Can you transition from the starting adventure in the basic set to one of the campaign books, or are the levels going to be off?

What are some good mini adventures or collection of mini adventures that can be done in a city?

What's a good magic item to give to a level 7 Glamour Bard? I want to give every party member something permanent that suits them. But on the other hand I want just give her a wand if lightning bolt because not every situation calls for a fancy support/control spell, sometimes you just want to shit out some damage. And since I'm running STK with 3 people and not changing encounters, I figure some extra damage can't hurt. What do you all think? Anything that would suit a Glamour Bard better for flavour? She does tend to use her looks to help her get what she wants.

Storm King's Thunder is specifically designed so that you can carry over from LMoP and other adventures, not sure about other campaigns though.

The DM had a Nalfeshnee named Rhino pop up twice in a campeign, cleric just banished him the first time and the second time the ranger beat him back to where he came from

Rank the adventure books.

Which book went into detail about the order of the gauntlet?

>If your intention is 100% about yourself at the expense of the dignity of all other sentient life, you are evil whether that mindset leads to genocide or only to being loud in a theater.
While his intentions for practicing Necromancy are entirely based on solving his own issues, there's no reason to believe he'd allow his undead to do harm to anyone else. If anything, he's more likely to use the undead to solve peoples issues rather than add to them.

Lads, I've got a bit of a problem. How do I destroy a culture? I'm not talking about a huge nation or a country, I mean about two hundred people or so.
I don't want to kill them or anything, I just find their ways abhorrent, and the gods they worship unacceptable. I want to make them more like us, you know, preferably in a single generation, since we're talking about long-lived elves.

If it helps, I hold significant power of them, being a baron and all.

Let's get controversial.

Class tier list. Either separate out subclasses or not, whatever. Most useful to least useful.

Can confirm I am an idiot
It's a weird amalgamation of power levels and my personal tastes

>sorcerer
>high tier

>Rogue
>lower than warlock

>tfw too many character concepts and no good reason to kill off my current character(s)

Rogue and Warlock should be in the same tier no matter what tier that is

Curse of Strahd > Storm King's Thunder > Out of the Abyss >>> Princes >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dragons

Is it a stupid idea to have archfey that is lord of spiders or do you guys think that is to close to Lolth?

Similar problem here, my friend.
Only I really like character progression and like to play all the way from 1-20. If I jump in at say, level 5, it's just not the same. I always like the "we're basically shit and could die from a strong gust of wind" levels.

Same.
Surely you realise you'd have the same issue even if you did get a new character to play.

I wish I had been able to play CoS under an experienced, seasoned, well-prepared DM instead of a bumbling-but-well-meaning first timer.

I really feel like I lost out.

They only seem "weak" because they invite comparison with the wizard which does the same kind of things but better. But when wizards are one of the best classes, being a shitty wizard is still pretty good.

I'm running Lost mines of Phandelver and decided to break up the monotony with the goblins in Cragmaw Castle. The goblin priest now has a couple of spells and I tried to homebrew something fun for the mess hall with the goblin head chef Yegg. The party is balanced and consists of 5 lvl 3 characters. I would apreciate it you all could take a look and give me your thoughts.

The fight wil also contain 4 goblin cooks that prepare the meals with their action and use giant cutterly.

Fey are often associated with dreams. Make them into a dreamweaver/catcher type patron. And how about they use literal fey spiders to weave dream catchers. And they're the reason you can never remember that sweet dream you had the night before. They stole it.

FULL COMMONER CAMPAIGN. Maybe allow an adept or nobleman.

>Druid
>God tier
What did he mean by this

That's kinda true. Personally, the reason I like sorcerers is because they can do themes rather well. Whereas even though wizards have schools, I feel like you certainly have to diversify.

For example, fire/ice mage is done best by a sorcerer.
Really, the best way to fix sorcerer is by just giving them expanded spell lists. Especially so that you can pick elements other than those two and have enough spells to fill up your kit with.

i agree with you, the problem, of course, is when you go to make a character and go "why am I not just a wizard?"

Druids are the tankiest motherfuckers in this edition, particularly at the levels that 95% of games are played

He meant if you're playing at level 2, or above level 10.
The mid levels, where most campaigns kinda sit around or end, they aren't super great.

