Heart of the Empire when?

Not Rosh Hashanah Edition

ONE JOB

So I've gotten myself into a bit of a bind here fellas. I'm running a party through the Trouble Brewing adventure at the back of the EotE corebook with a few minor modifications; chiefly, that R4-W9 (the stolen astromech) is actually carrying some secret Rebel data. The party only knows that R4 is valuable, but not why.

Here's the difficulty: last session I got supremely drunk and skipped the fight at the gang hideout, instead saying that it was empty except the droid. When they tampered with the droid it triggered a timed explosion, which they managed to escape with the droid (relatively) unscathed.

How I plan on explaining it is that the gang extracted the data and left the now regularly-valued and rigged-to-blow R4 as a trap to kill any pursuers. The thing is, I'm not sure exactly what the Rebel data should be: secret base location? Secret trade data? Attack plans? Stolen Imperial intel?

As well, without the charts R4 is supposed to have, how will the party find the gang's second hideout?

Not soon enough.

Based off of the last thread, i have a question about wingmen for this Upsilon build.

Kylo Ren (Upsilon shuttle) (Expert Handling, Fire Control System, Intelligence Agent, Inspiring Recruit, Pattern Analyzer, Kylo Ren's shuttle, Ion Projector)-46

That leaves two 27 point wingmen. I'm thinking 2 PS 5 aggressors with TLT and LWF, with the ps being useful against FSR. I'm not sure though, maybe OL and a delta would make more sense?

>tfw Tommy Wiseau will never be Vader

>tfw young Tim Curry will never be Trioculus

In a perfect world

youtube.com/watch?v=_w15H6Giqoo

>Charlie Sheen will never be Raith Sienar

Could be Death Star plans. Something that both the Rebels and Imperials, and maybe even outside interests, would want to get their hands on. Create drama, have everyone be offering or threatening or negotiating or bribing to get it from them, have the other big players rat race after the PCs, and have them decide just what they should do with that info: should they return it to its rightful owner? Should they give it to that owner's arch nemesis? Should they sell it to an up-and-coming crime lord? Or maybe they could use it for their own gains and usage?

Bonus points if it turns out to be completely mundane intel, or so it seems, and so it all seems for naught until the PCs realize it's some kind of ultra top-secret shit coded to look common and worthless.

You could try double Strikers:

Upsilon-class Shuttle: · Kylo Ren (34)
Expert Handling (2)
Fire Control System (2)
Ion Projector (2)
Inspiring Recruit (1)
Intelligence Agent (1)
· Kylo Ren's Shuttle (2)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
TIE Striker: · "Pure Sabacc" (22)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Adaptive ailerons (0)
TIE Striker: · "Duchess" (23)
Expertise (4)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Adaptive ailerons (0)

So, if you're not a fan of FFG's Star Wars, hate d20, and your group all dislike the old d6 game, what options are there? Is there like...a good Savage Worlds conversion? What?

Star ORE, a stripped down version of Wild Talents, maybe.

We have two /swg/'s

But since this one is the only one with posters I suppose we should stay here

Hello, fellow poster.

Obsidian Squadron, reporting in

Really, i'm not sure how to best leverage the strengths and weaknesses of Kylo.

He will end up functioning like a dedicated blocker at times, and at others, a dangerous attack platform. In both cases, he struggles to turn around. So i need allies that can stop him from flying past stuff, or threaten stuff that is behind him.

That's making me think either a pair of deltas if I cut the ion projector, or 2 TLT dudes.

So how elite was obsidian squadron compared to a typical squadron? To a group of academy graduates? To Black Squadron? To the 181'st? To a squadron that was issued defenders(glaive)?

So, I have a question.

I was thinking about giving my PCs a base to build on, using the Defiant Core template in Strongholds of Rebellion.

If somehow they drop the ball, I'm pretty sure that even if they defend the base successfully, I should tell the PCs that evacuation is needed, since the Empire will eventually come back in stronger waves?

Fairly elite, I'd say. They served at Hoth, Bespin and survived Endor and were atmospheric combat experts with somewhat modified TIE/LNs to help in maneuverability. Plus. they have Howlrunner as their leader.

They'd definitely be one of the premier TIE/LN squadrons, maybe a step below Black. (But then again Black Squadron's job was mostly to play backup to Vader)

starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Obsidian_Squadron

Yes, but be sure to keep things fair. Discovery of a base should only be the consequence of extreme negligence or major failure. Even if the PCs do screw up, you should give them at least one last chance to preserve secrecy.

Theoretically, you could do what the beginner adventure or Friends Like These did and have the Imperial commander keep his operations a secret as part of some hidden agenda.

