genestealer cults. ez.

Yeah the best way to do it is by impregnating every female to birth new generations of aliens, the goal is to have a giant planet made out of nothing but Tyranid's breeding more nids.

The perfect race for that asshole how sits on his phone and never participates unless it's combat.

>SKREEEEEEEEEEEEE!
I roll to hit, d20?

The tyranid player controls like 20 characters but they all have extremely basic rules and abilities compared to the human characters.

This. Gene stealer infected/cultists

That is somthing I am looking forward to in the new RPG: Xenos Campaigns.

FFG was really remiss by not releasing at least and Ork-based RPG.

This. The GM tells the players what to do and how to do it, and they roll dice and go back to their phones and computers. It's the perfect rollplay race.

Zoanthropes.

>A campaign of Ork PCs
>Anything an obnoxious memefest of high-larious accents and LOLrandumb
I mean, if you think that's fun...

"I roll to rape, kill and eat the other players, not in that order."

Tyranids are an NPC race.
PCs need to stop appropriating NPC culture.

"Me, me, me, me, as well as the other fourteen me's, surround and eat him."

You have to mime the actions.

>GOOD MORNING FELLOW HU-MAN OF FERTILE AGE.
>ARE YOU CURRENTLY BONDED WITH ANOTHER HU-MAN IN THE PROLIFERATION OF HU-MAN CHILDREN?
>HAAAAA HAAAAA JUST CURIOUS HAAAAAAAA.
>OH NO YOU STRUCK MY ANTENNA WITH YOUR LOWER LIMB JOINT WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT.

>Implying "talk in silly voices and break things" wouldn't be an awesome "Beer and Prezels" campaign.

It's almost like you have a pathological aversion to fun.

I think I have far too much fun to have a pathological aversion to it. But like I said, if you think that's fun...

>Implying that doesn't describe just about every single RPG campaign EVER.

>I didn't read the OP

>Now I'm going to samefag

Technically they are not even a race. They are single organism.

Just read Deff Skwadron for reference. PCs being sme kind of specialist orks that their boss sends on different missions with minimal oversight could work really well.

Savage and ferocious in demeanor, cold and calculating in nature, the way that can only be approximated to human mind as monomaniacal psychopathy.
In a way they would be the galaxy's true communists.

>not wanting to take on feats of daring madness as a stormboy
>not wanting to be part a warboss' bodyguard jostling for position with the other nobs
>not wanting to be a team of dead kunnin kommandos
>not wanting to hunt for the most flash loot in the whole galaxy as freebooterz
Mate far be it from me to tell you what to like but shift your brain out of first gear, eh?

It's super easy. Be a jeanstealer. You are now the Tyranid version of [insert action movie character]. Also, you have to be stealthy about being a genestealer in the first place.

>I don't like the idea of Paranoia: 40k

This is the go-to answer. Genestealer Cults are a great option for not!Black Crusade. Follow your Patriarch and Magnus's orders, along with your Lieutenants, and do the subtle work of the genestealer cult, which includes a lot of shady work and assassinations, as well as avoiding the Inquisition, Arbites, and anyone else with a vested interest in killing xenos.

Endgame is always everyone going crazy and embracing the horrible death the Tyranids grant them or fighting in one last defiant moment before getting cut apart, and then everyone gets stuffed into the digestion pools.

I fail to see how this could even be a problem.
>combat-oriented campaign
I roleplay as a Lictor stealthily sucking the brains off people, Geof roplays as a Carnifex charging everything, and so on

>non combat-oriented campaign
undercover hybrids

>mixed party
Hahahahahahaha

Unless you want to do mixed parties as a baseline, with orks, eldars, imperials and cultists as PCs in the same game, why would you ask yourself such a question?

...

I would play the fuck out of Deffwotch.

You can play Rogue Trader with nothing but Ork (or Dark Eldar) characters.

There are numerous ways.

>Genestealer cultists either working against the party in secret or in a party of cultists preparing an overthrow.
>Lictor who was separated from its fleet by the rift, now working with other races in a desperate attempt to get to the other side of the great scar. Due to consuming numerous brains, it can understand and roughly mimic speech
>Zoanthrope able to communicate telepathically with other members who is forced to cooperate with the humans they were once attacking when the world they were on got turned into a Daemon planet. The Zoanthrope isn't attacked as it's Shadow in the Warp allows for areas around it to enjoy a relative normalacy compared to the ever changing reality of the Daemon world.

Only as Genestealer Cultists.

If they went as typical Nids, then it would be all about eating.

>role play
>40k

Is that even possible? Every faction is like a bunch of robots. They're all following their own script to the letter. Humanity purges, Chaos spreads, Nids consume. What can you play differently without going wildly outside of canon?

>I've never actually read the lore

Tyranids are ripe filled with emotions and critical thinking, such as:
"I'm hungry"
"I'm really hungry"
"Jesus I need food"
"Holy fuck I want food now"
"Hey, there's food"
"Hey guys, lets get food over there."
"Fuck it, swarm and eat it."
"I'm hungry again."