Are you implying I'm wrong? The only class that beats a Druid is a Wizard, maybe a Bard depending on builds

While that is a great idea the dream aspect won't really effect the character I'm working on cause is an elf any other ideas would be great.

Sure but it could affect his party. They still do meditation and enter a dream-like state even if they're elves.

But anyway, tell me more. What exactly are you envisioning?

Are rogues really that shitty? I was planning on playing one.

Hello is this the thread where we get angry at warlocks?

>selling your soul for a cantrip
>cant even summon demons

>wizchad can

its not fair bros

I wish I had played Curse of Strahd with a DM as good as I am, instead of a bumbling faggot who thinks the point of playing this game is to turn Barovia into a Disneyland resort where people have the scheduled obligation of feeling epic epic

ELDRITCH
BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAST

>he plays D&D
say
the disgusting health system doesnt annoy you?

What exactly are you looking for? If you want skills play a bard, if you want damage play a fighter.

Rogues are great, there aren't really any "bad" classes, it's just that in comparison to spellcasters everything feels kinda lacking. Rogues are kinda boring in combat though

yeah I hate the NHS but what's that got to do with D&D?

What do you guys think about invocations that let the warlock cast-level appropriate spells from the linked UA a number of times per day equal to their CHA mod?

>media.wizards.com/2015/downloads/dnd/07_UA_That_Old_Black_Magic.pdf

Wizard chad laughs at your puny pea shooter of a cantip and casts punch on your familiar

I wanted to be a sneaky skill guy who also does decent in combat. Was thinking about Arcane Trickster to add a little magic to that too.

it uses it

Powerful firearms become ubiquitous. How does this affect each class?
Initial thoughts:
>Barbarian
Their damage now even weaker compared to other classes, barbarians become shock-troop disruption tanks.
>Bard
Bards use firearms until their cantrips catch up; valor bards may continue using firearms into later levels.
>Cleric
Clerics use firearms until their cantrips catch up. Divine Strike clerics probably don't need damage cantrips at all.
>Druid
Wild Shape's relative damage is nerfed. Druids either stick to guns and attack/utility spells or convince the DM to let them wield guns in ape form.
>Fighter
With many attacks and Action Surge, fighters become specialists in heavy firearms, or adopt a SWAT-style shield-and-pistol loadout.
>Monk
Monks become really bad, since their CC requires hitting in melee. Kensei might still be good?
>Paladin
If your DM allows smiting with ranged weapons, paladins definitely go for pistols. Maybe even two of them.
If not, they're still viable as shock troops with occasional damage bursts.
>Ranger
Rangers change very little. They just use guns instead of bows. Probably big ones, because ranger action economy likes bonus actions.
>Rogue
Melee rogues become less common (although still possible with a barbarian or paladin on the team). Ranged rogues change very little.
>Sorcerer
When not casting spells, uses a gun to attack, except when twinning cantrips. Switches to cantrips exclusively once they catch up.
>Warlock
Can you get a ranged pact weapon? If yes, probably still better to just spam Eldritch Blast, except when aiming to smite (assuming that's also permitted).
>Wizards
Same as sorcerers, except no twinning cantrips.

>muh wizaduh
Come at my dual greatsword wielding berserker broh

What of firearms do you mean?
Modern weaponry or dwarwn flintlocks and so on?

So can I get clarification on how Ritual Caster works, if I have 13 wisdom can I take wizard ritual casting and vice versa

Even the DMG's Renaissance firearms could produce some shift (1-handed 1d10 ranged weapon is no joke), but I was thinking closer to the modern firearms table. Something that really shakes up the melee/ranged balance.

I honestly think bards are better than wizards, or at lest equal.

>hold person
>portents you a 1
Your move Martial Cuck

The adults are a lost cause. Try to convert them through diplomatic means and they'll ignore you. Try to crush their beliefs and you'll only drive them underground. Execute their leaders or high priests and you'll only make martyrs.
Take the children under six years of age, and while their minds are still maleable, teach them the ways of whichever god seems best at the time. Release them back into the community en masse when they reach their twenties. The new generation is now your own personal zealot army, and their families can't do a single thing about it.

What happened?

You can take ritual Caster without pre requisite stats, but if that ritual has a DC or something, it is determined by that classes spellcasting ability modifier

>berserker
>hold person
dude...

