"Hidden" gem incoming.

Any CEDH players here? What kind of shit you playing? Combo? Stax?

Also dont talk to me about sucking jason alts dick with that 75% shiet.

>Thread Question: What "hidden" gems have you discovered in old sets?

I sometimes find things in old sets I really like, but I really hate the old borders, so I end up not playing them. :(

>want to make a cycling deck
>almost all cycling cards are shit and there is barely any support

>What "hidden" gems have you discovered in old sets?
I mean, Gate to Phyrexia is a bit better, but I've surprised a couple people with this in my mono-B thinking their artifacts were safe.

Whhooaaaaaa that's fucking real???

Why has the metal penis a face which breathes cum?

I've posted about it a bunch of times here but I love this card if only for the surprise factor.

So how are you even supposed to build her? Just a BUG Rock deck?

Because Phyrexia.

>BUG rock deck
>Not BUG "You may play X extra lands each turn"

Anybody got any 5 color ideas?

>Prime, Sun, Grave, Inferno, Frost
Sun Titan in all white, the rest depends.

I need to remember to order one of those, I fucking love the idea of a black Essence Scatter/Remove Soul out of nowhere.

Lapse of certainty has been my most effective old card. I have 2 games that were won solely on the merit that they didnt play around my boros deck having counters.

> Thread Question

Any cards that will help in the early game while not being a whiff in a Maelstrom Wanderer EDH deck? I'm using a few 7 drops like Lay Claim and the cycling sandwurm but could use more/better ideas.

>Inb4 97 lands + kiki-jiki & pestermite meme

OC pic related

You like that? You'll really love this thing then. Also holy shit when did it hit $26?

The investors strike again.

They need to go fuck off to a real stock market and let us play our children's card games in peace

Some good shit right here, and it comes down really early.

...

>My playgroup fought my budget Edric deck for the first time.
>It is the Timmiest deck: play 1/1 creatures, draw cards, make 1/1 creatures really big, smash to win.
>I won handily on turn 6 because nobody else ever played a single creature.
>Now my group considers my deck "degenerate" because it won so fast.

Apparently, in my group "degenerate" means winning with a very basic aggro deck while everyone else takes 7+ turns to set up their intricate stax and combos...

(Pic related is of Spire Tracer and Treetop Scout on an open board)

>Padeem
This is good, I'll find a slot for him
>Darksteel Forge
This seems a bit too durdly for me, people in my meta love Return to Dust and Sylvan Reclamation a bit too much for me to want it
>Whipflare
It's been good to me, and a blowout vs some decks but i could see cutting it.
thanks user

Does anyone have some spicy tech for Titania/mono green land decks?

i don't know where else to post this: I'm going to the GP Metz this weekend (my first GP) and i'm wondering how much the Promo Tix are worth? How much for boosters or the average playmat?

is having a lot of enchantment ramp like Utopia Sprawl/Market Festival a bad idea?

playing Marath, trying to make my deck more reliable without dumping money into cards like Earthcraft (yet)

Rustoleium

That kind of ramp has advantages and disadvantages

Pros:
Can refund mana the same turn it's played
Access to 2 1-mana ramp cards, which are rare
Many have very good color fixing ability (dawn's reflection, weirding wood)
Untap land effects get double or triple value
Doesn't die to wraths

Cons:
Targeted land destruction can blow you out
Mass land destruction hurts you more than it hurts people ramping with rocks or dorks, but equally hurts people fetching lands
Mass artifact/enchantment/nonland permanent destruction hurts you more than those running land fetch

:c

Yeah that's a bummer, that's why I tend to enjoy having a god as my commander, or building the deck in such a way that the only role the commander plays is to eat removal and the rest of the deck is built to win assuming one less removal spell comes it's way

what are you playing that it draws so much hate? or is your lgs edicts.meta?

Value really depends of availability, just look at the SFM promo, it's so cheap because it was given out en mass.

yidris, i mean dont get me wrong i get it but being able to go off once would be nice

Post decks, bitch about other's jank

...

