Old thread:

...

It's getting pretty fucking gross in the mortal realms.

To the dude asking about Ogres in the last thread: They are a brutal and punishing force if you can get them into melee. Ironguts will utterly crush almost everything they touch and if you have a Butcher backing them up they become real nasty pieces of work.

I'm an idiot an a newbie so please riddle mi this.
If I pick a unit of orruks with a pair of choppas are they making 2 attacks rather than 1 or it has to be distinctly and unequivocally stated on the unit warscroll that they have more attacks?
English is not my first language so please forgive me this stupid question

it gives them rerolls if they get a 1 to hit. no double attack.

Cool Blightkings, are they yours user?

Usually they will have a rule stating if they take a pair they get a benefit of some kind. In this case, they get to re roll hit rolls of 1

no, it's from a golden demon winner. They're featured in a white dwarf that I can't remember.

Okay, thank you guys. I was just unsure if the pair of melee weapons also automatically grants double attack or not

Is it worth the points to include artillery (WLC as ally, or plagueclaw against hoards) in a 1000 point pestilens army?

Just remember, if something they are equipped with doesn't have a special profile, it will have special rules on the warscroll

I haven't written a proper narrative for my current focus (Death) just yet, but the summary is.

>Once a kingdom that was stuck in the middle of a war between Chaos worshippers and orruks
>Fought to the last man trying to stop the destruction
>Prayed to Sigmar for aid, but none was sent
>The vast majority of the kingdom's population were massacred for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
>The court wizard studied necromancy in secret and raised the dead to guard what remained of the kingdom.
>At the request of the prince and the few remaining people of the kingdom, the Necromancer reached out to the powers of Death.
>Neferata answered, giving the offer of serving her in exchange for immortality and the power to enact revenge.
>The survivors agreed, being turned into vampires.
>They continued to raise the dead of their kingdom, even after the Chaos worshippers and orruks had long left.
>Driven by a desire to avenge their old kingdom, they build a new one and turn it against the forces of Chaos and Destruction for ruining their home, and Order for ignoring their please in their time of need.

They're going to be my army for a Path to Glory campaign starting this weekend, so hopefully I'll get some fun stories out of that.

Sounds like a solid background for a Death army. Looking forward to any tales you'll tell in the future.

Actually I was thinking about painting my Nighthaunt stuff with Nihilakh Oxide but with no Lahmian Medium. I will sacrifice them for paint technique testing

Still waiting for Tomb Kings

Thanks, user.

Don't hold your breath.

Hey guys, I wanted to get into 40k wargaming and needed some advise. I was going to try and be frugal and get an army of nurgle so i can use it in aos and 40k but i have no idea what to buy. What do?

Just hope that Agricultural snailbro is for both and buy him, because he is the best model from GW in years

Is this a good way to start Sylvaneth? Are they any good? Any guides for painting out there? Took my gf to GW and she loved the models so trying to get her into the hobby.

start collecting nurgle from triple helix wargames (assuming uk) and the death guard half of dark imperium from eBay. Should be around £80 total and a very tidy start

or the nurgle half of this new aos box game thats coming out soon

>Gf loves Sylvaneth
They are truly the Nids of AoS

buy SC and buy a tree or whatever the fuck they were called, the Sylvaneth wildwood shit You need the forests since abilities use those terrain pieces.

Plagueclaw for hoards, yes. they can devistate 10+ units, preferably with poor saves.

WLC for heroes, but i've never used one, probably not so good in a small game

My God, this is the ugliest model I ever bought. Don't get me wrong, I like goofy and hideous models - that's why I also bought the orc boyz kits - but these skellies are just terrible. GW truly has come a long way with its models since 2005 I see

You can buy two of those and can't go wrong.

Dryads are a good battleline, that you want to take in units of 20 or 30, and you will be using Treelord Ancients/Treelords a lot. Your average 2000 point army will have 2 or 3 giant trees.

The only part you will waste by buying two of those is the extra Branchwych, and I suppose you could use that for conversion fodder if you so desire.