Paladins would make good combat medics too. Durable enough to tank a few shots while reviving downed comrades, and their auras would be a huge aid.

>wizards
>knowing anything about how other classes work

pick one

Hey you just described (((universities)))

>immunity to fear and charms
>Hold Person is paralysis
dude...

Don't pick on the big meaty guy. He's a good distraction so you can do your thing.

All I realt want is find familiar on my druid so its all good

thats part of the meme lad

wizards are 200 IQ masterminds who know the perfect spell and move for every situation and have those spells prepared at all times

Since we can decide what we roll, I roll high enough to save on my turn so neither of us really did anything in the first round.

What's the most fun sorcerer/wizard build?

A barbarian with wisdom, no way
can beat my 20+ save DC with your MAD character

>sorcerer/wizard
this is like playing a warrior/barbarian

>not playing a muscle wizard
What's wrong with you?

I love this. Seems like a lot of fun.

Speaking of which, stone sorcerer seems like a pretty decent muscle wizard.

rogues have a solid base but WotC basically didn't bother with the higher levels of the class, so you have to be prepared to branch out. it's also a decent class to dip into for the same reason.

They are better.
Is an idiot who looks at the Wizard Spell list and goes "I can use any of these at anytime". I also have 2 1's on my Portent rolls since Divination is so OP XD.

>20+ save DC
Don't be ridiculous
We can't assume save DCs higher than 19 (8 + 5 (20 INT) + 6 (prof)) when doing hypotheticals like this

Which should I go with:

Bladesinger/Eldritch Knight
Bladesinger/Arcane Trickster

?

How deep of a warlock dip should a sorcerer take? Any suggestions on types? UA stuff is allowed

why are martials so bad
its not even fun
they should buff martials
this is not a rpg where melee only do thanking

Are you seriously questioning wizard chad user?

I personally prefer trickster.
EK is good for the absorb elements/shield meme in heavy armor if that's your thing.

...

Spells fly to and fro;
Who am I amongst giants?
A useless martial.

>tanking
dude i am analphabet.

>tfw no character concepts and many opportunities to make characters
Share some ideas, user

I wish Wizards gave clerics more options to be good at melee. I mean, sure, yeah, spirit guardians is fucking great and makes party's fighter really envious of me, but casting it in every combat gets stale after a while. Sometimes I don't want to AoE people around me, I just want to whack people really hard.
I wish there was a spell that made me really good at hitting people with a sword, even not as good as fighter.

I dunno, I quite enjoy martials.
When you start getting into high levels though, they do start feeling lesser.
However, I think if you've got a good DM they will start giving shit to martials to bring up their power level to also feel somewhat like gods, but in different ways. Which isn't a defense of the system, but just saying it can be helped massively by a good DM.

yeah i know
but there are some DM's with the mage fuck yeah mentality

Jesus, that's a long story.

Basically he was my AL DM back during the CoS season, and when he was under that very strict and rigid rails he was a very responsible and judicious DM, hell I owe him for teaching me the ropes on this game.

But eventually the season was done and the group decided that man it sure would have been nice to also do Curse of Strahd with the same characters, who were about level 7-8, and little did I know the guy took it as "permition to be" epic"" and the sudden lack of hard restrictions on HOMEBREW ruined the whole deal.

Every session is a fucking slog the guy has 0 Role-play proficiency and literally added grinding mils spots that do nothing other than" kill this, then kills this, then kill this and collect loot at the bottom" that would destroy us multiple sessions.

The group legit considers it a filler borefest if se didn't have a 3 hour combat encounter

And because my party members are people who legitimately said "I want to play a Druid because I want infinite wildshapes at level 20" I'm kind of stuck here out of Devotion for me dearly beloved character whom I intend to give a proper send off before never looking back

I'm already DM ing this adventure to a close group of friends and the drastic difference makes me want to weep.

War cleric magic weapon is pretty good desu.
Having +3 to hit and damage and then you've got your additional radiant damage. Shit feels nice.

Don't compare yourself to a fighter though. You're not, and you shouldn't be. Hitting hard in melee is the realm of fighters, rogues, and barbs. You get to be a full caster. Can't have it all, senpai.
