>What is Malifaux? Malifaux is a 32mm Skirmish Tabletop game, with a focus on completing several different objectives, while denying your opponent their objectives
Play her as a strong black woman, who don't need no man.
Landon Torres
Roger that.
Cooper Reyes
use here with performers to lure in squishy masters and healers. smash their faces
Hunter Clark
As the world's biggest rushing tar pit.
Take a full cache and Challenge the Crowd, and possibly Frontline Leadership or Iron Determination. Also consider Imbued Protection or something. Use Blood Mage to triple-push the Nemesis Mage up the board, then use the Doom Mage to shove Toni up to the Nemesis Mage, use him to shove her into the enemy crew. Activate Toni, gain piles of Adrenaline and start You Lookin' At Me-ing everything you can, especially scheme runners and weak shit.
Next turn, activate Toni, gain piles of Adrenaline and start punching motherfuckers.
As an added bonus, if you are about to be Nekima'd, you can Rush 'Em to safety within a pile of obstructing dickheads that you can then paste with all your Adrenaline.
Laugh as they burn the whole crew's activations to kill her end of Turn 2, while your entire crew has taken position to hold the objectives and rain Elemental Bolts and shit on them, having had all their positional plans fucked for two full turns.
Dylan Harris
Thanks guys. I'm mainly buying her box for the Oxfordians (Captain's cool too) for Sandeep, but I figure I might as well try her.
Jose Phillips
I think she's a .lot. better at killing bunches of weak modles, and especially holding them in place, than she is at single-target damage, even with the Follow Through trigger.
Challenge The Crowd is ++flips to Df, her Brass Knuckles get +flips to disengaging strikes, Frontline Leadership puts up a Barbaros-like bubble where they have to move towards her, and none of her attack triggers specify "same target". AND her (now) built-in Df Trigger gets you a 2/3/4 hit back and Adrenaline+1.
Grayson Diaz
So for the july errata they said they would be looking at four models in particular. Bets on which those are?
Naturally Wind Gamin, with them hoping that means they can leave Sandeep alone, I'm hoping stuffed piglets because freely hireable 2 SS models just shouldn't be in this game, and maybe have a go at giving some weaker masters something extra. Brewmaster, Yan, Kaeris.
Jeremiah Walker
Wind Gamin, Stuffed Piglets, Ashes & Dust and... Hamelin? Nihilists generally? I dunno, but those are the ones Twavis Reyforth and other famous loudmouths have been publicly railing against.
Levi James
What specifically about A&D is catching complaints? I only ask because he has a lot going for him.
Chase Morales
I think it's just that he's pretty easy to render unkillable, and has good damage output.
He's also one of the most expensive models in the game though, so that seems fair-ish.
Chase Adams
I'd never noticed that Dust Storm has a 6ss cost. Why? Is there a way to get them without A&D?
Been a good run of Malifaux threads lately.
Tyler Butler
Doesn't one of the schemes take ss cost into consideration when killing things?
Andrew Miller
It does make him a valid anchor for Hollow Waifs.
Cameron Collins
Vendetta did, that's a good point. It's not in rotation at the moment anyway, but I think you have to pick your vendetter and vendettee at the start of the game, so that wouldn't count.
Good point.
Robert Bell
Aren't rats 2ss?
Adam Collins
Rats can only be hired by Nihilists.
Jeremiah Lewis
And have subsequently been made Hamelin-exclusive.
Jose Morales
And stuffed pigs can only be hired by Gremlins.
Problem solved.
Anthony Lewis
Arcanist Gunsmiths: what are current opinions of them? I remember they got trashed on a lot when they first came out, but it seems like they're much more highly rated nowadays.
Luis Sanchez
Is the bandersnatch any good in Titania crews ? Model is pretty dope
Leo Taylor
At the very least ulix only would fix things
Henry Butler
Lorewise I'm not sure I like that. Stuffed Piglets don't seem like something he would approve of at all.
Justin Green
only with crews with taxidermist then?
Colton Flores
I'm not sure they really need a tweak. How many 6 stuffed pig crews see play?
