Why should I convert to a religion in your setting Veeky Forums?

Free sex every day.

More important, why should I only pray to a single God if there're lots of them?

You actually get to meet the people you pray to on the regular.

To not having to pay extra taxes. No, being part of the nobility doesnt get away with it.

Burned at the stake.

Wall of the Faithless.

With who or what?

Maybe because the gods can get jealous?

You get your own angle for guidance, counseling, and hand jobs but only hand jobs

Anyone you like, especially followers of other gods. We're very open, carefree and Mohammedan about it.

What's the cost?

Probably that...everybody else hates you.

Because it will spiritually satisfy you and give you the idea that someone or something is watching out for you personally.

Or it won't. I dunno, it's not like the gods come down and talk to people. Who even knows if they exist? But if you're in need of spiritual salvation or a place to belong, you probably want to find one of the churches.

Or you want to shout VULT and go crusading, I guess.

I enjoy the company of may acute angle, but my angel buddy is being obtuse about the whole thing.

So they're sex muslims or something?

No, regular muslims.

Because if you do, then when you die, the patron god will bring you to a beautiful and fantastic paradise where you will be feast, rest and be happy forever.

Some jealous worshippers of other gods claim that the paradise is a hell of torture and agony, but don't listen to their smear campaigns because they're plain wrong..

Where's my free sex?

Because no other deity guarantee's the safeguard and sanctity of your soul, and we just keep it under lock and key as we use a psionic discipline for you to live out your afterlife thinking of your own world created in tangent to serve your desires in a massive spiritual neural complex.

We then use your dreams from the demiplane of dreams to do all sorts of neat shit.

>not cropped porn
Source anyways?

The only religion I've properly fleshed ou is the dark elf one because it's kind of the core of their entire society.
The reason to convert to is quite simple, really. You have been lied to. The being you worship as gods are merely pretenders, demiurges who have taken the world from its true creators and moulded it to suit their needs. They have trapped you here, bound you with chains of mortality and physical law, so that you can never become as they are and must forever remain a pawn in their games. But the Most Exalted One Herself was shown the truth in an moment of eye-searing revelation; the the existence of the True Gods, the truen nature of the universe and our place within in. So tear down the pillars of the world, destroy the false idols and cast down the Pretender Gods, so that the world may be returned to its true masters! When they return the faithful will be rewarded, ascending beyond their mortal stature and becoming as they are; immortal, limitless, free from the bounds physics or false morality!
Also, you get a cool mask.
Disclaimer: it is the role of the Void-Touched to serve as the priests and holy warriors of the True Gods. Other, less enlightened races will serve roles more suitable for them, such as manual labour, untill they are deemed sufficiently enlightened.

You shouldn't.

Clergy specialize to do their job more efficiently, but even they seek out other clergy to petition on their behalf.

40 ghost virgins read: loli's, virginity ends quick there if you die for the cause.

Why worship a god when you can become the god?

Well, you'd have to die first, and lots of ghosts go mad trying to work up the spiritual hierarchy (or just sustain their existence).

all proceeds from businesses and like 60% of adventuring going to charity. Orphanges and homeless workhouses to benefit the common good. Patroned by nobility and double staffed by bard-thralls/genuinely convinced cult members. Perfect communism.

Because all three of the major political factions are tied up in one of the two major religions pretty tightly. If you don't pick one or the other you will be frozen out of the halls of power.

Also, the gods are objectively real.

Thats why you roll in a party and don't commit to any god that denies you the ability to bullshit

Because wololo.

Shit, I never thought of it that way, that's a good point.

Free baby furnace.

Why pray to a god, when you can be one?

Source? Also, is this slave Leia costume?

looks like jabshit

Actually maybe you shouldn't. Don't join evil cults for obvious reasons.

The widely-accepted churches are Good enough in their intentions, yes. There's no corruption at all, even. But it's kind of creepy, don't you think? Makes you wonder if they're human anymore.

We have actual GMs and games set up and ready to go.

Because only blessed Alomath can free you from the cycle of reincaration and the ten thousands endless miseries of the flesh.

Do you not crave escape, deep in your secret heart? Do you not yern to stay in the cool peaceful embrace of your grave rather than being dragged back into the sun?

Cause if you don't the ship will crash and everyone will die.
Is that what you want?
Now shut up and eat your hardtack.

Following it raises your luck and you're free to interpret scriptures however you please

Prayer is not transactional. Prayer is a way to speaking to someone who will listen to you and hear your concerns.

>Why should I convert to a religion in your setting Veeky Forums?

It's a Buyers market, so you'd be in pretty good shape: most if not all of the Gods are dead and the few that remain are Titans who "won" the Titanomachy and are looking for worshipers whom aren't dead, since the mortal population is quite small as well.

definitely not going to prosthelytize with an attitude like that

>Why should I convert to a religion in your setting Veeky Forums?

Because it's the only thing guarding your soul allowing it to reincarnate safely.

Why should I talk to the gods in your setting about my problems?

You don't get accepted into society otherwise.

Because otherwise you'll be executed for being a godless heathen

Because the gods can provide assistance of their own grace and free will. Sometimes you will give them gifts in thankfulness, or to acknowledge their power. But you don't give them shit to get shit. That's not how it works.

Worshipping a god is like paying respect to the President.

