If you're looking for a taste in lit for a girlfriend you've got very different priorities than me. Does she make you happy? Loyalty? Not too crazy but not boring? Is she pretty to you? Is she nice but not for attention? Shared hobbies and tastes is an afterthought: arguing light heartedly or poking fun at each other can be nice and so can sharing something, and you can find something to share at any point. Your world views probably don't even have to be compatible if you care about each other and she can pass the above.

From a practical standpoint I agree with you, but I've always had the autistic craving to own physical media. I think for me since I grew up a filthy pirate it doesn't really feel like I own something unless I can hold it. Occasionally this brings up some annoying problems like how I want a physical copy of Blue Medusa that is now like $300 secondhand, but a pdf copy is $5.
