The fact that it's practical effects and a lot of them is what sold me. I fucking hate the overabuse of CGI.

It seems to be about cops saving the world so I'd say it's missing a central element of the shadowrun appeal.

I'd also like to add that I like how Will Smith's character was all "the races are all different but nobody's better than anyone else" then turns right into "welp dat diversity hire doe". I was actually very proud of them for doing that; it would have been easy to go all "oh but he black; he know the struggle is real" instead of knowing that it'd dam well be about humanocentrism and not "i know your pain man". It makes the issue far more real and realistically handled. I kind of wish it were a series instead of a movie, honestly.

I think it's a "reader relation" issue. There's also the notion that for a society to actually work, there's some basic checkmarks that need to happen before the word go. Now, morality is actually NOT one of those, so don't get your panties in a bunch. But for a society to happen, people have to be able to work together, and there have been all kinds of societies. Orcs might end up something more akin to Sparta, which would be a society we couldn't even DREAM of living in today, so it'd be completely alien to us, even though it's something humanity did. Basing humanoid culture and society on humans is because well, we're human, so it's a stepping-off point to understanding said culture. It makes it more relatable. If you make a culture super-alien, you'll have people that think that's cool, but most people will balk at it and just pass it by, or do their own thing which may ruin the subject matter.

Although he has a point. Fury Road was all practical effects, but it was also almost all CGI as well. CGI does work best when it's not noticed, and you don't notice crappy effects if the movie is good.

What is orcish morality and culture and how is it alien to humans? I mean humans have a very large range of behaviors; several of our cultures would seem "inhuman" were they viewed by another sufficiently different human culture.

I mean, they're just shallow stand ins for generic savage cultures, so anything that was considered uncivilized primitives a good 300-400 years ago can be looked at now to see where it'd wind up.

Integration into human culture is really bad for orcs. Dominating humans is too easy and they quickly lose interest in partners of their own race, eventually they get absorbed into the larger human population and die out.

Humans being easy to dominate might make them less desirable as mates for women from orc cultures that greatly value strength in men, which would seem in-character for the race.

Depends on how lazy they are. Human men are easy, and they hit all the sexual characteristics. When attractive fuckboys are so easy to get it becomes hard putting in the effort for seducing a properly orcy partner. Initially, (all) Orcs buy into the macho bullshit that's being advertised on every screen you can see. Axe body spray sales would triple overnight, and the fraternity needs to compete with an orc bro who can crush a keg with his head.

Human-influenced Orc culture would start branching out. Female Orcs catch the "fight like a girl" punk scene, and a few male Orcs get in on leather daddy fashions. Over time, Orcs would adapt to more "human" ways of expressing power, such as conspicuous consumption.

Human culture wouldn't be untouched, of course. Gun nuts have another boogieman to justify even larger rifles, not realizing an Orc could buy one just as easily. Everyone buys into the Charles Atlas fantasy a little more. Music influenced by Orc folk tales (often performed by Orc bands) makes a huge splash in the rock and metal scenes.

The better question is, why are Orks even a Minority in the first place? If anything, integrated culture would have at least as many Orks as humans, with elves and dwarfs being the rare ones