That being said, with flying pigs, stuffed pigs and little gassers, I'm hoping for a Gremlin/resser master at some point
Joseph Watson
6 maybe not, but I'm generally up against someone who takes 3 or 4. 6 to 8 SS for a handful of activations is immensely powerful.
Jose Richardson
Yeah, the problem is cementing activation control for the price of a single model of most other factions, not that people often spend 12ss on six of them.
That and they aren't as useless as Rats are, even if Rats are only artificially inflated in cost to acknowledge what they bring to the table other than thair stats.
I've read suggestions of making the Stuffed Piglets Rare 2, with Taxidermists giving Rare +1 or +2 - which might make up for the Taxidermists themselves being a little pricey, though still good value.
I've seen them used well. I think paired with a way of distributing Burning the damage potential is good, especially with a Trigger on every suit , and the two (0) are pretty solid as well. And getting Fast off being attacked is great.
At 6ss they'd be incredible, but at 7ss, up against December Acolytes, they maybe just look a little pricey since the 6ss band is so competitive.
I know I'm often hunting for the spare stones to squeeze in Pic Related, or another Imbued Energies, or a Gamin and a Raptor.
Mason Taylor
If it's a handful than it's seems to more a case of a useful model to round out the list not a problem with 2ss models destroying the meta.
It seems it's a non-issue to be honest. Gremlins out activate just about anyone who isn't Hamlin. And piglets are nice, but they compete against Bayou gremlin who are 3ss and significant. I've heard pretty loud complaints about them being too good too.
Nicholas Parker
If they can match half your list's activations with 8 SS of a specific model there is a problem specifically with that model. At least 3 SS models are pretty much spread across the factions.
Jack Martinez
Do people really consider the Emberling dropping scrap reliable/efficient? It needs a friggin' nine.
Hudson Hernandez
Sounds the like problem is you bright to many expensive models.
There's constructive rebalancing, and then there's whining. This feels like the latter.
Brody Scott
Not really. Dropping scrap is what the emissary and porkchop are for. It's nice to have the emberling around, but when he dies it is no big deal.
Lincoln Ross
Who does? It's a 3 SS activation with significant. That is about 99% of its worth.
Adrian Nguyen
Yeah it's kind of shit compared to stuff like Joss or the mechanical porkchop.
Leo Moore
Was browsing the Arcanist and Ten Thunders forums. Slightly older threads, but the Emissary and Porkchop's rules were already available but plenty of people talk about the Emberling's scrap production without any qualifiers.
Liam Foster
If I bring 8-9 models and it only takes someone 8 SS of one model to counter-activate half of those it is clearly a problem with that model. Especially since after those 8 SS of models they can dress their list up however they like, be it as expensive as you're imagining my list to be or totalling at 12~14 activations.
The rats were restricted to Hamelin because just being 2 SS made them amazing stallers to fluff up your list while still allowing for expensive beaters to wait out your opponent's activations. This is no different.
Jace Gonzalez
Like how Veeky Forums it's notoriously bad at magic, the same is true about wyrd's forums and Malifaux.
For a long time they were telling new Nico players to take a bunch of dogs to dig up corpses.
Cameron Carter
Okay fuck the Gorar in Titanias box. Absolutely fucking useless. I need to replace the fucker.
>Is there any neverborn models with similar revival abilities ? >What is a decent replacement for Gorar, between 3-6 SS cost and not insignificant ?
Jack Cruz
Lol whining like this is what got bells nerfed.
Mason Moore
t. Gremlin player
John Morgan
Primodial magic is s pretty solid totem.
Careful who you play against though. 2ss models are widely regarded to be unsportsmanlike.
Charles Powell
I'd really haved liked it to not be insignificant, but yeah it does look like a decent totem. Guess i might proxy it for a match or two and see how it goes.
i'm relatively new, why are 2ss models considered unsportsmanlike ?
Jordan Reyes
He's being an ass, ignore him.
Jace Murphy
Nothing wrong with 2 SS models, but if you fill your list up with cheap spam models the game will turn into "You do your thing and once I'm done activating rats I will respond to everything you just did". Turn games into into a bit of a drag.
Cameron Jackson
....who the fuck wants to play like that... it's a legit strat and all that, but it doesnt sound fun for either party.