So I'm thinking about getting my goat on and diving into Beastmen. This is what I've come up with:

Great Bray Shaman (General, Scion of the Dark Gods)
Great Bray Shaman
Beastlord (Herdstone Axe)
2x30 Gors
40 Ungor Raiders
30 Bestigors
2x3 Bullgors (Great Axes)
240 Summoning (Balewind Vortex & Jabberslythe)

Tell me, did you decide to go with Beastmen because of GHB17? I'm asking because 3 players in my LGS decided to start new armies and 2 of them are Beastmen and 1 is Wanderers and we have a new guy starting with nighthaunts. I'm quite suprised how adding the allegiance abilities makes minor factions not only playable but nearly sought-after

Are these "Pitched Battle Profiles" in the Genderal's Handbook the point costs for the units or is this like, pre-made armies?

You mean the points tables? There is no other point cost in aos beside unit cost, battalion cost and terrain cost (only some kinds of terrains cost points). You don't have to pay for weapons, spells etc. So these huge tables are just point values you have to pay for fielding units

Looks like forgeworld finally updated their listing to make more sense with AoS.

Through i'm not sure why the Rogue Idol is not in the Greenskinz listing.

To be fair I've always liked Beastmen, but I can't deny having allegiance abilities gives the crunch and flavour to tip people over.

* Forgot the image

cheers guys
might add a few glade guard too

This is what I mean. Does this mean it costs the same to have 10 gors as it does to have 30 gors?

Also, in AoS... are there no longer "army types"? Like, can I pick ANY units from Chaos, ANY units from Order? Do I have to stick to all Chaos, all Order, or can you mix? To what level can you mix?

Don't know about that user, but the allegiance abilities have lit a fire under my ass to complete projects I have been buying slowly because I thought they were cool, and are now seeing some support. I've had boxes of pestigors and a beastlord chilling in the closet for years (which I bought because faction was cool/sculpts were awesome), but am now actively scooping boxes of gors, ungors, etc. to flesh them out

> three models listed for Fimirach
> it's just a bundle of the other two models
REEEEEEE etc, etc...

The only thing you have are Battlelines.. you can go with any of the four Factions, chaos, order, death and destruction, but you can't mix destruction and death for example

It's the cost of every 10 gors. So 10 gors is 80, 20 gors is 160, 30 gors is 240.

You pay 80 points for 10 gors and 80 more points for every 10 more gors so you can end up with a unit of max 30 gors that costs 240 points.
>are there no longer "army types"? Like, can I pick ANY units from Chaos, ANY units from Order?
Yeah, you can pick any Chaos units for your chaos army but you will get more bonuses and stuff if you stick with some keywords. Let's say you want to build a daemons army. Sure you can take khorne, tzeentch and nurgle stuff but there will be nearly no synergy. If you stick with a KHORNE DAEMONS keyword you will get more abilities to use etc.
>To what level can you mix?
As long as you fulfill the minimum number of battleline units it's fine. You can mix 4 clans in your 1000pts skaven army as long as you can also field at least 2 battleline units

yeah why the FUCK don't they just release the Dirach? we have seen the sculpt, and it is all we need to make a viable list. I just imagine those FW tards sitting around prioritizing releases, noting that the fucking fimir warriors/noble just sit there, when people like me are holding off buying more because it seems like we'll never get a fucking HQ (I do realize they probably have exponentially more profitable shit to release, like yet more fucking skull robots for admech and whatever gold fuckers for custodes/SoS)

Is that max 30 gors in the entire army or just that one unit?

that unit

That's what I thought desu. It's heart-warming that everything it's needed to make most of the mini-factions playable is just slapping some fluffy allegiance abilities into GHB. On the other hand we all know that GW will not do it often and that's sad as fuck

>t. Greenskinz aficionado

Awesome.

