I also fell for the meme and tried listening to Sinatra, but I find him too slow and boring. Elvis has the drive and the action.
1992?!? The Space Wizards didn't emerge from the Black Hole Graves until March, 1994!
I use this for cyberpunk games:

Power metal.
Gamma ray, iron savior, iron Maiden, priest, blind guardian, Avantasia, edguy, glory hammer, star one, nightwish, etc.
Ethnic folk music, mostly Celtic though occasionally Australian or American.
Punk/rock with folk influence, the Pogues, the Tossers, real MacKenzies, etc.
Weird rock/vaguely techno stuff that I can't properly categorize because, as might be apparent, I know little about music. Protomen.
Dadrock (specifically my dad's)
Grateful Dead, Rush, Queen (he liked Floyd better)
R8&h8.

Let's add: sonata arctica, perturbator/lazerhawk, filk, Heather Alexander and Heather Dale and assorted scifi nonsense , Al Stewart, Frank Turner, Loreena Mckennit, and I'm awful fond of Basil Poleodouris' (sp?) soundtracks.
I'm a particular sucker for anything with cohesive lyrics that tell a story, or feel particularly skilfully written. Are about something. Al Stewart is great for that.
Saxon.
Sabaton, manowar.
Powerwolf.
Powerwolf, Alestorm.
Abney Park.
Blutengel. (Don't speak German though lol)
Demons and Wizards.
Let me be the odd user out and say I am obsessed with Motown, Atlantic Records, Marvin Gaye and everything Funk and pre-nineties soul.
Check out my dudes Heimataerde

I hadly listen to anything even vaguely Veeky Forums related.
Well, I like to listen to recordings of Tolkien's poems once a while, and rarely, viking era Bathory, some pagan/fantasy themed neofolk songs. I guess Hawkwind and BOC count as well since Moorkock lyrics, and Kyuss for having a name (but only that) stolen from D&D.
Basically "power metal" is a cheesy shit that can be divied into two categories. One that is bad in a funny way so you can ironically listen to it and laugh, and one that is so bad you just don't want to listen it ever.
t.nu-male
Tales from the Kingdom of Fife was the superior album desu senpai.
Instead of adding to the copious list of metal, I'll say Florence + The Machine has inspired several characters

The normiest of dadrock bands. Queen, Rush, Eagles, Van Halen, Billy Joel, ect ect.
Drum and bass (liquid, neurofunk)
Trance, mainly acid trance
Tech House
Doom metal (TON, Seventh void, APHND)
Tech metal
Melodeath metal
I listen to the metal when I'm out and about because it's less 'background music' than the electronic stuff that I put on for when I'm painting or playing vidya.
/mu/-core
I've been listening to a lot of Protomen, Gorillaz and to the some Elric inspird song by Hawkwind and Blue Oyster Cult. Veteran of the Psyhic Wars is fucking cool.
When Reggae starts having song about wizards fighting dragons, you let us know, man.
Slough Feg is into tabletop.

I'm planning on naming campaigns I GM for after song titles whenever I find a particularly fitting one - my first Black Crusade is going to be "Believer" by Imagine Dragons, my first Shadowrun is going to be "Dreaming" by Small Pools, and Changeling: the Lost is going to be "Stairway to Heaven" by The Beatles
Balls that's actually really epic