Man you get benefits from gods, Presidents less so.

because those gods are real enough to be universally acknowledged through empirical examination

I don't think 'religion' would be a thing in the context we use it in worlds where literal Gods exist. You'd just be a follower of whichever God your parents or caregivers follow and that'd be it for the rest of your life.

well it's a thing in the same context where most peasants are too minor to have ALIGNMENTS. They don't really know good from evil because they've never seen anyone but other peasants instead of philosophizing.

Bow to no deity, unless they appear before you and prove themselves worthy of your respect. Gods can destroy your body and threaten your soul, but that does not make them deserving of worship. It makes them tyrants deserving of spit in the eye.

Depends on the religion, but you'll generally get some pretty sweet benefits. For instance, the pseudo-Norse pantheon can and well let you have all the benefits of lycanthropy with none of the drawbacks if you serve them well enough, not to mention being fairly generous with granting boons of incredible tolerance for extreme environments. The various druidic pagan religions tend to let you get along astonishingly well in the woods and the usual nature benefits. The not-Aztec pantheon is kinda vicious, but they keep the jungle diseases at bay and those blood sacrifices actually do empower the god-king to keep the rest of the pantheon relatively tame. Some pantheons are made of Fey, Dragons, and other such beings, and those offer other benefits, usually magic or taking on an aspect of the "gods."

The monotheistic mishmash of Christian denominations is unique in that, while Big G and the saints do confer boons, the Church sells itself on its doctrines of eternity and salvation first and foremost. If you're magically inclined, the Church will also provide you with training... so long as you don't stray into necromancy, divination, summoning, or fiddling with people's minds. Divine casters are incredibly rare, as divine magic is granted, not learned, but Paladins and Clerics do show up on occasion. There's also a major heretical sect I based loosely on Gnosticism that views magic (and the knowledge required to practice it) as a way to achieve divinity and enlightenment, and will offer shelter to any mages interested in non-Church-sanctioned schools of magic.

Tl;dr - the not!pagans offer kickass temporal benefits, the Church promises salvation and some members can offer healing or full-blown miracles, and the heretics offer phenomenal arcane power and promises of apotheosis and enlightenment.

There's also the totally-not-Muslims whose high-up clergy know that they actually worship Nyarlathotep, but we don't talk about them.

You get a flamethrower to help you purge the unclean.

Because the Gods literally come down to the ground and talk to people every few decades. Are you blind?

Well around here, doing good isn't just a matter of getting a cozy afterlife, every little bit helps save our god from festering darkness.

Three words.

Thirteen letters.

My setting only has two real gods with any sort of major religion, and they're married. They have a dual religion of general law/justice and healing/hearth.

As for why to convert, prayer in the setting is allocated on a more local level. If everyone in a town is part of the church, then the town will get a priest who is going to be fueled by that prayer on a more direct basis. Someone who refuses would be seen as rather selfish and probably get denied any sort of healing from the cleric in the future.

Outside of that, the only options would be to go find one of the hidden evil gods who desire the destruction of all the two good gods and all other sapient races, but that tends to be reserved for more crazy people.

Aligning yourself with a god is the only way to protect yourself from other gods.

Because worshipping a god grants you spells.

Whenever I see the thumbnail of this I always think it's Dil Pickles from Rugrats

>I enjoy the company of may acute angle
???

He's poking fun at the fact the guy wrote angle instead of angel

The Lord himself has instructed me to purge any nonbelievers from his holy land. Thee hast better be a follower of the Lord else the end of my blade shallst be the last thing your daemon tainted soul will see

You get the honor of killing people of other religions

Convert to Islam

/watch?v=TxStq0yWDQU

[[[[[[Converting]]]]]] to a religion will afford you temporary rapport and goodwill with many sentient species that have not abolished religious practice or hold a religious institution that is so xenophobic that announcing your intent to convert will result in swift and painful murder and yet another PR debacle for the already overtaxed Galactic Federation.

But most governmental bodies in the year of our lord 2537 AD don't even have religion or at least don't even pretend to care so there's really no reason to pick up that alien bible. Why would you even WANT to convert to the alien bible?

You some kind of xeno-fucker, son?

The Triumvirate are the three gods of civilization. They are known by many names, but the most common ones are just alliterations like The Queen, The Tradesman and The Soldier.

They're very conservative in regards to a strict feudal society, but generally provide stability in the realm.

They're pretty much the main option for the major religion in the local human kingdoms. There are other gods, but they tend to be less powerful and often less pleasant...

The Quiet King, Lord of the Seas. There's no established church to his name as far as anyone can tell. He's the chaotic god of the seas and while many sailors pray to him, he is unresponsive at best.

Many small gods exist beyond that, but their domains and area of influence tends to be limited. Some may allege to be fallen greater gods, some are minor nature spirits or escaped outsiders from other realms, there's whispers of a cult that alleges that their deity is the reincarnation of the 4th member of so called Triumvirate, the Charlatan, slain at his weakest moment by the other three.

Worship of small gods is largely accepted through the kingdoms, and can bring many minor boons on the believers. Some of the larger cities have entire city squares dedicated to housing shrines to these powers, never the same from month to month.

There appears to be an afterlife and Triumvirate and most other larger cults promise something, but the dead don't tend to come back and confirm.