Thanks again everyone. I'm readin through the rules and the general's book. It definitely seems far more simpler than what I am used to from 40k, and that battles can be over super quick. Just having trouble clarifying some things so every one here has been helpful :)

It's because everyone totally wants that Khorne dragon bro!!! Fucking Christ

yeah my two main AoS projects are beastmen and fucking gitmob grots, so I feel that. I'm not overly concerned with winning competitive tourneys or whatever, as long as I don't scoop bottom of T3/come out on top once in awhile

No problem, read the rules and feel free to ask. I'm playing for two years and I'm still learning something new every day
I'm playing mainly casual games but not gonna lie - the hobby is so much more rewarding if you feel that your dudes will get some update or a new model in future. I'm a skaven player so I can not complain about them but I also started working on greenskinz (I took the discount bait) and at this point they are even more deader than such factions as Nighthaunt or Slaanesh - this fucker was in exile since the AoS launch and somehow his dudes have more GW love than greenskinz. I know that IJ and BS are orruk posterboyz now but c'mon - a battalion or abilities for greenskinz will not hurt anyone

Hey guys, Skaven player here. I want to make up some movement trays but not sure if I should worry about making it a skirmish tray or a regular one. The bottom line is I want to be able to make smart formations out of my unit but don't want to make it so big (to include potential formations such as spearhead and line) that it's ridiculous in size. Anyone have a similar problem and/or can offer insight?

You want to make a lot of weird shit while pile-in with your rats so better go with something like this

I thought the idea with the points discount was that you only received it if you opt to go with the MAX
Example: Zombies are 60 for each increment of 10 but if you field a 60 model unit you only have to pay 320 as opposed to 360 saving you 40 points.

Is this not how it is?

Apparently they've moved literally all their sculptors but one off of interesting stuff and on to specialist games. Also the diarch was missing a hand.

Literally just did the exact same thing, user

Oops that wasn't actually what the user was talking about, but is what I'm saying correct?

Half of me agrees with the loud, froglike sentiment, but the part of me that wants to take the high road is going to do so by saying to myself, "At least this comfirms that they're going to do something with them EVENTUALLY

I'm not gonna fool myself into thinking finishing the Fimir line will ever be a priority, but I've been wanting the damn Balefiend since the stats for it came out with Storm of Magic six years ago. I know it takes a while for model lines to be completed, but then the fucks teased a mostly finished model that was only missing a hand and some finishing touches two years ago and haven't even mentioned it since. I get that they want to focus on what is making money, and I'm not even going to pretend that the Balefiend model will make the Fimir line any more profitable than it is, but this is literally the only thing preventing me from beginning to collect the fuckers.

Same. I'd also like them to make a command set for the normal fimir. It JUST needs to be an extra set of arms

>all these fimirfags

how do I stop falling for slow melee armies

I love them but they are so bad

You accept your tastes and learn to work around the limitations of the army you fell in love with

unless it's greenskinz

All I want from FW is for them to release some god damn BATTLETOMES for their shit like they did with 40k already

its like every army that has a basic troop with a shield, but no ranged units for some reason

Soon

Will the Aelfs get more attention soon? Lightsaber-wielding ninja High Aelfs? A firebending Phoenix organization?

That's no true.
Gitmob can get quite formidable shooting if you buff them with the shaman. The only drawback being their short range. Freeguild can get some good shooting as well as Dispossessed.

What was the formula for skirmish point values again? Unit cost/(5*unit size) ?

>slaves to darkness
both battlelines have shields and no ranged attacks in the whole faction outside of javelins on the horses

>deathrattle
no skeleton archers, or any other ranged attacks. Skeletal musketeers would be really cool, but no.

The Phoenix Temple is the scary regenerating/resurrecting faction of order.

>Deathrattle
>no archers
Umm excuse me?

Because you built them wrong.
If you use Vampire Count Skele Heads, the look awesome and taller than the current VC ones
I make 40 TK skelearchers using TK skeles and VC/AoS death skeleton heads and everyone likes them

they were an old tomb kings kit that is no longer produced or sold, and also the sculpts were really old. I guess they are still technically in the game though?

would anyone object to proxies for units where GW does not sell a kit?

