What's your favorite elemental spread?

What's your favorite elemental spread?

The 4 classics? Chinese? Something else?

If you say 'le periodic table' you're a fag.

Fire. Water. Time. Crystals. Gayness. Electricity. Gravity. Radiation. Qi. Willpower.

Compassion, Laughter, Dance, Respect, and a second Dance.

elements are for gay children

>fist is an element

Nothing wrong with perodic table. Imagine the possibilties you could have where each person has a spefic power from the table.

Sprite, Dark, Light, Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Metal, Ice, Lightning, and Wood.

...

seriously, a carbo-mancer is the single most terrifying thing on the planet

Wizards experimenting using high-energy magic believe fragments of reality are composed of smaller constituent flavors. They have given the known flavors the following names: up, down, side-ways, sex-appeal, and peppermint. A brassiere flavor is theorized but attempts to observe it have resulted in permanent transmutation into underwear.

Air - Earth - Fire - Water is simple and universally understood. I like adding a "good" and a "bad" element to that too, usually Light and Darkness, or sometimes Holy and Unholy. Six is a good number, gives you three axes to work with.

Blood, Bread, Bone, and Wine (A Kind of Blood)

The four classic western elements plus two eastern additions in the form of wood (representing life) and metal (representing artifice).

Water, Air, Earth, Heat, Cold and Life

I went with Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, Light and Shadow in one setting. Tried to tie in associated qualities so you don't have elementalists just running around throwing chunks of their elements at each other.

You had the obvious opposed pairs - Air and Earth for example, but I also added complementary pairs. Water and Earth both sustain life and can take on many forms, Fire and Light are both radiant elements and Shadow and Wind are both mysterious, somewhat intangible forces.

Metal, noise, blood, fire.

Call me a purist, but I never saw anything wrong with a six element spread, the classic four plus light and darkness.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Plastic, Smoke, Metal, Meat, Sugar

Breath, Life, Time, Space, Light, Mind, Rage, Doom, Hope, Blood, Void, Heart

mostly because there isn't really a classic four. The classic alchemical elements include earth, water, air, fire, but also aether. The chinese have wood, fire, earth, metal, and water; sometimes even void/air like Sun Tzu has in his book.

I like this one, definitely feels like it could be part of some mix of dark medieval and high fantasy subversion.

Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Machine, & Food.

I understood both of those references.

le periodic table

Terrible general fanbases, and the latter had a decline in quality towards the end, but both had great settings and worldbuilding, with some of my favorite elemental systems in any fiction.

Very interesting, thank you for sharing.

Fire, Water, Stone, Ice, Earth, Air. Maybe more.

Do you guys make lightning/electricity its own element or do you couple it with another one? Like with air for the storm niche or fire for the high energy/high heat niche?

I like when a breakdown is more

Natural Elements
Magical Elements
Spiritual Elements

Warcraft sort of does it where there are fire/wind/water/earth but all that falls into one category, and studying arcane magic is its own thing and light vs darkness is its own thing.

Came here to say this. I like throwing in Bone as an element as well since I like things coming in 5s.

Also generate other lesser or greater elements based on the 5. Water, for instance, is just lesser blood while combustion is an element combining fire and noise.

Some of them got kinda out there but it's a fun fucking elements system.

I had an idea for something similar:

Spiritual Elements:
>Light
>Darkness
>Harmony
>Chaos

Material Elements:
>Fire
>Water
>Wind
>Earth

Mental Elements:
>Creation
>Destruction
>Time
>Space

Tell me what you most desire user

That's a good setup!

>Team CHONPS
>A team of 6 Periodical magicians capable of creating, and manipulating life
>Are they good or evil?

Hot, Cold, Spooky, Sleaze and Stench

>Plastic, Smoke, Metal, Meat, Sugar

Ah the most important elements. Anyway, I've been using Air, Earth, Fire, Water, Aether, and Azoth of late. I've also been considering further dividing them into sub-elements based on Stability/Volatility.

Thanks! I've been brainstorming the setting for a while, and want to adapt the magic system to work in a tabletop game, because it encourages spellcasters to be creative and experiment rather than have a list of moves to choose from. Pretty much, you take essences from these elements - either through meditation, chants/prayers/holy words, runes, or some other medium - and string them together. You get one element from each category, and can focus/add more essence to an element to enhance it. The first element determines the "form" of the spell. The second element determines the "function". The third element determines the "flavor". So, for example, Creation-Light-Fire might cast a spell that produces a torch.

I've been using a tier of elements

It starts with Time
then goes to Life+Death
Then Mind+Body+Spirit
Then Fire+Wind+Earth+Water

Water, Earth, Fire, Air, Lightning, Ice(Cold).

>It starts with
One thing
I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind
I designed this rhyme
To explain in due time
All I know
>Time

Here's the system I'm working on...

Major physical elements: time, space, energy and matter

Minor physical elements: electromagnetism, gravity, combustion and radiation

Major mystical elements: creation, action, nothingness and life/death

Minor mystical elements: light, darkness, thought and symbol

>>Sprite

Wish I had a better version. Also wish the Pokemon TCG had something like a Color Pie.

>7up

I will never not love how they had to reduce the amount of types of pokemon from the video games to the card game. Does anyone know why? My best guess is that there was too much color overlap for each one to be distinctively different.