Justin Rogers
It's basically the foundation of Hamelin's playstyle, which is why he's such a controversial Master.
The 2ss thing is coming up here because of the Stuffed Piglet in Gremlins. Gremlins are already very good at activation control if they want to be, and Gremlin players have finally caught on to how effective taking 3~4+ Stuffed Piglets in every list if they want to is.
The Piglet isn't broken, but if there's any situation where "everyone" is taking 4 copies of a model in "every" list then I think it is worth looking at.
Isaac Miller
One potential solution to this is making the explosion mandatory. Then you can shoot into their pigs to make them suffer
Elijah Davis
Can anyone recommend me any alternatives to Skeeters and maybe Iron Skeeters?
I know it rarely if ever happens, but just in case my Skeeters make another one, and also because I know the model's gonna break one day, Holy shit.
For Iron skeeters, I might just try to buy some Ork Deffkoptas
Michael Morales
The Reaper Bones Fly Demon. It isn't pretty but it will never break.
Jace Edwards
How well does the book one trio of Ramos/Rasputina/Marcus hold up nowadays, as a faction-learning trio and in competitive play?
Michael Ramirez
Perfectly well, except for Sandeep existing and rendering all other Arcanist leaders pointless. Doesn't make them any less capable, but will always mean there's someone just above them. Occasionally in purely killy schemepools I like Marcus over him, but that's about it.
Kevin Powell
If they were going to change hamlin, they would have changed him with the big errata to account for 2017 schemes. I don't see a change to any of the "cannot gain condition" models
Levi Ward
Not to mention he has an expensive nightmare edition release next month they want to sell.
Evan Wright
What makes Sandeep that bad, that he renders everyone else superfluous?
Cooper Myers
With Reva usurping "highly mobile ranged damage", does Seamus' new upgrade give him new life in a new role? The renewed emphasis on Horror duels looks like it makes him more of a tarpit or attrition Master.
Owen Scott
He's a jack-of-all trades master of none, but instead of none he is master of all of them. He is so versatile that he doesn't have a bad match-up or even a bad schemepool, but is also so good at all those things that he outclasses the masters who specialise in those areas. And with the few where he would compete at being the best at the schemes and strats, he's always much better at reacting mid-game. Also unlike most Arcanists he isn't tied to some sort of theme that takes up up to half his list.
Zachary Nelson
I'm starting to think so.
>One potential solution to this is making the explosion mandatory. I don't understand why this isn't already the case.
I don't know where I land on the Hamelin issue.
The argument that it is good to force choices in scheme pool by including known crap schemes and models that are immune to them is an intellectual stance I like - it adds back some of the decision making after selecting your crew with a set of VP in mind, if the opponents' crew continues to have a hugeimpact on that. Unfortunately as a gameplay experience it is mostly just irritating.
Turning him into a tanky Horror tarpit is something they don't have a Master doing, I think? But that's what the Ressur Henchmen are for...
Jaxson James
I thought it was mandatory like Pere or Papa Loco.
Mason Diaz
>Seamus' new upgrade Seamus got a new upgrade?
John Martinez
Everyone is getting two new upgrades in Book 5
Landon Reed
>Everyone is getting two new upgrades in Book 5 That seems excessive.
Logan Hughes
Nope. Not only are they a 2ss Wd4 activation with an action to explode for 1 to 4 damage over 1" to 4" and an explode-on-death, but that explode-on-death is an option can choose not to take when it inconveniences it.
But they're Rare 6, so it's not like you can build a .whole. crew's-worth of activations from them.
Juan Richardson
I think there are a fair few Masters that just need a bit of reinvigoration, to re-open their niche or a new one to get them back on the table.
I wouldn't be too surprised if a lot of the upgrades are intended to add on to pre-existing packages to make them more enticing - undoubtedly yet more Brewmaster Poison, for example, and the Lady J upgraded to put her back in as a frontline killer/tank.
Owen Moore
Yeah. Masters like Mah need a boost bad. Giving masters like Sandeep or So'mer even more options seems silly.
Liam Robinson
I don't even know what they would do for Mah's upgrades. Mah's ugprades have always been just straightforward buffs rather than anything that adds abilities, with Mah's utility being where she falls short.
