Does Christianity or any form of Abrahamic faith still exist in any way in 40k?

Does Christianity or any form of Abrahamic faith still exist in any way in 40k?

Given how similar it is to the Imperial Cult and the existence of human immortals

No. The Imperial Cult emerged after Emps went around and destroyed every religion on terra.

No. Why worship Jesus when you can worship a giant warrior swinging a sword of fire? Christians wish they had chaplains like this.

In 30k old Olly P says he's the last Catholic.

Olly Pius was a Catholic. I mean despite being an immortal dude that fought in every war in human history. Despite knowing the Emperor personally. Despite knowing about the powers of Chaos. Olly remained faithful in Jesus.

I guess that proves that Christianity is one true religion.

Even if it survived all the way up to the founding of the ecclisarchy, it would have been manipulated quickly into the teachings of the church like all other religions at the time and found later.

Any religion that resists is stamped out brutally , which works in 40k. Not so great in real life but the rules change once you cross that threshold.

Making Ollianus Pius into an immortal sure killed my interest in him as a character.

Olly, the last faithful man in the universe, will give up his immortality and sacrifice himself to save the life of the ultimate atheist. It makes him a Christ-like figure. I mean who understands the virtue of sacrifice better than a Christian? It's hella a poetic

Thank you. Came here to post this. The Imperial Cult is just Catholicism 2.0, anyway.

Nah see, the whole point was that some random, normal ass human stood up to defend the emperor, standing up to Horus.

It was dumb when they made it a custodes that did it for a while and it's just as dumb if Ollianus is some fucking immortal badass.

>I mean who understands the virtue of sacrifice better than a Christian?
Literally any follower of any religion that still offers regular sacrifices. In short, not Christians. Dropping a twen-spot in the collection try is not "sacrifice".

wrong

No, it kinda did. One of the last thing he did before leaving Earth was destroy all the churches. Emperor worship came about because of Lorgar later on, but it did come after.

He was also born in 15,000 B.C.. How you bother caring about Jesus resurrecting when you're 15,000 years old already, I don't know

I think they should have been 2 separate characters,I'm interested in them both

Olly's character should have been fused with John Grammaticus, giving him the story role of Grammaticus with Olly's personality and backstory.

Ollanious Pious should have been a regular Imperial Army guy whose hardships we track over the course of the HH series, until he finally makes his sacrifice on the Vengeful Spirit.

BL is taking the Jesus metaphor a bit too far though. Olly is apparently already aware of his fate and the sacrifice he must make, just as Jesus knew from a young age that he'd be sacrificed.

Malcador has a copy of the Torah in his hall of artifacts. He even quotes it to an Arab guy. I like to think Malcador was playing his own joke, laughing to himself as he quoted jewish scripture to an arab, not knowing that thousands of years previous it would have caused a chimpout

Magnus quotes the Book of Genesis and says how it represents fear and superstition. Tzeentch later mocks him for thinking he knew better than the writers of the bible.

So it was sort of a fedora-anti-fedora moment

It's heavily implied that the Emperor was Jesus anyway.

book of revelations*

Aside from Ollanius Pious and whatever scraps of it survived into becoming the book of Lorgar, no. The Emperor explicitly went around destroying EVERY church and temple on earth like an autist. There's even a terrible short story about it where the Emperor doesn't look nearly as clever as the writer thinks

If Jesus had a flaming sword and wiped out an entire Roman Legion, then a lot more people would read the Bible.

Flaming swords are common as weapons of
biblical angels

You do realize this is explicitly how Jesus is described as returning in the time of Judgement, right?

"The armies of heaven, dressed in fine linen, white and pure, follow Him on white horses. 15And from His mouth proceeds a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with an iron scepter. He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God, the Almighty. 16And He has a name written on His robe and on His thigh: King of kings and Lord of lords.…"

Jesus was a pacifist hippy and that's what made christianity succeed
If he were a badass warrior then he'd just be lost in the crowd of pagan warrior gods

That's fucking dumb. Sounds like more shitty lore Dan Abnett farted up without paying attention to the setting.

More correctly, the Romans would have fucking murder-slaughtered him, like they did all the OTHER messiah's. There's a reason why Punchas Pilote jokes about the Jews producing messiah's by the sackful. The Jews believed anyone who would deliver them from Rome and restore Israel was the Messiah. Jesus resisted having a hopeless war against the Roman occupation thrust upon him, and this combined with his challenging of the social conventions is why the Israelites first loved, then eventually turned on him.

If you read scripture, it's actually quite rare that Jesus admits to being the Son of God - he does, of course, but he tap-dances around the Roman issue like a mother fucker because he couldn't win.

