Wanna know the best part? We tend to put into vote what's the next campaign and next system we use.

99% of the time it's PF and when I ask why we can't try something new, it's always "Pathfinder does it better." or "I don't wanna learn new system when it can easily be homebrewed in Pathfinder".

The only reason 5th is allowed was because it was to them, a dumbed down version of PF.

If it wasn't similar at all to PF or any of the other D20 stuff, they would have said no.

PoA scan when???

Ready for UA: Expanded Trinkets Table?

Princes of the Apocalypse has been out for a while

FOOD AND PROVISIONS OR RAGE

I'm working on it but I'm trying not to damage my book so it's slow goings.
I have the first chapter if you need something to get your started.

UA: NPC Random Generation Tables

But we already have those

Is this really all the Warforged info for 5e? I could have sworn there was supposed to be a penalty to Charisma.

UA: Council of Wyrms when?

UA: Flavors of moss.

UA: Noncombat Flora and Fauna

5e doesn't do penalties, except for monster races I guess.

Well, I've nothing to complain about, I suppose. Thanks.

Sell me on high elves.
I'm rolling a wizard for a new campaign and high elf is clearly one of the best choices, but I've always found roleplaying one unappealing.
If they live so long that day to day shit doesn't matter to them, why wouldn't a high elf just be an aloof asshole about everything?

What would happen if a male Halfling had a child with a Storm Giant.

Asking for a friend....

me. I'm asking because this happened in my game.

And only two monster races at that. Goblins and bugbears get off fine.

>/5eg/
>"No don't give npc's PC class levels that's bad"
>DMG
>Hey here's some PC class features you can give to your npc's
Well what is it?

It aint possible

Because adventuring doesn't just concern day-to-day shit. Most adventures concern either significant threats, which a high elf would be able to see the significance of in terms of future consequences, or a promise of treasure, which appeals to everyone.

There is no child, it's just the Halfling finally falling out of the Storm Giant's vagina after getting stuck up there for 9 months.

There's a difference between the giant boss having action surge and being a level 10 fighter

Those are two completely different things you're trying to equate

It's literally a class you give to villains

Go look at death domain cleric and oathbreaker paladin

Well, you can be an asshole to your entire party for no fucking reason
You can just dismiss everyone's plans because CLEARLY you're the one with the most intelligence and the most experience
You can also throw lines about your grandchildren being older than most of your party
tl;dr unlimited dickery
Also you're a fucking wizard
Someone in the party mad at you?
Well what's he gonna do, stab you?
That shit ain't gonna work

Giving class levels to major characters or villains is fine and pretty much no one here argues that. It's giving class levels to EVERY SINGLE NPC the DM makes that is a bad fucking diea

>stuck in her vagina for 9 months
I think he's dead

>Well, you can be an asshole to your entire party for no fucking reason
Player dropped

>Horizon Walker Ranger archetype is it any good?

a better way to phrase it would be "the same rules that apply to creating PCs don't apply to creating NPCs". in other words, it's entirely appropriate to make an NPC that is a mash-up of druid and barbarian features who casts using his constitution. he doesn't have to be a specific "rules legal" build you could replicate as a player.

and because 5e doesn't have NPC classes you shouldn't be handing out class levels to every peasant, blacksmith or town guard either (unless they have other experience). a peasant isn't a level 4 commoner like 3e, they're just a statblock.

Illusionist cheats the reaper man or whatever incarnation of Death you have regularly.

>Implying it's not Unearthed Arcana: Diversity Quotas

nah bruh, it's gonna be "UA: Alternative AC rules" (aka THAC0)

pls no

This

search your heart, you know it to be true.

>UA: Greyhawk AC

Hey you should post that adventure diversity analysis, that was better bait.

>UA: Greyhawk Proficiencies
I long for the days when as a level one wizard I was more useful because I could actually read and write rather than my being able to cast one magic missile a day.

My cousin hasn't played d&d since the 80s or something. He's always loved it but he lost touch with all of it when he joined the navy and went to college and had a family and all that.

Now that his kids are older he wanted to start getting into it so he could run a game for them.

I sent him my extra 5e books and didn't hear back from him for a week or so.

I get a call one day

"Hey man, I'm looking through these books and it seems familiar enough, but I can't find how they do THACO in this edition."

I was like "oh dude...."

>UA: Alternative AC rules

But user, a level 1 wizard can cast up to 3 Magic Missiles each day! provided you get a short rest after the first two

Wasn't even baiting, just expressing how dogshit the recent UAs have been by saying the next one will be more dogshit. I want food and provisions as much as everyone else

no one actually wants it, which is why it's going to be the next UA.

>no one actually wants it
Speak for yourself

And we get free fire bolts and a guaranteed 6 hp! How times have changed.
Really do enjoy level 1 5e though, the power is a nice balance.

>wanting THAC0 in 5e
>unironically

>Misread the spell entry for Stinking Cloud when players shows it to me
>For some reason thought it incapacitated the creature on a failed save rather than just causes them to lose their action that round
>Run it that way for 4 sessions before I realize my mistake

Well I feel fucking stupid

As somebody who has played in/run a couple dozen different systems over the years this always frustrates me. I thought this kind of thinking died back when OGL caused a mass extinction in the RPG industry but I guess PF has allowed that to continue.

