Got a bit of a question here, 40kg. I'm interested in the lore of 40k and very much in playing it, but I absolutely suck at painting and it's not something I'm terribly interested in. What would you recommend? Is there a painting method that can make minis look passable enough with minimal effort (idk, like spraypainting it and doing highlights over or something)? I'm willing to spend a reasonable of money and time, but I have the artistic skill of a sugar glider.

Character Sentinel when?

Draigo was able to beat Mortarion, because the Warp mutated Draigo to be the size of a Daemon Primarch. The fluff would have said it if Draigo wasn't as big as a Primarch.
Jackson Robinson
>vanguard/sternguard vets >at least 2 Apothecaries >a venerable Dreadnought or two >FW stuff, probably some Tanks or dreads >good amount of power armor, maybe a scout squad or two Probs want some primaris now, but definitely grab vets and Apothecaries. Can't say why, but I feel like centurions go with their army a lot too

I've got a couple of 1500 point games coming up in a local league I'm participating in - first against Necrons and later against Iron Warriors. I play Dark Angels and have a pretty good collection of dudes. Any advice on list building or tactics to utilize? I've yet to play against either faction in this edition. I'm thinking of including some Black Knights and a AC/CCW+SB Venerable Dreadnought, since those have done real work for me vs MEQ in the past.
Dominic Howard
Easiest method I know is what ive seen some store managers teach people. Prime, one layer of your favorite color on armor, another of your favorite colors on regalia such as head dresses or pauldrons, then Drybrush with a bright color. Doesnt take that much time, dont need a lot of paints, and you get the satisfaction of having done it yourself.

>mfw Necrons are usable again
Please GW. Make this real.

Saving up for a cheap commission studio to give your entire army a passable paintjob, or doing something like airbrushing or color primer spraying your entire army then dipping.
You probably shouldn't bother with playing the game if you don't care about the models or want to paint. There's other ways to get into the setting without having to play with an army. If you DO like the models, it's probably worth paying someone to paint them or figuring out a way for you to get past the hurdle of not wanting to paint, such as shortcuts or just slowly getting accustomed to painting.

While I still havent actually lost any games with my Necrons. All of those things except 2018 make me hard.
In an apocalypse match on saturday, it took the combined might of a Warhound Titan and a 3CP Orbital Strike to kill all 5 of my shield Lychguard.
Tyler Harris
Your choice of army will be a factor. Necrons, some Marines and some Daemons are easy to paint with simple techniques will getting nice effects. Something like a Eldar army is a bit more involved.
Hunter Cruz
when the battle cannon hits just right
Brandon Gonzalez
Sure, though the exact method depends on your faction. Buy a can of Chaos Black spray paint (the first "primer" coat) and another spray can of the main color of your army (blue for Ultramarines, green for Orks, etc.). Prime the minis in black, allow them to dry, then spray them in the main color. Don't drench the minis in paint - hold the can a fair distance from the mini and just get a nice even coat across the whole mini. Paint the eyes (red for most factions) and the weapons (Leadbelcher is good for most of them). You're done! The minis are now ready for the tabletop. If you find you want to add a bit more detail, just pick out details here and there in appropriate colors (gold for decorations, brown for leather and cloth, flesh-color for, you know, flesh, leadbelcher for most mechanical details like space marine mouth-grills etc.), but no one will hold it against you if you decide your army is good enough without such flair.
Matthew Edwards
Thanks, I'll look into it.
I'm alright with models, but I really wanna give the actual game a go.
I'm interested in T'au, mainly. Possibly Orks.
Jace Wood
When playing against Necrons, dont waste any lascannons on Arks or other transportesque vehicles unless you are feeling lucky. Quantum shielding will fuck you in the ass. And dont worry about the army as a whole as much as choose individual squads to obliterate every turn. If you are playing with objectives make them come to you.
I also assume they will have at least Two blobs of 20 warriors. Destroying one of the blobs completely with as much fire as you feel you can spare will go a long way to helping you win.
Wraiths can move through terrain so beware charges through any cover or buildings, and dont let yourself get too much tied up in any fights with Lychguard or Triarch Praetorians.
Nick away at any Triarch Stalker if you have a chance because it gives anything else that shoots at what it shoots at the ability to reroll 1's. This includes everything from warriors to fliers and tanks.
Pic related is my 1500 point Necrons. It isnt the most optimal build but It is what I love, I could have taken another 10 warriors in exchange for my Lychguard which I suspect most people will.
Finally if the Triarch Stalker has a Heat Ray, it will be used as a flamer if you charge it so be careful.
Carson Miller
I'm okay with this
Nathaniel Garcia
Would asking other players to teach you to play the game and lending you their army work? You could also build some armies with things like plastic army men or prepainted D&D/Heroclix figures.
Best option is probably just assembling the army you want and then giving it a color spray primer coat. People might grumble about "primer only army", but if it's a colored primer, it honestly looks 90% the same as a fully painted model from far away. Color primer is way better looking than black/grey/white primer or unpainted when playing.
Jordan Myers
If you dont like to paint, dont get Orks. You will have to do an excessive amount of painting and it wont be any fun. Tau will be a lot easier and you will be able to get into action earlier and do more with shooting than you will with Orks.

