Epic is an old specialist game from GW that was discontinued a few years ago, since then the community has taken over. Recently there have been rumors of FW releasing new Adeptus Titanicus rules soonish, and depending on if it succeeds(which likely it will) they plan to expand into classic Epic.
>Where do I get the rules? tp.net-armageddon.org/ It's based off of the Epic Armageddon rule set, otherwise known as Epic 4th Ed, with some minor changes and new army lists. You can also find 30k rules here. >Where do I get those fan made minis that show up everywhere? You post your email in Epic threads and hope that one of the recasters contact you, or post on Tactical Command (tacticalwargames.net/taccmd/index.php) and hope you can find someone after you build up trust there. >Where else can I get miniatures? There is a lot of old epic stuff on Ebay and some manufacturers produce good proxies, like vanguardminiatures.co.uk/. Tacticalwargames.net, and other forums or facebook groups also do lots of trading in second hand epic minis. >What's the game like? Players alternate using parts of their armies called formations rather than moving and fighting with their entire force. Morale and fatigue is represented by giving “Blast Markers” to a formation when something bad happens to it, which gradually makes it less effective and stops more and more units in the formation from acting until they rally. The scale makes units with longer range weapons or high movement speed stand out more, makes maneuvering more important and allows for the use of many units that are super heavy or above in Warhammer 40 000, such as Baneblades, fliers, knights or titans without warping the game too much. The new 30k stuff is also great, and they are rapidly developing more rules for the legions as the actual FW Redbooks release.
I do feel like the player base would be much lager if the miniature were easy to obtain.
As it stands it is easier to get illegal drugs.
Gabriel Morgan
Depends on what you're wanting to play, but the starter guide has some decent sources on minis.
I personally think Vanguard miniatures is the most reasonably priced
Andrew Sanders
>I personally think Vanguard miniatures is the most reasonably priced
This, and they are some of the best not!40k models out there
Camden Bennett
Looking at that picture makes me realise just how easy it would be to use historicals as Imperial guard.
Jace Smith
To get a scene going at least one local player has to bite the bullet and collect two forces and demo them.
>t. someone who got people into playing FFOT in my area
Michael Perry
except that if I'm going to get into it then I want to get GW (styled) stuff, not close approximations of the GW stuff I want.
Ayden Perry
They kinda work, but they're also the easiest faction for 3rd party minimakers to design without infringing (unless they're Trolls Under the Bridge in which case they don't seem to care).
Historicals tend to be a little spindly for 40k, and real-life tanks are just too low to look right. Exodus Wars had "heroic scale" tanks closer to modern ones in design, and I don't think they fit very well in the 40k universe.
eBay's not as bad as it used to be. But the goal is to keep making threads until resinbro comes back and isn't too drunk next time.
James Kelly
You could probably modify some WW1 tanks to fit the Imperial aesthetic, since thats what they are inspired by anyway.
Charles Cox
Do you mean like the old epic models?
Cause most of these new models look quite a bit better than the originals thanks to improvements in technology.
Daniel Butler
I remember these. I love Epic just because I really like the dinky minis.
Does anyone else remember the WD articles where they turned a bunch of Epic minis into a "Travel" version of Warhammer 40K for play on trains and planes? I think they were using tiny slices of magnetic strip on the bases and a steel plate battlefield.
Isaac Green
>Historicals tend to be a little spindly for 40k, and real-life tanks are just too low to look right.
I once bought some GHQ M110 A2 self propelled guns to use as Basilisk proxies.
Interestingly enough, the M110s are pretty much the same length as the old MKII GW Basilisk, but the Basilisk's proportions are... well... cartoony.
Hudson Jenkins
where do these models come from?
Austin Lopez
Sounds awfully similar to something an user over in /awg/ tried to do with Kings of War.
I think he was using 10mm figures though.
Good idea though, been tempted to try something similar myself.
Owen Green
I recall it worked pretty well because the old Epic models had tiny sub-bases on them (meant to fit into the squad bases) that were pretty close in proportion to the standard 40K slottabases.
Benjamin Edwards
I wish I knew user, the second one is apparently the work of a rather hard to pin down recaster, if this thread stays up long enough you might get better answers.
Nathaniel Lopez
>Using GHQ miniatures for epic.