This is also why the Jews still do not believe Jesus was the Messiah, whom they still wait for - he didn't deliver them from and destroy their enemies

a pacifist hippy who beat people with whips

wouldn't that make Hitler their messiah because he killed the guy holocausting them

took a second to figure out what you meant

But no, because he only indirectly brought about Israel

> he hasn't watched the documentary series Hunting Hitler and doesn't know that Hitler died in Argentina, twenty years after the war

israel was fairly inevitable with the Zionist movement at the turn of the century.

While it's true WW2 did increase sympathy for Jews, there still would have been a Jewish revolt by militants in the levant that still would have probably defeated the Arabs. Western aid to Israel was minimal to non-existent in the war that actually created it, and Britain/US actually aided the Arabs.

but this is off topic I guess

If that's the same story I'm thinking of, I thought the entire point of was Emps is an arrogant asshole?

>Western aid to Israel was minimal to non-existent in the war that actually created it
Having veteran soldiers from Allies and Red Army helped Israel much more than any material aid.

Its retarded that a regular human was walking around the Vegeful Spirit, a place that even the Primarchs were having problems dealing with.

Maybe? Contrary to popular belief, the imperium doesn't hold dominion on all human worlds. There could be a human planet (or migrant ship[s]) somewhere still practicing abrahamic faiths.

>Making Olly an Immortal
Fucking ruined the character.

He was the symbol that one ordinary man can alter the course of history with just the will to do the right thing.
Against all odds, against the gods themselves all it takes is the decision to hold the line and die standing.

they fucking ruined that.

I disagree. Him being there for major wars etc was great.

yeah, if you had it for any other character and not named Ollanius Pius.

Agreed.

No it isn't, the whole point of his character is that that ship was full of gods and demigods and demons and heroes and there among all that glory was one simple man who with his lord fallen behind him stared down the gods themselves and said

"No. You move."

it's retarded any imperial army personnel got there, too, but that's never stopped 40k from doing things weird nonsensical things against the odds.

The Emperor isn't an atheist

he knows that gods are real

It's more Maltheism.
Or perhaps an Anti-Theism, in which he rejects the divinity of the gods in the first place.

it really all ties into what definition you have for a god.

Are gods just uber powerful entities? Are they omnipotent? etc.

No it's not, it's fucking stupid.
The concept of perpetuals as a whole is completely retarded and they don't add anything at all to the setting.

I unironically wish that we had them in real life and that worshiping the Emperor was a real thing.

My life would actually have meaning then.

Daily reminder that the Emperor is the psychic gestalt of shamans and Chaos is neither eternal nor omnipotent.

wait, that was euphrate keeler? I thought it was just some random guardsperson having a chat with him.

He's Agnostic

why is he so thin?

>The concept of perpetuals as a whole is completely retarded and they don't add anything at all to the setting.
This. It's like time travel. Some people would absolutely love it but it always ruins the story that wasn't created with this concept in mind.

He is still a pretty swell guy

Should've given him the LOTD treatment.

Pius time travels to M23 in the short stories. So he is both Immortal AND time traveling (with companions who aren't...and an Alpha Legionaire.)

Christian here, can confirm

A boring human getting in over his head and getting obliterated for it isn't as interesting as you think it is.

If that's what you get from the story, then no wonder you have shit taste.

Boring giant superdudes and space marines are not as interesting as you think they are

Your soul has no poetry, user.

for me

You can:

Its called voting for Trump in 2020

>Jesus the white shooting swords out of his mouth and making wine REALLY angrily
fund it

No, the author is just that tone deaf. He gave a signed copy to Richard Dawkins as a gift. Dawkins very likely said "What the fuck is this drivel?" or something

I bet you're a Fedora wearing Atheist who wouldn't even get pussy when he's the last man on earth.

Dude that's literally saint michael.

Eh, as long as they recognized that their God is the Emperor and they managed to not be discovered during the Great Crusade, then yea, it's possible that an Abrahamic cult can exist within the Imperium.

No catheric not catholic
In the art he has a cross with an arc over the top
It's a nebulous faith mainly about unity but with a God

Read up about ollianus
He is basically a human doctor who so he dies and regenerates
And in one of those regenerations he was a Muslim Iraqi

Emps isnt a roided up supersoldier like the Primarchs and the Space Marines, he's a scaled up human. And with his psychic powers and advanced tech he wouldn't need to be super buff anyway.

Agnostic means not being sure about there being some higher power. Space Stallone would have known that gods are just very powerful beings

with his psychic powers, he can make himself look like whatever he wants, too.

actually the turn the other cheek bit at the time was a daring social move, as it would require the person doing so to use his other hand for the second slap(thus confirming the 'victim' as an equal) or use his off hand which was shameful.

That is beautiful.

Or offering to carry a load for twice as long, as that would indebt the other person.

Religion evolves with history, just like any other aspect of culture.

40K is set 38,000 years in the future. Humanity has not only spread out into the stars, it's fractured into countless civilizations across worlds that have gone millennia without contact with Earth. There are entire species that are offshoots from humanity.