If you're okay with 30k Marines and how they look, Betrayal at Calth pretty much gets you an entire marine force sans transports.

Basic target priority goes: Stalker first as it buffs damage and carries one of the few sources of AT. Followed by either the rest of the AT, being either Heavy Destroyers or Doomsday Arks.
Then you want to destroy any Ghost Arks, as they provide extra resilience to infantry. Then you can just mop up as needed, the basic infantry dies to melee and any of the specialists dies fairly easily to plasma.

It's been two weeks since Duncan's had a video.
Is... is he okay?! Did he drink too much paint water?
William Roberts
Oh, in that case space book says no.
Jack Walker
Seconding this. Betrayal at Calth was one of the best boxes I've bought in recent memory. Sculpts were nice, very little flash/moldlines, massive savings when compared to buying seperately, and there's no "bad" units in the box (aside from maybe the Contemptor, but if the weakest unit in the fucking box is a Contemptor that's still DAMN good). Prospero isn't quite as good but it's not too far off, still way above average. I mainly like the armor patterns and HQs from Calth more than those in Prospero but Prospero can be just as nice if you plan on having some Talons of the Emperor allies at some point.
Josiah Ortiz
Neither. Yiffs just brag about pushing rope and/or scoring with imaginary women because there's no way any other chapter actually has marines in the bedroom alongside them to let everyone know they're full of shit.

I have a hard on (heh) for centurions, am not sure if they would go well with the named characters though...
Tyvm for the response, I appreciate it. I'll put something together and get back to you

BoP would have been great if it hadn't been full of Custodes and SoS.
But Custodes and SoS models were also great so it's kind of a dilemma.

Speaking of, something of interest happened the other day, me and my lil bro visited the nearby game shop in a bay town, while my goal was to try and get some info on how to pre-order the new L5R stuff, we saw two guys at one of the tables playing 40K, specifically a Chaos vs Tyranids thing...
This might have been a spark for my lil bro, as he wondered what the game was, I explained a bit of the setting to him. He seems fond of the Necrons, and after showing him a batrep of Necron army pretty much roflstomping an Eldar army, it may have solidified his interest in the game... now how am I to get some nessesary stuff for him? well, outside of a "Start Collecting" set, maybe also nabbing a rulebook and a codex for him...
Oliver Young

Oh, good. I suspected he had accidentally drunk one.
Of course, with my level of painting skill, I'd probably drink a small pot of it to gain its power if I thought it'd do any good.
Jaxson Williams
2 apothecaries, a dreadnought, and a veteran/centurion squad puts me at 4 elites.
Is it worth spending the only CP you get from a vanguard battalion on the extra elite?
Liam Hernandez
Bolter no kokoro, I think
Angel Allen
Back in the day there used to be "Battleforces" look into those.

Relictors are on scavenger mode so they probably would have older shit. But probably not a full army of Mk IV so you're right.

Buy him a can of leadbelcher spray and a pot of nuln oil gloss.
He'll have a better painted army than half the people here.
Joshua Hill
The start collecting is literally the best thing you can get for beginning Necrons. It saves you like 40 bucks and has all kinds of great stuff. As for extra things to get, definitely a box or two of Immortals, a box of Lychguard(Comes in Praetorian box) And an Ark Phalanx, it comes with hella warriors and a Ghost/Doomsday Ark, the Ghost Ark can help revive your warriors and the Doomsday ark is a super-Fuckblaster
what if I told you I was going to get rich off your aimless direction and craving for distraction, to indulge but not partake?
Im going to fucking do it.
Brandon Phillips
How, birdman, how?

I'll put them on the list of things to check out
Pretty much, I think they look nice and all but it'd feel unfluffy to havee the whole force kitted out in them

I just showed my noob, I guess I saw the 3 and figured that's so many that there can't be more
Jaxon Davis
Battalion as well if that helps.
Adam Turner
Also dont listen to the "Lychguard are bad" meme. They are stupidly resilient in all manners. Such as it taking a Warhound titan's entire shot load to bring them down to 1 model remaining out of 5
Joseph Bell
Yeah I figured guard was the answer. Maybe I just grab some sentinels.
Tyler Fisher
going to be a hell of an expensive birthday present for him...

Do you know what game you're trying to play?
Michael Foster
You dont need to get it all at once. In fact, get the start collecting and whatever colors he likes and either 1 box of immortals or 1 box of Lychguard. Wait until he finishes building and painting those before you get anything more. To make sure he really is committed and so he doesnt get new model syndrome.

Thanks lol, I'm the slut who posts every couple days about playing EC but don't want to play demons. I am finding RS to be pretty cool guys, so I think I am going to try them.
Aside from what I have learned; obsession with gene purity to the point that apothecaries are everywhere. What other traits of the chapter should I try to put forth in my army?
Oliver Myers
You say that like it's some amazing feat. A warhounds guns are really inefficient at killing lychguard.