A quick question about the FFG SW game. If I wanted to make a reasonable competent Jedi of around the time shortly after Order 66. How many XP would be required?

Hmm, I would hazard a guess of around 125-175 XP?

What other scifi/ fantasy series could I drop into my Star Wars game with little alteration?

youtube.com/watch?v=pW_xdftOspA
Why do I find this more enjoyable than TFA?

thank you user

Hmm, wondering if I should have the players help make the map when making encounters.

Have them flip a Destiny Point to draw out something beneficial for them on a map, while the GM can do the same?

However, both sides can draw up places that benefit each other, like a walkway where the PCs and the enemy NPCs can get up to, something like that.

Wing Commander, baby.

gurps

>Really, i'm not sure how to best leverage the strengths and weaknesses of Kylo.

Honestly? As a crew card on something else. Kylo (crew)'s ability is SO much better than his pilot ability it's not even funny.
Why?
Because it's pro-active, not passive, you choose who get's dumped on by the Condition, not the other way around. Also, what happens if you get attacked by PS2 guys all the time? What happens if he just grinds you down with TLT Y-Wings? You can blind him, but he's got TLT's he'll STILL get an attack on you, and thats IF you can get him inside the Upsilons forward arc.

It's still better than that ability being on a PS9 Silencer. No WONDER they didn't want to do an article for that thing on Force Friday. They probably didn't want to do an article AT ALL for Wave 13 until late Novemer or EXACTLY 3 days after TLJ released so they could furiously go back and... you know what I've gotten off track.

My point is. Kylo (crew) is 3 pts. You can put it on RAC + another Ace, you can put it on a TIE Shuttle for a 19pt support ship that enables the rest of your ace squadron. You could put in on a Shuttle proper, but he's not Palp so nah, you could put him on Kath Scarlet with Mangler and VI or something and it would not be the worst Firespray build in the world by any means. You could put him on the Upsilon with Stridan and some other buffing crew cards?
Theoretically you could put him on Whisper, but how's that supposed to help your putting?

>DURPS
>for high speed two-fisted pulp action

Because they actually put some effort into it.

An actual knight? 4-500
A padiwan with lots of trigger time in the war? 350-400
A boot padiwan motherfucker who barely made it out? 150-200

Those sound high, but I can concur. F&D characters are pretty weak at start.

Sup /swg/
I picked up a first edition d20 book last night at a used bookstore and I'd like to try running my group through a morally grey/espionage campaign. Should I use it or should I go for Revised d20 or Saga? We tried Edge of the Empire and most of my players didn't care for FFGs storytelling dice.

>Those sound high,
They're about right for replicating what you see those sorts of characters doing in TCW, in novels and so on

Remember that before the empire Joe Jedi had really extensive training from childhood as an expert negotiator, undercover operator and force user; like a fucking fourteen year old Jedi could be sent out on a commando mission and NOT get everyone killed.
A proper OJO Jedi is operating on a pretty damn high level, and other PCs have to be appropriately dangerous to match up

Since d20 and Saga are just refluffed DnD in SPAAACE I'd recommend using WEG d6.

But if you are adamant on using the d20 system I'd say go for Saga. It's still a broken mess and Jedi do everything better than everybody else, but at least it is the lesser of evils among the d20 versions

No Jedi in the campaign, so I don't need to worry about that. I wouldn't mind using WEG but my players just don't want to learn anything other than d20 based systems. It's not that I'm a devotee of d20, it's that I don't have a choice.

Dreams do come true, /swg/

I should have been more clear, i meant " I understand that my barrel-rolling dogfight shuttle is mediocre, how do I optimize around it anyways".

I understand Kylo crew is a powerhouse, i am just wondering how to best use shuttle-pilot Kylo and have it be at least somewhat effective.

Raclo for actually trying to win games all day.

The fuck happened with that playmat?

It's beautiful.

are those grilled cheese sandwiches or frenched toasts

Resurgent-class star destroyers.

Im sorry user, sounds like your party are a bunch of fags.

Grilled cheese

I'm liking the "Winners don't use illicits" fbi joke.

is it a better design than the coruscant playmat?

Porque no los dos?

There's a box detailing "Knight-Level" play in the core Force and Destiny book. I don't remember exactly how much XP it was.

He will be somewhat effective naturally since he has 12 HP that have to get chewed through at some point. I would consider using Mara Jade if you can get into range 1 consistently with EH. Not only will you be stressing them with the title, you'll get them with her too. Also, make your ISYTDS cards control oriented. If you're going up against a two man team, give them damaged cockpit first, then maybe the one that damages on a bump or an overlap.

