Chef PC

So one of my players had made a wizard chef as their character. They use magic to enhance their food and one day hope to cook for royalty. As of now he sets up food carts in each city and town he goes to and gives out samples and sells gourmet meals for cheap. He goes adventuring to kill monsters and creatures to see how they taste along with new exotic plants and spices. What do you think would be some appropriate items (magic or mundane) that would be good to have available for him to purchase or find on his adventures?

Dwarvish mastercrafted mythril cookware

Elvish enchanted flagon of never ending cooking oil.

A vial of Drow truffle oil which is lethal in high doses but pleasantly tingly in very small amounts

A wreath of dried orcish chilis

A gnomish pocket distiller to extract essences of aromas which can be kept in little perfume bottles to spray on things

Blocks of salt (historically crazy valuable)

A cute flame spirit familiar who if treated right and fed well will never burn your food, and if trained can create exact temperatures for precise cooking/baking

So a magical sous vide ?

A small collection of jarred caviars which pop in the mouth like pop rocks with varying degrees of intensity

Exactly, but a sous vide you have to be nice to otherwise it gets sassy and messes up your food.

If you wanted to get really magical or surreal have him start finding impossible abstract concepts bottled in physical form. For example a single drop from a tincture of heartache and a dusting of powdered love in a soup to give a deep flavor of savory nostalgia.

Depending on the tone of the setting you could have a knowledge check for a character to know that a tincture of heartache is made from a magical distillation of the dying tears of an old maid who had passed her entire life in perfect virtue but never truly lived a single day of happiness. Needless to say it's a very rare ingredient indeed.

top every dessert with a single flake of the emotion of money well spent, which as any chef wizard would know, must be extracted from the shavings of a gold coin which was given happily as a bonus, above and beyond an agreed upon price, by a merchant of renown thrift. While the flavor does technically exist in any coinage used as a tip, the logistics of the magical extraction of such low doses is universally agreed upon as nearly impossible and definitely not worth the effort. As such a small poach of the flakes is regarded as an extraordinary treasure.

Literal thousand year eggs

Jesus christ what the hell

Chinese food, look up thousand year egg. A lot of white people think they're foul, but i like them a lot. People mistakenly eat them like normal eggs, which is gross, and then complain, which is dumb. Really they're kind of like a topping, they have a very strong flavor and can be used to spruce up congee or tofu.

I'm gonna put it on pizza.