>me starting out in EDH
>spend hours optimizing my deck for max power, evaluating which cards will work and which won't, add as many ways to win the game as possible
>try my hardest to win while playing, planning my turns out as carefully as possible
>still mostly get rekt and mad

>me now
>deckbuilding
>go through cards and immediately evaluate them like "trash, trash, trash, good, trash" and throw together a list
>immediately gimp the fuck out of it by taking out the obvious wincons and staples, cut all the expensive cards because why even bother paying that much
>start playing it, spend most of my turns by sandbagging by copying solemn simulacrum 4 times in a row
>destroy, bounce or steal any actual threat anyone plays
>either eventually win by attrition because i have no other wincons in the deck or someone thankfully blows me out and i get to look like less of a tryhard

who /gotgud/ here

Wild growth and utopia sprawl are as important as 1 drop dorks imo.

Fucking love Zada decks. Copied cantrips make me erect

What's the best BUG/x commander/Commander pair for HEAVY ramp?

that reminds me of a story

>playing with randoms, some dude playing yidris
>can't remember what i was playing, but killed/bounced his yidris like 2-3 times in a row
>dude starts complaining that i'm being unfair
>explain him that the instant i let his commander stick, he will storm out and most likely win
>he gets all pouty
>decide to give him a break and let him swing once since he was already low on hand cards
>he storms off anyway

i can't even remember if he won, he just took a massive turn and i was just mad at myself for being such an emotional weakling

I don't know of any that directly ramp, but Damia should be closest to ideal

in theory, damia, since you get to refuel your hand every turn

but in practice, damia will get removed and you'll be sitting there all ramped out with your dick swinging in the wind and no cards to play

i didnt think mono red could be this fun

tasigur good stuff honestly

the funny thing is my yidris list doesnt even have storm cards, people just think it does

Nothing quite like going full Hiroshima with Chandra's Ignition with Coat of Arms on the field

Rebuilt my boy Jarad after taking him apart for years and damn do I remember why I love this deck

Ramp, kill stuff, reanimation, Living Death, a general I can get back for a small investment, and inevitability

Meren sucks eggs in comparison

...

There were only 4 giants in MM though.

Processors with Scarab God sounds like an incredible time. Do you use any mill, or is it more of an auxiliary thing?

Phenax, altar of the brood, altar of dementia. Not really any direct mills since they're not that good. If I go the mill route it's mostly with Phenax and tapping my 4/4s EoT targeting our mono Selvala or Phyzuri. Neither run old Titans

Very nice. I love to see a non-zombie decklist with him; His activated ability is great, but never sees any action.

i've built too much UG

I am afraid I might be geddin gud. My every deck has now 2-3 Infinite Combos and ways to tutor for them. I eventually have to make unoptimal plays just so I don't end a friendly game where people seem to be enyoing .

>current
Meren
Xenagod
Breya
Mizzix
Kemba
Edgar
Newzuri
Rakdos

>brewing
Scarab God, Unesh, Ur Dragon, og Ezuri

>want to build
new Pirate and Dinosaur legends

i have a skittles deck that only comes out when someone at the table is being a faggot and is only designed to kill that guy

>geddin gud
>playing tutors and infinite combos
>good
>this is your idea of skill

remember to run that hand hate senpai

nothing fixes combo babbies up like taking their hand apart from turn 1 onward with thoughtseizes and hymn of tourachs

good taste

its ok

>nice to meet you, im Johnny

would not play/10. goodstuff decks are the most boring

>>would not play/10. goodstuff decks are the most boring

literally none of my decks are goodstuff, unless you count running decent 1 dollar rares as goodstuff

Been fucking around with this for a bit, tell me how much it sucks
tappedout.net/mtg-decks/solkanar-demon-tribal-edh/

when you open 50 packs of HOU and don't even get a Nicol Bolas or god

whats the point of this greentext

Yeah, and the moon wasn't that pale and had a face, what's your point?

This shit is goofy in Gitrog

>Thread Question: What "hidden" gems have you discovered in old sets?

My Sek'kuar deck won a game finally and seemingly off its actual merits as opposed to my opponents killing each other.