Can you imagine making grilled cheese with French toast slices?

It's 150xp plus credits or lightsaber. Imo 'knight level' play is just enough to represent a padawan recently selected by a master. To get close to OJO antics a knight should be around 500xp, and that's for one of the unnamed chumps that get shot in the background in the geonosis arena.

Another suggestion I have is two TIE/GO's: Omega Ace and Omega Leader

Omega Ace to trigger ISYTDS, and Omega Leader for dice mod control

Upsilon-class Shuttle: · Kylo Ren (34)
Expert Handling (2)
Fire Control System (2)
Ion Projector (2)
Inspiring Recruit (1)
Intelligence Agent (1)
· Kylo Ren's Shuttle (2)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
TIE/fo Fighter: · "Omega Leader" (21)
Juke (2)
Comm Relay (3)
TIE/fo Fighter: · "Omega Ace" (20)
Push The Limit (3)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
-- TOTAL ------- 97p. --

You got three points to spare on another tech or even to change a Crew or something

Mara jade doesn't synergize well with the title. Either way, i need intel and recruit for the build to function.

Who do you think would would make good wingmen?
I'm concerned with their ability to threaten stuff that gets behind the shuttle though.

10/10 it's a masterpiece.

Omega Ace can turn all his dice results to crits and Leader can basically crackshot enemies to death; what's not to like?

Plus Ace can benefit from Targeting Synch and can double Destress if he S-Loops and PTL's thanks to Inspiring Recruit (assuming Kylo doesn't use it that turn)

My concern was their ability to turn around quickly to threaten stuff that gets behind kylo.

A TLT never needs to turn around. A defender can do it any time.

The 2 TIE/FOs both aren't particularly threatening in the current meta since ships have so much health. Maybe 3 TIE/fo?

Did you complete the Krayt bounty to get that?

Did you use Miranda or Corran?

I'm honestly wondering why you want to use a Kylo shuttle so much with all of its inherent weaknesses

Because I want to try fucking around with a barrel-rolling ship with 4 attack and access to a stop.

It's usually how I go about making lists- I apply some sort of restriction to myself (eg, must use X) and then go from there. Barel Rolling dogfighting Kylo seems fun, so I figured I would build around that.

Does this look passable as a snubfighter?

Is that just a Howlrunner with two more guns?

starwars.wikia.com/wiki/I-7_Howlrunner

Yes, it's based on the I-7 Howlrunner with the wings taken from a A-Wing. Thus the name AwlRunner

I-7 Howlrunner schematics for reference

Weren't they also equipped with TIE Defenders at Endor too, or was that a different squadron?

I thought that was Onyx

Nice to see that you like it.

Also, new Kessel Run when?

Wouldn't my idea of Oicunn with Daredvil/EU/BoShek/IR/IA/Dauntless work with that?
Seriously assign them stunned Pilot and then ram them all day with the Decimator. Up to three damage per turn on a single ship (double Daredevil and BoShek/Positioning/Whatever to force them to collide with you). If you're apt at positioning Kylo then they can be forced to bump into either of them

I can see an infinite loop getting IP'd, getting rammed by Oicunn, get rammed by/forced to collide with Kylo and (possibly) triggering IP again

Repeat until dead

youtube.com/watch?v=KnxKIp_qDPw

I would say it doesn't work. The scale of the fighters is too different for an easy overhaul, the silouette looks ugly, and the guns look too different for easy fire linking.

It's a typical ugly fighter from atypical fighters for it. You'd be better off in a headhunter.

That was my idea I thought- i threw that out a couple of threads ago.

Anyways, that might be funny, but I usually try to make squads that aren't 100% gimmick.

Also, imagine the horror that would be Kylo+Bumpmasters.

It was, now that I looked back. Sorry for stealing your intellectual property fellow

Honestly it isn't a bad idea imo. Gross abuse of Game Logic but it's different and, more importantly, seems fun

I'm thinking about getting my first Upsilon today by the way; should I?

How much exp for someone like Vader?

Ignore the naysayers, SAGA is a perfectly serviceable system if you're used to d20. I wouldn't recommend playing the older editions, though.

5-10k?

Upsilon is good based solely how cool it looks.

I'd always suggest getting one. I''m deciding now between a second lambda and a second upsilon.

Wait, when did she get more art?!

X-wing National Championships. Howlrunner was the top-64 prize.

Absolutely wonderful, shouldn't have been out of the loop as long as I have been.

I am absolutely ashamed of you. Do not ruin the lines of the best ship.

