thus attracting more treasure. He was a fun addition to the party.
T'was 3.5, and just for the hell of it, I rolled a Fighter. He was a high AC pain in the ass for a few levels. Campaign never got past level 5 though.
So yeah, it can be done.
Cooper Scott
It depends entirely on setting. In settings where they aren't exotic or remarkable, they're one of my favorite Small races because they come with so much less baggage.
Special snowflake characters in an inappropriate setting always stink on ice regardless of stat block.
Brayden James
We have reached a point where kneejerk anti furry shit has become equal to or greater than actual furry degeneracy. It's like how everyone vaguely left wing was a communist back in the 70s, now everything that's not a brown-haired, chiseled human fighter is a furry.
Lincoln Torres
>I want to play a kobold >Let me ask on the Inuit Bonecarving Board if I'm allowed to Do you even realize how pathetic you sound?

Currently playing a Kobold in a D&D 5e homebrew setting. Kobolds were once fairly low on the food chain, and so developed a sort of camouflage / cargo cult behaviour to survive. "Civilised" kobolds assemble themselves in things that sort of look like towns if you don't look too hard, based on a fairly loose understanding of how civilised things behave. "Wild" kobolds follow the same sort of trend, but try to emulate beasts and monsters to scare off other things.
Ian Williams
The problem is mostly Koboldfags desu. I don't have anything against Kobolds.
>hey guys is this an unrelated thread OH OOPS IT'S ABOUT KOBOLD CIRCLEJERK NOW >what, we should make our own thread? But it'll get flooded with porn! >Oh, hey, kobold thread, LET'S FLOOD IT WITH PORN! >It's not really porn if dick is cropped, right? >Monstergirls (and generally anything slightly different from baseline) are furries! Furries are terrible! We're not furries! >Kobolds are regarded as weak but their pluck lets them win against all odds all the time! All the time! ALL. THE. TIME!
Camden Jackson
>Kobolds are regarded as weak but their pluck lets them win against all odds all the time! All the time! ALL. THE. TIME!
Presumably that's only acceptable when it's HFY.
Jackson Hill
Accept all races you dumb piece of shit, a bad player is bad regardless of race. Also FUCKING THIS
Adam Cook
No, it's never acceptable.
Angel Edwards
That is beyond ridiculous
John Diaz
We keep having a kobold paladin who might as well be a midget mexican battle-priest. Only one party member understands them, they yell what essentially means "me smash evil thing!" and go apeshit at the sight of evil, they run off to pray when they're nervous, and they're tiny with oversized armor that almost has them almost at their weight limit while in combat. Overall it's pretty silly and fun to have around.
Lincoln Watson
Kobold furporn is just a meme, they don't even give a shit about Ecology, and probably never read a single splatbook in their worthless lives. It's the same as any pornographic trend.
When D&D dragons get their fucking racial tags on e621, then we know the furfaggots are giving a shit.
Elijah Watson
I would be so down for a Kobolds Fuck Yeah thread
Eli Lee
Whenever I hear shit like this I immediately assume the person talking about furry or anime bullshit is projecting.
Noah Perez
I made lil' kobold guy once. He was a soulknife with a plit personality... basically a normal cowardly kobold that had become possessed by the mind of a great hero, to his misfortune.
The "knife" was a manifestation of said hero's power.
I never got to play him much since PBP games have a tendency to die.
David Murphy
It depends on the setting, but generally I've always liked Kobolds as dragon servants. Whether the dragon ignores them, abuses them, uses them like a tool, or actually cares about their community, they serve regardless, fortifying areas with traps and generally obstructing attempts to reach the dragon. They also sometimes just blindly guessing what would please their perhaps uncaring "overlord" if not given any direction.
I'd like to play a kobold that decided it was wrong that other races don't pay homage to dragons and set out to conquer everything in his dragon lord's name, but leave it to the DM whether or not my character is even slightly correct in assuming this would please the dragon.
Mason Bailey
I'm sure it can be done well, but in my personal experience as a dm every (all two) times it's come up the player actually was a furfaggot trying to get his fap on and making a really shitty character in the process, so I don't allow non core races anymore without a lot of convincing
Leo Peterson
Kobolds are shit, either played as a joke or by an autist with an underdog fetish
Dominic Wright
>The problem is mostly Koboldfags desu. So, like most of the animosity towards anthropomorphic animal races, it's something mainly contained to Veeky Forums that you would almost never encounter if you just shut off the computer occasionally? Seriously, is completely right about this. I almost never see people get so upset about furries in actual public gaming spaces, and the few I did were so enthralled with reddit-tier memes they wouldn't have been someone I'd ever invite to my table again anyway.
Ryder Smith
Youd be surprised just what you can find on e621.

HFY material is almost universally awful schlock, but it's pretty amusing how its very existence pisses off furfags so much. Hell, HFY threads basically haven't even existed in any serious capacity for like a year and you still have furries whining about it.
