Veeky Forums /a/

Since /a/ sucks, what are some good Veeky Forums flavored anime and manga?

Dungeon Meshi is probably one of the better Veeky Forums-esque mangas right now. As far as anime, I thoroughly enjoyed Log Horizon which while intended to be MMO-themed still fits pretty well for more traditional RPG formats (group of individuals with diverse abilities finding creative solutions to obstacles), with a nice dose of political intrigue and mystery which are really more befitting of Veeky Forums than /v/.

What exactly do you mean by "Veeky Forums flavored"? Are you looking for anything that seems like it could be a tabletop RPG campaign?

Here's a great big list of fantasy shit.
It's a couple of years out of date and it clearly doesn't select for quality, but it is something.

Mushishi seems like a chill solo campaign with a focus on characters

While Naruto has loads of problems, its basic structure and supernatural system really lend themselves to the TTRPG format (hence Naruto d20 being a thing). The recent reboot, Boruto, does this pretty well too.

Shinsekai Yori could work as a really trippy game, probably using a rules-lite system as powers tend to be all-or-nothing affairs. Clearly a GM who likes their dystopias and complicated world-building.

I could potentially be Psycho-Pass being some sort of semi-sci-fi setting with the players a team of enforcers.

Since no one has mentioned it, Made in Abyss has top tier artwork and amazing tone. I'd give it a look since it really captures both the horror and beauty of dungeoneering.

Usually it seems to mean
>recommend me generic fantasy shit plox

Where monsters rampage, I'm there to take them down! Where treasure glitters, I'm there to claim it! Where an enemy rises to face me, victory will be mine!

this

>Dungeon Meshi
That reminds me. Does anyone know of any anime that feature similar ideas - as in taking your typical (c)RPG dungeon crawl and forcing the protagonists to deal with the reality of staying in a fucking dark dungeon for days fighting every minute?

I run away if I was you OP, because the no fun police are going to come and shit all over your thread. If it isn't there Veeky Forums then it's shits and deserves to be shit on. Personally, I like picture. A good selection of stuff that you may, or may not like.

Dungeon Meshi - Party explores a megadungeon while eating monsters, features lots of foodporn.
Wizard's Soul - Girl's family gets heavily in debt in a world where not-MtG is a huge deal, goes on to win a tournament to get the money back using a control/mill/permission blue deck.
Quick Start!! - Comedy 4koma about cute girls playing Japanese TTRPGs.

>Made in Abyss has top tier artwork and amazing tone

Veeky Forums never lets me forget its primary userbase is children.

Seconding this. Give made in abyss a chance, there's more to it than you think.

It has it's flaws and sometimes it gets really cringe (this coming from someone who's not big into anime) Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash was pretty cool (unlike the name haHAA), only one season though but I would check it out if I were you.

> I thoroughly enjoyed Log Horizon

Holy shit, Veeky Forums has awful taste.

...

DUNGEON MESHI

JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE

Nah. They are too busy being edgy or focusing on superficial elements.

Deltora Quest anime was pretty good.

I hated this image when it was new, and it seems worse every time I look at it
Generally speaking if there's some sort of endless dungeon the characters are dealing with it's usually fairly light on the details like DanMachi or whatever, but there's the rare Made in Abyss (personally I can't really stand the character designs for it) or Grimgar (Grimgar is really only close to what you're describing in some ways though) where everything kicks the main character's ass and is horrible

I only recently learned of its existence and haven't watched it. I grew up on the Deltora books and was greatly surprised by how much the tone of the setting was changed.

The books freaked me out so much as a kid that I stopped reading them. When I watched the anime years later, I couldn't figure out if it dumbed the books down or if 7-year-old me was more retarded than I thought.
At the very least, I remember someone dying as a result of stealing a gem or something, which definitely did not happen in the anime.

There was some dark stuff in the books. I remember the children of the witch were a big deal in the first book or two, complete with the pair that reversed their names and disguised as an elderly couple to lure in unsuspecting travelers to eat them. You needed to be paranoid as fuck to survive.