That actually looks cool but, is right

Hideout alternate locations. A list compiled when they were on Dantooine, saying they were considering Yavin IV and Hoth.

A list of potential force-sensitive recruits.

Documents linking Palpatine to the CIS.

A list of black stations rebels use to move materials.

>find the gang's second hideout
The gang discovers there were survivors of the blast and send people to take out the PCs to preserve their secrets.

Two questions.

1. What is a good excuse for someone to level up their lightsaber path besides being trained or having access to a holocron?

2. Has anyone made stats for alternate Force users like Jensaarai and Matukai?

>1. What is a good excuse for someone to level up their lightsaber path besides being trained or having access to a holocron?
Having found one (or a weapon that uses the skill, like an Ancient Sword) and using it long enough to figure out the tricks.
Obsessively watching recordings of Jedi (or Sith) in combat and practicing their moves.
Just flat-out being a swordmaster who got their hands on a 'saber and adapted sword techniques.

>Just flat-out being a swordmaster who got their hands on a 'saber and adapted sword techniques.

What lightsaber path lends itself best to that? I'm thinking Makashi.

Shii-Cho. It's the oldest form and was explicitly described in Legends as being heavily influenced by traditional swordfighting. Quoth the Wook:
>As the most ancient style of lightsaber combat, Shii-Cho was developed during the transition period from swords to lightsabers. Lightsabers were wielded in a manner similar to swords, so many of the maneuvers, such as attacks or parries, remained unchanged, as the key principles of the old sword-fighting methods continued to be incorporated.

I wonder how many early Jedi tried stupid shit like lightsaber mordhau or lightsaber half-swording.

Looked at doing up Matukai a while ago, a combination of martial arts talents from various other careers adapted into a progression tree and maybe a specialised Enhance force progression/tradition would probably do it.
Then I got distracted by other things and had to abandon any further work.

So I'm loading up the truck and heading bush, packed up space princess, our hoojib and all our worldly possessions to go live on my farm. Dunno if I'll be here much any more, if I can I'll drop in to say hello, if not, goodbye and may the force be with your dice.

Lightsaber half-swording would be entirely practical with a cortosis gauntlet.
Lightsaber mordhau, if you had cortosis gauntlets and a reinforced hilt, would be the perfect thing to murder that smug fuck in the cortosis armor.

Lightsaber hilts don't seem heavy enough or spiky enough to make mordhau'ing worth the effort.

>Lightsaber mordhau
Lightsaber blades have no mass and the actual sabers themselves aren't sufficiently heavy. Lightsaber mordhau would, at most, tickle someone in body armor.

What you moving for, family passing the farm over, law after you, local wildlife trying to kill you in a more organized than usual fashion?
Good luck m8, you'll be missed

If you knew how to, mordhau and had the equipment to mordhau a lightsaber, I imagine you'd also have a hilt designed for it.

Adding mass to the hilt wouldn't be hard. Wouldn't even need to be much, since when you mordhau you get it all at the end of a lever arm. And if you concentrated it all at the center of mass, it wouldn't fuck up your swings TOO badly.
I mean, it's a silly idea, but it's a doable silly idea.

Wife chucked in her job as a big city, fancy lawyer, got sick of the corporate treadmill I guess. Which I'm completely fine with, but her parents are suuuuuuper pissed!
I'll still be doing engineering design, chasing cows, shooting guns, being a yobbo and maybe a bit of a simpler, uncomplicated existence will do us good.

Anyone else not a fan of the new trooper helmet designs from rogue one? They all remind me of Halo custom helmets.

Question folks, has anyone been making d6 fan content for all the stuff that star wars has thrown around in the last decade?

I have a bit, here and there, and so have a couple of other people. What are you looking for?
Enjoy the farm bud, don't let the drop bears or spiders get ya

>What are you looking for?
Awesome, you are still around Shipfag! I was just looking for anything in general really, in a couple months I kinda want to do a post-Endor/Warlord era game. I was brought back to all this after watching a friend play X-wing with the amazing collection of EU, newU, and clone stuff it has now. Rather inspired me, but not sure I want to give up d6 for FFG yet. I am not entirely sure what all I will want or need either.

Well, all right, my favourite era.
Luckily, most all of the ships in common use in that era already have stats in one sourcebook or another, but if you've something special in mind I can find or do it. I'll go digging for the Clone Wars ships first, since you mentioned them, then for some of the VII stuff

You are the best man!

What do you want first? Like fighters, corvettes, battleships, clone wars, VII?

Lets go with VII first, then clone wars. Mostly because I am less familiar with those two.