Nathaniel Anderson
>Giving masters like Sandeep or So'mer even more options seems silly. Upgrades can take away while the give, just look at the upgrades sandeep hands out when he summons.
Isaiah Bell
Newfag here.
Ive mostly have played AoS, 40k, and WH and this game caught my eye.
Whats its like compared to the other games and what does it take getting started?
Anthony Peterson
It is extremely objective-focused, quite a bit more mechanically-complex (or varied) than GW games, but getting started is a Crew Box + a small box to bring you to >35ss, which is the smaller size of game that can be played.
Do you have any models in particular you like the look of?
Do you have players in your local store? That's how I'd recommend learning about it if you know almost nothing about it. Or Guerilla Miniature Games have a number of 'learn to play' videos that are pretty good.
Anthony Richardson
I think there are a few.
I looked at the boxes and they all honestly caught my eye
It reminded me like a more steam punk esque Warmachine, and have seen gorgeous models, but know nothing of the game
Whats a standard size game?
Austin Jones
It takes a lot from Warmahordes in that it is card-gamey with each model having a bunch of unique rules, and focuses a lot on combos and general synergy. Continuing from that, while list building helps, the onus is on good play. A good player with a mediocre list will generally beat a mediocre player with a good list. Diverging from Warmahordes, it is very objective based to the point where you can be completely tabled and still win the game if you focused on your objectives. The game uses playing cards instead of dice, which result in a much less swingy game than others, so it isn't luck based as Infinity or whatever. The downsides to all this is that it will take quite a bit to get good, as you have to learn your crew and watch out for any gotcha moments.
Just buy a crew box (Generally around 35ss/50ss) and a couple more kits to get up to 50ss and you should be fine. Building a full sized crew is a very easy task, though getting some more models for flexibility purposes (The game uses adhoc list building, with hiring models coming after seeing the objectives and which faction your opponent declares) is ideal.
Levi Bennett
A standard game is 50ss, and a standard crew is about 8 models. You generally don't dip below that, but you can run much swarmier crew in Gremlins. You will want more models on hand if you are doing any summoning.
Asher Brooks
Is there a particular faction you like the look of? We can give you a bit more thorough advice for where to start with that faction or how they play.
You can start with any master but some might be a bit more difficult to start with (complexity), or might require more of an investment to start with (summoners).
Austin Richardson
Honestly after playing 40k, I'm still amazed by how cheap it is to get started, mostly because it's 1/10th the scale.
I've honestly spent more on terrain to play on than the crews themselves.
Camden Jackson
Gravedigger
Leo Allen
I hope to see a render for it soon. All it needs is to be painted with a non-plaid shirt and it should be fine. I am glad that Malifaux has its own corpse cart equivalent now.
Eli Bell
There's really something off about the artstyle this wave. I don't know if this is all the new artist but it just doesn't quite capture the old theme of malifaux.
Cameron Walker
To be honest, i dont even know where to start.
I know next to nothing about the lore
Aaron Morales
It probably is the new artist as she seems to be doing 99% of the art. I don't like it personally, but it is cheaper for Wyrd than contracting everything out I suppose.
Nathan Gutierrez
Just read the rulebooks. They have primers on the factions and masters, along with larger stories.
Noah Ortiz
Something must have caught your eye.
For the lore, it's probably easiest to read the short texts on Wyrds website, or picking up the rulebook from the OP
Angel Martinez
That looks pretty fucking terrible. I might have to make my own, less retarded version.
Joshua Anderson
I saw these Ice people from a youtube video being painted
Also vampires I think? Im not that huge into steampunk, but the victorian looking stuffed looked really nice
Christopher Brown
There are no vampires in the game actually. Rasputina and the Frozen Heart models aren't a bad idea, but the contents of her box kind of suck, so you will want to grab Acolytes of December among others as soon as you can.
Andrew Jenkins
>There's really something off about the artstyle this wave. Agreed, it's really not doing it for me at all. Too Photoshop-filter-y, not enough proper drawing art. Pic Related for both obvious reasons.