Nobody over eighteen has that much free time

>What is Dark Heresy
>What is Only War
>What is Rogue Trader
>What is Deathwatch

Bro, there is more to 40k than memes bro.

>I'm over 18 but still come to conclusions about stuff based on superficial qualities and memes

>Nobody over eighteen has that much free time
>But they have enough time to play RPGs and bullshit on Veeky Forums

Where do you think we are?

user, you need to be 18+ to use Veeky Forums.

My knowledge on tyranids is limited so forgive any flaws in my idea. You could probably get away with role playing a non-genestealer class as a deceptively clever beast that only acts stupid when hungry(well, hungrier), severely injured, or frenzied in combat. Think xenomorphs that have be relegated to a leadership role by a queen in a movie or game such as subject 6 or the one that killed its broodmate to escape containment in the abortion that was resurrection.
It's also not too far fetched to assume that each individual has the ability to access the collective knowledge of the hive mind and, with enough time, could sit back and try to pick out specific memories the hive mind has accumulated over the years for a temporary knowledge boost about a specific subject if the situation calls for it, no?

I'd just play them how russians normally play MMOs

iirc the lore is specifically:

>Mindless, vicious animals unless connected to one of the smart ones

Not sure if this has ever been discussed but what exactly does the Hive Mind "sound" like. Do the Tyranids just behave instinctively like animals, with the hive just commanding them, or are they actually a gestalt consciousness? I feel like this is some unexplored rping territory. Maybe the players should roleplay collectively as if they're one character, voices of a mind that literally contains trillions. Maybe in a sense, every Tyranid is disposable because their consciousness has melded into one and their bodies are merely physical tools to achieve things outside their mind. In that respect, Tyranids are immortal. No matter how many you kill, the collective hive is alive and well. The Hive is the individual and vice versa. At least this would justify nonverbal group coordinating that goes on in rpgs. If you have players that are smart enough to do that

Because players have historically had so much difficulty portraying mindless murder-hobos that do nothing but kill and feast...

>what exactly does the Hive Mind "sound" like

>but what exactly does the Hive Mind "sound" like.
A horrid and omnipresent chittering sound that continually rises in volume with no meaning, beginning, ending, or breaks save the peace of death IIRC.

So something like an internet comments section.

is that official or fanart?

either way its cool and scary

Why doesn't the Imperium just make Astropaths broadcast Sabotage?

A fanart. Pic related is the original.

That TTS spin-off was really good and made me gain a respect for the nids.

Who has the 40K RPG rights, now?

Ulisses. I heard they got some of the people who worked in the FFG ones to help them.

The Hive Mind, according to a short story about a Farseer from Craftworld Iyanden trying to see if she could control it somehow, is weirdly both the gestalt will of trillions of living creature as well as a single unified mind with it's own interests and even feelings. When she trespassed into the Hivemind she freaked out because she noticed that when the Hivemind noticed her presence, and focused on it, it wasn't looking just in her direction, or just toward her Craftworld, it was looking directly at her, and it was angry, at her specifically. Trillions upon trillions of individuals were all focused on her sole person and they were all pissed.

Because in the grim darkness of the far future so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned, and the Beastie Boys are among those lost wonders of art and technology.

So there's a short story about an Eldar finding out what everyone else in the galaxy really thinks about them specifically.

Hi, reddit

Drunk as fuck?

Something like this?

*Chaos teleports behind you*
Pfft, nothin' personal, hive.

>TTS spinoff
Where?

youtube.com/watch?v=Ep_1k-lOto8

youtu.be/Ep_1k-lOto8
Here's the video. It's from "If the Emperor had a Text to Speech Device". Probably one of the funniest thing I've ever seen 40k related.

Fuckin hive mind.

It's not hive mind if it's almost two minutes apart.
It's also not hive mind if it's linking someone to what they asked for.

A lictor strain solo-hunting/gathering info for the upcoming hivefleet invasion.

How exactly do Tyrannids and the Warp mesh? Wouldn't Tyrannids simply close up any rifts that tried to open near them due to Shadow of the Warp?

It would be a challenge, of course, but not entirely different than coming up with something for an intelligent animal to do. People have written stories from the perspective of dolphins, dogs, and pigs with varying levels of anthropomorphism, and role-playing isn't too far removed from that.

If anything, the player would just have to learn how to react to an environment that might be alien to them, and how to effectively use non-verbal cues with other players. Being linked (however faintly) with billions of other minds just provides further potential for creativity. Or maybe the Tyranid is cut off from the Hive Mind by an unforeseen circumstance? What if the Tyranid is a member of the species that's meant to function further apart from the whole, like a Genestealer or a Lictor? Both are characterized by as being more intelligent than they'd seem. What about Genestealer Cultists?

I'm actually pretty hyped by the whole thing.