This is one case where I'd say the miniatures are actually far too high quality for the source material, although it would probably look good if used consistently.
Jaxson Adams
ghq miniatures are also smaller scale
Liam Watson
Man, those are some really nice Epic tanks.
Source on this pic or miniatures?
Samuel Long
What scale is Epic? 15mm? 10mm? 6mm? 3mm?
Benjamin Jones
6mm, although much like warhammer, its "heroic" 6mm.
So closer to 8mm.
Leo Taylor
I dont know where the warhammer'esque models are from sorry But trollsunderthebridge cz makes leman russes, also check out vanguard minatures
Jacob Cox
No I meant forumware stuff that actually looks like tiny warhammer models
Dominic King
WW1, 2, Cold War, 15mm Tanks for Superheavies it's all good.
Anthony Brooks
Heroic just means the weapons, heads, and hands are exaggerated; the models themselves are 6mm in scale and would look small next to 8mm models.
Dominic Walker
no one mentioning the Titan game under development?
I am interested in buying 2 small forces of epic. I really like those space marine tanks. I have a bunch of grogs from the wargaming club who have tons upon tons of epic figures. One guy has a bunch of those castle tower Titans (emperor class?) so I am sure I can get a game in if I hype them up enough.
any recasters out there who can help me out? I am thinking a sm versus eldar would be fun, but classic CSM is also nice and would go along my BFG fleets. my email: [email protected]
Cooper Bennett
>Horus Heresy >Imperial Only
Pass
Jason Cooper
AT is strictly only going to be Titans and Knights. Plus the rules will be completely different than NetEpic: Armageddon or NetEpic. I'm reserving any major hype until FW starts previewing rules other than running the occasional 28mm game at Warhammer Events.
Granted, I play Epic30k in the meantime so not like I mind waiting.
Dominic Peterson
I've been able to get 4-5 guys interested in Epic30k in my area, but it's only because I have access to the forumware caster.
DESU it wasn't really hard to get his contact info. However, due to cunts leaking his info, he's definitely had to cull his contacts list. So good luck trying to get his info now. He doesn't accept random referrals off the internet anymore, so unless you know someone personally who is willing to vouch for you, you're not going to be able to contact him.
Adam Bennett
The best companies for alternative Epic minis are:
What's a good price for a Capitolis Imperialis and Hellbore, both originals not recasts, complete, intact, only undercoated?
If and when they do EPIC again I will be interested, but I don't really care about Titan-only fights.
Kayden Turner
Specialist Design Studio has already said they're not interested in doing an Epic-like game. They might do a standalone games like a tank only Tallarn game but they'll never do a comprehensive Epic game.
Which is fine with me, NE:A is a perfectly fine rules system.
Blake Anderson
Here are some of my Iron Hands for Epic30k painted up. Working on 4 different armies for my group to use to get them onboard: Iron Hands, Mechanicum, Titan Legions, Imperial Militia.
Josiah Foster
>Specialist Design Studio has already said they're not interested in doing an Epic-like game
I expected as much, hence the If. Titans only is something that won't require much in the way of resources yet they could get years of expansions out of it simply releasing extra titans.
And GW does love it's big models in recent years given how profitable they are, so from a business standpoint it makes too much sense to not bother with trying to make and sell whole armies.
Brandon Clark
where dd you get the mins?
Connor Lewis
Private caster. He doesn't accept random referrals anymore.
Zachary Taylor
They've still futureproofed it though, as seen by the fact 8mm was justified as the smallest scale they could still see power armor marks at. Based on how they treated Blood Bowl, I expect them to add onto the game precisely as much as profits allow and not one kit more. I do agree with both you and them that it won't reach the scope in models and playerbase that Epic had.
Gavin Morris
Excellent stuff mate.
Jaxon Evans
Here's a great article on how to utilize the Engage order:
Thanks! Almost done painting my 4000 points Iron Hands Legion force. Just need to finish up another unit of Gorgon Terminators and some Xiphons and it's on two my Mechanicum.
Hudson Ross
It does not get more detailed than this.
It took me a number of games to get that engagements were the key.
Any new or even existing players should read this.
Bentley Evans
There's always Shapeways if you can handle the expense.