>Sierra Mist

The MTG Pie divides things up in a sot of spiritual/philosophical elementalism. All 5 have important roles and concepts attached. I just wish WotC didn't own it.

Flesh
Blood
Bone
Rage

I think it was that. Some are too similar when you think about it. Didn't WotC create the card game? They probably focused on gameplay more than adapting the game one-to-one because they were outsiders. Most likely for the best.

Bread and pasta weaving is fun, but not that terrifying

Master of Magic is older than MTG, right?

You know nothing of the Breadnaughts

Bow
Stern
Port
Starboard

Earth, Wind & Fire

You can overlay these on each other pretty well to explore themes.
>water-harmony-creation
>fire-chaos-destrustion
>etc
I like it.

yes, but the 6 way split isnt as good as a 5 way split. a 5 way split creates elegant asymmetries with matchups and division of duties. also the divide is a little more vague and philosophical than "chaos magic" or "sorcery".

Four Elements: There's DJin'. There's Breakin'. There's Graffiti. And then there's the MC.

My elements
>calor
>aqua
>lux
>electricae
>terra
Calor is heat and cold: fire and ice.
Aqua is water: dry and wet
Lux is light: bright and dark
>electricae is electricity: lightning and magnetism
Terra is earth: nature and ground

I made up a five element spread years ago in high school, and I've been using it in my stuff ever since.

The five elements are the elements of the dead, and govern all necromancy and undeath.
They are
>Blood, the element of vitality
>Bone, the element of stability
>Blight, the element of adaptability
>Blaze, the element of sanctity
>Brume, the element of finality

I like undead in my games a lot.

Stolen from another user, but I loved it so

>Bone
The static non-living things of the world. Earth, stone, the sky etc
>Flesh
Life of all kind, from simple grass to toadstools to fish, rabbits, bears and man.
>Blood
Water and other humours that enable life: rain, streams, the ocean, bile, acid, regular blood.
>Brain
The sum result of mankind's intelligence- language and society.
>Soul
Magic.

The powers of the characters are based around manipulating elements from the periodic table
Iron, Copper, Gold, Oxygen, Sodium, Roentgenium, Carbon and others

Air, prana, fire, mana, earth, water.

For aquatic races, water, air, ice, earth and magnetism.

peace (maintenance of the system)
angery (shake up of the system)

activity (reference point moves in the system)
inactivity (system moves around the reference point)

FFXI kind of spoiled me.

God I had a giggle

Fuck you that was kinda funny

imo tradtitional elemental spreads get boring i prefer more creative ones

Heaven, Earth, fire, water, lightning, wind, mountain, pond.

shame they've really fucked it up over the years

The universe I play in uses:
Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Unholy, Holy, Spirit/Fate, Luck.

I like the Titan Quest system, has a lot of interesting combos

faggot

>radiation
we shin megami tensei?

Could always do your elements based on modern physics.
>matter, energy, time, space
or
>gravity, electromagnetism, weak nuclear force, strong nuclear force, dark energy

I made one based off the 4 elements: Air-Fire-Water-Earth.
Each element has 3 subgroups where the magic actually happens. They also represent some additional philosophical and fluff related things, some I've forgotten about.
>Aero - Change, Move, Shift
Lightning - electricity, pairs with Pyro
Air - wind, flight, pairs with Hydro
Thunder - sound, explosions, pairs with Geo

>Pyro - Consume, Destroy, Burn
Fire - fire, pairs with Aero
Bio - acids, radiation, chemicals, pairs with Hydro
Arid - erosion, friction, time, pairs with Geo

>Hydro - Replenish, Refill, Recover
Steam - clouds, vapor, pairs with Aero
Water - water, pairs with Pyro
Ice - ice, pairs with Geo

>Geo - Steady, Balance, Fortify
Earth - ground, rock, pairs with Aero
Metal - construction, industry, pairs with Pyro
Plant - growth, pairs with Hydro

Sun, Moon, Fire, Water, Wood, Metal, Earth

Or when not memeing, just the 4 usual ones.

Earth > Fire > Water > Air > Earth

Earth + Fire = Blast
Earth + Water = Poison
Earth + Air = Gravity
Fire + Water = Steam
Fire + Air = Lightning
Water + Air = Ice

Earth + Water + Air = Dark
Earth + Fire + Air = Light

Earth + Fire + Water + Air = Force

I'm always trying to match elements and colors, but I've never come up with a fully working system.

Mine sounds a bit like yours, only the four primary elements have secondary states and negative states I their subgroup which is kind of Planescape like. Then each element has an affiliation.

So you have

>Hydromancy
Primary state: Water
Secondary state: Ice
Negative state: Acid
Affliation: Law

>Aeromancy
Primary state: Air
Secondary state: Cloud (Open to a better idea on this one since clouds are water, maybe force?)
Negative state: Vacuum
Affiliation: Chaos

>Geomancy
Primary state: Earth
Secondary state: Biology/Nature/Life
Negative state: Dust
Affiliation: Law

>Pyromancy
Primary state: Fire
Secondary state: Lightning
Negative state: Ash
Affiliation: Chaos

But see then you have a fifth element, Astromancy, or Aether basically, which is beyond secondary state or affiliation. It's basically God mode.