>That looks pretty fucking terrible. Art or pose? It's both for me - the cart charge thing in particular makes no sense if both his hands are stuck behind him. In my head it was a lot more like a less ginger fat Willie. hurhurhur
Michael Peterson
Both. The "Lol, look it's a butt!" is pretty dumb, as is the absurdly high stack of bodies. The gravedigger is weirdly proportioned. Hes also wearing gloves but has bare arms.
It's just all around terrible. I felt meh, about the investigators, but his guy has no redeeming features, model wise.
You're right. That is a lot better. If I end up with the box, I might just turn the other one into a mindless zombie, and figure out something to do with the wagon bits.
Benjamin Diaz
I can give a quick lore breakdown for the general factions.
>Guild Essentially the people in control of malifaux. They're a mix of the defenders of the people from the threats of malifaux as well as abusing the population for their own greed. They arent the good guys by any stretch, although there isnt really anyone in the game that could be described as the good guys.
>Ressers Faction of necromancers. Pretty much out for their own personal agendas. Either trying to take the city for themselves under a wave of undead, or just looking to build the perfect abomination. Generally viewed as the most evil in terms of good vs evil.
>Arcanist The go by as the freedom fighting mages trying to break out from under the guilds rule, but in reality they're just a front for their leader, Victor Ramos', own soul stone smuggling ring. They do try to help out and work together with other mages, but its still Ramos' way or the highway.
>Neverborn The natives of Malifaux. They're trying to save their world from both the human invaders and the tyrant entities. They've taken the forms of nightmares and dreams of the humans, and don't mind killing off a few every now and then.
>outcasts Essentially a bunch of mercs and, well, outcasts that dont really have connections to other factions. They have their own goals and agendas and sometimes are willing to sell out their skills to the highest bidder.
>Ten Thunders Natives of the three kingdoms who have a secret way into malifaux. They have infiltrated all aspects of malifaux and trying to take over the city from the shadows.
>Gremlins Bayou dwelling natives who just want to survive more or less. Kind of the comedy relief faction. Most of their masters are parodies of other masters. Beyond trying to make the best moonshine and keep the bayou safe for themselves I'm not sure what they really do.
Isaiah Cruz
I just bought the Autumn Knights.
Can people post their painted autumn knights to give me an idea for painting? Does anybody know some good painting resources to reference?
Jackson Russell
>Most of their masters are parodies of other masters. Only Ophelia is a parady, iirc.
Landon Thomas
looking up sylvaneth armies is probably a good idea.
Just ahve a flick through the toobs liek that and you should be seeing models you like.
Julian Miller
I'm a little surprised they made two.
Any Ressurs out there with an opinion on the validity of a double-wagon crew?
Seems tough to keep them fed with corpses, and expensive for what they are if you can't.
Ulix is Ramos, Wong is a kitbash of Raspie/Sonia and Yan Lo, Mah is Lady J.
They aren't as direct as Ophelia, but it's there.
Google that shit my boy.
Landon Brooks
I'd only run one gravedigger.
Gavin Nguyen
>Ulix is Ramos and a little bit of hoffman.
Jose Turner
I did google it, but most of the ones on google are awful.
Andrew Powell
>Any Ressurs out there with an opinion on the validity of a double-wagon crew? As of the last beta card I saw, probably not worth it.
I'm wondering how quick were going to get an errata from corpse counter to non mindless zombie corpse counter.
Carson Miller
>I'm wondering how quick were going to get an errata...
There seemed to be a lot of grumbling about edge cases that weren't addressed as the playtest progressed, and that's with a relatively small test base of (by the sound of it) hardly top-level competitive players.
I agree that it will be a matter of scale of fuck-up rather than 'if' there are releases in need of day 1 errata.
Luis Nguyen
Well, I'll eat my words - you aren't wrong.
There's a lot of the standard autumnal browns and brown-greens, with optional Fae-grey skin tones, and all the jobs besides that are garbage. Shame. You got any plans for how to do them?
I second this guy >painting them like birch trees looks ace
Not to kick off the whole bloat shit again, but it seems like they are moving into a "season to taste" region of model design, rather than the Wave 3 and 4 "here's a whole new thing you can do" models.
