It all depends on how much you want to idolize Gygax,

In the Gygax biopic, she's clearly the main villain, and not only cartoon-level spiteful (essentially ruining Gygax's career by suing him when he tried to publish a new game after leaving TSR) but generally unlikable in every other capacity (inherited her wealth through her grandfather having the rights to Buck Rogers, tried to use TSR as a vehicle to push out Buck Rogers stuff despite no demand since her family got paid regardless of what sold, etc.).

At the same time, Gygax was no suffering saint. He had no talent for business, and pursuing his dream of the D&D movie and largely abandoning the company otherwise is what lead to Lorraine getting control of the company. And, from the script, Gygax's D&D movie was going to be even worse than the ones we got, if you can imagine that.

In the end, it's a lot easier to side with Gygax because we all owe him a debt and he really got screwed over by her and the Blumes, but at the same time this woman had no obligation to do anything but turn a profit, and even though she ran the company into the ground she still walked off with a fat paycheck.

She is capitalism personified.

And she did the exact opposite, which is why she is hated. If she had turned TSR into a corporate juggernaut like Disney, no-one would be complaining about Gygax's hurt feelings.

But since she ran TSR into the ground she deserves the hate.

A profit for herself is still a profit, especially considering she had no actual business talent or even the faintest understanding of what kind of business she was running.

She and her family made a fair amount by siphoning off TSR's finances with their failed Buck Rogers projects.

The failed Buck Rogers projects that her family owned the copyright to. Meaning that TSR was licensing the rights from herself. She was running a company, made the company license from her, then would push them so she could make more money.

All the while those ADnD box-sets everyone fondly remembers were being sold at a loss.

Williams wasn't the reason for TSR's demise, people like Breault, Kirchoff and Denning who insisted they publish a hundred different campaign settings and modules bankrupted the company.