Sebastian Fisher
How do I get some friends into the game anons? They all showed interest at the 30k Forumware stuff, but it seems like that is getting harder and harder to find. Should I get a couple small demo armies from Vanguard miniatures(Like orks + guard) and go on from there?
Pic related what I am always on the search for but will never find
John James
Build two armies for yourself, Vanguard probably make the best looking stuff next to the superior Forumware, and demo the game for them. If they're not willing to deal with the playtest status of the HH supplement, then go with regular Epic 40k armies.
Aaron Johnson
Current WIPs.
Thomas Powell
Will do user. Also is the best way to get a recasters email to post on tactical command a lot? Seems like people keep giving out that advice.
Pic related: what I am tempted to make my guard infantry
Adrian Miller
Yeah, without forumware your best bets are Imperial Guard and Orks. Vanguard's not-marines are pretty complete, but I get that not everyone likes the look. Then you've got partial model availability for Necrons (Trolls Under the Bridge - these are blatant ripoffs), Tau, Dark Eldar, Tyranids/Genestealer Cult, Sisters of Battle (Onslaught), Eldar, and Adeptus Mechanicus (Vanguard).
Shapeways does cover a lot of official GW designs, and a few metal recasts occasionally appear on eBay.
Vanguard's starting to do Chaos marines and guard. I think there should be fewer objections to using their corrupted marines as CSM because the aesthetic's always been a little more freeform. For the same reason, using Onslaught's corrupted sisters for an Emperor's Children army works reasonably well despite the boobies.
Kevin Cruz
Yeah, start a thread in the 6mm forum and post pics. They'll know you're actually into the game.
Grayson Richardson
Well I would've suggest that a few months ago, but some cunt ratted out the primary caster so he's not taking any referrals anymore. There is one US-based recaster that might still be taking referrals, but haven't heard from him a while.
Angel Ramirez
It really does seem like the recasters are drying up, wish even just a year ago I had started searching, it almost sounds like i'm too late to the party.
Thank you user
Seriously would this be too much or could the rats work okay?
Jace Long
I'm sure no one would bat an eye if you used rats. Hell, I've seen people use Hordes' Legion of Everblight models as Tyranid Bio Titans.
Ayden Robinson
The rats idea is awesome.
We're used to proxying anyway...
Jacob Davis
I've got those rats for a death korps army, they really are amazing sculpts. I used the non-armoured ones for regular grunts, and the PA ones for grenadiers. ALso use the PA ones as counts-as scouts for my Iron Warriors army I run using loyalist rules
Blake Rogers
Mind posting pics of yours kind user?
Jacob King
How about tabletop sim? Are there any 6mm models on Steam to use?
Luis Foster
There are tons of models for 40k stuff, which you can just shrink down. Also there is this one, which is specifically for epic.
not painted yet (I got a sinful backlog). They look pretty much like the pictures on the store. Cast quality was a notch above most of these companies though (with everything I've gotten from them)
Evan Torres
Good to know user, I just wanted to make sure they look nice in big swarms.
Adrian Foster
I wish Epic was more accessible. I have some Baran Siegemasters infantry, Thunderbolts and/or Marauders, Medusas, and Basilisks but that's about it. Nobody hooks you up with recasters like in 40k and HH and the ebay stuff is crazy expensive.
Jeremiah Edwards
>Nobody hooks you up with recasters like in 40k and HH
Those casters are generally chinese and can be more open an belligerent with their offerings, that is not the case with the epic casters.
Adrian Nelson
Idc if its just titans and knights, i just want titanicus out now
Jeremiah Myers
Look at Vanguards stuff, their vehicles are great unless you're a GW purist.
Juan Howard
Honestly, Vanguard is worth checking out
They seem like the best option if you want a consistent source of miniatures.
Matthew Kelly
Yeah. Eastern Europe must be a safe haven too - there are a few Russian vendors on eBay selling a small selection of forumware minis, and Trolls Under the Bridge (Central European but still former Eastern Bloc) is just resizing 28mm GW/FW models.
Justin Adams
I don't even care about trying to get the recasters info, just sell me your stuff at a 15% markup
Aaron Bennett
God bless those crazy slavs, although they've had to stop listing some of their vehicles apparently.