Depends on if you are in a GW or how autistic your opponent is. I have actually encountered a human being who was not a GW employee who threw a shitfit when he found out the other player was using non-Citadel minis

my personal rule is that as long as there is no ambiguity it is ok. I've played against people who used proxies to cheat and it is really annoying

I would use proxies to smoke out the autists so you will later know who to not play against. Most of my Flesh Eater Court is going to be made from proxies.

If you guys had to choose which of the Aelven Factions would get a battletome, which would you choose?

order serpentis

When FW doesn't give you fimir, eventually you get desperate enough to start trying to make your own...or maybe that's just me

pic related but not mine

Yeah it happens every fucking time someone posts a pic from total war. It's enough to make you think there's a playerbase out there

Wanderers, probably closely seconded by Swifthawk Agents.

or you buy bizarre one-offs to scratch the itch and use them for rogue stars/nothing

There would be a playerbase if they actually had more than one unit

That's what I was trying, perhaps unsuccessfully, to say

After playing 40k for a while, I've decided to finally pick up some AoS. I skimmed and actually realy liked the Ogre Leadbelchers aesthetic. But I DON'T like the Beastclaw, Yeti aesthetic. Is the whole Beastclaw Raider thing quintessential to Ogres? Because if that's the case, I'd rather just ally in the units I like as Ogre mercenaries in a different army.

Not at all - gutbusters and etc are a viable way to play. You won't win any tournaments or anything but they have shooting and staying power, and more numbers than beastclaw

That's reassuring to know.
I don't suppose I can count on any new gutbuster releases to make the basic Ogre kingdoms more interesting to play? I doubt that Ogres are an army that are very high on the update list.

This. After seeing GHB2 make their battleline cost 20ppm more than the Order Draconis equivalent, I feel they deserve something more

Hell, I use proxies when they're cheaper than what GW offers. I'm running an 11-minotaur Warherd army, 1k pts and Bullgor Stampede. I just use Reaper Mini's Bones minotaurs, $2.50 each.

>picked up the old Brets v. Lizzads starter a while ago
>all of the models look awful
>Bret knights have all snapped plumes and spears
>Saurus are really static and look so different to modern sculpts
>mild regret

>Mfw GW could spend two days modeling a TK conversion kit in CAD ala Space Marine upgrade style, for people to change their VC skellies into TK skellies
>Mfw GW hates fucking money so bad it's unreal.

Dude, that was like.... 5th edition? 20 years old. Dated models, dated plastic.

Beastclaws were a surprise for everyone.
Nobody expected ogres then (and they popped up), nobody expects ogres now.
I don't know if this should give you hope.

...

...

What annoys me about this is that there isn't anything spectacular about killing a Stormcast since they always come back. It's retarded. It makes any tension just a non issue. Yeah I know that they lose a bit of their soul on each reforging but so far other than becoming literal robots that keep fighting, there hasn't been any negative downside to that shown so these guys are just boring and don't have faults.

>there isn't anything spectacular about killing a Stormcast since they always come back

They can only come back if a Lord-Relictor is able to catch their souls. Without a Lord-Relictor, they're just as vulnerable to death as anyone else.

Today, I am the faggot.

But we haven't seen just how risky that is. Maybe when Nagash/Death finally has some releases we can see that he's fucking up Stormcast hardcore. Right now however they are just too annoying with how seemingly undefeatable they are in any scenario, even WHEN dying.

Except you know, the actual battle. Each SCE death risks losing the battle, which does matter. Those battle can be over cities of innocents, realmgates, stopping a chaos horde, etc. It's not like when they die, they immediately come back. It takes time AND a finite amount of resources to bring them back. Sigmar won't be able to keep up the refogings forever. They are not like daemons.

The SCE have an attitude in battle that is not what you think. It's not like when they die they treat it as respawning in a video game. Because losing that battle is a big deal. They care for every mortal they fight for.