Those "Live No Evil" pillows are probably the things I remember most from the series.

>Naruto d20
World of Five Nations is way better.

Were they pillows? For whatever reason, I remember them being stitched in cloth and hung on a wall. There were loads of deathtraps like that though; if something looked too good to be true, it almost certainly was. Throw in Ols, and you've got a recipe for major trust issues as a kid.

You might be right, it's been a while, I just always imagined them as pillows for some reason.
I had completely forgotten about the Ols before watching the anime though.

>Naruto reboot

FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
Why is this a thing
I thought they were done
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

"Ronja: The Robber's Daughter" is a nice little show about a girl's adventures in a magical forest but really gives a good emotional hit here and there. The fantasy elements aren't that important but they're present, more so to add a sense of quirkiness and danger to the forest setting

Has an excellent portrayal of Harpies, though they only play a minor role in the story.

It's actually better than Naruto right now, mostly because the power levels have been immensely scaled back.

>go to /a/
>be so new you want to be spoonfed but don't know /a/ hates rec threads
>got BTFO of /a/ when you make a rec thread
>come to Veeky Forums
>Veeky Forums spoonfeeds newfag like a bunch of retards
This is why /a/ is the best board.

Well, there's that Witch Hat Atelier manga that
someone dumped here yesterday, that was pretty
Veeky Forums

Shingeki no Bahamut, its actually an ad of sorts for a CCG but its so stupidly well done it really is a good anime, its not exceptional but its well animated and entertaining.

I'm not sure how long they'll be able to keep that up, though. They had to walk a fine line with the big battle at the end of season one, specifically by giving it a "if you hit it with a high-level character, it goes nuclear" ability to prevent Naruto, who is still godly strong, from one-shotting it. Having the old super-powered cast around means that there are more hoops to jump through to make missions for the kids.

Or we enjoy discussing things we like in the context of traditional games?

The novel was ok, haven't seen the adaptation, how is that?

Also OP you may find something in the isekai genre, mainly manga or novels, if you are willing to go through the shit.

Dungeon Meshi is definitely top quality tho.

Also nobody said Berserk? The protagonist is a literal murderhobo.
Yeah I know that everybody and their nans has read it. Still worth a mention.

Also I know my formatting is shit, please forgive me as I am already committing sudoku.

I second Wizard's Soul. Neat TCG

Goblin Slayer, if only for the large amount of goblins.
And autism.

Not exactly "anime" but Thunderbolt Fantasy is pretty good and fairly Veeky Forums related

Holy god finally someone said it!

/tg forgot Berserk?

Old school but ruin explorers

Konosuba? I think i spelled that right.

Fuck man I ran an attack on titan based campaign. Mostly just the walls and giants lived outside them.

>No princess mononoke
>No X/1999
>No Fullmetal alchemist
>No Konosuba
>Has Sword Art Online
It's shit.

No, but OP said "good".

You wanna tell me why Slayers is nowehere in that image, faggot? Not even in comedy?

Slayers.

Oh, thank fucking god.

>What exactly do you mean by "Veeky Forums flavored"?
OP's just making threads asking about Veeky Forums and every other board.

I'm guessing the list is older then Konosuba, and X/1999 isn't High Fantasy. The rest are fair points, but then /a/ is known for having horrible taste in anime.

Look harder.

I'm fucking retarded. Ignore me entirely.

Not all TG is high fantasy; I added it because it feels like a campaign to me. But looking at the list again I guess you're right. My bad.

>Psycho-Pass
For a while I was trying to convert Delta Green into a Psycho-Pass system. The skills list and level of realism fit Psycho-Pass well, and the Sanity system could easily be refluffed/converted into a Crime Coefficient, complete with mechanical effects.
It was kind of an overwhelming project though, so I stopped.

>those characters in the image
No open trees?

bet you'd like Vermillion – Étranger à L'arc Rouge