They don't even have GURPS on store shelves now that they've switched to print on demand/PDFs as their business model, though that's partially because things have shifted away from systems that crunchy apart from Pathfinder it seems.

So play a massive aloof asshole, make charisma your dump stat. Just don't be a cunt to your players or DM.

Dear lord, that'll make Mystic's page count look tame.

Whats the best way to give my players 13500 experience in a single session
>inb4 milestone meme

Exp for everything that can be an encounter, pass that persuasion check? Exp, found that trap? Exp

accidentally genocide a race of monsters and give them experience for each individual.

By using milestones and not worrying about that shit anymore.

>alright party, you walk into goblin town
>oops you gave them all the pleague
>you technically killed them all let me tally up the exp

stop being a faggot and use milestones

Deck of Many Things

Assuming a party of 4, pit them against an Ancient Blue Dragon who is in the middle of kicking out her kid, a Young Blue Dragon. They are CR 23 and 9 respectively, totalling to 55,000 xp which would give each player 13,750

Using XP in 2017 is the meme friends, even video games are moving away from that shit

Grab a magic broom and the acid splash cantrip then use them to kill the tarrasque.

really though
what's wrong with milestones

Because I don't use them

that even works with skt

But iymrith has 2 kids, and they were already kicked out, should I just have them roll a rock onto Klouth?

Is the hype for ToA considered justified?

There are rules for racing dinosaurs. Of course it's justified.

>There are rules for racing dinosaurs
FUCKING SOLD!

My party once found an underground salamander city that was acting as a base for a adamantine mining operation. It was at the convergence of ley lines linked to the four primary elemental planes. The party decided that they wanted to stop this and chose to fuck with the convergence. They threw the elemental balance out of whack and and with an explosion that overcharged the main caster with magical energy and created elemental adamantine crystals throughout the cavern system. It also opened up cracks into the water table and flooded the whole cavern. They managed to escape by the skin of their teeth and drowned every salamander in the city, some 5000 dudes. I just gave them the level after that, and the caster got some neat new powers.

Any good recommendations for an artificer's mechanical servant? It has to be a beast with CR

I can't say I have any hype for ToA. I'll download the pdf when it's out and give it a once over, but all my hype is boiling for Xanathar's. November cannot come soon enough.

but milestones solve this sort of problem

WHERE IS THE PDF OF IT I NEED IT NOW.

My players voted on XP or Milestones, and they requested XP, so I'm rolling with XP, they just get XP for quests, monsters, and "plot" threads.

Dire Wolf is pretty nice.

Read the thread(s)

Some glorious user posted a pic of the dino racing tables in the last thread No one seemed to notice for some reason

Something with Fly speed that you can use as a mount. It's worthless in combat anyway.

What variant rules / house rules are always a good idea?

IE
> Using non-default attributes for skill checks. (Strength for Intimidate, etc)

They encounter Dark Lord who is having existential crisis.
He will not be hostile and if they try to attack, he will effortlessly imprison them in forcefield for several hours.
Then he will tell them of his life, his rise to power, his many great goals and recent realization ho vain they all are.
PCs can try to reason with him or intrigue further, but regardless of their reasoning or persuasion, he will proceed to off himself.
By the logic of being only creature that interacted with him around the time of his demise, PCs get all the 13500XP for his "defeat".

Dark Lord resurrects some time later and with his newfound motivation becomes a legitimate threat to the realm that PCs have to stop. He will remember this encounter.

Short rests are 8 hours and long rests are 7 days

>girl joins our group
>she brings all kinds of tasty food so we can eat while we play
>she isn't an attention whore
>doesn't flirt in-character
>not a great player but not bad either

Along with an alternative alignment system.

Spell points for sorcerers
New characters must not have the same race and class combo as your previous character
Longbows can use strength instead of dexterity

Ignore this cunt, that's literally the worst variant rule in this entire edition

The only one that comes to mind is the Giant Eagle. Dunno that you can ride that.

What do you guys think of this homebrew? Too OP? Too weak?

homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/HJZbpfQLUb

> Roll 1d100 to determine your gender
> Privilege tracker.

>1d100

Obviously it depends on the situation

I run short rest 8 hours, long rest 7 days, assuming overland travel. This changes if they go into dungeons or spend time in a major city. It lets me have the encounters they'd run into happen over the course of their entire trip from one place to another rather than having 24 chimeras descend on my party over the 4 days they go from a town to a city

Also curious about this, trying to decide between Monster Slayer and Horizon Walker.

>d100
You need to roll a Dinfinity you opressive bigot

Allosaurus

>wait girls are people too?

>you're either nice, an asshole, or a double asshole
>no in between

>1 girl acting decently makes up for all the dozens that are/were shit

>neutral replaced with selfish
what the fuck is this shit

>Female player in my game
>literally playing the "I roll to seduce meme bard"
Never again

>male player in my game
>playing literally any autistic meme character
>never again
This is what you sound like