In a setting that vast, there could feasibly be any type of human civilization in existence in some corner of the galaxy. There could be a planet that has the only existing STC that creates copies of the Bible, or one where it's Christmas every day, or a Slaanesh cult that calls Slaanesh Allah.

The Imperium is a very specific culture and Christianity isn't a part of it. The closest you get is High Gothic, which is similar to Latin.

Died out. Sorta held up in some backwater regions but dismantled by the Emperor.

>buzzwords
nice

>Religion evolves with history
Are you sure, user? It's M3 and religion has been dying for quite some time.

>No it isn't, the whole point of his character is that that ship was
What ship?

Define "dying" in this context for me.

Losing its grasp on life and slipping into cold embrace of death

>implying jesus wasnt one of the emperor's many forms

>a lot more people would have read that one book that has been read, in some form or another, for almost 2000 years
They print more than 100 million copies a year.

Not the Imperial Cult itself, but there are theories that the Machine Cult is a descendant of Abrahamic religion in the setting, especially given the trinity which includes the Emperor.

The Imperial cult and endorsed sects are the only religious belief that wont get you killed off of a very small group of planets that are being allowed to develop while imperial agents and adepta sororitas groom them for conversion to the imperial cult and induction into the imperium.

Christianity, and other Abrahamic faiths died a death, especially on earth, the least reason for which is being anti human and teaching that mankind was unclean as a fundamental belief (sin). Teaching that human beings are unclean or tainted as a matter of birth by the sin of another is completely against the teachings of the imperial truth. Every human being is sacred, in the imperial cult. The human form its self is sacrosanct and pure. So perfect that deified machines the size of hab blocks are built in its image.

The imperial cult wants you ignorant, wants you unquestioningly loyal and dedicated, wants you to look at knowledge with revulsion, but it does not and never has told anyone that they are tainted for anything they didn't do, short of being born a mutant (and literally physically tainted by Chaos as a result.)

It's a faith founded by atheists in the most Humanity Fuck Yeah period of time in history, built upon by generations of people who were raised atheist or a myriad of heathen cults divorced from Abraham by almost 35,000 yearss and made small steps toward religion again, as a result questioning the words of a being that claimed not to be a god while walking, talking, quacking like a god.

You shouldn't de so certain of that, religion fills a part in the human experience that we all need filled.
You've seen fandoms, especially the HP one with fans that compare everything to their favorite series. This is especially the case with people protesting trump. Their sign referencing HP or star wars and quoting it like a bible. The way they look to Nye, Tyson and Dawkens is the way people look at Sunday school teachers. In fact the entire progressive identity politics philosophy is already practically a religion with people on different castes of oppression levels that are superior to others, and a contradictory law code to to drive faith in.
Religion is alive and well user, they just don't call themselves religion.

No he doesn't believe in gods, he views the chaos gods as extra dimensional parasites, albeit very powerful ones

What's stopping you, you can worship Him. You'll get brownie points when they find Terra II. Unless we're a permanent Chaos world. Then you'd be quickly found and disposed of.

It had significantly more meaning and impact that a single human who truly believed in the emperor, had no powers or enhancements, was just a man. Stood up a roided warp fuelled chaos champion nightmare primarch like Horus because of his beliefs

Making him an immortal perpetual super soldier No.371 is so much more dull

If you put your Western civilization-centric glasses away and looked at the numbers worldwide you'd see it's atheism and agnosticism that are dying.

Hell, privilege is just the doctrine of sin.

Horus' flagship. The one where he and Empy fought.

So a death cult grows and Chinese Christian population. What kind of Christians are these growing numbers in China? Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox or just some homegrown potato mash of random beliefs sects who call themselves Christian because they make regular sacrifices to Buddha Jesus and Holy Virgin Kali?

That's a lot of wiped asses.

Horus wasn't a Primarch - at least, not yet, since he was still alive.

Really now.

That shit got wiped out when Big E unified Terra.

It's Catholic's and evangelical Christians. There's a chinese bishop who's not recognised by the chinks, he's in a weird place politically so he's not even the official ambassador from the vatican. The Chinese can't admit there's a growing christian population in the republic and the protestant/evangelical thing has always been community oriented. So it's like a terrorist cell structure and the reds have actually advocated treating them as such. All the money and funding comes from private donations or THE VATICAN BANK and it's just a weird fucking mess where the catholics and protestants have this handshake and it's an open secret.
But of course christians arn't driving cars into crowds of people (unless they voted hilary lol) so it's not in the news.

Trump is not working to uniting the world :c

We all know Bernie was the true emperor trying a new tactic

Nah the Abrahamic god is a cuck anyways

>It's a faith founded by atheists.

It is literally "that guy is a god, now worship him like one or you get burned alive"