All I know is, Hive Fleet Leviathan went from 'tendrils appearing all over the galaxy because they're coming from below the plane' to 'all of it is in exactly one location at Baal and then the warp storm showed up and Chaos ate them all the end.'
No idea how that works; I've heard someone say it's justified because the Tyranids previously had a similar asspull victory over Chaos, but that still doesn't really make any of it make sense.

This is retarded, if the nid fleet was this enormous, it'd have collapsed into a black hole several times over already.

> Someone is pissed they can't have a dong twice the diameter of the entire Milky Way galaxy.

Also Narvhal's can compress space time such that Tyranids can overcome the Chandrasekhar limit. You know, because gravity corridors and stuff.

By being lewd.

It's 40k, nids couldn't even exist in the first place realistically. The setting runs on "This is a cool idea.....OK, now let's just throw together a bullshit explanation for it"

I wouldn't think it's a solid mass but made of many smaller things. It's probably not visible since it would emit no light.

But why would the whole thing have eyes? It looks dumb.

while these picts are really cool, the scale of it always bugged me. By the reckoning of this image, the thicker tentacles are several times larger than our galactic center, the largest known black hole (which has an estimated mass of 4.5 million solar masses). This means the 'nids should have collapsed under their own weight a long time ago and formed supermassive stars by this point. That being said, maybe they're using some kind of 4th dimensional physics to support what would normally be impossible structures.

I have an idea, but its a bit complicated, and unconventional in the extreme.

The GM will have to prepare a Target world, let's say for example this is an Imperial hiveworld but a minor out of the wag one. He'll make a number of characters that you'd find on planet as if making an adventuring group, and these will act as "boss" enemies and objectives to take out; these will include things like the Planetary Governor and his bodyguard, notable Guard units, any Inquisitors or Deathwatch killteams on the planet at the time. The GM will also need to do a short write up on objectives to destroy lik power generators and Void shields on planet.

Now, the Players will all act as nodes of the Hive Ship's will that's coming to take this planet. You're a small splinter fleet so you only have a few ships, but they're enough to overwhelm the in-system fleet. Characters will use the bestiary to pick synapse creatures along with a limited selection of horse creatyres, and will drop onto the planet to fight for objectives against the characters the GM has set up aling with Guard mobs and etc.

If the players are successful they gain experience which they can use to upgrade organisms with feats, evolving them.

I think you could even use this model with the current Deathwatch books, but how does this sound?

It's fanart you retarded morons.

No shit, doesn't mean I can't think user is retarded for calling it unrealistic.

Space Marines eat brains to absorb memories.

The Starcraft comics had an interesting take on the bugs.

One issue is a story about a protoss, a human, and a zerg told all at once with the final page being the three coming to combat in a splash page.

The zerg was about a zergling being born, immediately getting into a fight with its sibling and fighting to the death, getting into a charging horde, and going straight for the battle.

So...roleplay it like an angry animal?

Why would you want to roleplay a Tyranid?
It's like roleplaying a gelatenous cube

>By the reckoning of this image, the thicker tentacles are several times larger than our galactic center, the largest known black hole (which has an estimated mass of 4.5 million solar masses).

But the largest black hole is S5 0014+81 and that is estimated to have a mass of forty BILLION solar masses.

The Leviathan one is just to show its approach in an artistic manner.
For one thing, I doubt it really is passing through the galaxy for a few [insert massive unit of distance here] only to turn back after realising they missed it.

It is unrealistic even by 40K standards.

Genestealer cultists could be pretty fun.

Sabotaging Imperial infrastructure, recruiting new members through mind control, trying to interpret the whims of the hive mind by the way the Patriarch's stomach gurgles.

It'd be at least as fun as Chaos.

So, will these just be generic systems with a 40k veneer?

Those tendrils aren't solid; they're made up of billions of bioships. They just look solid from that far out.

Much like the galaxy looks pretty solid from far away but 99% of it is empty space.

As opposed to the general mindset of the average modern RPG player

"I want some loot"
"I really want some loot"
"Jesus I need loot"
"Holy fuck I want some loot now"
"Hey some loot"
"Let's kill that boss guys"
"More dots, loot it"
"I want some more loot"

...

They play as larger tyranid organisms that are capable of independent thought, they communicate with each-other through synapse. It's not that complicated.

And also genestealer cults.

you kill then eat, or viceversa, or kill and eat at the same time. that's tyranid tactical flexibility for ya.

Why the fuck would you eat something after raping it? That's just disgusting.

Because you can't rape something after eating it.

>d20
T R I G G E R E D

the nid's FTL travel uses gravity manipulation and they store their harvest in pocket dimensions, that shouldn't be a problem for them.

The new game:

>Everyone is Hive Mind

genestealer cults have more roleplay potential than space marines.

Can't wait for this to come out, its gonna be the launching point for space skaven

There are still leviathan nids in octarius, however the "main" tendril was defeated by warp storm