I cast Wake the Dead to help me set up and on my turn, I got to use Ambuscade Shaman and Swift Warkite. I won with jank!

Guys, the deck obviously still needs work, but I might be able to keep it janky and not make it a boring worse Prossh deck!

When you open 10 packs of HOU and get a foil Nicol Bolas in the 7th one

That's your deck getting gud.
Besides
>skill in luck based game
Best thing you can do to minimise luck is to run tutors. I realize that this is a bait post, but how are infinites any less skillful than smashing face with 400000/400000 craterhoof?
Skill caps here at the point where you can completely understand what any card does and how it interacts with other cards and why do certain cards go infinite with eachother

How does Wake the dead help you set up for your turn at all?

pls die seriously just die
I ain't even kidding

I dont know how much ramp or lands to run in my 5 color dragon deck. I plan on running 5 tarkir fetches, 10 shocks and all 10 trilands and I dont know whether I should count things like Ramos and Savage Ventmaw as ramp cards as well.

welp

tappedout.net/mtg-decks/20-08-17-dragons/

I got Disciple of Bolas and Sprouting Thrinax back, drawing me three cards and getting saprolings.

In those three cards were a Swift Warkite and a Goblin Bombardment (which I get is more Prossh-y and less janky, but it wasn't strictly necessary).

I think deck design, understanding, sequencing, curves and reading plays and board states are also a skill

>Ulamog the ceaseless hunger
Basically colorless mana ramp Eldrazi goodstuff with a side of every colorless tutor, board wipe, and mana rock. It's pretty fun, but I end up having to just play Ulamog the instant I have the mana just to prevent others from comboing off, which leads to 1v3 against me. Flavorful, fun, but I usually lose.

I might switch the commander to Ulamog's old version. The annihilator 4 will probably help more.
>Sliver overlord
Sliver tribal toolbox. At first I would just try to race to infinite combo, but now I just try to protect my Slivers as much as possible. I cannot wait to get ahold of all these new tribal spells and see how they break Slivers!

Millennial Pleb

Give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he means white borders
If not though, fuck him

Think Ramos could work as some wacky 5 Color Cascade/Good Stuff deck?

>opening hour of devastation

you deserve it

I don't see why not

>I cannot wait to get ahold of all these new tribal spells and see how they break Slivers!
Honestly, considering how efficient Overlord is at assembling combos and dominating the board all of the Kindred cards seem very win-more.
Summons is really fucking expensive, and if you already more than 6 slivers on the board you should already be in the lead.
Same goes for Charge.
Boon is really just a bad Hivelord that you can't tutor.
Dominance is also really expensive but can swing the game. However you might as well be playing In Garruk's Wake, only two mana more and hits planeswalkers as well in case you don't have much on your board or are being prevented from attacking.
Discovery is really the only one I can see fitting in and actually doing work.

Herald's Horn will also be a great addition.

So since the complete decklist for C17 came out, I've been wondering, if you have a Phage the Untouchable on the field and Fractured Identity it, will I just win assuming noone can stop themselves from getting the token?

yes

damn that's spicy

Same work for Leveler and like another dude I forgot.
You won't have to worry about your library being removed since they'll be the one's drawing first.

The main ones I was considering were summons and discovery really. Summons more or less gives you the mana right back if you have a mana sliver up (if you don't it's still more effective summoning than what you can accomplish with 7 mana otherwise). Discovery is just card value.

Holy shit that's tight.

You could have bought all the gods and Nicol Bolas for less than the cost of 50 packs, chico.

>Futuresight
>old set

It's been a decade. It's an old set, gramps.

I could use a deck like your Skittles list. Care to share? I've got one fag who's been showing up with higher power shit to the LGS lately and I don't want him starting an arms race.

>considering any set with the new border as "old"
Fucking children. I bet you can't even drink yet.

>future
>old
Until they reprint Tarmogoyf, etc it is still in the future.

Tarmogofy was future shifted from it's reprint in Modern Masters.

i made a shitty 5 color spirits list
should I post?

As with most lists posted here, literally no one will read it.

Just post like, the card you're most pleased with. Nothing tribal is really tech, but what do you feel good about discovering.
