So Veeky Forums, what lies at the bottom at the seemingly endless vertical hole in your setting? How hard is it to get there?

Literally hell.
It wants souls, and once they start the journey down, it refuses to let go without a fight.

>Malestorm

Prison of the God of Nightmares. A good intentioned but fucking stupid Lich tried to shoot a magic laser down there and ended up creating the hole in the first place and waking the God up, so now the party has to deal with both the Lich going full Dindu Nuffin and the God of Nightmares trying to climb up and turn the setting into Event Horizon.

A "forest" that serves as a cage for the God of Fate, that the other gods feared. Oblivously the PC freed the god since it was fated to be that way.

Sounds like a great name for a leather club.

The prison of a now sentient book of forbidden knowledge. Getting there was a pain, but getting back out is going to be worse.

A giant, once-spacefaring snake.

>lich
>fucking stupid

Midway down you pass through an invisible teleporter that drops you from a higher point in the pit, so you fall infinitely until the speed literally tears you apart. Used for torture.

Literally Heaven. It's the central citadel of the Gods, placed there so they can govern the entire world from inside of it. It's pretty easy to get there, because some Gods desire mortal sacrifices. Getting there alive, and getting out again? Not so easy.

When you get their the gods grant you a single wish, so long as you immediately leave and don't ever come back, the catch?
the gods don't provide another way back up.

Proof that the rest of the world is in fact an enormous Nihei-like megastructure mistakenly believed to be natural-- in the form of the remnants of the matter it was constructed from.

Where are Shadow Shadow Bo Badow, Double Hell and Scarytown?

I've been thinking of a setting where you can travel between different planes by hiking. The bottoms of the deepest mines lead to Hades. If you can climb the highest mountains, you can reach the place of gods. In the deepest parts of any untamed forest, a single misstep can take you to the plane of fey. And so on.

>seemingly endless
No no user, it is endless, hope you like dying of thirst and anger during your fall
Also you can see a light at the " bottom" during your fall, but it's just a bait to give you false hope

Fall

>Using an undead army and conquering the world with it, meanwhile teaching necromancy to my cowardly and treacherous student when the world has never seen undead OR necromancy before is a good idea
>Better not explain why I'm doing it to anyone
>Too deep for them to understand
>Wait heroes are kicking my ass?! HOW DARE THEY I'M GOOD GUY

Infinite magical knowledge, absolutely no people skills. Autistic, basically.

Stop shilling MiA.

It houses a giant sentient super-organism of mushroom men attached to a central fungal core. They are capable of speech, but communicate with one another telepathically, receiving instructions from one to the next like a colony of ants using pheremones.
This core was built intentionally by the (second) oldest god after imprisoning the others in their own realms. Some of these imprisonments left artifacts and connections in the world that can still be arbitrarily activated to access them.
Inside this rift, hidden in a valley that two nations fight over, disputing the location of a fabled "holy land", rests a gate-like conduit that can be activated under the right circumstances to access one or more of the god's respective realms, or connect them to one another.
Some of the "keys" for this conduit still exist as tiny stone eggs, brimming with the same energy the gods are built of, but their purpose and the existence of the conduit are both lost to the ages.

So far, none of the stories have made their way into this rift, and it's also not the only conduit remaining either. The "Eggs of Creation" have been involved at least a couple of times, one was even the focus of a three man Ocean's Eleven heist.

A completely smooth, flat, gray area with barely anything on it.

The top of the hole.