Ian Torres
You can still get them off their ebay store.
Kayden King
this desu.
Nicholas White
Back in the day I got suckered into Dystopian Wars and the only good thing that came out of that debacle was the Armored Clash ruleset. Unfortunately that's even more obscure/dead than the rest of the Spartan dreck but every time I see the army pictures of the 30k epic with the amazing tanks and the infantry all arrayed on their cute little bases I feel that itch again, only to remind myself that the forumware scene is harder than heck to get invited to and that I'll never be able to get those cute little tanks. The Death Korps and Iron Fists at the top of this thread are particularly itch causing. Damn this cruel world.
Carter Hall
Check out the non forumware links mentioned in this thread like Vanguard or Trolls under the bridge.
They may have some stuff that interests you.
Leo Howard
>death korps
infantry is the easy part, if you can get some imperial guard tanks and/or a titan you should be set.
with trolls having the tanks as well that's pretty tempting. Unfortunately the vanguard not-30k tanks don't do as much for me as the 'legit' ones but wait and see, maybe they'll grow on me Thanks!
Cooper Reyes
Damn, how many leman russes are usual for a 3000 point list?
This is 3000 points, check out the guard list if you want an idea.
Jackson Sullivan
now that I know I can get leman russes for about $5 a pop, I'm considering my options
Carter Sullivan
Just some silly test fitting from a while back.
Levi Lewis
Now, you've got to put the turrets on the plane.
Only then will you become a true ork mek.
Ian Nelson
I'm glad the original caster does his stuff in metal. I'd be too worried about resin snapping, especially on those thin barrels.
Leo Flores
I also have the various vehicles in resin and they are not at all fragile, I also worried about the barrels but that has not been an issue.
I think the resin being used is better than forgeworld.
Leo Evans
What flyer is that?
Robert Roberts
Is it unreasonable to not want to play against people using third party armies? Proxying feels disrespectful to me.
It isn't difficult to get recaster info if you're committed, and if you won't make the effort why should I play you?
The forumware people haven't "dried up", you just aren't making the grade for referrals.
Juan Green
looks like an AI bommer
Asher Wilson
You sound like a cunt desu.
James Moore
Yeah it's unreasonable
Evan Harris
No it is not unreasonable and you are right about the forumware.
Jordan Ross
I have forumware and I think you're one of the reasons why some people get upset enough at the whole secret club thing to want to report everybody to GW.
Adrian Barnes
Okay seriously sell me your stuff
Zachary Cooper
Yeah, it's unreasonable, and you're a dick. You're discriminating against people who are buying in-production models for an unsupported game.
Caleb Cox
When the originals aren't for sale and there are 3rd party minis designed to the same general aesthetic, yes, it's unreasonable. This is also a game that sold best in its earlier iterations, so there are more crappy early-'90s models than the more detailed late-'90s versions.
I'm personally not a fan of using models like these as Leman Russes (they're from Exodus Wars) because they don't look remotely similar. But it was common when there weren't other options. That's just the way it was.
Andrew Price
I have been absolutely desperate to get in contact with the recaster who does the Horus Heresy crap and Forgeworld stuff. I.E. the miniatures featured in the first few pictures in this thread.
I really want to do an Epic army, but the old models look like trash. I've had good dealings with based chinaman in the past, if that counts for anything. If someone replies to this and needs my email that'd be dope
Thomas Turner
Ignore the cunt above trying to be an elitist. It's going to be tough getting forumware stuff from the original caster because he had to cull his client list after some FW fanboi ratted him out.
Give it a few months and he might be inclined to take new customers. In the meantime, pick an army that can use decent proxies if you're against playing with non-GW looking models. I.e. IG/Imperial Militia armies using Trolls.cz or Vanguards infantry. The Skinnerz line from Vanguard works excellently for Orks too.
The models are nice, but aren't necessary to learn the game and to get friends interested.
Henry Lopez
I have 4 forumware armies and if I ever met a cunt like you I wouldn't play you in a heartbeat.
Juan Gomez
Depends on the models. For example I would have no problem with stuff like these, but playing against proxies doesn't even resemble what they are supposed to be is annoying and lame.
Aiden Barnes
>some people get upset enough at the whole secret club thing to want to report everybody to GW.
