You are discounting the abilities and weapons he gains from mods like:
>UACMN 1& 2: Has a massively heightened sense of awareness, capable of dodging Tohou-style projectiles, and possesses the WTFGun
>Nocturne In Yellow: Has a bow capable of sniping monsters from very long distances and has the abilite to harm eldritch entities on the level of the King In Yellow and the like, has runes that increase damage and his ability to tank damage. Also has an Elder Sign courtesy of Death Herself that grants protection from beings on the level of Yog-Sothoth.

Admittedly, Quake is an okay follow-up to Doom as a game, but since it's been ages and my lack of understanding of how to get the music to work, I feel it's always missing a important piece when I play it these days.

Wonder if Bethesda will green light Id to make another Quake that isn't a multiplayer arena game. I would like that a bunch as Id Software might be in a bit a Renaissance right now.

What would make it stand out from the newest Doom and Wolfenstein entries aside from its theme? Quake's big draws vis-a-vis its predecessors were mainly the innovative graphical changes and gameplay mechanics.

To be honest? Follow up Doom 2016 with a game that's just as if not more polished now that they have a good understanding of what does and doesn't work for their new design ethos.

All they might need to do is just make some really great levels; fill them with dangerous and varied enemies, expand on the lovecraftian theme that was barely touched on, and make sure the music is still good. Done and done....and expand on the Snap Map idea or just release some more tools for folks to make their own mods and maps for the game.

Pretty much this . They already have the tools and the basis for a new Quake game, now they just need to apply them.

Caleb = Blood Angel Successor? He was an undead vampire. Maybe some unholy chimeric fusion of Raven Guard and BA? He previously served a dark god so maybe a Blackshield?
