They started out as the Luna Wolves with White, Black and Grey Power Armour. Then after Ullanor Emps renamed them to the Sons of Horus in honour of Horus, so they changed their colours, like all the Legions did when they got renamed, to Green-Grey, Black and Gold.

Then after Abaddon retook command before the First Black Crusade he renamed/rebuilt them as the Black Legion to symbolise their failure at taking Terra the first time, so they repainted their armour Black and Gold.

The first was gift from the Emperor, the second was Abby throwing a shit-fit.
